For the next 45 minutes to an hour, Tyler LaRocca and I will argue about whether Nick Bosa is wearing a knee brace or a knee sleeve. What's up? Welcome to LaRocca's corner or the instant reaction to Nick Bosa's knee sleeve slash brace presented by prize picks. I'm Grant Cohn. That's Tyler, see LaRocca. You guys have probably seen the video by now.

First of all, this morning, Ian Rapp report reported that Nick Bosa is going to Australia as long as as well as George Kittle. Bosa hadn't practiced yet. He practiced, he's practicing right now. He's out there and he's got a big thing called a thing on his right knee. Haven't seen that on his knee before, didn't have it earlier. It's the kind of thing that Ricky Peersol had right before his season ended. How does Nick Bosa look to you, Tyler? I mean, he looks like he has a nice beautiful compression sleeve as I was told on his bad knee. Same compression sleeve, not soft brace that Ricky had on his knee before his PCL went out. It's, again, I'm not there, but it still looks like the clips like he's favoring the knee. I mean, I don't doubt it. I think that I think rushing Nick back is just so silly, but the Niners want to win this game. They need to win this game.

So that's how they're preparing for it. Yeah, I mean, to me, this is, I wouldn't read anything into this. I mean, they want him to play the bringing him to Australia, but it's still like Nick, it's his body and he knows how he feels and this feels like a lot like how the Niners treated Ricky to your point. Like Ricky, his knee was never right. And we saw all off season, he was training with that brace on his knee. He came back to training camp with the brace on his knee and it looked clunky. It revealed that he wasn't feeling 100% right. He lasted about two or three days and his knee swelled up and he said, I can't do this. And then he got surgery. So to me, like, is it a good sign? Yeah, I mean, it's better than him not being out there, but I still feel like it's a diagnostic. And when the week started, they said he was going to have two practices and ended up being one. George Kittle had three. I think those guys are in very different places. George Kittle isn't wearing any type of a brace. Nick Bosa is so I wouldn't be surprised.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to Australia and practices and feel some discomfort and says, guys, I want to play. I came all all the way out here at my intentions were pure. I just can't and that would be really rough to bring him out there and then to not play him and then miss an opportunity for him to really rest and recover. Yeah, those tickets are expensive too. So, you know, it is one of those things where it is, it does seem like the Niners. I think you posted it earlier. The Niners are really going into this game as like, this is I must win. We have to win this football game. Whereas the Rams, like you see with Miles Garrett, like they're kind of like, yeah, I mean, we'll see Miles play a football play. Aaron Doddell's like, he'll probably play week two or week three. The Rams are kind of going in there and being like, whatever happens happens, which like, it kind of reminds me of how the Niners went in there last year with Mac Jones and beat the Rams because the like the Niners just went in there.

We have Mac Jones, DeMarcus Robinson is like our starting guys. We'll see what happens with this game and it seems like that's the kind of energy the Rams are taking in this game. And with Nick, it's just he's one of those players where the defense can not seemingly function without him. And if he is gone, I would be like, he would be someone I'm super, super careful about because I don't think the defense will function at all without him. We don't talk about like our realistic expectations for both of you. If he does play, let's say best case scenario, he practices today, flies out there, practices Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and is good to go. Even if he does all that with no soreness or tendonitis, which is a huge question, should he play like his typical 75% of the snaps? Should he start? Should he be on the field to defend run plays or would the best way to use Bosa coming

off this injury and basically no offseason is like at first as like a third down past rushing specialist? I mean, that's what I would do. And I think he could have an impact in the game, but that would be like not your typical Bosa. Yeah, that's my thing is again, with how he looks with the brace, like you're not wearing a brace for fun. He's not just putting it on because, oh yeah, it's nothing. I'm just wearing it because he's putting it on obviously because there's still some sort of discomfort or he doesn't feel super comfortable with it. Like that's my guess. If you try and force him to be 100% play all of his snaps, let's just get him back as soon as possible. I think that's a huge mistake because it's a long season. It's a very long season. Winning week one against the Rams is huge. Yes, this division's very competitive, but I don't think it's worth risking losing Bosa for the season because otherwise you're going to be in the same position you were last

year where you have no past rush and you're sitting there like them. I wish we let Bosa heal longer. Do you have a work injury? I mean, I could see the Niners winning this game. I mean, the Rams aren't taking it that seriously. The Niners beat. I mean, funny things happen week one. Last year, the Niners won week one. Brock Perty threw a couple of meatball subs up for grabs that should have been intercepted, but there were one was a touchdown to Jake Tonjes. I mean, one was a deep completion to Ricky Peersaw that also should have been intercepted. Both were awfully, awfully played by that guy who's not even on the team anymore.

