So I'm kind of with you, and I think just about everybody thought it was going to be a minor penalty, and we're surprised when it became a major. This is a hunch I have. The referee on Saturday night doing the New York Islanders, overtime, went against San

2:01Jose, was Kelly Sutherland. He was the senior guy, Grady Hamilton, the 25-year-old accomplice in the stripes that night. And you remember Bohor, Vatcott, Maclin, Celebrini, kind of with a high, started to determine shoulder elbow, but it was kind of a headshot, and it was hard to penalize, because Maclin's a little bit vulnerable, reaching a smidge. One of those could have gone either way. And I wonder if Sutherland, who was the referee, of course, in the game in Denver, if he had been spoken to by the supervisors and said, hey, Kelly, you got to, you know, keep an eye on these head hits, especially star players, and even with McKinnon involved, I wonder if that wasn't kind of in the back of his mind that he'd already maybe missed one on Saturday night better, you know, bring the hammer down on Tuesday night, what do you think? Oh, I would think that if anybody would understand the machinations of officiating Ron, it would be you, because you have been a great conduit of support for them over the years.

3:02I'd come from the school, black and white stripes, and never write, just kidding. That's right, Bernbubby. Well, and you saw the league were rescinded, which I kind of hate, because they basically said to Trader and Sutherland, you blew the call. By rescinding it today, to allow McKinnon to not have that honest record, in case he gets a second game, misconduct, and it leads to a one game suspension. So I kind of understand their thinking, but, and I think we all were sort of a part of, I mean, it reminded me not nearly to the extent, but when Mark Andre, Bergeron ran Andrew lead into Dwayne Roleson in the 2006 game one. That one, it was like Bergeron was trying so desperately to push lead to the left of the net, but drove him right into the goal post, the right post, in the case of Roleson. And it was funny, it was a little bit that. You know what's funny about that whole situation with Mark Andre, Bergeron, is green allowed to beat him wide on the net drive. And then Bergeron over compensated, and the collision occurred, and it was a train wreck on the ice.

4:08And, you know, I think even Matt Green knew that, you know, if he doesn't give up the time and space there, that the collateral damage, which resulted upon the order of number one golden or not plain, you know, in sort of minute deciding moments to wrestle away in the series, you know, could things, could the course and direction of that sandwich up final been altered at all. But, because I, you know, again, Mark Andre, Bergeron, he was, he just over compensated. He was out of position, because he thought, quote unquote, green had his guy. Now, maybe that's given too much of a cop out to Mark Andre, Bergeron. I know there was a lot of frustration, and that happens sometimes. People try. I thought he was doing the right thing. I honestly did. It was, you know, it was almost identical in the sense that the lad is a lefty. Kim McKinnon's a righty coming from that side. Yep. With any coming from the opposite side, obviously. And Norse got just enough of Nate to keep him on track, to keep him online to hit Connor Ingram. It wasn't it by any stretch, as severe as Mark Andre, Bergeron.

5:08But Bergeron, you could tell, was trying to muscle lad to the left, and push him away from harm's way. But unfortunately, it's a fast game, and it didn't quite time it, right? You know, it ended up being a triple takeout curling. That's right. And that's, you know, it's funny. I mean, I think about, as far back, you know, guy's driving the net. I mean, Glenn Anderson did it in the 80s. That's hard. Yeah, the best. Yeah, and right, and it's emanated because, you know, you could, you could water ski off players at that time, and he had pace and tempo, and speed like, you know, everybody talks about Messy and Anderson and Curry and Gratsky. But when Messy went out, often Glenn Sather would just load up Anderson and Curry with, with Gratsky, and they were unstoppable. The team might not, and it's kind of correlated a bit to what happened with team Canada at the Olympics. And sometimes what happens with the Edmonton Lenders? Like, the others weren't as dominant when they didn't have all four of those guys, because they could split it up into two tandem. And so we often ended up with Messy and Anderson and Curry and Gratsky.

6:10But like the, the super high scoring game against Chicago, you know, Gratsky Messy, Messy was out in Gratsky, Curry and Anderson were together. And they were in on like seven goals in that game. So, and at that time, forwards did not backtrack hard in supporting the D, right? Defensively, it was a completely different error. But Anderson drove the net. Nick Kepriels, right? Who did he hurt? That's right here in the, right? Grant Sier. Yeah. Fell on Fier, yeah. Fell on Fier Sam Bennett. Right last year with Andy, like, and this one was different because of the, you know, the speed that Nathan McKinnon attacks at. But he does the fact that it's McKinnon. You know, that's also a factor. You've tossed the top guy in the game. And Kelly famous, and he's a great referee. It's funny. I'm doing an event in Grand Prairie next Thursday. We'll do the show all being Grand Prairie. And Doug Gilmore is on the trip and Gilmore famously, when Gratsky high sticked him and didn't get a penalty for the high stick. And Gratsky scored well. Doug was in the dressing room getting stitches.

