This is the D.P.H.R.O.N. Rothenburg Podcast. Let the Wild Rumpus begin! Catch us live weekday mornings from 6-10 AM on ESPN, New York. The MSG Network and streaming live on YouTube. He's irreplaceable. I am the station Hemroy. He's well informed. Parker Romo, he can make every kick. Joel Piniero, he can make a whatever his name is. Freddie Piniero, whatever Piniero's name is! I don't know his name! He's D.P.R.O.N. I'm Dave. And this is Stump. Rothenburg. What an open. That's good. That's my phone. I gotta tell you, I don't even care that it's all day. I love that open. Parker Romo alone. I don't know his name! I'll always remember that day. Forever. And then you finish up. I'm furious! Yes, it's my favorite. I'm furious! I was so angry that day. That's still my angry that day. I'm Dave! That's why I am.
RJ, what are we working with here? I actually texted Dave because I was I was fiddling around with it. No, it's almost done, it's missing something. And then the I'm Dave. There it is. You on the season. I'm irreplaceable. I'm the station Hemroy. You on the season, which we're, we're what, two thirds through now, one or more. 273 and 46. 273. Okay, 270. That's impressive. Okay. All right, that's not bad. Um, we're ready. We're ready. We've had, we've had people on hold since what time did the, uh, Anthony the 20 something? 26, 27. That's been hold for a long time. We'll get there and then hang on a minute. Uh, we always start out with Andy in Merrick and the you, my friend, are on Stump Rothenberg. Have at it. Good morning guys, you know, with the new platform, I was going to give you an MSG question. However, Herbie Balls reminds us it is football season. It is football season. We've got a giant question. Okay. Yeah, get a giant question. Are you ready?
Yeah. The top five punters by volume in NFL history, have each launched over 1,300 punts. Three of those top five have New York Giant connections. Name all three. Jeff Fiegel's. Number one, Sean Lendetta. Number four. Oh, I think Dave Jennings has to be the third. Let me see. Let me see. I'll show you buddy. Huh? It's not your buddy. Why the fird? No. So it's so it's most punts with the giants. No, no career career punts. So Jennings with New York time, right. But all three played for the giants. Correct. Jennings punted for a long time. It's got to be a guy who had a really long career. I mean, you have to have punted for 15. Is there another giant's punter that punted for that long? I feel like every other guy I can remember was just like short, you know, short term. Dave Jennings.
Bread, Maynard. Really? Oh, wow. All right. I would, that, what a terrible start. Uh, you know what? Good for you, Andy. I would, and you see, you could hit at this point in his voice. Oh, I'm sorry. I got it wrong. He didn't want to be the first loss on MSG. No, now he is. So that, so it's interesting. That goes in as a three-parter, but I get one wrong and that's a full loss. Yeah, well, that's a three-parter question. Yeah. He said, give me all three. Fair enough. All right. So that's O and one. Now let's go to Anthony and the male trix if we can rebound a little bit. Anthony, you're on Stumper, Austinberg. Hello, David. Anthony, hello. By the way, congratulations on the baby. Thank you, man. Thank you, man. Huge, huge shout out to my wife, Maria. I don't know how women do it, but she did it. And shout out to all of them. I'm not there. B and A, girl dad is one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. Anthony, you're like a mile and a half away from the phone. Talk into the phone. No, I apologize. He's porn is hard out here. You're right about.
You're not really here. No, that's much better, Anthony. Thank you. Okay, I apologize. That's okay. Hello, Richard. Hello. Congratulations, buddy. All right. So thank you, man. I appreciate it. This is going to be my last baseball question of the year. Yeah. And we're going to go with this one. So there has been one player. So Kyle Schwarber is on pace to lead the league in home runs and strikeouts. Total strikeouts, total home runs. There's been one player in the left, 35 years that led the league in home runs and strikeouts in the same season. Can you name that player? This is in single season, right? Yes. Schwarber's got a lot to. Um. Either league, right? Correct.
