FULLTANK 3083: The Most Dangerous Blindness Is Thinking You Can See

About this episode

The most dangerous blindness is the kind that insists, “I can see.” Your greatest enemy isn't always your sin—it's your blind spot. When you bring your secrets into the light and invite trusted friends to tell you what you can't see about yourself, you trade the prison of pride for the freedom of authenticity.

Your greatest enemy is your blind spot. In psychology they call it the Johari window. It has four useful quadrants. Quadrant one is stuff about you that you and other people know. It's open knowledge. For example, I'm a preacher. I know that, you know that. I'm a writer. I know that, you probably know that. I'm good looking. I know that. And, well, never mind. Quadrant two secrets. Stuff about me that only I know. And other people don't. Now, if your secret is a sin, you know it and other people don't. I will recommend that you confess it. If you're Catholic, go to the priest and receive the sacrament of reconciliation. If you're not Catholic, go to a small group of friends, an inner circle. Some people that you can trust. Sin in the dark multiplies. But if you expose it to the light, it shrinks and shrivels up.

Quadrant three. It's stuff about you that you do not know, but other people know. They are called blind spots. The solution is to go to your trusted friends and ask them, what are my blind spots? What do you see about me that I don't? I'll give you an example. Early on in my marriage, my wife straight away told me, both your weakness is you do not confront people. Somebody needs to be confronted, but you don't do it. I kind of like knew this already. So maybe it's not a blind spot. But there were times when I would just deny that I would have this weakness. So I needed my wife to tell me that. Quadrant number four is the stuff about you that you and other people do not know. Only God knows. Jesus says that if you exalt yourself, you will be humbled.

But if you humble yourself, you will be exalted. You will be lifted up. I'm praying that God will raise you up as you humble yourself. I admit your weaknesses. I admit that you're trying to hide. Go to God and say, Lord, release me. I want to be authentic. And that connects so beautifully to our gospel. In John chapter 9, Jesus heals a man born blind. But the shocker of the story is not physical blindness. It is the spiritual blindness of the religious leaders. They see a miracle and refuse to see it as God's work. Instead, they interrogate. They accuse. They manipulate. They threaten. Because the miracle does not fit their box. And at the end, they say, surely we are not blind. Are we? That's the problem. The most dangerous blindness is the kind that insists. I can see. The moment you think you have no blind spots.

You stop growing. You stop listening. You stop repenting. You stop changing. Humility is vision. Humility says, maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I do have blind spots. Lord, show me. And when you pray like that, God is there. And He will bless you. And He will heal you. So here's my invitation today. If you want healing, don't just ask God to fix your situation. Ask God now to reveal your blind spots. Bring your secrets into the light. Ask trusted people for honest feedback. And surrender your mystery to the Lord. God can heal what you admit. Here's our big question for today. And yes, please share your answer in the comments below. What one small step can you take this week to walk in the light? Is it to ask feedback from someone close to you?

Can you help me? Where do I need to improve? What's my blind spot? Or is it maybe to go to confession? Go to a priest? Receive the sacrament of reconciliation? Is it going to a small group of friends and to become more vulnerable to them? And asking for prayer? Write it down. Before we pray, can I invite parents? If you want your kids to grow in character, humility, and wisdom, not just academic, I invite you to be curious about homeschooling. And I invite you to visit our Facebook page, CFA Homeschool. My wife and I, we homeschooled our two boys, and it has been such a blessing. And we'd love to share that journey with you. Messages in our Facebook page, CFA Homeschool, when our next orientation will be. Come, let us pray. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Lord Jesus, I humble myself before you. Lord, open my eyes to see what I cannot see. My blind spots, my weaknesses, my stubbornness, my selfishness, my wrong motives, my secret sins, my hidden wounds, my fears.

Lord, give me the courage to bring out whatever is hidden into the life, helping to be more authentic in our relationship. In Jesus' name we pray, amen, and amen. Once again, parents, to know more about homeschooling, visit our Facebook page, CFA Homeschool. Who knows, it might be the blessing you need for your family and for your children.
