Why have I asked my electrician I found on Angie.com to bury my pet hamster nibbles in our yard for me? Because... I was so moved by how carefully he buried my electrical wires. I knew I could trust him to bury my sweet nibbles after his untimely end. Huh. Nibbles. Gone too soon. May he scurry in peace. They say about your pet, but I just wire stuff. Nibbles would have loved you like a brother. Connecting homeowners with skilled pros for over 30 years. Angie, the one you trust to find the ones you trust. Welcome back. It's a midday show. It's a good song, man. It is a good song. Hugh Douglas, Joe Gilliam. Are you going anywhere for St. Patty's Day? On a Tuesday? I'm just saying, ain't St. Patty's Day Tuesday. Yeah, but like, what are you doing on a Tuesday? Are you going to get banged up? No, definitely not getting banged up, man. I mean, getting banged up and going somewhere are two totally different things. Well, you're having a couple drinks in the house. You might want to go somewhere and listen to some music. That's all I'm saying. You might want to listen to some Irish music. I wouldn't mind if you had a place for me to go, but like, I wasn't planning on going anywhere. I'm pretty sure there's going to be some Tuesday. I wouldn't mind going somewhere and listen to some music. Yeah. Maybe some Irish music, listen, and then have some bangers and mash, maybe. Why not? Have some green beer? I'd have some green beer if you give me some green beer. I don't know. Maybe you're here. I could see you being weirded out by the color. I already could feel it. Yeah. I'm not drinking me green beer at all. Oh, that's more for me. Not for me. But we'll do the, uh, we'll do the, uh, what's that? Guinness? Do some Guinness?
Sure. Do some Guinness? Yeah. Do some telemore. Be honest. I'll tell you what, telemore is pretty good. To tell them what to do. That's pretty good. That's some pretty good liquor. Be honest. You're going to go home and go to sleep. I'm, I'm seven. I'm feeding everybody a dream. I ain't going to be drunk. I got some 30 print. Right to 94. 94. It actually a fun intro. It lead into the, uh, the segment here because our last, uh, you know, kind of, on a sea insider thing there was our buddy Nick Costos. Nick. Basically reading the tea leaves on this and saying, yeah, Jay Brown is going to be somewhere else soon and later because of what's going on here. I think most of us believe that. I believe deep down after another weekend of rumors and the Goddard thing done and the Rams thing which came out and almost nowhere on Friday and seemed like it got to the point where some people were thinking, maybe the Rams are actually going to land AJ Brown that this is going to happen. I think most of us fully believe most of this is going to happen. All right. So let's get a little updated, um, temperature check from Hugh Douglas here. Hugh, you have been. Don't believe it. It's dead fast and nonsense. Don't believe it. You actually think he's going to be on the team.
Yes. You are wild. You know, it's funny. I can, I could just hear people in the car called me idiot right now. I mean, it's cool. I'm, I'm okay with that. I have big shoulders. I have broad shoulders. But I, I, I don't believe it. I know what's being reported. I've seen the reports. It's my gut more than anything. And I know like Nick said, there's been so much talk about this. You'll be foolish not to think that he is getting traded. But here I present to you a fool. I, the fool, I, the fool, don't think he's getting traded. I, I, I just don't believe it, man. I, I don't believe it. I will die on this hill. I will stand remains. You know, I'm fast. I don't believe you that you don't believe it. No, I do believe it. I do believe it. And cow, every day that I sit here and I hear different reports and, and like Joe said, Friday and everybody's always about to happen. Still didn't believe it. I remain steadfast thinking that he's going to be here. But doesn't it feel like it's slippery slope you're on? Like it's going to end one day, like tomorrow, today, next week, June 1st.