They led the whole major leagues with home runs and strikeouts in the same season. The whole major league is not just in the league. They're all of baseball. Correct. So, yeah. So Schwarber has 43 home runs right now, which is leads the baseball. And he struck out 200 times, which leads the baseball. What a Dave King. What big strikeouts. Kingman. That's tough question. It's going to be an 0-2 start. Gallo ever lead the league in home runs? I mean, might have. So I'm sure you're looking to strike out. You know how much you strike out. You got to be over. I mean, there'd be top. You got to be top 4 in the lineup because I'm going to lead the league
in the bottom third. Bottom half. Gorman Thomas. How recent was this? No, don't answer that. Sorry. Oh, it's 2-star would be unheard of. Yeah, but I think it's very, I think it's very possible. Um, I mean, bonds never did, right? McGuire? Was it McGuire's big strikeout guy? So, uh, I think of those guys. It's more recent. It's not Kingman. It's very Steinbach. The American League, but he's not the reason. I don't know. I think I'm just wasting time. I don't think I have the answer. Um, hmm. Hmm.
There's no met. Is there a met? Not Pete. Pete Lee. Judge? That would be too easy. It's like, I don't know. Um, I'll say Pete Alonzo, but I don't have the answer for you. Amen. Do not give him the ding. Oh, it was Chris Davis in 2015. Oh, Chris Davis on the Orioles. That Chris Davis, right? Yeah. Yeah. That's unfortunate. My voice. Congratulations again, Anthony. That's someone to. All right. Let's go to Bob and Riverhead. It speaks how people feel about you though, because they're upset when you get along. Oh, I mean, I can totally get some wrong. All right, Bob, what do you got? Hey guys, how are you? I was better before the so-and-two star but go ahead I'll try to set you up. No, no, no, I don't I don't lay up. So I don't want to be Bob baby Bob baby him no lay up no lay up What's the smallest city that has a team in more than one of the four major sports?
But been more than one Yes That's not clean day Right um Salt Lake Salt Lake You've got the judge and the mammoth Guessing yeah, yeah Looking at baseball assault lake Sacramento's a single that can't be that's wrong that count but it can't be that small Right don't even play it is You think salt lake is smaller than buffalo right buffalo is gotta be a size of a city Better question for RJ probably RJ have biggest buffalo are just screening Yeah, Buffalo is a sizable city, right?
Well, yeah, I mean it's clearly not like in the green bay round, but I mean I would think like Yeah, I weren't we're purely talking like metro popular you're talking about just just Like a man of people correct Bob not like square miles or anything like that, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, just a city itself See the salt but salt lake is not a small city But it would be Salt Lake it would be Buffalo It's all I can think of it's not a Minnesota Multiple teens Nothing in Texas. They've tons of nothing new Mexico Vegas known Maybe this Salt Lake I'm Salt Lake and Buffalo you say Salt Lake will go Salt Lake final answer Salt Lake is correct. There we go. Yes, there we go
Dave I would do Rick one. No, is that the way we're gonna do this That's not right though. What do you mean? That's not right. I'm undefeated MSG That's also not right. What do you mean? It's not because you threw it out there I had to do the heavy lifting I think you just moneyed the waters Then you know what you said you said I'm just throwing out there. Oh, I don't even yell that Diculous then you know it then don't say it. Let me do the reconnaissance on my listen I'll go eat my protein for no go go there's a muffins in there go Whatever there are this King's Hawaiian deliciousness over there and I smell them They smell delicious from an enclosed studio. No, I went over there. Oh, I thought you were like a dog I can't smell You can only hear through these walls you can't smell So I can't see why in here. All right, let's go to patty and connected the iPadty. Hey doing How are you how are your summer good? Yeah, it was good. Thanks. I was yours Good. It was pretty good. Good. Do you know what's interesting about patty? So I have patty as a teacher what who doesn't call during the summer
But then when he goes back to school and his job that's when he decides to start picking up the call skin I have class right at 830 so that's perfect time right before I got to go get kids that I call you guys good Works out and that's all a question for you Dave. Yeah So who is the all-time the all-time AFC leader in receiving Just FC. What does that mean yards career? Yes receiving yards career for a career You see you think Marvin Harris that was my first thought he's seventh He's seventh all time on the all-time receiving list, but he's number one in the AFC all time right um I got it Thank High's been trophy winner
I believe so don't quote me on that but I believe so Raymond has Tim Brown sent to you That's a good one Tim Brown final answer Tim Brown out yet in Marvin Harris and I think I think I think you said yeah, I think I was right back okay You back all right all right been touching go here a little bit better all right Let's continue along 809193776 artists get the five pack. Yep coming up and not just a little bit as well All let's go to quarry in plain view quarry you my friend are on stump Rothenberg My friend hey guys congrats on the msd show can't wait thanks quarry So I've got a next question all right in game five oh my last shot went up O.G. I know we got the rebound as the time expired Who with the other four nicks on the floor at the time is this really look like a real question. I mean I'll try to answer a Bronson I don't like this is the tip yeah
