2:03Yeah, Bob, eight years at 9.38 million per season. I mean, we're seeing these contracts go up and up and up. And I think this is just a sign of the times that, you know, these young defensemen, they're going to start getting paid here. You think they're getting paid? $9.3 million for Zeeb Boyam who came over the trade from the Minnesota while last year, the, by the way, do you listeners know what the numbers were? With the Van Cover, Conox, in the 45 games that he played, three goals, 12 points, minus 24. So he had 26 goals and 26 points last season. Now, I remember when the Ointries extended Tom Gilbert back in the day and Kevin Lowe got ripped and it turned to be a pretty decent. It was in the low force. The cleft bomb extension, oh, the one that could have shoot on Oscar, cleft bomb. And in fairness to Ken Holland and some of the things that occurred on the defensive front, the combination of the losses of both cleft bomb

3:07and Adam Morrison, whose father unfortunately suffered a heart attack traveling into Edmonton. And I think that played a factor in Adam's long-term, uh, development to the market. Always wondered what it could have, what would have happened, head Oscar, cleft bomb stayed healthy. Because had he, I'm convinced that there's no way Darnell Nurse would have got eight years times 9.25 million. But Nurse is considerably more established than Zeeb Boyam. So 9.38 million times eight years. We're going to talk about storylines today. The biggest story in the off season for the Edmonton owners, unquestionably the firing and crystal block and the hiring of Mike Babcock with DJ Smith. And it's important that we recognize that there are tandem and they have spent a lot of time building relationships and talking with the players. I know I swung by there today, had a brief combo with DJ. Um, yeah, I think we're going to make on the show next week, actually. I think he's going to join us. Would you say the Darnell Nurse trait is the second

4:08biggest story of the off seas? What do you think? Yeah, I think so. I mean, he's been around Edmonton forever. He's a leader with it or was a leader within that locker room. I mean, provided stability. He was one of the original guys coming out of the decade of darkness that the Euler signed in long term was a big part of the 24 and 25 cup runs. I think that, you know, that exit was, was pretty severe, but of course the Babcock hiring. I mean, that takes the cake. That's a, that's a pretty. And it's going to heat up again here as we get in a preseason as well. Like, everybody's got their opinion and, you know, some of us have known Mike for a long time and can understand where I'm going to tell you, I see a little bit different guy than maybe 10 to 12 years ago. Um, of course, the team hasn't lost a game and guys haven't been drill breakers in, in practice either. So, uh, but the top end players want to be pushed. So that's going to be super interesting. The nurse trade and I got all the time in the world for Darnell nurse. Sometimes it's

5:10just time. And I think in this situation, it was just time. I know that David Staples wrote a comparable piece about how Stan Bowman, I believe he used the term shafted, uh, can Holland on the, Duncan Keith trade. And it, uh, I mean, because Chicago did not retain any money in moving Duncan Keith, Keith was going into the last year of his deal that year. Uh, or no, he had a couple of years left, but he ended up retiring, I believe. And then, uh, you know, in nurse's case, there were still lots of years left in the deal. And I think that for a lot of people, you know, I might go as far to say, maybe I haven't seen that a little bit lucky to a certain degree that a team like Santa Bay, Santa Zayn wants to take a step forward. Went out, got truba, went out, got nurse to improve their D. We talked about the fact that Santa Zayn was going to add on the back end, uh, in the back end of last season, the second half of last season. There is in the here and now, another sort of storyline that I'm going to be watching. And that's the young guns and people

6:15say, well, stop for what do you talk about the orders don't have any young guns? Well, actually do. So definitely, Vali Engel spent most of his time in the HL. And then Isaac Howard and Josh Shamancki at forward. Where are they going to fit? I'm going to be super intrigued to see, you know, it's, it's interesting. Howard's case, he's a winger. You know, I talked to, does he, with the injury to Savoy? Does he end up playing with my David and dry saddle? Some might say, well, no, no, he's got to earn that. Maybe a play put calls up there to start the year or something like that. My concern is if you have the silly on that line, we can, uh, a second line because the facility can basically drive as a winger on the second line. But yesterday we had Bruce Kerlock on the show to talk about Josh Shamancki and Isaac Howard as we go into the orders now, Audi of Alt 4 direct workwear. 7:18Skew selection. Low prices at direct workwear. So Kerlock, who does about his good job, as there is Bruce Kerlock on orders prospects. Does anybody out out there? Nobody puts the detail in terms of the video that he puts together. Hit these thoughts on Josh Shamancki. Yeah, I think just thought, I mean, obviously he played 24 games last year. So let's, in the end, Gelsalette, let's start with that. He made an impact in a pretty positive one, right? So, I think he's a plus player, if I remember right. But in any event, you know, so six, three, two hundred pounds, good, very good understanding of the game defensively. Any, you know, so he plays over the puck, creates lots of opportunities for his teammates, and skates, you know, where I think, you know, I always made the offense. It's going to be a challenge and we'll talk about that in a second. But I thought what would really hold him back