Joe, draft night. I have been super comfortable. Being wrong in my assessment about a lot of things. This is no different than any other time that I've been wrong. Trying to figure out why you want to be wrong on this one. I don't, I don't want to be wrong. This is what I feel this in my spirit. And you're so. I feel it in my soul that he's going to be here. And like I said, I can hear, every time I say that, I hear the people in the car saying this guy's an idiot. Well, imagine there's probably a group tag somewhere like this. You still believe this? Yeah. He's an idiot. That dumb, he's, that is a big dumb. But I, I just believe that it's not going to happen. I, I don't think it's going to happen. So we had a phone call last segment talking about, you know, right now the Eagles have the leverage because AJ's not causing a stink. Let me ask this question. Do we think this is going to be smooth? If we get to OTA slash we get to the next time people have to report? I, that's where I think, I think this is all everyone's at home right now. So for the most part, AJ's at a site, at a mine because it's the player's off season.
Once we get back to, he's either supposed to be here and he doesn't show up or he shows up and doesn't want to talk or he shows up and he's grumpy or he shows up and he doesn't want to talk to the media. This becomes the kind of thing where it feels like their Eagles are not in control of anymore. I personally, I don't think we could, they could bring him back if they're still planning to trade him. Like if you're right here and then he's going to be here, that's different. But if they are still like thinking about trading him and they bring him back, I think this is going to go from kind of uncomfortable to really uncomfortable. I think that if AJ is going to be here, which I do, I think that he's going to talk about hey, I'm an eagle, he's going to, he's going to bury it as much as he possibly can. I don't believe that he's going to make a stink. Like here's the reality for me and I might be on one believes this, I think you hear a lot of people that talk about, he's a malcontinent, everything like that outside of reckless speculation and innuendo about who he's mad at, AJ has not been the malcontent that
we are paying him to be. Now he's been a pain as far as some of the antics and stuff for people that see it. But the feeling that I'm getting in that locker room and with his teammates outside of them having to talk about this situation, that's the worst that has been and it's been pain it like he's way worse than he really is, you know, so that's how I feel about, I feel if AJ is going to be here, that AJ is still going to be AJ, I'm not asked, I don't expect AJ to just do a wholesale change, but I feel like if AJ is going to be here, he's going to say all the right things in the moment. For now, I mean, but that's been AJ in the past. I do wonder if it's changed. If I had to guess, I think AJ and the Eagles have some sort of understanding that they're doing their best to trade him. So if that doesn't come to fruition, I don't think he's going to play nice in OTAs. In fact, I don't think he's going to show up. If we get close to the next time he's supposed to be here and whenever that is probably May, when the veterans come back and in the past Eagles have had maybe one, just one, you know what I mean? The mandatory OTA. I don't think he's going to show up for the, I don't know, I don't know because it was
not, it was not mandatory for, for veteran players, but all season workouts are starting. That's a good one. I don't think he'll be, I don't think he'll be the, I don't know, but see, that's the thing, Joe. It's not a big deal if he hasn't been to any of them before. I agree. But now we're going to find out that's what, that's what I was about to say. If he's been to OTAs, not OTAs, but off season workouts before and he doesn't come, that's a probably a tail tail sign, which is, and right now I, I think it's you as the Eagles still hold the power. They hold the cards. They hold the player. But once, once we get deeper into the off season and they have to make, team start hearing that he's not showing up or he, that I think it flips things back and it's not, it's not great for the Eagles, 215, 592, 94, all right. The Rams, the team that kind of came out of nowhere on Friday, would you be willing to trade into the Rams? I would. He, he came in here like he wouldn't. But then once I floated that 13th overall pick, Doug, listen, man, because you can't, you can't be foolish. Are you saying Kyle's foolish? No, I'm just saying, but that's, you can do that.
