We lost 20 to zero. We might have to leave baseball after that. We came all the way out here in this old Ponyuk town in Pennsylvania. Because you want to have a little Jackie Robinson Day moment. You like the chaos of College Football. And the chaos of radio is Myron tries to get connected to the internet. Yeah. Anybody that's ever listened or watched Marty McGee knows, I'm not really hanging on. I can't. James knows. James lived it for years, but it's producer James did. But yeah, I did the show one time. I suddenly realized my wife was out of the country and I had to pick my daughter up from camp. And I'm like, well, it's like Friday night. And so I did the show driving down the highway with like the Wi-Fi box plugged into the power deal. I'm driving down a row with my comrades on my headset on. And this guy drives by and looks at me because I'm listening to your radio. Yeah. That's great. No, we have people who call in that day. That's great. Yeah. I just have to use. That's it.

3:00I remember, James, were you working on the final four show when I couldn't get the internet and Memphis? And I drove to the truck stop in Arkansas? That's it. I don't think I was on that one. I read it. I read it. I read it. I read it. I was with Myron. The internet went out in Memphis. I drove to Earl Arkansas. Oh, yeah. And Burger King combined rest stop. And I sat there and did it. I did the final four preview show from Earl Arkansas. You know, everybody knows that town. It's the first town between Memphis and the civilization. Yeah. It was like McDonald's Wi-Fi is like the waffle house. Like the hurricanes come in and they shut down entire states and everybody's still at the waffle house. McDonald's Wi-Fi never stops, dude. No one even knows the writing awards I've won from stories that I filed from McDonald's because it's the only Wi-Fi I could find. I love it. I love it. All right. So you're in Oxford for what I think is as excited I've been about a non national championship or Kentucky game in my life, which is else you Ole Miss. But during the break and I didn't let you tell me why because I want you to do it on the air.

4:02You said you are getting out of there. You don't want to be in the stadium. Why? Well, all right. So first of all, I like being married and my only chance like my routine, people are always, people are always, it's so funny last weekend in Lexington. You know, we did Marty McGee and we were done at 12.45 and we were on the three o'clock flight back in Charlotte. And when we were coming in the airport, all of the Alabama fans were like, like on their way, like at two o'clock. And they're like, are you all leaving? And we're like, yes, we want to be, we want to remain married. My only chance to remain married is to be home, so, and you guys know this too. It's hard to keep track of all the games in the nation when you're in one press box as opposed to, you know, being at home. But also, I just, I love going to Ole Miss so much. It's the great, no offense to anyone else listening, you know, Buffalo Bills, fans, LSU, whatever. The greatest tailgating in the world is at the Grove. Yes, I agree. And if you've been there, you don't disagree with that. And I really love day games at Ole Miss. Night games at Ole Miss, it didn't matter who the opponent is.

5:03They're not that fun sometimes. Everyone's, you can be too drunk. And it gets that way. And so now you take that and see, I was at the, I was at the Lane Kiffin Tennessee game. Yes. And through mustard, right? And it got, it got, we joke about it now and like, I've got a piece running on SEC Nation on Saturday. We went to Knoxville and interviewed fans about it and stuff. But it got scary. And I think part of this for me too is, you guys know my dad was a costful ball referee forever. And, you know, you kind of lived in constant fear, certainly pre-9-11. There weren't any X-ray machines or anything. I always worried about some redneck shooting dad because of a holding call, you know? And so, that night in Knoxville was very, that was not fun for me. And so, I'm not saying anyone at Ole Miss is going to do anything just completely off the rails, but I just... Is it reasonable though for people to be worried about it? Yes. Yeah, Hell yes. Absolutely it is. Listen, when the governors of the states and the head coaches and all are saying, hey, let's all just calm down and try to enjoy a game.

6:05That tells you that in the number of the police presence in that town on Saturday is going to be crazy. And so, yeah, I mean, it's real enough that the people in charge are taking it very real. And so, I don't think there's going to happen. I want to make sure I'm clear on that. But that being said, I did not enjoy that night in Knoxville at all. For people, there's a lot of people listening to this that live, have never... Maybe never been to an SEC environment. Maybe there aren't even college football fans. But they know this story because it's transcended sports. I mentioned I was listening to a hockey podcast last week and they were talking about it. For people who have never been to a game like it's going to be, explain to people, first of all, is this going to be the most hate-filled environment that you can remember in college football? Yeah, because... So everybody keeps drawing the comparison and rightfully so to the game we're not letting Kiffen came back to Knoxville.