That's that's what you talk about Oh game When you want to be in chip in the climate time expired Yeah, he said time expo nicks were up for so when the next one the title who was on the court Right Yeah, that's the question Is this a rare is this a good question? I mean this is good better You want to try to answer this I have I have no idea and you know what honestly I don't really care I don't even I don't I don't know quarry you can I want to say I don't say I'll say I can tell you I can tell you two things I know for sure Jaylen was not right Jaylen was not I think we're about the tip and yeah and and cat felled out right so O.G Mitchell Robinson right because you get that big rebound I McBride I'm not McBride uh bridges
Bride maybe two Josh Josh Hart Is that the final answer yeah sure It was bridges Parts shammy and so hand yeah That's why there's some reason Mitch wasn't in cat's out out and Brunson was out for deep and trick question Are do you like that question? I'm surprised you let that through no I I did I think that's a really horrible question But at the time there was a I'll be a living and I don't think it was a right question either but at the time And I probably could have you a secret well Why are we I mean that's a that's a terrible question the other questions coming in. We're also not also terrible I'd not great okay All right, let's let's go to Jared and Morganville who's been good lately. So I think he'll put us back on a good path Jared you're on stump broth Congrats on the msg spot boys. Thanks, Jerry. Jolly fingers recorded. You're welcome recorded the lo Rolly fingers recorded the lowest ur a to win the Sy Young Award Who has the worst or highest ur a to win the Sy Young Award? It happened in the last 45 years
I used to ur a to win Sy Young I wonder if it's over three and you said it's happened within the last 45 years 45 years. Yep Hmm I like this question So you got the A's guys it's not gonna be uh it's not gonna be a closure so it's not gonna be Ecclesley I just got a free coffee with my rewards. Oh, it's nice Do we didn't do we get a text from uh we did the best on the way all right um 45 years puts us back to 80 right Yeah 81 81 American League was Lamar. Oh, could be Lamar Nationally you can 81 Yeah That's the error so it's not gonna be a Maddox because he always a great hero is it he won
Sy Uh, it's not a shurser I couldn't go to the 153 I had a harsher sire All right, there's a lot that goes on here um It's not America is not Willie Willie Hernandez I think one that MVP and Sy Young Clemens never won an eRA up Lamar couldn't be Lamar hoi
By eleven I just the the Tony voice Because he's 80 I think he's 81 And he said within the last 45 years so it makes you think like He cues 81 I think a Oakland a one and 80 Brewers because they're in the American league I'm uncertain I'm gonna go Lamar hoi 81 white socks So the 81 winner was Fernando balance well in the national however Right in the American league 83 Lamar hoi would an eRA of 366 As the worst eRA to win the sy Young I shot this so all right So I thought it was 81 but he was 83 We'll take it all right there you go So that's that's a win Lamar hoi And I believe Ray you can even look I think Tony LaRusse might have in the manager Of the white socks Back with that team
Uh, okay, let's continue along take one or two more Then we'll get to the five pack we're run by the great RJ centilo Chris and Beth page Chris you're on stump Rothenberg Hey guys hi Chris Hey, uh, so when's gotten over a mischievous field goal Can you name all the defensive players on the field for the guy? I you you have to be kids right? Yeah Yeah, of course I am that that was the worst question of ever heard on stump Rothenberg I'm sorry, it's so he asked the people that are some pretty nasty because of who was Sohan was on there like it was but it was it was a bad you're not even paying like you just Kind of excited about what just happened as opposed to like a one-o's And you're for All right Go ahead Very quickly my son and I are gonna go out to that Rams game next week the giant ram game Take him to Vegas first and then we're driving out the Los Angeles Nice that'll be a challenge your son My son is 24 You know You guys can do some real average podcast
He's going to try and podcast. I want to get you on his podcast one day day He does a giant among men podcast up in Buffalo Well, how about that? RJ's looking at me and he I believe RJ because RJ is from Buffalo would prefer to go on than me But I like to go to Buffalo the new stadium and watch oh yeah, I would like that as well. All right, Chris. What do you got? All right, so 28 franchises that are made to Super Bowl, okay? Yeah, I was close 28 franchise that made the Super Bowl Three have never had the lead in the game in the Super Bowl They made it to the ball never had the lead at any point during the game. Can you name the most recent? Something I'm an abhorrence if you can aim all three, but the most recent is the what I want So And this could be multiple appearances in the Super Bowl Yes, yes, one of them is multiple, but it's not the most recent one of them never