No, I'm saying because Kyle said he wants more, he wants, he wants more than that, Kyle's in it. I just think that 13th picker, they're willing to give me that, then I'll take that. I would, I would take it in Harpy and I, and I, and I just in general have no worries about shifting to the Rams. Great. They're the favorite anyway. They'll be the favorite. Again, and I look at AJ as a guy that does not have many great years left. So knock yourself out for a year while we transition over here and by the time the Eagles are ready again in a year or so, I think AJ's fallen off anyway. So I'm not worried about it. And then the Bryce Harper thing, are you concerned? Bryce Harper has, look, can we just be honest? He's looked overmatched in the World Baseball Classic by some major leagueers like last night. Those were all major league guys. He's seen out of the Dominican bullpen in the start of Severino. But some of those guys from Canada, I mean, they're not major leagueers. Like some of the, some of the pitchers we've seen so far that the American team has faced, they're not great players in the big leagues right now. And Bryce hasn't looked great. Yeah. It's a problem. It's been a tough look at the play. I'm on a high alert with the Bryce stuff. I'm positive about what?
About Bryce. Stop doing that. I'm not going to worry about it. So this is head in the sand. Let's see. No, it's not head in the sand. I'm going to be back. It's getting blown away by Severino. I mean, I saw it. I mean, it didn't look great, but I believe, I believe in Bryce. I believe he's going to have a bounce back. Yeah, he better because boy, I tell you, I hear better. No, no, because if he doesn't, you're going to see a side of Bryce Harbor that we'd never see because the questions are going to come, the pressure is going to mount. And this is like when you talk, when I think about a person who's been as highly touted as Bryce has been his whole life, you know, what was that movie where it was a Tom Cruise movie where he was a wrestler and when he lost his first match, and when he lost his first match, he couldn't handle it or something and he just went into a spiral, feel like something like that. Well, it's all the right moves, all the right moves, that's what it was. Why have I asked my HVAC guy I found on Angie.com to change my grandpa's trachea tube? Because I was so amazed by how quickly he replaced our air ducts.
I knew I could trust him to change poppups too, while I was on vacation. Make a quick young man. Ah, see? Poppup trusts you. Uh, I think we should call it doctor. And when he lost his match, he went into a whole spiral.
This is 20th century Douglas talking here. 1983 film. No, but that's what I'm talking about. Release on October 21st, 1983. No, 1902 might have to get in the next year's bracket. I like how y'all just, you know, so chat. So, so prices a guy that talks about planning it was 40s. It's a decline starting now at 33. It's going to be a rough back half of this contract. That's what I'm saying. And it's going to be one of those. He's going to crawl the game to the fans, the front office. It's not going to be good. Well, I know I was going to handle, if this is the case, high is going to handle that verse. But here's the thing though, like, would I be surprised if Bryce just like turned it on and had an elite season? I would not. No, that's what I'm kind of. But it's the way it's looking. Yeah, I'm just looking for positive signs. Yeah. I need him to turn on a Lorenzen pitch on tomorrow night and just hit a five. I can't have him get in mode down by Michael Lorenzen again. I know. And so it's going to be no one's going to pitch tonight for team Italy. It's Italy, Venezuela tonight, and then the winner's going to play the United States.
So it sounds like the Phillies could face either Venezuela or Michael Lorenzen in the final to win the whole thing. The Phillies team USA. I need Bryce to hit. I needed it. I am starting to feel like last year was a more of kind of where we're at rather than just a down here. And that's not a great place to be knowing what kind of which Bryce Harper we have. I think we'll make or break people's feelings on this Phillies team this season. I think that's a good point. Yeah. If he comes out the first weekend and bombs three home runs, we're going to feel like, oh, maybe we got that Bryce back. He goes one for 11. Douglas is the only one that has enough as an op. I'm not going to panic. You won't panic. I won't panic, but it's going to be. I mean, we paint the picture here. It starts with Texas. He said it starts with Texas. It has to start with Texas. Yeah. I'm going to be like. Keep that same energy. So hold on. So we come in here the Monday after the first weekend, Phillies Rangers. They get swept. He goes one for 11. No, it's enough as an op. With five strikeouts, you're not panicking. I ain't going to panic. I will. I will. Who's the next series? He will just tell us it starts with that. It starts with that next week. You know what? I don't even know.
