Yeah, yeah, and like What it's always amazing with those court cases just how much they dig into someone's past then you realize just you know Just how many other attempts they could have been allegedly and all the rest of it But there's been a big update with Aaron Patterson. She is behind bars now in Australia and There's a huge story in Australia news, which kind of started sort of Circulating maybe last this this afternoon last night. Here's a little clip of the of the news from Oz with what she's up to As of recent weeks the deadly mushroom cork is confirmed to be receiving the EZM pick jab Costing $134 a month

4:14Patterson has admitted to a history of binge eating and is now locked away in solitary confinement Where she's reportedly unable to exercise so the reason it's it's create I mean people can have with over years in but do it do whatever you want. That's the problem isn't that The problem or the interesting angle of this particular story is that it's obviously paid for by the taxpayer Because she is behind bars for killing people and is getting the jab funded by the taxpayer So is that been confirmed is she's getting it? She's getting it. No, no she is getting it And it is paid for by the taxpayer and someone's found out and also people in Australia are finding out it's cheaper to get it in jail There's an idea great So great lose weight go to jail have a whole lot of and all that It's also uncovered another new story with the fact that you know they have that canteen in jail Where you can earn the right to like get credit or you can get credit transfers or something like that and then you can buy Snacks so the snacks are heavily

5:16That they reduced in price their subsidized up so I was basically because they can't afford them at real person prices So you could buy a Mars bar in jail and it will cost you a dollar whereas in the outside world it'll cost you $2 Yeah, it's a pretty extreme way to save a dollar fifty dollars And if you're gonna go to the slammer to get it I'd rather just go to the dairy Not risking I wonder if those impacts cheaper or it gosh sounds like the cost of living crisis in jail Just isn't one of those on the outside world But I wonder if it actually works out cheaper in the long run her being on O's in but because you'll be eating less prison food True, I just think interesting. She's not a little workout. I thought you've run got the chance to Potentially do something is she is she in solitary that's there that that a reporter said she was in solitary confinement Okay, yeah, well, so I bet that's yeah, I would have thought that's a basic human right to be able to exercise It is a tough one though like I mean, you know, I mean I would probably have an issue with that if it was a New Zealand jail Because it costs believe it or not a hundred thousand dollars per person to keep someone in jail in this country

6:19I'm not sure I guess it'd be similar in Australia Hundred grand a year and then if you find out they're actually getting you know $124 on top of that for an hour and that's yeah, and that's again That is that's a bit price is substituted down. That's not yeah, that's not the That's not the full price the full price is a lot more than that So it actually will be at a much larger cost because would you would you care about that happening here? Yeah, I would same I think it'd be a bit rich But like I say, you know, you're risking getting served every day. So I suppose weightless drug Small small one, but also is there something about the fact that she's not really ever gonna be able to get out of there Oh, should we have to get this you can get out in 20 years. She'll be slim as a 20 She'll be so long she in for it. She'll be out in that she'll be out in 15 guarantee it you reckon Yeah, she'll be on the cat for 13 for that for that many people I'm looking this up. Sorry Out in 15 years. Yeah, 15. It is there's a real tricky one then super quick just around the room on the prison thing then so what do you mind? well I was yeah like is that something that the taxpayer should fund yes or no Lana no Speedy I would say no, but I'm not gonna if it happened I'm not gonna like get my neck is in too much of a twist about you know saying in jail you're saying in general No in jail no No, and you're saying no yeah, and I'm saying no everybody seemed Encapsulated with this story because it was such a freaky kind of a thing and did she didn't she if she didn't then what a horrible accusation

8:24Etc. So she's gone to jail she'd been convicted of it. So she's getting a zempick in jail To cost I think you said $120 a week. Yeah, it's um it subsidized Through the government so it is it is cheaper, but people are still paying for it right that's why she's yeah Yeah, and there are a couple of text messages backing that up well Yeah, the vast majority say no she shouldn't but then this text from Benjamin is Fear and thoughtful Benjamins said yes She should get it paid for the taxpayer but only because the cost of health care for someone with obesity Will be far more to the taxpayer and that's and that is the very reason that people argue Yeah, the likes of his empire can work over should be introduced free of charge in New Zealand Where I worry about it. I know you're the same where I worry about it The people who genuinely need to help with what need help with weight loss They work hard might have kids at home, you know big mortgage and And you're an innocent person trying to live you have hard working and you can't afford it. Yeah, that's going in jail