Was the most big right and you're the good at this charges jumps off the page to me Because the charges were only in one And they got malt Right that I mean that was uh Yeah, they got smash it was 49 to something They got smashed they I don't think they ever had a twenty nine twenty six something that sounds right That was a nine or something. Yeah, so yes, the six such I'm that was the monkey off the back. Yeah, I plumbers the young so they that was And that's the only one they've ever been it that's the only one they've ever been there's no way they trail the neck in song So we got how many of these are there instances there's three There's three, but you give me if you can the most recent and abominance for the other two All right, I think we did this recently in one of the ones you were not Yeah, I don't remember the question. All right, so I'm Yeah, so don't I'm not gonna tell you I'm not gonna tell you I'm not gonna tell you they're the most recent yet But I'm gonna throw out the chargers as a team that's been to the Super Bowl, but never led
That's they all one of the answers yep Panthers have led right and wait and wait keep quiet right you know that you you know the answer because I'm rewracking my brain here. I'm pretty sure I know the answer. Yeah, all right So panthers have definitely led in the Super Bowl Unfortunately, the Eagles have have led in a soup. How many teams is this again? Three teams have been to a Super Bowl All right, so how about the Vikings, right? I don't think the Vikings have ever led in a Super Bowl But they wouldn't be the most recent So that if they had They're an answer, but they're not the most recent. Yeah But just for the second time I'll say the one you're not mentioned yet is the most recent and you haven't mentioned it yet So the charge is in Vikings it to what's the most recent which games the most recent Ha the Cardinals led in that Super Bowl they definitely led
You got to start thinking so it's probably a team well no because the Vikings went four times The Jaguars have never the Bengals Bengals of lead The the Niners they've had to go on the game when he drive boomers team led that yeah, they they'd led The John Taylor had the game when he touchdown that's the whole John candy, you know Montana Ah So let's think to super He's never led in the Super Bowl So what teams have been to the Super Bowl, but never won a Super Bowl So You know the answer because so you're not gonna help me at all. I can't because you know the answer all right The Browns have never been the Jaguars have never been the Raiders of one. I mean, I have to go through like this You're such a bad guy Who do you want for me? Washington's one Philly's one a giant's of one the Cowboys Vikings we got bears have won the Packers of one
Who's the other team the lines have never been all right done the Panthers have definitely led right the Panthers led over the Over the Patriots And I think the Panthers might have led over the Broncos to art so it's not the Panthers The Saints have won Well, so's in that in that division Uh, you can tell me who's in the division Uh, do you say Falcons Falcons Falcons Falcons led Falcons led Patriots The leave me they let thirty. Yeah, thirty five three. All right, uh Who's the other team in that division box box they've won all right, so now we go to the West Niners of one um See all the leds see how to one who's who's the last team there The whatever Arizona no they lead they lead lead at one day lead lead at Spitzburg all right So the West and South are we right to say it's a AFC team Correct The Jets have led the bills have definitely led the dolphins have won and led and the who's the other team in that division
The Patriots have won a couple of superman. Yeah, okay The rounds have never been the Bengals have definitely led The Steelers have won many and Ravens have won unfortunately okay, so now we have two to be are we right to say it's down to one of these two divisions Yes, you're you're voting in on it. Okay The Jaguars have never been the Colts have won The Texans have never been what Tennessee and Tennessee They've been to one They probably never led will put them to the side for the moment Kansas City has won the Raiders have won the Charters we got but it's not the answer Friends and the Broncos of one final answer most recent 1999 Kevin Dyson Tennessee Great job. There were down 16 nothing they tied it up at 16 16 the only time it never led and they lost 23 to 16
Great job. Thank you. Chris appreciate you That right there was the work the inner workings of my mind Way to work right there. Okay RJ you ready for your five pack. Yep. You're in three battle. Oh in two. See when four and one down the stretch All right, we're going now impressive today. We're going in honor of football beginning former NFL MVP quarterbacks. Okay Playing the hits as I said Start very easy Steve Young Uh BYU he went to Greenwich High School Greenwich, Connecticut sure did yes Brett Farff Southern Mississippi. That's right. I'm great. Shaper. No. No. Yeah. That was really bad Not good. Yeah. On a number five. By the way speaking of which This is not part of the time to do it. There's no way that's claimathies. What do we do? It's not good deal It they but it's way the way teams he pretending like it's it's not I think it's a high. Yeah, it's a high. You sure? Yes. I mean, I'm not sure but I think I'm sure Yeah, I claimathies