I ain't going to panic, Joe. And panic is not part of our conversation. I'm so locked in on starting with Texas that I don't even know who they play. Yeah. I'm baseball such a funny game where you know the team that you're going to open with because it's opening day. And then like the rest of the schedule, other than like when they play the mats and braves, I just have no idea. Okay. So they're going to play the Phillies open with Texas next week and then Washington comes in. So two. So one half a tomato can, one full tomato can watch it's a full tomato can. Then they go. They go out to Colorado. Another tomato can. Hold on a second. We should get off to a good start here. Texas. Oh, yeah. Colorado. I need your win prediction right now. How long have they been been rebuilding in Colorado about their whole existence 30 years or so? Hold on. Mackenzie Gore is a Texas Ranger now. He is. Are we going to get not we just break out 19 times against Mackenzie Gore again? We'll definitely see that first weekend. We'll probably see DeGrom. We're going to get a marketable. It's called enough is enough. Well, I hope we do. I mean, hope we don't because that means we struck out 19 times. Let's go to David who's up on WIP. Hey, David. Hey, how you doing? Good David. What's up? I just want to say long time listener, first time call it to you guys is called once in
the middle of midday show, but you guys are out is around the new year. Great show guys. Love you. I appreciate you David. What are you thinking today? So I've got an idea for a treat for a trade for AJ. I was thinking you give AJ the 23rd tick and maybe also a third round pick. Package that all sentence to the Rams and get back to vauntay add on the end of 13th. Maybe do something with 13th straight to max cause the auto now. All right. So AJ 23rd and a third and then we get back to vauntay in the 13th. You dogless. You enter you out. That's that's what we talked about earlier. Well, he threw a third in there. He threw a third. Because it was that for me it was the vantay in the first in the first in the 13th pick. I'm sorry. Yeah. The vantay in the 13th. I like you know what, David, if we get the vauntay back and the 13th pick, we have kept we've we've we've kept a good receiver here. Right. We have another good one. We're placing AJ and that 13th pick is a hugely valuable asset. David, I like this idea. All right. All right. And what do you do with the 13th pick, though? Are you?
Do you have a future because I think you say me that you're trading it for max. I mean, you're getting about that anyway. He's going on. He has less time ahead of him than AJ Brown. You're right about that. He brought in another piece to the puzzle. No, I'm not trying to do that. What? What's good, Max? No. We're going to get something. We want to take that 13th pick and we're going to probably add into one of them. Yeah. David, good phone call. Well, we could have. I mean, Max. Chris, this weekend about Max. Carl, we come to play in his future. Something like that. We're all contemplating our future. Well, you think about it. What does that mean? Like he's not going to play much. Well, I saw something. And you know how this was a hot and heavy weekend for NFL reckless speculation. I think I saw a story. Somebody was talking about considering retirement or the next move with the with the Raiders because they thought he was they were trying to figure out what he wanted to do or whatever. So I think I saw something about contemplating retirement or something like that. You mean like down the line or right now? Oh, I think I thought it was right now. So he's screwing them with his trade value. You know what? That's what I'm getting fake news again. I'm proud of you. Probably is. But I thought I saw that.
I thought I saw something like that. Well, I buy it. I mean, you say it. I'll buy it. That's why we do things in the show. He brings it to the table. We buy it. That's great. That's probably the opposite of how we should we should do things here. So he wanted to know what we would do with the 13th pick if we got it back. I would probably go get one of those young receivers. I would probably get a receiver. Because like this is the thing we don't have a receiver. Well, we don't have a receiver room. We do not have a receiver room. We do not have a receiver room. We don't. Money's about to go to the defense. Feels very set up. I think your guys instinct is probably right. That they could get their hands on the second or third best receiver in the whole class. Yeah. And that's huge. I mean, the last time they had a, they drafted a receiver that high was Devonte. And that worked out great. The only other thing I would say is the Caleb Downs, the kid from Ohio State, the safety. I've seen all sorts of ranges where he might get drafted. Some people thought top five. But then other people have said, and I might be too high. I think he is a tremendous player. Doesn't really feel like an area that we spend big resources. But I could have said that about linebacker running back.
