Murph & Andy: Cy-Hawk Upsets and Michigan's Freefall

0:00Welcome to Murf and Andy here. We are live from Montezuma and it turns out we're in the town square I was asked many times this morning where we're gonna be. I'm sorry to know the answer. I was probably told For God, but this is this is a beautiful town square. This is the county seat of which county you got it? Come on off top Your head. Palishe. There you go. I saw it over there on the the freedom rock. Yep. I was she yep Right. Yeah. Palishe County County. Yeah. Mike Mahaffey. He had turned here in town. He told me this is the second oldest Working courthouse in the state of Iowa. Wow. Yeah, I did not know that. I think they're doing some renovations on it No, it's really really nice like nearing 200 years old. Yeah, the these town squares always make for good settings for RV TV And they're just kind of get set up right now. It is incredible the difference a day makes because this time yesterday The heat index was already pushing up near a hundred and by the time in Milo when we were doing our RV TV 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

1:01coverage it was 105 feels like temperature and then the shelf cloud moved into Monizuma I think by I'm sorry my life we're in Monizuma now and yeah, I have a photo of it here and you can see it moving in now This is after the Metro had already been hammered with storms, but it came into Milo and Got some pretty hard rain there you can feel the temperature drop about 20 degrees or the feels like temperature It was yeah, it was crazy. It was so hot and and there was no wind Oh, we were just we were just baking in the humidity and you can just tell that something was going on And I had sunglasses on I looked up the sky and I was like is that blue sky over there is that some sort of cloud cover and Lee Rouse our photographers like no, that's the front end of what's going on in the western part of the Metro right now And so I walked over to the RV and and the news is on inside and

2:06Whoa, that was a interesting effect there all hell was breaking loose In the western part of the Metro and it Brad Edwards is bad it was severe weather and we had Ed Wilson Get with us out of them. We had we had we had taken Ed Wilson away. So We were thankful that Brad was there. Yes, they were real man. It was a great job Busy day of severe weather. I mean it got bad and then Ed and I were driving from Milo and I got some Video of this as we were leaving their last night and it was it It got to the point where you couldn't see Five feet ahead of you. I don't think Ed sees too well anyway. So at this point I'm feeling like this could be a die This could be the end, but you know, I'm going down with a friend This is gonna be okay, but we did make it safely God that did it was bad last time we were as Sears and Sipkerni were driving home And John was driving like down the middle of the highway in Indian oil. They've just like the sky was falling

3:08Rain and rain the whole way back and I was thankful that we were on the four lane highway because I bet some of those Smaller two lane county highways had water over the road last time it was raining so hard. Yeah, there's a lot of flesh flooding a lot of flooding And then I went home and It had kind of let up in Westamoyen Clearly they had already had a lot of rain But then I woke up like two hours later and it it was like daylight outside There was so much lightning I could see down the block and it was pouring down rain at my house We got seven inches of rain. Oh, geez man. That's a lot of rain at the at the airport Which is always like on the light side of everything it seems like that airport? Yes meter whether it's snow or rain does seem like it got almost six inches of rain. Oh, it was it was crazy Water was pouring into the damn pub. I'm seeing some of the comments here on on YouTube Gens the Vikings as sirens were going off an agony it I turned on 13 and Murph was live Yeah, you got to do a little RV TV hit there show the street party

6:1314 and a half point favorite that line did move after Saturday So at least from the way people bet on what they saw That would lead you to believe that some thought Iowa looked a little better than expected at 40 to nothing and Maybe they saw some Room for improvement from Iowa State, but Iowa State looking promising Iowa looked impressive hard to tell a whole lot against Seamo and Northern Illinois, but the line did move to Iowa being favored by 14 and a half and the half point of course matters because You could win a game by 14 and and not cover and that would be a big win because in the past 10 years The game has been decided by fewer than 10 points every time, but those 10 years go back to Matt Campbell's first year When Iowa State was blown out 42 to three so In the first game by

7:14An Iowa State coach against Kirk Farons the record is one and two so Matt Campbell got blown out Paul Rhodes got blown out 35 to three Matt Campbell got blown out 42 to three Gene Chizek is the only first year coach at Iowa State to beat Kirk Farons in the Sihawk game 15-13 in the Shaggy feel goal game in 2007 and Iowa State was o and two going into that game Yeah, and those are those of us who were around for that game and remember that game know what a crazy Freakish game that was right? 8:14Rebuilding and it's not surprising that they would lose to the more established programming The team that wasn't switching its coach And that's kind of what we've seen recently And I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the same thing on Saturday Let's hear from both coaches now. We'll start with Kirk Farons on Iowa State You know really for 20 plus years has been a really competitive tight series you look at the last six games And that's basically three three and the games have been decided by Roughly four and a half points. So I think that's really what you can expect again Saturday the two teams get together and it's it is Really hitting hotly contested game and I can't imagine that being Any different this week's the only motivation we have is the opportunity to play on Saturday and you know We're gonna be at our best To compete compete Attention to detail Physicality It's a gathering there definitely a challenge they bring a bunch of different personels

