Welcome back to IT live presented by Inside Texas and our wonderful sponsor Academy sports and outdoors Before we get into it talking a little bit about what Ian Boyd wrote about how Texas can finally get over the hump and beat one of those three elusive team I guess only two of them are elusive now Make sure you're going over to inside Texas calm and just checking out all the stuff we got going on I mean Justin Ian and I are all writing some great stuff talking about the lead up to this game talking about the long horns in general So make sure he's over there and checking out IT right now guys Justin Ian we're here Chris is already in the chat ahead of us talking about 21 years ago Texas Bito House in Columbus, but Ian you wrote today about how the just kind of like the three primary factors of what Texas can do to go ahead and beat Ohio State and we'll get that article up in us in a second But just in general, what are you what are you thinking about what are you talking about as we're just two days away from this game? Um, to me this is a game that's Prove it for Sark on offense

It maybe Ohio State comes out and blisters the Texas defense. I think some people are concerned that that could happen I'm not particularly concerned that that will happen um I think that this is going to be the story of this game is Concert make it happen on offense with arch or not Yeah, it's not the final word on it because they could honestly they could nobody wants to hear this They could wet the bed on Saturday Put it together in the rest of the season make the playoffs win the championship avenge the lost Ohio State in the playoffs or not or just not even face them If they win the national championship this year, it doesn't really matter what happens in this game But for a lot of people that's going to be hard to believe If they can't finally get over the hump and at least win this game if not perform well offensively

It's going to be a lot of chatter And a lot of questions and a lot of negativity on the program And you'll you wonder if psychologically if the program will be able to Rebound in the way they need to this season if they don't play well in this game Yeah, and you sort of outlined that right at the front of your article talking about There's like three measuring stick teams for Texas and you can maybe add OU and A&M But a Texas has gotten past those guys with relatively ease most these years But it was Nick Sabin's Alabama immediately and Texas did get their win there But then Kirby smart storage up 0 and 3 Ohio State under Ryan Day 0 and 2 Just that feels like it's been the main separator for the last two years It really of why Texas can't get over the hump would you agree? You're a good person Yes You put it well So I'm not saying much yes, I would agree I don't know if we're past that or that if we needed to If we need to know Sometimes man, I've had I've had them before for an entire day

Where the next day next two days your chest is so sore and painful I was at a press conference Which are all these strong where I had to hiccups for like five hours Like for the drive there and the drive out so I won't be saying much You know the trick is Justin Yeah Don't Hold your breath I did that hold your breath swallow air drink Drink water right side up You know Sleep with cold socks and need a steak before bed. I've done all that Sorry holding holding breath always works for me Well, we have holding your breath only works if you can mentally like Think yourself out of it We've got our own analyst and here's saying We have a good chance with school more points than they do which is just ruining analysis that really you can't replace that Justin But uh, yeah, can we talk about the measuring stick thing? Yeah, of course

Oklahoma are always annual measuring sticks but obviously on a national scale Uh, Georgia and Ohio State are like Almost more peer programs to Texas than is a and m or Oklahoma Because they're level of resources and investment they have and their level of sustained success And then also the fact that both teams just happened have been in the way for Texas Over and over again And they've not been able to get past it Early on suck was clearly like hey, what we're gunning for is savings albama. That's the standard And he would like go out of his way to try to win recruiting battles with albama red Justin Take their players in the portal and and it would get players from albama and the portal all the time And it was like we are coming for albama we're gunning for you And they almost beat him the first time in Austin And then they Go get to him and test. I know with the the the

Stack is too safe to safety deal And the entry to Quinn and the injury to Hudson card Like they were really all in on winning that game and they almost pulled it off um They but the thing is people don't even remember that That stark really aimed for albama and then he actually succeeded people don't remember that because Sarkis shown a similar Focus on beating Georgia and Ohio State And has not yet done so so people don't have faith Yeah, that's very well said um I think the point that we we need to dive into that you mentioned here is The the defense hasn't been the problem for Texas these past two games. We know how state has really only scored 14 neutral points in both of these games right? I mean you had Travian Henderson was an offensive touchdown But that was a kind of fluke one play 75 yards raise the past ending and then the 28th points came from a jacksaurous trip sack And then Ohio State last year just 14 on the board there

So with Pete quick housey Texas is not quite solved Ohio State But all all Sarcusians had to do on the offensive side is get you to 21 or maybe up to 28 in the first game But they haven't been able to do that. It's all it's all been map at Trisha Especially last year with these matchups. So let's talk about it And I mean though how state defense what has been the reason that it's been so hard for Sark to overcome what they've got I mean They're really good First it was Patricia was like there was when they hired Matt Patricia the pencil You know Pinsle on the ear all the time the right on laminate boards that you can't write on with pencil Um when they hired him there was like a million different Ways that could have gone and nobody was totally sure like a bunch of people were clowning on it like this guy sucked his lion's head coach He's nothing without bellicic Doesn't know what he's doing he's in over his head. It's all just uh