7:10But Doug and his books says, look, it was an easy call to miss. I never begrudged. I never felt, you know, that Kerry, he shouldn't have made a call. It was back in the day when they had one ref, two lines, man. They could have called a match, but they would have ejected. Gratsky had they done it. And, you know, the rules were just kind of conspiring against Kelly on that night. And this one, it's not a terrible call. It's, as I say, I think he might, because he, he agonized over that one. They've looked at it for what? Five to ten minutes. It seemed like a really long review. It was a long one in the building. I can tell you that. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Now, that, anyway, that eventually ran prairie, by the way. Let's just, I'll let you keep finished off. Then I could ask about Grand Prairie for a second. So, well, I'm done on that. So, Darren, who organized the event, gosh, I should know the name of the day. I feel like it's three star dinner. But he, they have a, a charity that will help everyone get down to the stallory. Or in some cases, there are young patients who need to get down to the United States for special treatment, cancer, or otherwise.

8:11They'll send them all the way to Georgia. They'll pay their, you know, travel. Because not everybody can, you know, be in Grand Prairie and get the treatment they require in Grand Prairie. So, it's a really great charity. I've done the event before for Darren. And I know they always get great sports. George LaRacco will be there. Jamie McCowne always comes up at East Hall Area. He takes over kind of as EMC. I'll interview Doug E. Gilmore for sure. And there'll be lots of, you know, battle of Alberta stories from his flames days. So, it's a really nice event. Thursday in Grand Prairie. You can, you can look it up. I don't have the details right in front of me. We would have, I want to up there twice in one year. But it was for the Grand Prairie storm. Yes, and I have done them as well. I've done events for that great program too. So it's very challenging, you know. Very well, lots, lots of money up there. Like they're, when you fly in, it's so modern. Right? That's one of the things that struck me. I, you do too. We fly all over America. You know, there's a lot of old cities now. And when you fly into Grand Prairie,

9:11it's like a little Christmas village that's been assembled last week. So it's a really, it's a great community in Lake Port McMurray. You know, it's just a great fight in the town. Well, they got, you know, we may go up on another. They got oil and gas. They got forestry and they've got commerce. They got a lot going on in Grand Prairie. Ron, I, I planted trees up there for Procter and Gamma. I had to work this in a little story. You know, it was coming. 87 and 88. We were up there. The bar. There was a bar called jiggers on the wave. That was the name of the actual bar in the Grand Prairie. And my buddy Amir, he was a player. And he had a little Volkswagen beetle. And so we wanted to beat the rush going down to get our hotel rooms and all that stuff and then get out to one of these swinging establishments. And we decided to stay extra late on the day off and head back up. And so we're talking like, oh, man, it would have been, I'm thinking it would have been late July, okay?

10:12And we were summer planning. Any hit a coyote at night because it got to like 11 o'clock and I know it was pitch black. And he's got this little coyote Volkswagen beetle on the on a logging road. And he hits the coyote and we're like, what the heck? Because it ran out because it got attracted to the light. Oh, it was one of the worst moments. I'm like, here, we're two, you know, two tough dudes on all this. I'm sorry for, and I would have been a horrible experience that I'm sorry for the coyote, but it would have been later than 11 because at 11, I always know when we do the Stanley Cups in Edmonton, the reporters from Florida, what the hell is going on? It's 11 at night and you're filling your reports. This was in late July. This wasn't late July early August. So, okay, well, maybe. You know, we might have stayed at the bar a little late that night, Rod. Yeah, I think so. It might have been the environment. I just know he's like, why are we going to do it? I'm like, well, we can't leave the coyote sitting there. Two, you know, two thirds dead on the soul.

11:12We had to, I was bad. It was just, I don't know what's happening to this segment. Last week, we had French bulldogs. Now we've got coyotes. So it's going to have to be a nature report. Yes. This segment's getting coyote ugly to say the least. All right. So, I got to ask you this because you're in Toronto. It's the hub of the hockey world. The Leafs have dropped eight seat. I mean, they came in Edmonton and the orders took a bad, Yanmar took a bad penalty on a five on four that became a five on three and then Toronto scored two quick ones and one five two with an empty generator or whatever it was. That was the last win for Toronto. They've dropped eight straight games. I mean, how bad, like, what's your sense of where, what, you know, is it has gone from passion and caring to, you know, relative ambivalence? Where are we at with the fan base and Tio? Honestly, when I played beer league hockey now, we're talking about the Montreal Canadians. That's how bad it's gotten. So, I mean, there's just a feeling of resignation. There's a, there's a slight group holding on to the fact