7:07And most of that came from the student section, the throwing of stuff and all that. I get it. But this is that to me times like five. I agree. Because it's not just... Because Link Kiffen leaves Tennessee to go to USC. That's not a rivalry. Tennessee fans let me know the Pac-12 was back in the day. And vice versa. He left and he basically left the country at that point. But this is a rivalry, y'all. This is the Magnolia Bowl. This is Billy Cannon's Halloween Run in the 1950s. There's so much venom in a border battle, which is what this is. That's who he left for. It is... Ole Miss doesn't really doesn't like Mississippi State. They really don't like LSU. Because they feel like Mississippi State is kind of on their level. LSU feels like bullies. And so it just goes back to Archie Manning. And this goes back to so many games.

8:07And so yeah, there's... It's a rival. It just happened. I mean, this has... It's only been a few games. So this Link Kiffen was a head coach there. And there's so many players on these rosters that have ties both ways. And oh, by the way, Pete Golding was on the staff. It's just... All that added up. It's going to be amazing. And being there is going to be amazing. But I just... I'm not going to stay. Do you believe Sam Levitt's not going to play? I mean, you always like... He's laying... Laying's being lame, right? He's going to play. Yeah. It's funny. I'm working on this. I'm working on this book. So it'll come out next year. It's about the 1924 College Football season. But the call-mactic battle is a Stanford versus Notre Dame. And Ernie Nevers was the big dog. And the role he's going to bring this up is all of the scuff that they did to these guys. To make sure... Ernie Nevers had not played all year. He had two broken ankles. And Pop Warner basically shot him up with every chemical they could find on the West Coast. And he ran over Notre Dame for four quarters.

9:08And all I know is whatever the modern equivalent is to that, they will make sure to Sam Levitt's playing. If they have to strap Tony Stark, you know, Bionics to his legs, he will be in the football game. You... I want you to... Let's picture LSU wins the game. Yeah. How much of a jerk is laying going to be my words, not yours, at the end of the game? He can't help it. He can't help it. He can't help it. He can't help it. He can't. I mean, he could not help himself when he made his... When he had... Imagine we had NFL players in the game, right, at halftime. Yes. And it's a... Of the Clemson game. You know, it's... I mean, when you go out of the office two weekends ago, and there's a mustard bottle in the golf ball sitting right there on the dresser, next to all the national championship rings. I mean, you know, he's just... He just... He can't... This is the guy. I always tell everybody, the moment that I was just kind of like, come on, dude. Was, you know, the famous moment where Marty chased him to the airport in Oxford and gave me a view. And then, what did he do right before he got on the plane?

10:09He and his ex-wife, and I think it was the daughter or the son... One of the kids, they threw up a peace outside and posted it on social media and got on the plane. He can't help himself. And so, no, no, he will definitely say something at some point that he... That he... He didn't think through, but it's Wendy Pephachorn, right? I always say this. It's Wendy Pephachorn from the Sandlot when they say, she don't know what she's doing. Yes, she does. She knows what I thought she's doing. Well, he's him. Now, you can't... You can't not be yourself. You were saying earlier, we were talking about... Yeah, SEC nations at Florida, Auburn. You said this is a $5 million game, and you said there's a bunch of those in college football this week. Was that me? Well, so when my dad was officiating, and, you know, he might not have the biggest game of the weekend, but he would always say to me before he left. Like, let's say it's Virginia Maryland, you know, in the 90s. And my dad would look at me and he goes, this is a million-dollar football game. And what he meant by that was, was that neither one of those teams was going to win the ACC, neither one of those teams was going to win the National Championship. But that win for them was going to determine what their season was.

11:13Yeah. You look at Mississippi State South Carolina this weekend. You look at Florida, or you look at Florida and Auburn. I mean, there's so many again. I'm going to close... S&U and Louisville, whether or not you go to the playoffs, is it, but you know, on the line. That, or even like, in Mississippi State South Carolina, the winner of this game, probably is going to be in a pretty decent bowl game in January. The loser of this game might not be in a bowl game at all. And if they are in one of the game, you never heard of. And so, to me, we were having the call with T-bone Us Guys for Nation a couple days ago. And I said that. I said that. There's so many what I call, you know, million-dollar ball games, because this will determine the moment. Even now, week three, this game is going to determine, you know, how you feel going into the wintertime. If you were Western Michigan, would you feel better now that the FBS has said you were supposed to win? I mean, like, what's that even mean? Like, okay, you know what, a good job. You know, I, you know, I, I, um, I just, to me, it's a pad on the back of, you know, it's like these, to me, it's like these teams going back and, you know, some, some guy goes to do his computer and says,

12:24you know what, Princeton won the National Championship in 1926. Congratulations. Like, what the hell's that even mean? So, so the good news is sure, but, but what, what does that mean going forward is, you know, you get to say you won the game, even though you didn't win the game. Everyone agrees that you won the game, but you don't get the win. It's, it's kind of the reverse of like a NASCAR. You have a team that will be busted for, I mean, Richard Petty one time. Got busted for having an engine that was way too big in the car, and I think it was a 199th when he had. And, and they took all the money away, and they penalized him whatever else. They didn't take the win away. He still has the trophy. Yeah. And so, it's kind of the reverse of that. Like, it, it's hollow one way or the other, but, you know, I give them a lot of credit though. They were a little too gracious in the beginning. I did. Why were they so gracious? I don't know. I don't know. We're going to learn from it. But then the more they thought about it, and the more they sat in it, by the time they got to Sunday and Monday, all of a sudden they're like, well, the hell with this. And that's what they should have said in the beginning. I agree with you. Let me ask if you were on the playoff committee, and Michigan came in 10 and two.