Connections and he's in the right club and that's why he keeps getting opportunities And then there are other people they were like no he's a football genius and I know it hasn't worked out Um Can't I don't it's hard to imagine how he could have ended up knowing what we know now It's hard to imagine how he could have been a better fit for Ohio State Because what he did I'm sorry just need you want to you want to try to get it out great point Yeah They couldn't have not based on the first year at least Um their their team is always Since randay took over Though Ohio State defense has gone through a few different coordinators that have had a few different Uh kind of base philosophies But it's all usually basically been We're gonna have awesome athletes playing man coverage In the back end and up front we're gonna have a whole bunch of huge massive freaks

And we're gonna send them in groups of five in the past rush. So we're gonna blitz an extra guy a lot And so you're gonna have to beat man coverage under pressure from NFL athletes And that's been the name of the game from them for a while and usually it overwhelms uh Like Nearly all the big 10 and nearly all of college football Um patricia has maintained that same philosophy He actually made it even a little sharper with some of the schemes that he's introduced Well, they'll play like five guys on the line of scrimmage In a sort of like a 46 nickel Um, so that's been effective, but then he's upgraded their coverage So where they're no longer just playing man coverage on every snap they have a little more subtlety and nuance and they'll play like uh They don't do a lot of different things, but they'll play like zone match cover three with some NFL

Rules and principles I remember last year they had a particular like fire zone blitz against Texas where they Traded off the deep over route that sarcus used to getting wide open against everybody They like traded it between two players in a really sophisticated way that kept it from breaking open And I was like oh good lord. What was that that's not a normal call to think um So yeah, he's maintained like the core of their defensive approach and the main philosophy of it But he's made it just a little bit more sophisticated on the front and the back ends when that's made it all the more potent But I do think the question rises a lot of people have pointed out in the chat what you pointed out here is I mean, how is it different when you don't have three of the best players in an NFL draft cycle three of the best Combine testers ever the arguably the smart of safety we've seen in years best linebacker duo Maybe seen in the 21st century. I mean how how much of this obviously Patricia's got his scheme down to a tea and you mentioned that the trade off like that

That's not athleticism that that makes that work, but how much changes when you don't have a two top seven picks and probably the best safety in the sport Uh some Miss Tom Herman put it They got uh I think they're a little less freakish at linebacker Yeah, they got that Well, they got that Wisconsin kid Aliegrove He was like 64250 Christian Aliegrove Yeah, this isn't even they got a name it sounds like an allergy medicine that me and Justin would both Take this morning if we could yes, um and Uh He's not Arvel Reese or sunny styles But he's he is good and he might be an NFL guy he looks like a Ohio State farmbacker actually He does he looks like also like the dudes that Wisconsin had with Dave or and every year It's like just big versatile box guys that could play a couple different linebacker alignments

Uh, so they still have him They have a couple young freaks that are up and coming Uh, they they have uh He nod at Jackson. It's probably the biggest concern for Texas on Saturday night They have bowacanson they so they have like they still have The cheers the trick is they have an old school guy in Peyton Pierce as well Who was a wrestler in high school Texas loved him wind up going to Ohio State He's gonna be in the rotation as well. They've got some Ohio State Level guys. They're just not the freak athletes. They had last two years So they're not the freak pass rushers where it's like multiple 250 pound guys you're run a four three Right, but they do have multiple 250 pound guys that run a four six And so that still may be overwhelming for just about everybody up to and including Texas

Yeah, you know, and like do they really need to be four three for it to be effective or kind of bunch of Pretty freaky guys still Cosy big problems. It's probably gonna be some of both I think The way I've been trying to think of and talk about it. It's still very Ohio State defense I mean, it's just littered with a two deep of players that you expect to see when you face Ohio State and that I think Jaylen McLean someone's been a little underrated as their as their deep half safety who Let's a lot of this work from last year when killed down so that 46 spot, but You do have to acknowledge that even though we still the played on our radars as much heading into last year and even the Stiles is maybe a late first round pick not a top 10 pick. I mean these guys are a different caliber in 2025 It's compared to 2026 and I think that's where there's a little bit of Texas advantage and I just dropped something on Texas says like I'm kind of selling the idea that Ohio States the more talented team this year Like I think if we're going pure and a fell draft talent enough roster talent Texas has the edge and so it's just kind of about putting that all together and making this and do a win for the long horns

How do you think for the other thing for the other thing for Ohio State there is that they do have They're kind of like Texas last year where they do have another wave of Freak athletes that are going to be NFL draft picks Might be one year too young, but they're yeah like Devon Sanchez is Starting to get there. He's a sophomore. He may be pretty much realized But he's still only a sophomore Jay Timmans the nickel is a freak. He's a freshman They had like a few different linebackers that got in the game That are young that are going to be freaks They have an edge that I can't remember the name of that's a freshman That really popped They also have you know legend Bay on offense that Justin was trying to So you know, maybe that was Connor Connor was trying to tell me about him the other day He's gonna play he's something different than what they've got elsewhere Yeah, so they do have it's like Last year they have these guys that are like you can see that there's NFL

