Losing the Crown: Kings, Vision, and the Virgin Birth (Ep. 223)

In this Bible Study Sunday edition, I walk through Israel’s transition from judges to kings and the danger of comparing ourselves to the world. We revisit Saul—the people’s choice—and David—God’s choice—to draw out what God values most: the heart. From there, we survey key kings, the division of the kingdom, and why imitating worldly power corrodes vision and faith.

Along the way, I unpack the Jehoiakim/Jehoiachin (Coniah) curse to show a compelling, “political” proof of the virgin birth, then turn to Lamentations to reflect on how a people lose their crown when they lose their God-given vision—contrasting that with Caleb’s steadfast faith in Joshua 14.

We close by urging personal examination, renewed zeal for the Gospel’s “foolishness” of preaching, and a call to recover our vision before it’s too late.