13:28Yeah. And you were choosing between them and Alabama. Are you going to act like they lost? If you're in the room, you do. I mean, to me, that would be a fascinating, the committee, that's such a fascinating sociology experiment. And I only feel I've had a chance to do it, but I've like three or four times I've been able to do these mock selection deals. I did it with the basketball one. Yeah. And you go to great by in Texas, and you sit in the room, I'm going to be sitting like Condi Rises chair, you know, you're sitting in the room, and they throw the computer screens up, and back in the day, Bill Hancock's kind of running the thing. And it really was, what was interesting was, was how different the experience was, like I did it once with a bunch of writers. And I did it once with a bunch of television commentators. I did it once with a bunch of analysts, so guys who have played. And the approach they all have was so different to what they said. Yeah, I think, I think if you, if the mix is right, I think they would absolutely get, I think they'll get, they'll be penalized for it. And the fact that I have weak one or whatever, I don't think that's going to matter.

14:31If it's a deciding factor, you know, I did the basketball one once. And it was fascinating. Yeah, it's one thing to talk about it and to evaluate the final product. It's another thing when you go through it, and you actually see what they're doing in basketball. I don't know about football, but in basketball, it's even harder. You know, these teams don't even play each other most of them, and you're trying to compare. It's hard. There are two games in my opinion this weekend, Ryan, where they're going to have playoff implications, even if the general public doesn't think about it that way. SMU and Louisville, which is where our campus tour for ESPN radio is Houston. And that, that will be probably to figure out the team that will play Miami in the ACC championship. And then Houston and Texas Tech, which will be huge for who will play in the big 12 championship. What do you think of those two games? No, I'm with you 100% because it's funny too, because I, I did this essay for sports center a couple of years ago. I was a game day a couple of years ago. And what I said was I said, y'all are all like begging for this expanded playoff bracket.

15:36It already exists. Like it's already there. And to me, that's why the playoffs should stay relatively small. Because, you know, we're not having these conversations. I don't think if it's 2014's getting in, you know, because it kind of doesn't matter. But now we're eliminating teams. You're 100% right. And so I'm with you on both of those, particularly that ACC game. Because it is all about who's going to play Miami. I mean, we think we know that they fix our top breaker. Yeah, we thought that a year ago too. But yeah, it is all about who's going to play Miami. And it's um, but at this point, yeah, they're again this week three. But I feel like we're already eliminating teams from, you know, their ability to get to a title game. And both those, both those games, the Texas Tech fascinates me. I just because of everything. We kind of lane kiffens kind of given them a pass. Yeah, they are. And they're not going to bother them. And it was funny sitting in lane's office in Baton Rouge. And we were just kind of having a conversation. He's like, why do you think, you know, this has become as big of a deal as it is.

16:37And I go, because this is bringing swords. We, but it's happening the week of the first game. And it's him. Of course, but just imagine, imagine if the swords we think went down on August the 24th. Yeah. And that's kind of where we were with all that. But yeah, but people kind of forgot about that with Texas Tech. And the reality is they think they have the ability to. And by the way, we're talking about three, three Texas schools with a lot of money. And, and there they are with the chance, you know, between between Houston Tech and SMU. Let me ask you a question just on the, on Texas real quick, for I let you go. All the stuff that went down this week, after what was an amazing game, the Sarkeesian thing, the archmaning thing, the guy who put the picture of the students up and made a political comment, it feels like along with the WMBA, that college football has become a sounding board for people to use it for issues way beyond the sport. I kind of know why that happens with the WMBA. Why do you think it happens so much with college football?

17:39I don't know. And it certainly happened more lately. I keep bringing my dad up. I had lunch with him today. We were talking about the fact that this is kind of not fun right now. And even the moments that we're enjoying are almost immediately being torn down. We've all been waiting on archmaning to finally, you know, materialize in front of our eyes. He did it on Saturday night. And by the time we got to lunchtime, you know, weekday, he kind of ruined all that. And so it's just, it's, it is a challenge for me personally right now. And it might be the reason I'm not staying for the game, honestly, Saturday night. Is that I'm having a hard time balancing the fun on Saturday with all that crap. I understand that, but I would say, okay, so like the politician there in Texas that took the picture of the students and he then made a political statement. It's easy to focus on that. But then I would say, go look at that picture and see the joy on those kids face.