There's another wave of NFL talents, but a lot of it is is not aged It's not been aged the way it needs to for the for the flavors to come out Well before we dive into how Texas and Sart can take over and and really make this their game on offense It's here from our sponsor Academy or it's now Taurus I Turn every day spending into more fun earn unlimited to present in rewards when you spend outside Academy my Academy rewards master card the official card of fun I really appreciate our chat right now. We got three hundred seven four pairs of eyeballs and a lot of great great questions Great chat is we're gonna get to a lot of these as we go through this article, but I do want to get into Specifically these three things pace multiplicity and arch as to why Texas can really take advantage of this game and finally get past that 14 point into the 20s hope leave and farther than that for Seves or Keesion, but let's start with pace in what does that actually mean in a game like this

tempo fast Tempo is a big Advantage in football when you do it well, but it's especially a big advantage early in the year And it's an extra big advantage against big 10 teams because There's so many things to get into here A lot of big 10 teams Do not rotate on the defensive line the way that you do in like the big 12 for the SEC Because I don't have to Because when it's colder those guys don't wear down the same way everything slows down when you play in cold weather games And the big guys like the big guys get stronger And the skill guys start to shy away You know they they're running their Lungs are burning they're freezing cold. They're getting driven into the cold hard ground And they're like this sucks. I hate football

And the big guys are like this is awesome. This is this is all I ever wanted right And then in the heat it's the exact opposite like obviously heat can wear on small guys Because it's bad on everyone, but it really kills the big guys Um, and once the big guys gas out And a football game and the heat they're pretty much done That's something that must-champ made a big point of the last time he came to Texas As he was like he figured out like I have to protect my big defensive tackles Because if they if they gas out and they lose their legs They don't come back. I can't sit them on the bench and then bring them back in and they're fine They're just done So I have to keep them from getting to that point And so I'll have to stay as more depth obviously the most big 10 teams they have Enough defensive tackles to rotate and stay a little fresher But they're big guys are not used to it Um, and they're I don't think they're used to rotating in the way that I don't know if they like the coaches

Are they used to substituting and and mitigating against the heat? I don't know. That's a big test for them and we'll see So that's a potentially big advantage that you want to leverage as much as you can And the way you do that is with tempo And specifically you can get in a big trouble with tempo because if you just go fast and then you go three and out It's gonna have the opposite effect You're just gonna be on defense the whole game And you're gonna get you're gonna get a super guest and your team is gonna die What you have to do is you go out there Once you get that first first down That's when you hit the gas and that's when you start getting to the line and getting play calls in and going fast Um, and that's when you really wear out a team because you get that first first down And then the other team is like oh shoot now. We're gonna have to be on the field for a minute Let's try to get some subs in oh wait. We can't Then their players are confused are going back and forth. You're making them line back up and up again at tempo and you can yeah

You can start to get that lactic acid build up that you need to take them down I think your title also holds really true here How Texas finally wins against the Ohio State in DKR. I mean this is a pretty Texas home field advantage Labeled section right here where you're getting that hundred degree heat you're getting the Just it was it was hot in Columbus last year. It's it was not gonna be anywhere close to what's gonna be come Saturday and and that's That's the big difference. I think it's in home field advantage I mean 100,000 strong at DKR versus the shoe is a huge change for the long ones But yeah, you make a good point about how how the rotation to do change those D lineman You kind of want to get the knockout punches in early. I do wonder Ian like we've talked so much about 11 versus 12 Personnel coming to this is it better to be in 11 versus 12 after you're getting that first down Like is there one that you'd rather be in if you're not gonna be subbing to get that tempo going or is it just kind of Just dependent on what sarke wants to do I can be either

You don't want to sub in and out because then yeah, then they then they get to the officials will stop you until they have a chance to serve So you want to be in one or the other I think start to do it from both because he's circus so I want to do I I'm always like play more 11 in the big games I don't like 12 personnel as much in the big games except situationally Um because I just think these good teams are a little harder to exploit and fool with 12 personnel than other teams So I would do it mostly from 11 But start is very multiple from 12 and I'm sure he's gonna have a lot of stuff from 12 that will be helpful like he it's probable that he'll play a fair amount of it Because he knows he can get Ohio State to play with three linebackers And then he can try to like move the tight ends all over the place to create weird Uh matchups and advantages and see if he can hunt

um The you know Colt cam Coleman on germane math hues or Uh rest of nickel whatever they there's so many things he can do so the trick is When you hit the gas you can't sub so you got to be ready to be committed with whatever you have on the field Yep for sure um and you mentioned a little bit in there but let's talk about multiplicity What what is that superpower for Sarah kidding into this game? Um There's a lot here he's When he scripts that opening opponent this is a big reason we felt confident going into Ohio State last year Is where like Sarah has been scripting stuff for Manning all summer And we'd seen that what that looked like with Quinn against Alabama in 23 and Michigan in 24 Alabama in 2022 Um each of those three years Yeah each of those three years Texas had a lot for that first opponent

Yeah, and they came out and they looked clean and they had brand new stuff And they would use tempo at times to maximize their advantages and just throw like the kitchen sink at people right um and so That last year that didn't work So people forget but like that's a big advantage and it's probably gonna return Now that stark has had a much better offseason He has a lot more weapons Everyone in the offensive roster is a lot older than they were last year Uh their older their better and his quarterback is a returning starter Who he now knows much better after a full season together and then an extra offseason So I think we're gonna get to like super multiple uh Opening big game stark script that's really tough And then there's another there's another subtle sort of subtle advantage here And that last year it was like they we weren't entirely sure what map Patricia was even gonna do