Yeah. But well, until recently. Sure. But I don't think Vic Fant, like, do you think Vic really puts that much importance on it? He might not. Doesn't seem like he does. He might not, but it feels like he can make up for it in other areas. He's probably a strong corner group and linebackers and stuff. And the safety is matter less. But is Vic going to be here much longer? No. I just, look, it would be something we don't see the Eagles typically do. Right? Taking a safety that high. I'm just saying that would be the one player. Because I think about the other player. I mean, you could take an offensive lineman. But I don't know if there's a perfect spot for them unless they just play guard for a year. I don't think I'd love the idea of taking a safety in the first. With the first pick? No. Yeah, with our first pick. Yeah. I don't think that guy, unless he's that guy. I mean, a private receiver. Yeah. You know, it would be fun. Just the idea. If we have a pick that high to talk about those players leading into the draft. I mean, that's, I guess the last time we had that was. You would have a great character. Yeah. You have a great choice of who you want to get at that point. Well, and then you can move up a little bit. Yeah. And you're within striking distance to the top 10. Of course. You know how he looks at you.
When how he's close. I know. To the top 10, he gets into the top 10. Of course he does. Let's go to pop-up in Simpsonville. What's up, pop-up? Hey, gentlemen. How are you? What's going on? Good pop-up. What's up? Well, I'm up here, came up here from my grandson's confirmation. I'm not in Simpsonville. I'm actually in Mannheim and East Petersburg. Okay. So my thought is that they're desperately trying to make something happen. And I don't know if it's going to happen. So if they don't move AJ and get what they feel is his value, then he's staying, right? Because they're not going to take less. Probably. Well, I mean, they could trade him for whatever they could get. But that would be, you know, giving up a good player for almost nothing. So you might be right. If they can't get something good, they might just keep them. That's not you Douglas. You Douglas is not going to take less. Well, I'm not taking less. Well, he's asking for too much.
That's that's you. I put him on the store. No, no, he's not. No, he's not. He's a man who's doing a man's job. A man doing a man's job. Okay. But it's, yeah. So when we're talking about a man doing a man's job, let's talk about the Penn State wrestling coach, who's got seven number ones. Seven number ones going to the national tournament. That's a lot of what they destroyed. They destroyed the big 10, right? And they're going to the nationals. Let that man cook. They brought a Saturday. Go for it. This, this upcoming weekend, right? You into this year? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Yeah. Okay. Cool. The number one team in the country. They represent Pennsylvania. Right. They are representing us, Joe. Yeah. All of us. Especially you, Joe Giulio. I said, you look at Dale's haircut. Just like me. Just like yours. The same haircut as Joe Giulio. He's saying that you just get the Joe Giulio. That's what he, I saw that quote. I'm not sure if anyone else saw that.
I think I read this. Right. So. And as far as Bryce Harper goes. I think he's, you know. He's struggling right now. But does he typically start. Blow and pick it up as the season goes on? Yeah. That's a good question. Pop, pop. I mean, he's played so long now. There's been so many seasons that I think it all kind of evens out. I, you know, I think that's a fair question. Like, what does he typically do in in spring training in April compared to now, right? Yeah. I think it's fair to ask that question. Yeah. I mean, it is. But I don't think he has a luxury to start slow in this, this situation because of what was said about him. You know, and especially when you talk about the blood, the blood circulation and the highest protein powder and stuff like that. The same pattern has nothing to do with any of this in this conversation. It kind of does. And, you know, stuff like that. You don't, you don't have the luxury of having the benefit of the doubt right now. Because of what Dave Nebraska said about him and the fact that, you know, right now, you hit my partner and everybody's talking about his, his bat looks a little slow.