That looks that looks ridiculous. If that's claimathies, he should go and tie that looks ridiculous Southern Miss another uh directional school Because it's the guy from family guy Yeah, he goes giggity giggity. Yeah, he really does Uh court Warner Uh, he went to Iowa but the Northern Yeah, Northern Grocers. Yeah rich Gannon He's a blue hen nice job. Yeah, Delaware. Yep Finally Steve McNeer One double a Alcorn state I like I was told to show that's right because when you win is like I win And you go undefeated one and oh, uh, okay, you know my I just I just rattled off that so what do we finish with RJ Nine and three did you count the um The nicks not having those five guys on the or whatever five guys not a good question, but yes, you counted it Yeah, that's right so so in my mind nine to two you can say nine to do that's fine. Well, it's a good bounce back after an oh two start All with two stars to really if if you wanted to say you could say we rattled off nine in a row
Does that question should have never gotten on the art today wasn't your best But I think it it shows people you know what it was what you're man You know what they say like a starting picture has Yes, like 10 yep starts flawless 10 starts. He's awful and 10. He's got to work his way through That was today at the work my way, which is not a great guy to do it Not a great day not to have your best stuff or whatever, but it's not gonna happen next week You know what we'll deal we'll try again diversity yet and you look that do you look at square in the face and I Said no, that's today no Thanks for listening to the dp 8 Rowan Rothenburg podcast Kicks the show on demand whenever and wherever you want you can't keep us up because we're everywhere Just subscribe to us wait us and review us wherever you get your podcasts There's no more in 19 days and 13 days and 12 days hours. I like that. That was a nice read right? Yeah, I fairness to you I know we busted your chops. I mean there are some people that just better equipped to be you know general contractors right the developer
I would be a general come up with the plan. Yes, and put you in the position and hold you accountable and make sure it's done the right way exactly And then I'm I'm the front facing person. Yeah, you're the you're the star Time now for the big blue report brought to you by and you said they dropped off some delicious good. Hey king so I oh baby I said Jefferson he's smashing them Jefferson is not looks so he looks bad. He's the last time you said he goes Sunday. Yeah He is he's he's raspy he looks Can you say homeless? Okay, you can say it. Yeah, yeah, can you say without getting a trouble? I wouldn't say now because I'm gonna need him to go to Starbucks and pick up my coffee. Oh, is that right? Jefferson if you're listening, yeah, we're gonna need you to go because Bowler got delay. Yeah, there's two of them. We're gonna need you So even though Bowers not gonna pick up the coffee. He's still gonna receive a coffee. Receive one. Yeah. Okay. All right. That's nice So here's Eli Manning who's on get up yesterday and was asked about the expectations year two For Jackson dark excited about Jackson He showed some some great ability to make plays last year and so I think he has that I think in the second year
You know grow and just you know playing on script a little bit more getting the ball out on time You know taking the little five and six-yard completions not always waiting for the big play But you still want to create you know kind of keep that athletic ability that have been ability to create plays to extend plays to make some big plays in the passing game on scramble So you want some of it you just don't want it all the time. Obviously he's got a you know slide stay healthy Don't take the extra hits But you know, I think he'll continue to make those strides. When they about Jackson I've always he does listing the coaches he listens to advice I think John Harball will be in his ear has been in his ear all all season all training cam about you know Staying healthy sliding playing smart staying within the offense doing those things and I'm excited to see him make that that step into that second year I think it's a really fair assessment a couple things a I know there's a lot of people that are of the mindset of well I'm not really sure what Jackson Dart is and Mel will join us and says if he's healthy He's going to be good now. I know I'm I'm giant centric and maybe on the one side
What when you look at Jackson Dart? Do you think like if he's healthy? He's going to be a very good NFL quarterback. You're not there yet. No, I think that if he's healthy And he does some of the things that Eli is talking about. I mean It's one thing to show flashes and I think last year was more than just flashes Especially if you consider the circumstances right like I mean where the season was at he gets thrown it against at the time I was undefeated chargers team right and yeah just beating Kansas City everyone was excited about the chargers And he goes in and wins that game you could just see like the the personality the vibrant on the team had completely changed So like it the team buys into him He's like check the leadership box and then when you see the athleticism stuff like that, but that's not where I I think a lot of times with young players They I think you saw with Mark Vantos. I know it's a different sport, but it's like you burst on the scene and You have this success and then maybe you feel like hey I'm here. I arrived and you get away from you get complacent. No, yeah It's Not necessarily complacent, but you don't continue the growth that's necessary to have continued success