Requilin. Sam Darnal fumbled, running into his own player. There were fluky things that happened only in week one. Ultimately didn't indicate which team was better. I worry that the Niners are in this mindset where they're almost like expecting to be derailed at some point in the season due to injury. They can at least point to this game and say, hey, when we were healthy, we beat the Rams. And that proves that we were the best team to link. Yeah. Although, I'm not sure that they're going to be the Rams. Again, I, one, I don't trust international games. International games always play out super weird. And then it's a divisional game on top of that. Like, it's one of those things where I just, it's truly a coin flip. Our team could win genuinely either team could win, especially if Miles Garrett and Aaron Donald don't play either team could win. My biggest question for the Niners in this game is, can you stop the Rams running game? And I don't know that Nick Bolson necessarily helps that coming off of no off season.

I would hope that they don't really throw them out there as a run defender very often. So who's going to stop the run? The last time the Niners faced the Rams with Dre Green law, they held them to 12 points. Devon Say Adams wasn't on that team. But that was like the best, the last great game that Dre Green law played. And I don't know if you can do that. He needs to be great in this game for the Niners to win. Otherwise, it's going to be Fred Warner and Jaden Dugger and God knows against a Rams offense that's going to run for 150 and three touchdowns. Yeah. Without Mike Hill, without Nick, Alfred Collins looks so bad compared to how he looked last year. And last year, it's not like he looked spectacular. CJ West doesn't look good. Osa's more of a past rusher than a run stopper. This could be a long game on the ground, which, you know, it's one of those things where I see why the Niners want Nick back, but we always get in trouble trying to rush people

back, man. I feel like it's not, it's not a smart idea to try and rush him back. Unless he truly feels 100%, but if my opinion, if he was feeling 100%, he would not have a brace on his knee. Yeah, they do this all the time. They did it a month ago with Ricky Pearceau. I hope they're not doing it again with Nick Boso because if they get him injured because he came back too soon, then you can't use the injury excuse. It's your fault, you're culpable. And we all know that the data is out there. This is not a first time ACL tear. This is second time he's torn it in the right knee. It's called a revision ACL reconstruction. The first ACL tear, the rehab is nine to 12 months. The second one is 12 to 18 months. It's been 11 months since he tore it. So this is all very aggressive. And if it works out, God love you. If it doesn't, it's your fault. More injury news, Jack Jones, who is sort of in line to start week one because Ronaldo Green's still out with a hamstring injury went down early in practice today, watched him shuffle off the field and come back and spend the rest of the time with the trainer while

stretching out what appeared to be his calves. So don't know what's going on with Jack Jones. He definitely started practice and then didn't finish practice. He could be back tomorrow or not. But I think it's interesting that that number two cornerback spot is in flux for week one, Ronaldo Green will start if he's healthy. He's done a good job against the Rams in the past, but no guarantee, no guarantee, Jack Jones will be out there. And I actually love the idea of starting Ephesians price stock. He actually is healthy. And he just took Dorel Luder Jr's number. So maybe this is a good thing too. I mean, I'm not saying it's good that Jack Jones got hurt, but it gives the Niners at least an opportunity to see what it looks like with price stock in the starting lineup. Yeah, I mean, I think if you can get a look at him, that's great. He still looks super raw. But again, he's a freak athletically. He's got great physicals. I'd love to see what he has to do, like what he can do. I mean, you might have to with Jack Jones and what's his name, Ronaldo out.

It's the entry train keeps on rolling, man. This is not this isn't fantastic. Because Jack Jones actually been pretty decent and he has been, he's been good against the run. He's made plays in preseason. He's highly graded. They like him. I'm just, yeah, I just, I wish they'd throw him back at safety or price off, put price off at safety, put someone else at safety. Because yeah, I don't know what they're going to do without Jack Jones and Ronaldo. Again, it could be a long day. You're playing at some VP quarterback, probably Puka Devonte Adams. It's again, it's going to be a long day without some corners. I don't know, it just doesn't stop. It doesn't stop. Yeah, but I actually really like Ephesians' price stock. I think that he has the talent to be the best rookie in this class.