9:28You can get it for that price and it's paid for by the taxpayer and that is gaulling and Michelle says that very things She's absolutely not I pay nearly 550 bucks a month what the actual And and there's a few like that and this one says guys funding as impact might turn out to be the cheaper option for health related care Compared to the co-morbidities that can come with it for some people IE diabetes cardiac issues restetrician Yeah diabetes would cost as well. She's in there I suppose well diabetes They say it's gonna be the biggest killer in this country throughout Australasia actually in the next five years than anything else So that's why people are right but still in saying that I I take your point learn the taxpayer and the jail thing it's The optics as they say it's not good. It doesn't feel right or fear sign Lana We've been sort of thinking and planning and scheming and dreaming about the strip for a while So yesterday was confirmed that Lana and I gonna do the show from the UK. I've never been before that's not already a bit of I've never been there I'm exceptionally poorly traveled for a person my age because I've always been working so

11:30They're quite sort of far-reaching expectations Simon Even with the media party. I'm sure not impossible. Oh, I love you style, darling So do how does it how does this all come together now with you guys what happens? Well, so we have the phases of travel the cycle of travel right is the dreaming phase and then there's the planning and booking phase Which we'll get to pretty shortly the go phase where you know you get there Go phase on your flights you go and you get there to the UK and then there's the sharing phase Where you're you know she your photos and videos with family and friends you punish everybody with all the Yeah, they can enjoy the excitement with you as well So this is very good because as I say I've done very little travel Lana's quite experienced We went to Korea for a Tom Cruise interview and I very really I nearly this is not made up, darling I nearly missed the plane poor Lana was beside herself. She was apoplectic I didn't turn up then I left my tuxedo at the airport back at customers never taken in uber

12:32So we hit the download the uber at wall in Korea It was just there was a lot of things that I'm glad we did that trip because now it means for something on a much larger grander scale You know you stop by imagine halfway or in a flight and you've got to sort yourself out and get to a new gates These are all the areas where I'm traveling with someone that's high risk And I suppose you deal with that quite a bit for people coming in we do Yes, we have travelers across the spectrum And I'm sitting here across two people that might be at either end of the spectrum So I know that yes if things are going to go wrong perhaps they'll go wrong for you Yeah, for Lana you're From what I understand a plane spot up So you're familiar with airports and that sort of thing But we will make sure that your arrangements are as seamless as possible And we'll try and mitigate any risk for things to go wrong so I'm not So you're a travel I heard you're like some countries you've got to be very careful of you know Pickpocketing you know if you've got a Rolex on your wrist which I don't have but they can yeah Somebody might take your wrist off to get you watch is there anything though?

13:32I need to be wary of with Lana in terms of that sort of thing With me. I'll take the Rolex Put your Rolex and Lana's pocket This should I be wary of pickpocketers what happens absolutely. I think globally Anywhere there's a concentration of people In this it is it's it's important to be mindful of where your positions are and keep them safe And just be aware of your surroundings and those sorts of things But in most cases it's just pickpocketing is what they're after. It's not your personal safety That's at risk, right, but yes, it's it's smart to keep your valuables safe and close Fascinating how all these logistics work and how you are able to deal with time zones and different bookings and different places I'm so glad you guys are on board because I just don't know how I asked this would Lana wore a fanny pack when we were in career and they're embarrassing to me. She looked like my auntie now Where do I keep my cash? They were huge in the 80s

14:34They're not quite a fashion item now She had one down on either so where do we keep that cap? Yeah look so the first thing is my advice is only take as much cash on you as you're Prepared to lose so the first thing or really small amounts have cash That are concealed but otherwise leave cash Byelage in your hotel room and in your safe. Yeah, so yeah the the lesseners take as much cash on you as you're prepared to lose And else there are some um bum bags if you will that actually have the anti pay waif thing too Darwin where they don't let anyone try and steal money with their card readers really just in case you are considering that style again I'm not okay. I'm not do we need a visa like I don't even know. Do we you've got a hard so for New Zealand passport holders traveling to the United Kingdom It's an ETA which is an electronic travel authority So we'll work with you just to make sure that that's in place Right, but that's required before we can so you know and where we stay is it expensive accommodation What's that big fancy hotel like oh the boy? Yeah, the Savoy

15:38Actually, we were looking at when we'll talk about that together just to make sure that we've got the right The right type of accommodation In the right We've got strict criteria that was He's said upon us so so we'll work with and let lean budget To ensure that we've got something that's in the right location the right place and it's going to be comfortable for you The actually we were looking at the moment is not too far from the Savoy Okay, but it's not the Savoy So this is viewing so like what's the Savoy cost for a night if I if we Is the Savoy someone help me out here is it's a big five seven eight nine star? I've seen this in the movies. There's a voice like one of the most iconic It's a prestigious hotel and I think if you book well and advance on a non-refundable rate You might get it for somewhere around two and a half thousand dollars And night yeah, yeah, they're on on the base rates. Yeah, and that's really It's booking in advance. I leave in months on advance Lana here So if we rocked up and said what's your room rate for tonight? Yeah