Like the great ones continue to find ways to get better right Patrick Mahomes of the world Tom Brady's all these guys they don't go into an offseason instead themselves I had a really good season So I'm just gonna keep doing the things I yeah, they're gonna keep doing the things that they're doing But there are things that they look at and go I need to improve that I need to improve that and they're always trying to get better And the things that Eli Manning is talking about I think are some of the same things that Caleb Williams had to improve on right? It's like this Is it great if you can play above the exonose and if I call a bad play you make it a good play because you can create time And you can create a big play yeah, that's awesome like the touchdowney through to Malachi fields in the preseason That's awesome great play There's there's not a lot of there's not a lot of consistency in doing that all the time No, but knowing you you have that in you. Yeah, great, but but let's let's stay the core stay the core stay the core stay the Closer than when you have to go outside the box and use that kind of it's like that I need to know that I can draw something up and when that play works that you can complete that pass So we can stay on time right so we can take the offense stays on schedule as opposed to you running around Trying to look for a bigger play when you sit there looking at day five there's five yards right there take it right
Just not everything needs to be Just keep taking it like but all like it feels like a lot of the athletic quarterbacks that come into this league This conversation is being had going into year two Like yeah, we saw that we know you could do it. That's what makes you great. We don't want to get rid of that We just want to refine it Like we want you to like yes That's awesome and we want you to make that big play But it doesn't have to be a big play every single time because sometimes when you're looking for that big play It turns into a big negative play And now the drive gets killed because you just took a stack you shouldn't take it correct take the you know take Don't get bored taking the easy stuff because there will be a time when the play does break down and you can go We're gonna need you to do some of that stuff. Yeah, it just can't be consistent. You know what to be that guy all the time right and And I don't think the giants are gonna be a real like A crazy aggressive offense or just gonna throw the ball away. I think they want to I think they want to return to what giants were in the 80s Where we're gonna take we're gonna take the football and we're gonna run it down your throat And well, I'm feel sims is good. We'll throw yeah, and host other good and we're throwing. We're not a pose
You can have to take you can have to throw the ball down the field in the day. I don't have to take I just need to make the easy stuff needs to be easy Right like I mean that the stuff that's there of course like for Caleb Williams is the same thing and cable He was just still trying to figure it out like though those easy completions that There's nothing wrong with picking up seven year old when the play works. Yeah, just keep us on schedule right because now We're moving every second and three big different than second and ten Changes the entire because you can't because you can't complete a pastor your scrambling around you take a sack and all of a sudden the drives dead Especially and you know what and they I guess they I feel like they had this last year because they used him in the gun so much It sounds like he's gonna be under center a lot Which if you run the ball effectively should really open up the play action game It should right but it's part of the oh him getting comfortable being under center more Last year felt like most of the stuff was geared towards what he did well at Ole Miss right well Couple of reasons a there was a desperation Brian Dable was trying to save the job you are the ground running And you wanted to get the best version of him so yeah, I think there's there might be an adjustment period But again, do I think he I think if he's healthy he'll be a good at least a good NFL cool. Yeah, I think you guys just it's it's realizing that
The things you got away with at the college level you're not gonna get away with at this level It's not and I think you see a lot of these defenses too that I mean their mindset is yeah, we give up yards We just won't give up points because at some point we know that you'll take a holding penalty right We'll get a sack and then your drive is the real bend but don't break defense right you can't you I mean That's what I want from the giants on Sunday let Dallas, you know Be successful between the 20s and then let's see Brandon Arbery kick a lot of fields tighten up Yeah, yeah, but that you can see like you've watched enough. We all watching a football where you recognize like hey Things that this drive looks great and then all of a sudden all takes his one penalty or takes one sack and then told like the drives completely The real Especially with the giants the way their offense has been so anemic for the last god knows how many years and the other thing too is I mean time of possession is your friend When I got some of the questions on my defense that I have as far as I can my second area and stop and the stop in the run the more time I got the ball on off if I go on seven minute drive and all of a sudden I you know I put up a touchdown and I took take a half the quarter up. Yeah, I mean of course that's my advantage and they I