Yeah, so Calibrating the ideal game plan to like attack all of its tendencies and rules and stuff that sarkelex to do was hard because we weren't totally sure But they were This year like Patricia might still have some new stuff for him but A lot of the fundamentals and the rules and the stuff that he's going for we now have a whole years worth of film on it at a high-estate You don't think he's gonna be more creative with a lesser experienced group now Patricia yeah I mean he might be limited in how much he can do that because he's got All these transfers and underclassmen Right, I mean he might but even if even if he is at least now you know what his like basic rules are And like the coverages that he gets Like last year they were kind of flying blind a little bit this year they're flying Just sark's level of certainty

And preparedness in terms of who he's playing And his own team are both like two x what they were in this game last year Yeah, and it feels like even if it is kind of an even slate between the two like you've got some new I've got playing new That that should favor the offense of even just slightly but especially when you're the one calling the plays You're the one dialing up the shots you know when the big place trying to be found That's where I think sarkets that's that slight advantage that kind of becomes twofold when those plays were Signed up for cam colman instead of you know Parker living stint in with Hollywood's mother and so CJ backster Yeah Let's talk about archmaning because that was your third point arch Um What what can he do differently in this game? I mean there's plenty he can do differently, but what is it about ours that that really flips The 2026 version of arch Excuse me that flips the tides of why this could be a Texas victory Just until everybody what does exist in the sark playbook with archmaning that we might see more of this week than another week

Design run Designed run for the quarterback That's a big one I would also add uh scramble Yeah, the scramble is a really it's when you when you add the scramble to tempo It it it just becomes like a it's it's often the back breaking element of tempo So in the defense like They're running they're getting set they're getting their call in everybody's on the same page They get their communication right you cover everything the offense is doing and then the quarterback slips out and picks up a first down and you got to do it and you're like oh, we got to do this three more times now That that really wears teams out and this is a game where uh Uh Arch is just gonna let it rip i think on the ground and run as much as he wants to So i don't know about as much as he wants to i think it's going to be as much as it takes as much as it takes

That's just a better way to put it so i between that he um i think it's possible that he could have like uh A bunch of uh big scramble that make a difference moving the chains and then i think it's likely impossible that he'll have some uh Designed runs hopefully that you get the ball across the goal line and then i'm I think that's where their goal line element comes into play here or like a fourth and one or something Like if they get fourth and one early in the game QB design run it's coming for sure Yeah great great stuffy and uh i think that this really sums up well Why there's confidence again i mean we were confident last year But there are some things that we couldn't fully predict which was the Patricia defense and i mean i think in particular Our valris was someone who i knew was gonna be good for them was gonna start for them But i wasn't quite ready for the level impact he had i i think one of the the big takeaways from this if you degree like

There's just a little bit more known for the texas offense and that also includes what your talent is and your talent is a step ahead It's yeah and it's night and day i mean The difference between like parkour livingston and can't call in The difference between last year's Ryan Wingo and this year's Ryan Wingo The difference between emit mostly in the slot versus oh Oh my god, who did they play is who did they play as the two tight ends and oh Jordan Washington and uh that jack andries yeah someone like that i mean Shannon would play too Two non blockers Yeah, it's it's night it's night and day. Oh, and then running back Would you say the offense for Ohio state is Consider really big better than last year too Um Center will i wouldn't agree with but i didn't want to talk about it. It doesn't look like it It doesn't look like it just yet They sure don't feel like they do ball us. They were very limited

There was a governor on that offense last year They only went vertical what twice in the entire game Like there was a governor there for good reason. I'm just wondering how much they opened that part of it I was saying with another year Jeremiah's last year in Columbus and some of those other young guys It's uh it's it's a mixed bag Because the This their skill and the passing game looks like it's Potentially one of the best ones we've seen in a while. Yes. That's my point Like we didn't see last year because they didn't need to use it They're gonna need it this year, but here's here's the catch though is that uh The run game was really weak against ball state Yeah, and so you worry about if the defense sells out to stop the pass If they can punish that the way they want to in the run game And then they played a few different configurations on the line trying to get Good play at tackle

They're basically like rotating Austin Cereveld to like does he need to be the left tackle does he need to be the right tackle can we play McGuard and I don't know if they are going to be able to protect well enough to maximize All the returning skill they have with saying and McQuinn and Smith who can especially Especially in week two against a team like Texas Later in the year they may be like just good enough on the offensive line where they just start shredding people with the passing game But in week two it's it's gonna be tough One concern I have for their offense is Texas the last two times has really had to deal with and they didn't so much last year But in theory they had to deal with a third pass catcher in max claire and I think we thought maybe more Brandon in this but this year I mean Smith is obviously Smith it makes you and looks really good He might just be there carnell take two point out but he's better than date I mean that's a top five pick he or just excuse me yeah a top five pick and an innit

enormously terrible Horrible future draft Carnell take goes in the second round of any other draft continue Either way um, I just don't I mean it was a book back in 24 and they even had trade gun henderson at it from the back field It claire was a big part of it last year as they went deeper into the season and they don't only target their tight ends that much They don't these guys don't seem to profiles big pass catchers Jackson hasn't shown much out of the back field in the passing game I'm not big on Brandon and innocent and I just don't know how much Chris Henry is gonna be involved when you just want to keep me queue and Smith on the outside Yeah, I mean they have Yeah He's not playing he'll play you've got to watch him We can do we can do a lot of this good phone at some point And the people in the chat that don't know who Devin McEun is they don't know what he did in track in high school. They don't know what he did Uh at UTSA I really really hope saturday is not a breakout game for him