What does? Yeah. You know, when the season starts, man, you got to, you got to hit the ground run. You got to do something in that first game. You got to do something. You got those young, you got those young players that are hitting good in that, in that, that USA, or that USA team. Yeah. World baseball classic. Mm hmm. Rice Harper is lucky. Did he got a double yet in the last game? I agree. I mean, the bat, Bob, Bob, good phone call. The bat has looked slow the entire time. Just to answer his question there. Actually, if you look throughout his career, and again, it evens out. There's probably years like this. Probably years is not. But this is over the course of a full long career of Bryce Harper. His best month of the season, Hugh, by OPS, is March, April. He usually gets off to a good start. That is good. Okay. So, I mean, it's not like it's a huge difference. He's, he's 961 in April, March. He's 907 in May. He's, he's been 943 in August. He's at, his worst month is typically July. But again, this is, it's 12 years of a sample. So I'm sure he's had good, April's, good May's, good June's, bad June's.
I mean, it's, he's played so long. It's, it's kind of like it all evens out. But just to go to the pop-ups question there, he typically actually starts hot. That is the way his seasons usually go over the course of his long career now. So if we're using that while he does his start fast, numbers don't really back that up. He usually does start pretty fast. Get it going, dude. Gotta get it going. Yeah, I sense you, you are, you're hovering over the panic button. You just don't want to hit it. No, I'm not hovering. I'm, I'm pulling for him because he's obviously, you know, he, he's being passive aggressive in this situation when he was talking about whether or not he's a leader or not. Yeah. I just want him not to have to answer those questions because they're coming. Hey, Bryce, you didn't hit nothing or you didn't, you're not doing this. You think you're falling off a little bit? You know, because that's what the dog and reporter Dave Uram. You think you're ready to do that? Oh, yeah. Well, I think Uram is going to frame it in a way where it's going to be, it's going to be nicely said. So I'm going to feel like, hey Bryce, what the hell? Yeah, I'm going to feel like that now. I'm glad you're rooting for him, though. I am.
I'm really good to know. I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for him. I'm rooting for you, dude. I'm rooting for you. Title of this podcast episode. You did a sparring message. He's Douglas. I'm rooting for Bryce. You can do it. You got this, bro. Yeah. You got this, bro. Sure, he's very inspired. Yeah, he's very, he should be. I've never felt, I'll root for everybody. I've never felt, I've never felt worse about Bryce's season than here. and then here you say, I'm rooting for him. Hey, right, I hope you do, I hope you do well. That tells me you're a terrified he's cooked and you don't wanna say a thing, I don't know. You know what, it's out what I was just saying when you talk about getting yourself to bed and you talk about you the best shape of your career, you're using me, you're done. I mean, he hasn't said that, but it's not, you know, when we started talking about speculating, knocking him down in order and stuff like that, yeah. It's a tough spot. Well, I mean, how can he leave him second in the USA order? There's like six guys, it doesn't matter. And then when you talk about being in a position where you gotta win is I said this last week, when you had that debacle about not knowing the rules,
you gotta sprint through this thing. The Rose is on a slippery slope here. He can't screw around, 2-1-5, 5-9-2, 94-9-4. All right, your phone call's coming up. It is a big sports week here, really for all of us. March badness, the bracket accused will give you an update on that coming up at 130. We're gonna start the matchups on Thursday for the bracket of Hugh Douglas's. It's not been easy to see this thing. There's so many hues, fillies a week away, but maybe the biggest of them all, Joe Verschak, some updates from this morning on the rules. How about blue jeans on the morning show? Take it to blue jeans. Take it in the mic this morning with those guys. Plus your phone calls on AJ Brown, would you be willing to send him to the Rams? Or are you just like, no, I can't send him to an NFC team. Where do you come down? You could serve Bryce Harper's performance in the World Baseball Classic. I'd be willing to send AJ to whoever gives the best off for Rams or not. Just, if it's the Rams, he's a Rams. I don't care. And Bryce Harper's performance in the World Baseball Classic, I have concern about Bryce as we head towards the regular season. It's the midday show on sports radio 94 WIP.