Again, who knows because we have to see how it looks and who these teams are at the beginning of the season But I mean the giants feel like they're gonna be a ball control team like the offense. I should be good. I mean They want to run the football It's a wait and see as to what millig neighbors is gonna be early on in the season. Well, he's a home run hitter Yeah, he's a beam. He's a legitimate number one receiver, right? Like he sees someone you have to game plan against likely I think is gonna be a real nice addition But as far as like the players outside of that Like when you look at the entirety of the NFL. It's not like the It's not like the the giants are you know flush with all this receiving talent. No, they five receivers But it's like it's so yeah like Let's Let's run the hell out of it, right? Let's control that part of it play action We know you can make players with your legs. Let's get the ball molyxans. Let's get the ball in likely sands and let them go to work but like Jackson dart may I mean may have some growing pains early People are okay. It's only year two and it's a new system right which which is okay I mean, may not have the full version of what millig neighbors is. I don't think you will right
How could you or he'll be on a pitch count just because you want to ease him into this right But if millig neighbors is really good to start. I mean then you know, it's got I think I mean We had this conversation last year. What was the most impressive part of our jack's dart is like you had no Millig neighbors none and you're looking at some of these receivers like think the season one day I'll add and like a Gunner rolls it gets like yeah, is this guy is this pretty good good or is it just Jackson's out making this guy look good Right because you watch good or I'll shesky like hey, I didn't realize he was so good. He's not which is a testament to how good we think that jack's right If that's that's the definition of what makes a really good quarterback. You guy they could take I mean Brady did it forever right or Dion Branch is so amazing. No, he wasn't well I just think it's like you get guys to the point you were making about just doing the little things you get guys that Like you can trust it gonna be where they're supposed to be when they're supposed to be there. I mean yeah Like that's why walker and those guys were so adamant cuz you know I don't really know. Hey This is gonna be a seven year you're gonna be rebar. I'm gonna throw you a turn around the balls Yeah, it's gonna hit you all right Let's break something and it's not a big deal But I think something giants related which will turn out to kind of be a big deal. We'll get to that next what do you want to say something RJ?
You know what I didn't but I will for you This is just the end of it. Oh, that was the big blue report brought to you by King swine King swine best slider In all the football what why are we why are we laughing because I forgot something they're making funny I expected you to yell at RJ and say you know what I did But I didn't you know you're happy. I'd be weird if I yelled at him for the thing I didn't do See, I try set it in only in your ear because I want to I don't want to call it out. Why but this now I was said we're not gonna call on mistakes. I made him. I'm I'm I'm not I know you guys look at me as like Right like perfect and then right below is me. I'm not I make mistakes and I welcome mistakes you bleed He's a human being if you cut me I do bleed. I do view you as a idea of sorts. Well don't because I'm not Fixed for listening to that D. P. H. Rowan Rothen Brood podcast bring it looking for more access to the show Why cuz you know why follow us at dr on ESPN the thing
I think with the giants that's been so Substandard for such a long time and I know it's not a sexy thing the record Yes, but like a smaller minute piece is special teams have been so bad. Yeah for so long right Games are about to start. Oh, by the way, Graham. You know he can't kick today So you need to have the punter you got to go for two every time or how many have you ever seen? I know a team have a kicker Not be able to make it through warmups and then not have a kicker. Well, you know I'm more in the giants more frustrating I mean not I don't know if more frustrating is the way to put it But what makes it more frustrating is especially now when you see You see how How beneficial it is to have somebody that That can kick the way a brand-new-nobrie can kick and I don't that's a tremendous luxury I don't not that I wouldn't want it. I don't need that. I just need a guy that can consistently make 40 to 50 yard feel goals like going what I love a 58 yard ashore Well, it just felt like it felt like with the new rule like with a new kickoff rule