9:18And then they have great athletes great quarterback running back receivers Got some guys that can hurt you, but I think the biggest thing is just all the different personels that they have All right, so The key and it's very remarkably similar to the same things we say here on RV TV Attention to detail Togetherness discipline discipline and physicality those are the four keys to the game and to what we're doing Here is Jimmy Rogers who called Kirk Farons a legend and showed much respect for the Iowa football program for one They're very well coach Kirk Farons is Legend in coaching What he's been able to do the The Longgevity in which he's had in his career is unbelievable. He's an awesome person. So That but they're physical and they play technically sound and they um They don't care if you know what they're doing they're gonna they're gonna do it and um

10:18We got to come out and match their physicality for 60 minutes in the game. They play very hard You can tell they're super confident comfortable with each other by the way they communicate and The way they work all together and like the back in They're super synchronized and they do well disguising what they want to do Pre-snap and post-snap But yeah, you can tell they play Very connected. Obviously. We're walking in there and 70,000 people are gonna hate us That's it's gonna be an awesome opportunity to go and play there at night, but just watching growing up watching the games every now and then Um looks unbelievable. No rovories are you know I don't want to say the same wherever you go because people from the state are gonna appreciate one rov Be more than another um, but what I can understand is how both sides to this rovory that I'm new to Appreciate the hell out of both of their teams. I can really respect the fans who come out and support their team Iowa state has some players kind of in the position of uh Yeah, I'll talk about this rivalry, but I'm just kind of learning about it. 11:22I mean many of them came from Washington state some came from FCS programs and For those who didn't grow up in the state they have had to do a crash course and learning about this rivalry and they have I think Jimmy Rogers though. I probably the thing he has said about the Iowa. They got the most traction was this That's his most famous comment long long-term plan there for him. Yeah long-term plan Yeah, that that was a really good quote that he just said of of this game coming up this weekend Iowa knows you know What they're going to do and they don't care That was good. Yeah, not really that's really true. That is really true, but I think in this case It's better for Iowa's because Iowa. Iowa doesn't know what Iowa states going to do you know what I was going to do It probably doesn't matter But like you really you have one game of film on this new Iowa state team and Iowa what they try to do is

12:28Really go at whatever they perceive your weakness to be but they probably aren't sure what that is yet I mean, I then they also just played at their own strengths. I mean how many game how many Iowa state games are we seeing where I would just get in that position of punting them to death Pitting them deep in their own zone where they can't get out Forcing Iowa state to kick the ball back to them. They get slightly better field position Maybe Iowa scores. Maybe they don't it doesn't really eventually. They're going to get their chance Either to pick six or fumble recovery deep in the answer They're going to put enough offense together to get the touchdown there But they're just going to play that game and we've seen them kind of Move into that game plan early on so many times and I mean the the opponent I was state always knows that they're going to do that But they can't stop them in those years now. I was state has done really well recently But in those good years for Iowa Yeah, I was state knows what I was going to do but they can't do anything about it

Iowa state upsets Iowa again or Iowa wins by 29 or more My opinion is Iowa wins by 29 or more this year I can This feels like a game where I mean obviously I was I was states turning everybody over Looks like Iowa has a very solid offensive line probably defensive line I just think it's gonna be a really really tall task for Iowa state to move the ball on Iowa this weekend and While we you know the jury is still out on I was quarterback situation the offense maybe um I think

16:37I still Can feel like a 35 to three game here I can see that happening but I'm gonna go the other way on this just because I mean Iowa can win this game by 28 and that would still be under the 29 or over And I do think if you look at Jimmy Rogers and the defense and the defense that he emphasizes and the aggressiveness of that defense And Iowa being very unsettled still at the quarterback position I think that's enough I mean you know that's out to coat a state team that he was in charge of defensively didn't score a touchdown at kinex stadium These aren't those same two teams But still I I'll I'll take the under 29 right now and he this is gonna shock you on this vote. See I I'm opposite on this I believe to this day I eat by section and put the food by section because of how many tv dinners I had like I eat I eat a grouping at a time I move around the tray You could do it like that as well, but those were so good now it turns out. I mean they're they're like so full of salt Oh you think Highly processed yeah, the only one more only thing more full of salt is David Warrington Yeah, after yesterday. Oh geez poor guy Um, but yeah, I mean we would have these tv dinners and and you'd just be like oh my mom makes these for me because she loves me

My movie it's kind of kind of the same premise That I haven't picked forever before and it's a really well-known movie Rainman is a good road trip movie there in that awesome old Buick Roadmaster convertible That is that is what Charlie Charlie Bab its dad Willed him that car and then his unbeknownst to him he has this older brother Who is autistic and he that's dusting off but of course he won the Oscar for this role He had no idea he has this older brother and his older brother gets the entire all the money that is with their dad dies and Ray gets all the money and Charlie just gets the car Charlie's angry about that so we kind of kidnaps Ray and takes them on the road on the bonones to him

51:53This is going to be a difficult road trip for him and he thinks he can just with love and brotherhood and friendship Reach him. Yeah, reach him, but he's you know, he's he's not or kind of pulling him too at the first Because he's really cold. He's not but as they are together longer. He they he kind of gets to know him and And you first of all I don't I feel like this is kind of The point where the world becomes aware of autism You know people that aren't directly dealing with that with family member a loved one And it kind of opens the world's eyes to this condition the toothpicks fall and he knows the exact count Yeah, to some you know not only to some to some real difficulties for those people But also some of their incredible abilities that they can have Yeah as well and the sensibility sensitivity to loud noises and that's also how you learn what rain man You learn that his name is Raymond.