16:40It could be anywhere up to five to seven thousand dollars a night. Yeah I reckon buster right now. We love in this chat Helping with the New Zealand dollar and the stretch of the change with the pound at the moment Okay, so you take the details in terms of what we want to do and then you go you I guess you take that all the way and you make you build an itinerary of sorts and then we just keep talking to you That's right. Yeah, so we have a conversation and so we work with you with the requirements that you have and we build The framework which is your flights to and from and the accommodation and then we go to the next phase and it's like What are we going to do the real exciting stuff? What are we going to see how we're going to enjoy the UK? Exciting the last thing before we let you go because I know we're going to have another check with you down the track But if I were to get arrested for padding one of the Royal Palace horses Do you have you ever dealt with that a customer that's booked with you and then they get in trouble? Fortunately most of our customers at House of Traveler well behaved so I'm But I do understand that it's not actually illegal to pat the Guardsman's horses

Okay So fascinating story and it kind of does affect everybody in some small way There used to be this just this common rule of thumb and expectation that you know Women would get pregnant have children. That's what we did right So a story I was reading yesterday said that that's just not the case in 2013 The birth rate was about 2.01 births per woman

18:46So you know two per woman right and that was in 2013 now just 13 years later It's dropped to just below 1.5 And so like that's a That's what happened to me You're half a kid Now you might go well, what's the problem with that because that's what I do and we're not alone So apart from some eastern nations the world career Germany the US Are many places this this reduction in birth rate is actually causing real problems because if you think about it What happens if if the over 65s Considerably at number the 15 to 20 year olds then where does the money come from for the tax Where does the workforce come from and so there's this guy I've actually interviewed him once his name is Paul Spoonley He's a professor in Demography so he studies this stuff and I said to him well So what's the problem they poor basically if there's fewer people the planet's gonna be better and it not much pressure on the planet Well, and he said so what happens with the workforce Simon? So if there's nobody in New Zealand to work we have to poach from other countries you'll tend to poach from poorer countries

19:50What happens those poorer countries now hang on? Go on this might be a this could be dumb. Yeah, but I'm just this is a safe space. Why's not really going This is famously a safe space Please But aren't there more people having babies Then You know what I mean like so you say at one woman short Having 1.5 now versus 12 13 years ago having two yeah, but aren't there more women having 1.5 baby. Oh, I see what you're saying well yet well no and that's like yeah I actually get your point that you said like the triangle Yeah, and it's not the case because so there are some prolific breeders your kids Yeah For the world population They've taken as a personal responsibility to repopulate the world Yeah, all right guys we can share the line

20:50But men and that's what this girl is about many are actually choosing just not to have children So the other thing of course fewer people are having children means pension costs are going to go through the roof so countries paying for the for the elderly is huge And health care costs associated so all these aged related illnesses You know, it's just cost a country of fortune. There's not going to be people to pay for them But you know the main reason that families and mums are choosing not to have children. What's the number one reason? There's a whole bunch of reasons But one of the main reasons they cite and I'm quoting from this story is that Many said they don't want to bring children into this world Because they see that this world has just a plethora of problems. I have heard of people Saying that I haven't it's a very real thing I think men and women care about the direction the world's going in Yeah, but there's also that thing of what can you What can you do about it in your corner of the world necessarily? You know what I mean like I get it

21:50Adding to pressure. I've heard from people who um and This to me is crazy, but I guess I might see any friends got their reasons. I've heard of people who are scared of the environment Well, I think that's like the environment to suffer or something that's cited in here. Yeah in this story So what you give us a call because it's just like there's obviously no judgment in this It's just a really interesting discussion I've got two members of my own family wider family who have chosen not to have children two years old married and just said no, we just don't want them some is purely they just go I'm in fact, I met a guy the other day at having a woman believe it or not He said no, we just we just chose not to have kids was a fascinating chat He said we just wanted to travel we want to do our own thing Yeah, and that was 10 years ago that you'd very really hear that I sometimes wonder too There is still very much a huge stress about career For women leaving the workforce and having kids and you know roll your eyes as much as you like It is really hard to be of that age where people would expect you to have kids

22:54And then you try and convince them that that's not in your place You want to feel you have to say exactly because they sort of they can't ask But often the questions are angled around are we going to lose it for an entire year or two or three And not have her back and high we might as well hire someone different And so you feel like you can't leave to go and have a kid Yeah, because you may never get back into the workforce again It's a very very real Stress when it comes to females deciding whether they want to take maternity leave or not Well remember the famous Mark Richardson just under our Absolutely So very interesting story that women are choosing in big numbers not to have Children women and their patents Choosing not to have children and it's a real problem around the world So why is it and from this story A lot was saying they don't want to bring a child into this quote-unquote world with all its mess That's the thing there's a lovely text from Christina Lannes She says just this it's very simplistic but it's really true for her obviously She says hi so I'm Lannes look I love kids but I also love my sleep time and money