18:39I just said, but then I'll see that, right? They're job, they're job. I wrote, I wrote this on Saturday, man, for S.C. Nation. We, we, I wrote a thing about 9-11. And what I wrote was I said, man, there are so many people out there who literally they're only job. And you're, and you're way more involved in this than I am because you get, you get wasted up in the politics. And I just refuse to do it. But there are a lot of people that I wrote this column after the IndyCar race at Washington, D.C. Hey, for a couple hours in Washington, D.C. we actually had a good time. Yeah. And, and, and, and, and literally the people trying to keep us from being getting along and the people trying to keep us from having a good time or the ones working in the building that was the backdrop for the race. And that's kind of how I feel about it. Like there's so many people working so hard like that guy to take what's a beautiful play picture and a beautiful moment in a great, you know, and that's dragged these damn kids into it. In hell, I just, but we also have to not let them do it. And what I know, I know. And that's why I'm just kind of trying to tune all that out. Yeah, I'm not gonna let y'all, I'm not gonna let you guys make me feel bad about the sport that my entire life has revolved around.

19:45I agree. I was something I go do it. I sat there in the first quarter of Kentucky, Alabama in Lexington. And when they got that pick six to start the game, the Kentucky deep, that was what it's about. That feeling we can't lose that. Ryan, thank you very much. Great stuff. You're the best buddy. Thanks. 24:52Most important question before I go to the college who want to help you. Okay. So, you have Christmas stockings hanging in the background. It is September. I've never got around to take them down. I like to year round festive. Like, I'm a year round Christmas person. So, you keep stockings hanging on your ledge all year. You happen like a little Santa. I'm like a Santa snowball. I keep that around. Yeah. You have to be the only person in America that keeps their stockings hung by the chimney with care all year long. I grew up with older people who would do their Christmas shopping right after Christmas. Like, it was always just kind of a year round thing. So, yeah, maybe I should have taken them down. But that's the least of my worries at this point. Why did they do their ship craft Christmas shopping right after Christmas? Best deals. So, my aunts and uncles would shop a year before Christmas. They would shop for the next year for the following year. They would have your gift by the end of, you know, my new years.

25:56What if you grew and figured out? Do you think that philosophy is part of why you don't have internet? It might be. Maybe I'm using like an old school system. I don't know. I don't know what's going on, man. Alright, we got to go ahead. Well, you know, the transfer everything from my office to here. I don't have a bag. So, I asked someone, I was like, do you have a bag I can borrow? Were you walking down the street with a trash bag? So, you had your ESPN equipment in the trash bag? I had nothing else. They were like, all I have is a trash bag. Can you take it? I was like, you know what? If that's all you got, please give me a trash bag. So, I looked like I just been put out. Like, maybe someone, I got into a situation now. I can't live at home anymore. Because I'm walking to my car with a plastic bag full of stuff. People would give me some interesting looks. I have a friend who's in the attorney and he represents clients who are potentially being evicted.

26:59And one time, he lost his briefcase and he had all the files in his car and he needed to walk inside. And it was too many for him to carry. The only thing he had were grocery bags. So, he put all of his legal files in grocery bags. And when he walked in, you know, all this clients who are about to get evicted are sitting there. And they see him walk in with grocery bag files. Not a good look. And they looked at him like, are you kidding me? This is the guy I have. Grocery bag lawyer is right. Somebody in Minnesota right now who's like, hey, Matt and Myron and one of the hosts was carrying a trash bag full of equipment. And then I'm like, what's going on? I love it. Willie is in Memphis. Perfect guy. Here we go. Willie, go ahead. Not today, Willie. Willie, not today, man. That's what Zachary and I put my Myron fire one with the cheap bag with the dial-up service. That's part of the problem. Get him, hold him.

28:00And on that phone, you sound like you're on a CB. I'm waiting for you to say, this is rubber ducky. I'm out. Willie, I don't have dial-up in it. Okay. I had what I, they told me it was the best internet. You can't say something positive for once, man. After the day I've had Willie. Well, if you start trying to be cheap, chop down to be cheap and going through dance internet, you know, you can get one of the brand names. Stop trying to do that, Matt and Matt, internet service. You can't do that. That's right. Thank you, Willie. Big Mike in Indiana. Big Mike. Hey, Molly. Hey. I don't know how to feel your pain, but there's nothing worse than not having internet. Josh Allen was talking to the press earlier this week and he got afraid of a spider. That distance is he can feel the vibe of the players. He can see the energy. See how guys are feeling.