I don't want Texas fans to learn about a kid that really wanted to go to Texas right down the road that didn't really get a chance It's gonna come back to Austin and haunt you. I really don't want that to happen There's one McEun after practice reports in the last few weeks McEun is the one dude. You know it reminds me of Anthony Gonzalez McEun can be Anthony Gonzalez and what happens is Texas doesn't have a corner Didn't have that good third corner Whenever that guy came out on the field and that was like that that was the mismatch that fraudled UT in 2006 I don't want McEun to be Anthony Gonzalez The the graveyard of past Texas football seasons is haunted by a million ghosts That were in-state players that Texas passed on that made them pay from another school It's just how it goes on that happy note we're gonna hear from our spots for lift kitchen and bath Are you ready to love your kitchen and bathroom again?

We mentioned a little bit Ian in there with archmaning but It starts play calling inside the red zone. I just left a lot to decide What needs to change in 2026 to have Texas the promise of been Texas getting there. It's been finishing these drives Has it been a trotious sort of they just snub in good. I don't know not good is probably the I think people people think of the The sweep against Ohio State in the semi-final um That was a disaster But I didn't like that play call for sure It kind of broke down because freshman Ryan Wingo didn't block Caleb Downes because he got confused And they knew and Ohio State knew it was coming Yeah, but I mean if you block downs on that play that that they might have scored um The next two plays looked awful But Golden was injured and nobody could get open and

Cameron Williams was injured and he couldn't block Was that big white in they had that was like so yeah, so yeah, so Otherwise, I mean they've definitely been weak in the red zone, but I don't know if it's Play calling or if it's just like the nature of The limitations of the team I'm in the jade blue angle routes were money, but that's kind of it I mean they were one over two over three last year with the the cubic sneak and then the Target to Livingston in the end zone right I thought that he had Wingo for a touchdown every time on that play, but It's definitely something that they they got to take a step up and if they want to win this game What was the question again? It wasn't a question. It was just let's face it. It was a Trojus But I did just want to talk about They need to be good there. They need to be good in their red zone for sure They're not going to win this game if they have another I'm getting a t-shirt of that made

From the last nine months gotta be better in the red zone I'm just going to wear it on Thursday mornings You guys see the red area the red area Talk about the truth fresh Just doesn't want to wear that shirt anymore Talk about their true freshman nickel Ian because I know a lot of people have had a lot of questions about him It seems like quite the athlete, but kind of someone out of Texas had Grayson little to their last year, but maybe something to look towards for a game like this Yeah, the deep dive Paul talks about trying to get Coleman on him Or just like a big guy test him test him with Big Awesome players and see like are you really up for this at this level and test him with uh mental stress Like when sark 1 and tescalusa in 2023 He went after Caleb downed some few times And it wasn't because Caleb Downs wasn't one of the best athletes on the whole field

It was just because he was a freshman trying to Figure stuff out live in his second game ever as a coach football player So I yes, I think that's an area of an exposure for sure for them Uh, I would like to see sark try to get after the linebackers though Underneath and drop back I think that's Just always a good idea in a game like this um We'll see Yeah, I think a lot of our chatter has been kind of saying that the secondary seems a little gettable I mean this is what we said at the start This is still a no-hi state defense like this is the standard that they play to and they have the talent there But your germane math used to have his struggles last year he did have the pick against archmaning But uh some people pointed out like that was a play where he got beat by Ryan Wingo managed made a pretty bad throw and I believe he was the one who was at the other end of the the parker Lewinson touchdown And then you just got new players a lot there or a little Terry Moore pretty good ACC transfers

But just new guys in the system. I think this is one where Texas is probably gonna have their most successful downfield passing game of this Ohio state Georgia losing era I don't know I would like to get them intermediate and underneath I think that's I think getting him deep is a little tricky because some of their NFL stuff they have But I think they're gettable, but I don't know if Over the top is gonna be the way to do it unless you know if Kim Coleman just mosses people then The trick is going to be I think we found the recipe the trick is going to be Who is gonna make arch eat their eatest stuff in the tunnel because once arch gets hit Like that's when the clock starts that's when like he's in game mode So whoever did that was was brilliant because it instantly put him into game mode He that's why he was so sharp from from the from the first snap guys

Because that dude ate it someone popped him and it's called the concrete and it got him and so In a joking manner. I do wonder how clear of a path he's going to have running out of that tunnel For the next for his career the rest of his career I feel like the smoke won't be as much on his side because for a flash I thought there goes the entire season Well, just I feel bad because the silver spur was pretty clearly trying to avoid him from getting tripped He tripped on like a camera or something and the guy was trying to push him out of the way And now that poor dude's just getting Flamed online because I think he's trying to injure cubie one Yeah, and no one's trying to injure cubie one no one in Austin But I do like I hate obviously, but I mean once once he gets popped That's when that thing starts that's when he not gets into it and so So I was going to have to lay into him a few minutes before the game once they do that