I like struggling in Kaelin Black a lot. Are they going to be, I guess, struggling going to be a number one wide receiver, a pro roller, maybe. Is Kaelin Black going to be like a probo starting running back, maybe? He's my best. But I think that price stock really does have the talent to be like a number one corner back. And one on one against struggling, it'd be an interesting matchup. I never saw it happen because he's bigger than struggling. He's not faster than struggling, but interesting matchup. I actually, if I was going to rank the rookies on the team right now, just where they are right now, I'd go struggling one black to price stock three. So I hope he plays. I hope he plays. I hope he at least gets in like a, like he rotates in. Like you never know if it's just camps for cramps or something for Jack Jones, maybe it was just cramping. Could just be cramps. Absolutely. But Renardo, I'd love to see him rotate in with Jack Jones and up and stout. Maybe run a little, maybe run a little dime action. Get him out there. I don't know. All right. Let's talk about the different approaches to this trip. As we know, as we've heard, the Niners are going tonight. I'm going tonight. They want to acclimate completely and be on Australia time for this game, which is a week from tomorrow. The Rams are flying a week from today. They're just parachuting in the day before and then leaving right after. I think on the surface, it looks like the Niners are taking this game more seriously than the Rams. It means more to them than the Rams. This is a divisional grudge match game. The Niners didn't go to the Netsi Championship game last year. Haven't won a Super Bowl. In a lot of ways, this is sort of their Super Bowl. Kyle measures himself against Sean McVey.

The Niners measure themselves to get the Rams. If they win this game, it's a big deal for them. The Rams don't seem to be as concerned. Maybe they feel they have a different, better scientific approach about preparing for this game. What do you think about the differing approaches to the trip? I think it's different approaches even to their team, to how they want to start the season. Rams are saying, okay, Miles isn't 100%. Aaron Donald isn't 100%. Who knows what's going to happen with him? Maybe let's just take this one, not easy. I don't think they're taking the Niners lightly, but let's just get out of their healthy. If we win, we lose whatever. Let's get out of their healthy because our next two games are also difficult. You don't want to start the season losing to a division rival and then on top of that losing your next two games if you're the Rams. The Niners on the other hand, they have some guys hurt. The Niners are seeing it as, let's get this win at all costs against the Rams.

Because our next two games are easy and if Nick is sore, if George is sore, if Christian sore, we can beat Miami and Arizona without those two or three, whoever's sore and hurt and injured. Whereas the Rams, again, it's the complete opposite. We have two tough games back to back afterwards. Yeah, if people don't know, they got the giants and then they got the Broncos on the road and then they got the Eagles on the road and then they have the bills. The next four games for the Rams are really tough. They conceivably could start the season 0 and 5 if they're not careful. 0 and 5. Yeah. And the Niners, again, I think at worst they will start the season two and one. That's definitely what they're thinking. Yeah. So, I do agree with the Niners. I respect. Let's get there early. Let's be fully prepared. Let's try and win this games at all costs. If Nick, Christian or George or sore, I wouldn't play Nick personally. But if George and Christian or sore, they can sit. We don't have to force them to.

Also, they can make an impact in the game, like not doing this. Being on the field, Nick Bose will draw his attention, George Kittle draws attention. They could be sort of like glorified decoys at worst. Yeah. And so I think they're just, they have two completely different schedules and they have two completely different mindsets about this game where the Rams are. Let's get out healthy because we have three straight wars first three weeks where the Niners are like, let's win this game at all costs because our next two games are pretty easy. And so if we have to, we can rest some guys. They can sit. They can recover. Not saying like dolphins and cardinals are byweaks. That's disrespectful. But it pretty just dropped like 50 on them last year with the Marcus Robinson. You know, he doesn't need much. Yeah. What I think is interesting about this is like we're painting it or I'm painting it as well. The Niners are taking this more seriously. It means more to them. I think the Rams might disagree with that and they might say, look, like we just have

different trainers and scientists that we have different information. We actually think we're doing the right thing. So I think the science behind this is interesting from the Niners perspective. They're getting there a week early so that they'll acclimate to Australia time. The downside is they'll be super jet lag the next week, but they're facing the dolphins who are tanking. The other downside is the game is actually being played at 10 30 AM local Australia at Melbourne time. Anytime you play a game at 10 AM, that's tough. Like you try to what they complain about those all of the time when they have to fly to the East Coast, what's a 10 AM body clock game? You're giving yourself a 10 AM body clock game. So it's fair to wonder if the Niners start a little slow and then wake up by half time or the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Rams seem like they're in the opposite position. They're still going to be on California time. It's going to be played at 5 30 California time. Maybe their bodies will be like up for the game, but then will the jet lag hit them in the second quarter to the third quarter? Will they start off faster? Will they finish poorly?

