Laos cave rescuers race against time to find remaining missing men

An international team of specialist divers and expert climbers is racing against time in central Laos to locate two gold miners who remain missing deep inside a heavily flooded cave system.
The men are part of a group of eight villagers who entered the informal, hand-dug mining tunnels in Xaisomboun province on May 20, 2026, before sudden monsoon downpours triggered flash flooding and landslides that sealed the entrance. One miner initially escaped to sound the alarm, and a complex rescue operation successfully extracted five other trapped survivors over the weekend. However, the search for the final two men has grown increasingly perilous.