12:14that this was a one-off, that next year, you know, with a few changes, you know, a healthy tan of, or somebody replacing tan of, that they can kind of get back into the thick of the thing. And that's, you know, they've been trying that the Leafs themselves, trying to paint it, as look what the Boston Bruins were able to do. And even, you know, you can definitely see Winnipeg in Washington having fallen off the face of the Earth. It's not that that helps the situation in Toronto, but it does show you the parity of the NHL and how crazy things can go one way or the other. So, you kind of are asking, how are the Oilers now? Are they right at the ship? And I like their game Tuesday. And I mean, it's only two games. But what I felt watching the game on Tuesday night was that Colorado was a little bit loose. They were a lot of hillmarries, a lot of hope passes, a lot of too many passes. They were having fun. They came out the big hit, obviously Ross Colton right away on Emberson. They did on the first 10 minutes, but I thought they were a little high on their horse. And I thought, you know, they better be careful. You can't go into the playoffs playing the kind of game they're playing.

13:15And Edmonton just kind of hung in there. In the end, 22 block shots, the Oilers, which is a huge part of the win, to I think 11 for Colorado. They outhit them double the same thing. So the Edmonton game, I thought, even although it didn't have as much pizzazz in the first part, I thought was playoff ready. You know, that's where they're trying to get. They're trying to defend. They're trying to do the things when you games in a month from now. And I kind of sensed the opposite with Colorado. So it was just, that was my observation. I don't know what you felt. The Montreal goalie was unreal. So he, you know, he kind of, I mean, Montreal was honestly the shots show Ottawa had the edge. But I didn't feel that watching the game. Devadoff had a hell of a game. Yeah, he's the winner. He was really, really impressive last night. And I thought Luke Gassick pointed out Lane Hudson who is absolutely driving the offense. You know, they're, they're Hiver Kevin Coles, the new triumvirate with Matheson and Dobson and Hudson, the three sons. They are really effective and they can drive an offense and Rulie's not far behind. You know, offensively and certainly a huge,

15:16you know, forced defensively. So they look really good. And I thought Ottawa, you know, they missed Jake Sanderson. Spence did a great job filling in, but they rooting you to him when they're going that tough. And that's all about giving up a softie. I'll never understand that sequence of moves with LA. I thought they should have played Jordan Spence in. Brent Clark Morgan, Stemerton last year. Yes, obviously. They then turn around and traded Spence to Ottawa, who for me was going to be a cost-controlled third-parent right shot. Dee, they turn around and sign. I love Cody Sees. You love him. Great guy. But four years at four and a half million. I mean, that one was perplexing to say the least. Montreal, you know, I mean, this shows called voters now, Ron. We want, you know, there's, you know, we're not officially cheerleading on the air, but make no mistake. You know, you go in every game and you want to see your team win. And the orders have got to find a way to Willoway and Ole Plouse. But the Canadians, this might be the start. And I know they got bounce first round last year, but if you look at the age group of their core players, they could be really good for a number of years.

16:18Well, and as you know, Bob, they were this close to knives because they have prospects. So it isn't just the guys, you know, 80% of their goals and points come from guys 26 and under. It isn't just the ones you're watching on Hockey-Natin Canada right now. They have a pipeline. They have love out. That is, you know, really coveted by teams around the NHL. So they've done an amazing job of writing that one and making them a mighty Montreal Canadians against. Now, do you have any Dallas stories for us? Because we're down here in Big D. We're at the American Airlines Center right now. I got Bill Gagger here who's been my engineer in Dallas for over a decade. I did go to the first year I came down. It was in 2001 when I was doing font-court in stats because David Moria wasn't available out West. So of course, I went to the school book deposit where he had the sixth floor and said, yeah, there's no way there was only one good one shooter. But, yeah, but he was my favorite story about Dallas and I do kind of cheer for them. I mean, I like a lot of people in their organization.

17:18Go ahead, obviously, behind the bench in Jim Nale. With Tom Galerti, we were doing Scotia Bank Hockey Day in Canada in Camelux, which is basically, you know, headquarters for Tom and his empire of whatever it is, trucks clubs and so forth. And we were, we played an alumni game. Rob Brown was there. He and I combined on a really nice goal. I told you, Rob would always say to be Ron. If I give you the puck, give it right back. I didn't mean it. Anyway, we had a great game and then we went and behaved like you did up in Grand Prairie that one night and it was kind of a late night and fuzzy Friday and then Saturday Show Day. And I remember it was a really beautiful day in Camelux plus, I don't know, 11 or 12 degrees sun was shining. So felt healthy again after I haven't been banged up on the Thursday night. And all of a sudden there's a gentleman walking over to me where I'm hosting in kind of an outdoor situation, his combination of outdoor rinks and plastic rinks. And the man walking is Tom Galerti. And he came all the way from the hotel. He had to be, I don't know, at least a kilometer.

18:19He walked over just to say goodbye before he jumped on his jet and headed back to Dallas and his NHL scene. So a kind of cheer for Tom ever since that kind gesture of coming to say goodbye after we had the fun night on the Thursday. Yeah, guys love playing here.