I think it's gonna be a lot of fun We got two super chats. Thank you. Yes. So much drape from be able to years in a second Utah horn Um, are we feeling any better about this game seems like O line is a weakness in their CB So I shape you can be had with their own experience their own line. Sorry not Texas is O line Um any thoughts on this Ian The CB safety thing might be a little overstated. We'll see Uh for sure on their their own line is if you watch their own line versus ball state You will feel you will feel Uh, pretty decent about this game You know, it's gonna be cautious with that People are doing this with Michigan Oklahoma people are like well Michigan sucks this year Oklahoma's gonna go in there and run him out of the building Week one to week two Is not the same thing. I just wonder what's playing for his life. He ends right now. No, Ian ends right But I do think there is one One note Bryce underwood is their quarterback

So I don't I don't know if he's playing for his life. They got a legacy kid right behind him It's possible that he is just bad. It's possible he's was bad and he's yes Ian Yes, but more likely it's the more likely take from this and I love the kid for one reason because Joe cook Wanted this inside joke to work for years so bad about Bryce underwood's recruitment and how he would like pop into places And so anytime Texas we would hear about a mystery recruit or somebody coming in Joe would He would go right to it could be Bryce underwood and That was just such a funny little joke that was Joe's thing and it was such a good thing So now every time I watch Bryce I think about Joe in that recruitment You know flipping from LSU. What did he make seven eight million dollars? Million dollars then you pay for noise money that debt

To a brand new coach who's not really into paying Guys at that. Why don't you guys like that? What I thought Kyle woulding him was the best higher possible But that thing's not gonna get off the ground until they fix some spots and it's gonna start a quarterback Someone pointed out online but the best thing that could have happened LSU over these past two years was Bryce underwood flipping a Michigan because you Be stuck with Brian Kelly and extra year you'd stuck along the wood now you've got Levitt Kippen might have been at Florida at this point. I mean good call Drave from VA great question here with coach most champ scheme with the D-line stun shifts etc Doesn't that make his vulnerable versus the OSU running game kind of like how Texas runs against OUNM? No Boom does not do that kind of stuff Where they're like moving after the snap a lot? he'll do I don't even know he'll probably do the kind of stuff Georgia did where they would shift just before the snap

And they would do that to confuse all of your rules Because like when you're in offensive line you go to the line and you're communicating like we're in a combo here We're gonna do this here. We're gonna do this here and then if they move right before the snap Then all of your rules about who's blocking you have to change at the last second And that's that's very different Then shifting and slanting after the snap Is that can slow that still obviously causes big problems But when you try to move on the D-line after the snap you can get caught in really bad ways and and must-champ is he's not um um Once they line up they're playing some pretty like really stable steady techniques Well, I think there's a lot of trust in the D-line too like you just you feel good about throwing heirukano and Eingafrata in an early down run Feel good about having Colin Simmons rushing a pastor on a third down Doesn't need to be overly intricate and we'll see if that that Mike linebacker look for Colin comes a thing but

um Yeah, thanks for the super chat tray I started this one. That was a pretty funny kind of path The part we were talking about arch but hope he rides beam out of the field and pretzels impact that was that back pedals and falls um Try to do as any other star ones that are really less and crazy stuff at 10 o'clock in the morning, buddy Facility Jerry kind of thing Facility Jerry haha Put some money on you. Yeah, but but you forgot you forgot something you forgot something father stevia coward Put money on Michigan game boy you coward I don't I don't put money on games Hey, and either would I went when you're dealing with two teams like Michigan and Oklahoma Like come on man just because Michigan's down you're gonna force me to back John Mateer are you out of your flip in mind? I also

The other thing that like underwad looks so bad That everybody's forgetting that Fassusi couldn't use his arm last week And Oklahoma is rushing back two different linemen with knee injuries to play in this game Is phoedric in the play center? No Fassusi's probably out he might be out for a while man, I know that Yeah, he it looks I mean it looked it looked bad Justin he like hurt his shoulder in camp And then he came back and he played in that first game and it got re aggravated And he was he was playing out there with his right arm down and trying to do everything with his left hand and then they just pulled him That's that that's Michael. He's a great kid man. I hate that for him So we don't know Oklahoma man dude their line was suspect before that Yeah, they were pretty bad He seemed like the one that you weren't concerned about yeah exactly exactly

They were low-key bad after that against You tap It wasn't obvious it was just you tap. It's just you tap but they you man you watch some of those guys and it's like boy They man mission Michigan still has dudes on defense. That's it. That's what it's gonna say I think Ian's theories right like the week one to week two Don't overthink it. It can vastly change within seven days. I think you're out about that But Michigan coming in with all of that you're not supposed you are supposed to win you you know trust me in those 18 to 22 year olds It's in their head that they they're some of those guys are thinking about that. They're gonna come out No one hey no one hands in the fact that oh you is gonna be a little is down on along the offensive line Oklahoma's got a lot of momentum buddy. They got a lot of good will after that win Michigan Absolutely cut that Tell me you want a football game and you drop ten spots out of the AP top 25