It'll be really interesting, but again, it feels like such a fluky game that probably won't indicate one way or another about where these two teams are going. Yeah, I completely agree. And international games to me are always coin flips. They could go either way. You never know how that's going to work. I, again, I know the Rams have scientists that are much smarter than me. It doesn't seem very intelligent to take a 13, 14 hour flight the day before you're playing one of the most physical sports in the world. But I mean, like if the Niners were going to play in Atlanta or New York, they would fly out on a Friday, not a Saturday. The idea of flying out the day before is great. But again, they're trying to avoid acclimating to the time. Yeah. It is, it is interesting because again, I think I just got to be tired from sitting on a, or being a plane. It's going to be tired. That's what I'm saying. Like whenever I take even like a five to six hour trip, that next day, I'm like, all right, I'm just kind of chill in. I had a travel day the other day. I, again, if it was the Niners doing this, I would be criticizing them.

I'm like, this is stupid. What are you doing? You're going to get people hurt. So I'm giving that same energy to the Rams. I really do think it's dumb. It's an interesting from like a mental perspective though. Like if the Rams lose week one, they can kind of tell themselves like, I mean, it's not the end of the world. It's a fluke game. It was in Australia. Maybe we didn't play a couple of our, maybe we were being cautious. Maybe we're playing the long game. Like it's not going to mentally crush them. Yeah. But if the Niners go a week early and lose to a team that just pops in, I don't know if it's going to crush them mentally, but that's a much bigger blow. It definitely is, but I do think again, because if you're the Niners, you have your two two-nup games after, right? Yeah. So even if you lose, that's why I don't think either way this is going to hurt the Niners. If you go, you lose that sucks. For sure. Yeah. You could always chalk it. Niners are great at excuses too. You could always chalk it up to international game, whatever. Sure. And then you go beat the snot out of the dolphins and the Cardinals and back to the literature.

Yeah. We're back. We're insane. We just dropped the hundred points in two games almost. You know, you just abuse two horrible teams, which is great. Yeah, but the problem is after that, you got Broncos and Seahawks. For sure. The Niners really could start the season two and three, but so could the Rams. For sure. They definitely could. But I would rather have two really soft games before I'm playing the Broncos than literally doing what the Rams are doing. I have to go to my biggest division rival, then into the Giants who have a good defense, and at Matt life, and then go into the Broncos. But I really, I think the Niners are playing this one smart. I besides the rushing Nick back, I would probably have kept Nick home, but I think it's smart. Go out there, try and win at all costs. Take this super seriously because you have a really good chance at starting three and O. And if you don't, you have two tune up games right after it with the Rams. I think you're very, very much risking getting someone hurt.

I think it's really silly, but I'm not a scientist, so I wouldn't know. And so far, worst case scenario, worst case scenario that I should start should start the season two and one worst case. 100 if they're one and two after the first three weeks, something really bad. Something went wrong. Yeah, that would be rough. Yeah, that would be and I would blame Alguido for that. All right, it's price picks time. Let's get the let's get hold on. All right. This is a couple of days ago, but Kyle Sandin hinted that George Kittle took a step back and then Kittle freaked out. And then Adam Schaffer said he didn't take a step back. And then we asked Kyle Sandin about it two days ago and he said he misspoke. Would you make it then? Well, I was getting tweeted out like, oh, you guys are just mad, you're all wrong about it. Kyle said he took a step back, but everyone's saying like the media came up with this that he took a step back. It's like, no, Kyle literally said George took a step back. Some people were like deciphering it like, yeah, he meant George is taking a step back towards playing. But I've never heard anyone use that phrase in the English language to say he's taking a step back towards playing. No, I don't know what happened, but it's either he just, his brain malfunction

and he started speaking gibberish for a second. Or he says something he wasn't supposed to say and George yelled at him. And he took it back because whatever step back, George took didn't cost him a practice. Yeah. That was really confusing to me where... Yeah, I meant step back towards playing. I feel like you'd use different wording. But yeah, maybe he just zoned out and he went into like, like media mode. He's like, yeah, yeah, he took a step back. Yep. And it's like...