that It really like highlighted who had good kickers and who didn't yes, where it's like where you get the ball It's like okay get one first down you have a legitimate chance to score three points And then it also like that on the other end of that was like when you don't have it What a disadvantage it is And it was a huge disadvantage. I mean it listen for me is a jet spinner with the one good thing You could point to our season last year was the special teams and then you moved on from your kicker Which is interesting, but no, I just think it's been so I don't even not buttoned up that to actually have a coach that you know is gonna be buttoned up like the putters Oh, he's special in these special teams guys That's how we you got a job originally with with Baltimore. He was a special teams guy in Philly is The putters gonna be good the kickers gonna be good the coverage is gonna be better like I just I think that people kind of sleep on that because not sexy But special teams matters a lot. It's huge. I mean it's what was surprising too though is I mean you're talking about a guy in Brian Dable It comes from you know that That bill bellic check Nick Sabin Train the thought where I mean, you know how many times we heard bill bellic check talk about how important special teams was
Because it is I feel position like all that stuff is important. I mean, it's huge But I told you the stuff with with Bella check when we did the documentary on reading Bella check and we talked to a lot of the guys I think that mcordy was they know we're talking to him and he's like he would have it scripted half time We go in and I'm making up numbers with 13 minutes on the clock We do this for four and this for two and this for three and then we you know re-entered the stadium With it. It's like every Yeah, he was detailed and it's everything was detailed and accounted for everything and it doesn't sound like that's where the giants have been because they haven't no I mean doesn't sound like it because they haven't who was it was the likely that was talking about What he had heard about giant's training camp before this year. Yeah, yeah, and he got you couldn't believe it right because it was a country club I was too and they know as a country club, which is fine if you're winning. Yeah, right? If you're winning great But you can't have it where every year is just a joke of a training camp But it's easy and it's cake and you walk through it and it's just you know Shangri-la And then you go out and you win four games very rarely with your players complain about having easy training camps
Unless it's unless there's just Absolutely no success that follows up that which is what happened right and you feel like hey, let's give him the long leash Because we know that they'll go out there and they'll take care of their business And they'll be a playoff team and they'll win four games and whatever Like when they would think the whole conversation around David. I was like the reason he The reason players like him can't be just because training camp is easy. That's not that that's not a good reason That's a bad reason right and even if that's why players like him ownership should have made a major problem with that because the results weren't there Outside of year one the giants. Oh think of what they've had since coughlin. I mean coach after Shurmer and macadu and I mean, you know, dable and just just you know Failure gettleman and I mean if failure. No, I don't love Jochen. I don't know a lot of giants fans But at least you Harp this is this is our most team. Yeah, and he's gonna throw one And this is all put it together the way he wants he had that slip the other day when he said I brought him in yeah Well, he's the one making the he makes the decisions. Yeah, of course he does And then I think the kicker's gonna be good too. I think sivada's gonna be good
And I'm I'm excited to watch the giants play you know, it's gonna be a priority It's not gonna be like oh he's gonna take it very seriously. Yeah, we have to I mean I don't know when all of a sudden we got away from like there are three phases of the game right you get defensive off You know defense offense and special the giants have been like a one phase team Which is like half defense half offense no special teams for a number of years and it feels like we're finally If you finally a little bit more button though you're gonna get there to one day maybe hopefully fingers crossed gonna get there to one day You're right. Well, you're still young 44 45 on the horizon You ever think yourself like I'm never gonna see the jets with my lifetime all the time What do you think if you're like in your set like I guess if you're in your 70s you've seen it but if you like How long ago is 69 outs 57 years. So if you're so feel like 63. Yeah, you have no recollection of the jets winning probably And now you're right now. I have no recollection of the jets winning. Oh, how could you I couldn't right I don't I mean outside of the AFC championship game. There's nothing I mean the plus and 15 seasons. That's not possible. It's not supposed to be It's the longest drought in all of North American's professional sports
It's just we these leagues pride themselves on parity right I've been to the last of 15 7 14 of the 32 teams get in 14 of 32. Yeah, and the jets can't get it. No ever ever Statistically, it's almost in a possibility. I know you have all these years. We have the all these hydra picks You use the second overall pick a third or well pick on a quarterback. It's terrible. It really is all right Let's break 809193776 call with your NFL related stuff. Oh, you know what? I feel like we have to and yes on me Thank you. RJ. This is on me and I apologize for that Raymond too and certainly to you We have to do a frenzy have to we have to there's no choice.