Just for the psychology of the players and particularly like man I need this this next win to show that this was I mean it was a fluke but that this wasn't a flu You know the more I've seen of this and this has come from someone who grew up in Michigan fan But the more I've seen of of videos of the one second extra second thing In the stadium there is a second on the clock Which is unfortunate that it was so wrong on the on the Broadcast because I so disagree with the idea that it says zero on the broadcast and that it can put a second back on but They messed that up there there was a second from these these fan can videos that we have I wondered if that angle existed because people have been talking to everybody's talking about the secret clock And I'm like it's not a secret clock. It's just the one of the stadium, right and it's the The clock at a second when it touched the uh it's very easy for the stadium It's very easy for the stadium clock and the broadcast clock to get off it It only has to get off by a little bit. It doesn't even have enough by a full second For that to happen

But it boy It was just it was the in today's era where everything literally everything is a conspiracy theory. Yes That was the easiest conspiracy theory ever ever Yeah, I've been in Michigan Homer. Oh, that's where my I've got three generations of Michigan four generations of Michigan fans in my family But ended up as a longhorn here we are but um I'm trying to remember what the exact question was that someone posted the chat But there was a there was a good one. Oh, I remember what it was And we've been talking about all these teams top 10 teams really in Texas Ohio State Oklahoma I go down the Oregon in particular. I think it stood out with this Feel like every single big-time team were going hey, they got some questions from the O line after one week no matter who they played I really started to show what it's like in college football to try to build it off and some on an IL air and feels like only Georgia's a team that can say like yeah, man. We just got these freshmen that are coming in doesn't really matter who's playing. They're all gonna dominate

Yeah, they also just run which always helps yeah, that too Notre Dame's also good with that You know what though, I mean we'll see I should almost not even say this until after Saturday but Texas looked Way better in past protection against Who did we just destroy Texas state the bobcats of Southwest Texas state? He's so locked in on how state he doesn't even know who Texas just played Uh, yeah, they um, Miami is they look Texas looks like they made past protection and major priority this offseason And they're like we're never gonna embarrass ourselves like that again. You should think We're gonna let arch get popped like that so badly again. We're gonna guess this fixed It what was funny is Ciani the run blocker see more the run blocker No, they're past blockers They're so really good past blockers

So course aren't you? What he's gonna do I'm gonna jump this ball Yeah, they're gonna throw that Our arch is probably gonna throw it 40 times Saturday. Yes, and he's gonna make multiple reads In multiple plays I swear most quarter Mexico one to four that guy goes one two three four And let's go back through him four three two one And I get it it was Texas state. They're not gonna have a lot of pressure on me 10 30. Yeah, but my goodness, man I'm telling you that that that clock he had in the pocket The longest clock he's ever had Yeah, I was yeah, it's 90 He was spoiled with reads He had a three four more He had multiple plays where he was like Okay, you could like see him figuring out what he was gonna do Is it I think I'm gonna run over here and then I'll kind of loft it over that he's kind of open now But he's about to be wide open right after I just run over here for a second and it was also casual

Yeah, he was he was too easy Yeah, and we were I understand that it was Texas state and like we're not gonna we're gonna see if our judges Hey, they didn't block you tip and say Yeah, I mean it is clearly different when you're playing a better g6 team and it is significantly I mean the sack that arch took the singular sack he had was his fault He almost had too much time like they gave him too much decision making to do and then he gets close Just so you could tell in his head it caught him away. I'm not supposed to be running I got to stop and he stops and runs into the guy, but I mean The only play that really concerned me from the line was the touchdown to Coleman where see on he got beat pretty bad Of the inside and that's why the guy got a hand of the face But you can live with that if that's the one in past blocking problems And those ass Yeah, I was that was the NFL through you get punched in the face and you throw it on stride in double coverage for six They don't draw them up better than that

So he says he could have run Yeah, it didn't need to be a hit on arch It was a hit on arch because arch was like I'm gonna hang in here and make the game Arch has that I'm gonna stand in and wait for the very last half second for my guy to get open for me to let this ball go down And he arch will take the hit You know why he was born watching that that's something that a lot of the older quarterbacks would do They if they knew they needed one more second and that guy was gonna be open They're gonna they would take the punch if they knew they could get that pass off and get the ball down the field And we got a little bit of time left. I'm trying to find the exact comment How are you feeling about the the run game heading into this game? And we just talked about our story at 40 times Didn't talk much about much good about the online run game. How are you feeling? I mean Third and one first and goal The run it in those instances do a good job. Otherwise, you know, we'll sort that out against uh, UTSA

The pass will set up the run on Saturday. The the run is only gonna be it's gonna be like in Tuscaloosa in 23 Fourth quarter it's gonna be in the fourth quarter when you're up a few scores And you need three first downs in the last five and a half minutes and that's when they're gonna lean in on it hard Just It's all year you only need it situationally It's with this team with this team now. It's not overall and the the scheme of football, but with this particular team This is yeah with with really with the ideal team you'd rather be He got established physicality at the run of line of scrimmage come on man. We went 54 minutes for disagreeing No, thank you guys had a disagree in the middle there. You were just hiccuping all over it. So you couldn't get your full I do I did that for six minutes and then didn't say another word until it was gone No one notices except for dip don on there being like oh It's the trotions