8:21more meaning was skating because I didn't love his skating when I saw it in the DL. And really, I'm part pressed to think that his skating isn't at least NHL average. And you know, it might be slightly better than that. And that's that's the part of the game that surprised me. And I was probably part of the game that I think accelerated his development last year through the organization. You know, he got some drinks with some injuries and things like that. But he made the most of it and he didn't look out of place when he was up there. He reminds me a lot of Jason Dickinson. Actually, when you watch him on the ice and, you know, I think we're looking at a fourth line center this year. I think most of the people listening to this show would probably agree with that. But there is something there. And I referred to him as a two way forward. And people said, well, he hasn't proven anything to do anything offensively yet. Well, it's going to be tough to kick in a gear offensively in that slot. But, you know, he was a number one in time on ice

9:24in the PK amongst forwards and bakers field. He played about 30 seconds of game on the PK for the oiders. Does he factor in? Well, it depends on who's hurt at the start of the year because I do think we're going to see Connerley on on the PK because good teams like the last three Stanley Cup champions Carolina this past year with all hold the two years before that with barcov the year before that Vegas with Ikel. They have their top centers killing penalty. So I think that's something to watch for here. But I think some ass he's got a chance. And I think he's a bit of oil card as to where he will end up slotting. Some might say the same about Isaac Howard. Here's Bruce Kerlock. But Ike Howard has to figure out. And I there's a clip that I'm shown with Ike Howard many times over this was past 12 months. We're very early in the season. He had the puck in the middle of the ice and he had to lean up on offensive blue line. And instead of giving it to Leon and getting up the ice, he looked them off and he's buried it in the puck. I'd turned over

10:27and they went back the other way. That's the part of his game that can't happen if he's going it end up on that line. Get it. Give it up. Get into a spot to shoot the puck because they'll they will get it to it. They'll find you and they won't they won't hesitate. But he's got to give it up. Right. And so when you get these players, that's a boy. He's an excellent example of this. When he was playing junior, he played a lot of center. And so he would he would hang onto the puck like he was Matt Marzel. And he was fine in junior. And then when he transitioned to pro, what he learned very quickly, which again, I think this is, you know, who does to the both coaching staff in the in Biggestfield and the development team. Get the puck. Give it to somebody in a better spot and go find another spot. They'll get the puck back to you. And he transitioned on that. That's what I call it. I asked to do. If he's going to be with those guys, get the puck. Give it up.

I'd hate to see him playing four to six minutes a night in NHL as confidence is the most important thing. And I this is from Tim and I assume Babcock is going to be way better at making everybody part of the team unlike his predecessors in the McDab it era. Well, that has been the discussion over and over and over Mike wants a team. Conor and Leon want to be pushed and the best way to get the most out of a team is to push the best players will take a time out. You heard Stan Bowman's comments the 5 on 5 play. And

14:42this is something that some of us tried to communicate to people with hockey Canada. Oh, Boo Shard's just a power play. What the hell are you talking about? He's not just a power play, guys. Actually, really good 5 E 5 getting the puck up the ice. That way you'd have two excellent transition defenseman and Kale McCarr and Evan Boo Shard. I'm not saying Boo Shard's as good as McCarr. He held scored him last year. He's a hell of an e-man. But I think he'll take on added leadership responsibility this year for the E-man cylinders. Then again, then again, I am always very positive about Evan Boo Shard. Jimbo says Bob, seven of the top point getters in the NHL last year did not kill penalties. Kutraoff, McKinnon, Celebrini, Shifley, Pasinac, Nature's and Robertson from Jimbo. You sure are correct. The last three teams that have won a Stanley Cup Sebastian, who kills penalties in Carolina. The Kinect signing Zeav Boyam to an eight year contract extension with a $9.38 million annual average. The Seattle Kraken have signed forward Jacob Mlans into a three year deal that pays 1.45 million per season. 36 games for Seattle in 2526 putting up five points in that time. And a big hit for the Calgary Flames ahead of training camp and announced that Jonathan Huberdo will be unavailable at the start, still recovering from hip resurfacing surgery that he had in March. It's going to be interesting to watch Calgary here. I mean, in a perfect world, Edmonton Calgary

16:55and Vancouver battling out for top spot in the Pacific Division. That ain't going to happen this year. Vancouver is going to struggle and so are Calgary. I would envision that those two teams will finish in the bottom thirdly in NHL standings. Now, I didn't think Edmonton would finish as poorly as they did last season. I'm more bullish about this year's team. But I mean, I think the orders are going to win the Pacific Division and some will say, stuff for you're a homer. Well, I do work for the orders entertainment group, but I'm telling you right now, I think this is the year Edmonton finishes in top spot in the division. It's kind of hard to believe they won the cups in 88 and 90 without winning the division in the regular season. And that they want to stand like up final at 06, 24 and 25 without winning the division. And just a reminder for our friends in Calgary and in Vancouver, the orders ended up winning 2, 1, 3 and 3 9 playoffs series over a four year run for

17:56this past year. At no point in either the flames or the connox history, have they won 9 playoffs series in four years? In fact, the Calgary flames have won 6 playoffs series since 1990. Okay. Which would perhaps explain why similar shows in Calgary talk as much about as the orders as they do.