23:58Derek said hey guys this is a part of a worldwide trend where highly intelligent people are making this decision Which is fear he says my son and wife are intending To to be this way as well not have not have children which is interesting But there are a number of different reasons that are coming through yes a fear of the world But also a fear of being an income short Yeah to be honest when you don't know how expensive things are going to rise to and losing an entire income for a good chunk of time Then he coming back part time or something it's scary Well, that's exactly right and and there's a text here from a bloke and he says hi guys my beautiful partner And I have three amazing kids, but it has completely decimated her career and she's had the start again each time Totally your point yeah hey jules Morning how are you? So now you've got children's that right No, so me and my partner are planning to have our first kids our next year Right and you were you always that were thinking or did you not want children?

25:02So I wasn't I didn't really want kids because for the fact of bringing them into this world Like with the way it's going with the way like technology's going like how advanced it'll be in 20 30 years When I met my partner six years ago Obviously a couple years into it. We had that chat of the you want kids He really wanted a family and so we kind of thought about it over the last few years And I have sort of gone into that sort of if you want a family You just got to do it regardless of the world. You can't help Yeah, that's right. Yeah, helping going so you just if you want to be happy you just got to do it So we're planning to have our first child next year Yeah, congratulations. It's interesting you say that because when I met in the past people I'd never say it now But I used to say my old hairdresser Carl Watkins doesn't have children and he said We just I was getting a haircut and he said that to you said I don't have any kids No, when I think back I was probably rude because I said what why was you know I have kids what about when you're old Carl? Yeah, and you know and you just you know you want that family

26:07And he was like no and he's never had kids to this day Yeah, a lot of people don't just it's just not the thing For them but good to know Jules that you can be that way of thinking and then you know Have someone that you love and care about and you want them to also get what they want and you've actually both sounds but you've met in the middle Jules, thank you for sharing your thoughts. This is an interesting text because I've heard of this. It's quite firm Hi Simon and Nana the world is already over populated and every possible reason to have biological children is narcissistic and selfish I'm saying every reason for somebody wanting to have children is narcissistic and selfish If you want truly to be apparent for unselfish reasons that don't include legacy or bloodline Adopt give a pre-existing child Yeah, look I don't know about that I don't know everyone's entitled throughout opinion, but people also say that when you get a cat Why don't you adopt? Oh, well, I just got yeah, you know, it's if you want a child That equally needs to be okay as well as if you don't want a child

27:11I think everyone just live their life and be happy and up the walls yeah Because to that text again absolutely entitled to opinion we had four children And I couldn't have imagined my life without them particularly with them You never know what life is going to bring you now they can be a pain Yes, I'm never a pain to them of course. Yeah, but I would not I just couldn't breathe without those girls I didn't think I yeah, I've had a I've had a very complicated Journey with kids. I can't have kids for medical reasons and it's been a big thing to get through And so I feel for anybody that's going through that hearing this who desperately want children My heart goes out too absolutely, but I think until you have one or a child in your life that close It's really hard to imagine what your life would have been like without them You know, you actually put a name to it because at the moment you think of kids you think of anyone's kid This would be your kid. Oh, yeah, and they're just a lot I don't know it's just but again different strokes for different folks, but for me couldn't imagine

28:15One text I want to read because it's indicative of minutes is high-star Lanna I see a major problem here with having children as child care is so expensive like I pay four hundred bucks a week I can't afford to have two in daycare, which is why we only have one child and I think that's really true Yep, that's really true The Breakfast Club podcast I can dye a happy chick. 31:18So there she was Isabella my daughter lined up at new world and she came over for dinner last night at the time of the story which was just gorgeous So first thing she noticed was the woman in front of her checkout had a big deep trolley when I was big deep trolley And she so Bella said she immediately thought oh that woman must be rich and I said why? No she's got a big family That's what she said to my girls think if you've got a big deep trolley that somehow means you're rich Because I suppose I think you can fill it up Yeah maybe she's sensible with her shopping No yeah but Bella always goes you know if you pour and you got a big morgge like she has You just have a shallow trolley because she's kind of fooled any more than that So she first thought deep trolley like he's rich just carrying on a Carrying on a merry way and then she hears the checkout woman say to the customer with the deep trolley Um that's $580 do you want your smig stickers? And she said no And then they said what would you like me to do with them?

32:20So I'm just giving the person behind me wow Bella was the person behind and she said she nearly hit the floor $580 worth of smig stickers She should go straight to get the block baby How about that? That is pretty is it $20 sticker on $30? Oh you're asking the wrong what was she? Yeah she's an ocean girl Yeah actually work that out because I didn't do that But Bella then she got on the group chat with the girls and she's 20 Yeah so what would that be?