I want to send him a care package in a bottle I just I just filled it up for the baby go ahead and get that get that thing ready That's just there I did not need to click on all right come on room Wayne's just trying to start mess He's lucky his comment came in right for this one because I love a fullback and I wanted to bring this up The NFL game last night was a full back fest and I couldn't tell if it was Absolutely ruining a good product or if it was my favorite thing That was a terrible game trick trick me by the way You mean a regular game by Drake main regular game from the playoff starting last year to on I think people have figured him out in a sense in a sense they've kind of figured out But I will say this Seattle secondary is nasty They don't miss tackles they don't miss coverages and they don't miss interceptions They were down three safeties from last year that one left and free agency two were injured And so it's like and then they wanted to give it to a remodeled Stevenson every time which is great for my

PPR league where he got six catches but I had jadarian price my buddy has three eight times Yeah, but he was only five yards of carry. I mean he's doing he was doing well I was with them but man that was just it was the Drew Locke game essentially You know The back pack it was the Drew Locke and get Drew Locke some love Sam Doarnall goes out in the fifth play of the game No no there's no telling where he's going to come back I like I was covering that game Evan I was actually at that game and and you had Herman doing all that on the sideline and we were just sitting up with the press box going What's her doing? What's he do, but the players loved it, Ellinger loved it, but it's like, I was actually on a plane with Drew Locke. Like, 10 years ago, we both caught the same flight going to Oregon for the Elite 11 opening camp. And then funny story about Drew Locke, I actually broke his offer from Texas. Texas offered him back in, I guess it was 2013, 2014.

And the funniest thing was, hey, I just got offered by Texas, blah, blah, okay. I reported the next morning he'd convinced Missouri. So he was a good call to quarterback. He was okay. He was okay. Um, people are talking about a chat. Do you guys want them to go deeper than Smothers Brown in this game in the running back room? Terry, Simon, Nibblet. I wrote an average, snap percentage thing. Like I think Nibblet, maybe it's like five or six plays. Nibblet's gonna have some design stuff in there. I don't want to see Terry. I don't want to see Cooper. Don't want to see Terry. I want to see. I'm not good, but I'm not ready. I don't think he needs to be funny in this game. No, no, I'm with you. He doesn't. I don't like how Terry looked against Texas state. Because you know why? Because little Jordan Humphrey didn't look good at running back in college either. I agree. Good at another position. This is our future outside linebacker. And I know where we're talking about a little Jordan. Future outside linebacker. Yeah. That kid would have to beef up.

Coastal Paul's too good. We got to do Sam. Michael Terry's just such a good kid and such a good program guy. Go find the fit for him. Go find him. You know what's interesting is that at the end of the game, they played Jotty Newman, Kajo, and Colman, and they ran inside zone, and they ran it with Nibblet. And it looked surprisingly good. The Colman brothers are progressing and developing. I think Jordan and Devin Colman are going to be contributors next year. That second line is like a night and day. Totally different looking groups in the first line is all live athletes for blind men. You know, smaller athletic lane. The second line is enormous people. You remember after the first practice this year,

I probably don't know, but I had the old line for half the segment. And the first thing I wrote was they didn't have this size and depth on this roster at the same time last year. The second deep did not look anything like it did this fall. The Colman and Colman in particular are Paris Patterson. That is a big kid. Listen, Jackson Christian. Might sneakily be the best center in the program. Jackson, what's your high take from the four of the year? He's the most athletic. He's the most technically sound. And right now, he's just chomping, getting some experience. And I love Conor Robertson. No one's going to know what to do better and put guys in better positions than Conor Robertson. But the position can be upgraded. Robertson looks, he looks, he really stabilized things last year in the solid. Yeah. This year, he looks better. And this arch is guy. I didn't notice that Jackson, I remember

in flashing a couple times where I was like, oh, there you go. There's Robertson. And I was like, oh, wait, no, that's Jackson there. Jackson's the one with the upside. But I feel like it's one of those. If Arch wants Conor there, it's going to be Conor there. I don't do. No, Jackson's not really. That's why I'm saying maybe November December. Man, also just getting him one more year and then taking over next year could be pretty big. We've been wanting to see Texas have, I don't know if Jackson's really that big. But we've been hoping that Texas could finally have like a big, super athletic, powerful center for years and years. And the best we can do is always a smaller, undersized, scrappy athletic guy who knows what to do. We've had a bunch of those that have been pretty solid at that. Right, right. Jake Majors, Tyler. Like Major, Thomas, and Nosa.

Christian is bigger than those guys. He's not in the huge, large human quotient that everyone likes to talk about with blood. But Christian is bigger and more athletic than those guys. Well, that's maybe he's finally our Elias in line. A-B. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. You know, when you're wrapping it up on a backup center question that it's about time to get the live done. So thank you guys so much for watching. Make sure you're going over to InsideTexas.com and checking out all the awesome stuff we've got going on previews headed into the So How State game, Ian with his great analysis.
