Lana went on a spooky historic ghost tour

0:00The breakfast club on Mori Theme, want more? Okay. You know, I'm kind of into a little bit of freaky stuff, but do I actually believe in paranormal activity? I don't know yet. But this particular ghost tour was at a old homestead. It had a lot of history. And it was based around a woman by the name of Jane Deans, who was one of the first settlers in New Zealand. And it talked a lot. It reminded me a lot of Lanark Castle, the stories. You know, some of these early settler families had a lot of grief, like in terms of who died. Yeah. Remember Mr. Lanark? Like his daughter's world just dropped in dead left right in centre? The Lanark, Mr. Lanark from Lanark Castle, is a tragedy and it's scary. We had to go stay there a couple of years ago. I wouldn't have thought I'd freaked out that place. So last night, the story of Jane Deans, to cut a long story short, pretty much everyone was dying around her. And she finally got here from Scotland. Her husband called for her. She said, I'm not coming unless you come pick me up. And he'd just got here.

1:01So he had to go back on the boat, three months back over. Well, pick me up from Scotland. And we're up. Not back. So here's how it worked. No, actually, yeah. Good point, Spenny, because my jaw hit the floor when I heard this stat. So basically, he comes over. I forget his name. He comes over with his brother. Right? They set up shop over here. This is before, like, I think it's the same year that Treaty was signed. So we're talking very, very early. 1840. Yep, they set up shop here. And then he, after a while, thanks gosh, I've set up enough here. I miss my sweet heart. And he'd given her some gloves, which basically means he begs, he begs to. But he wanted to set himself up over here first in the colonies. So then what he did? If he gives someone gloves, if he begs them. Yeah, back then, yeah. So she was basically waiting. But maybe he couldn't just pick her a text, could he? It's not. I've arrived. And then the back. He takes you for a pick-up from Edinburgh. So you said, yeah. Did they even do telegrams back then? Well, no, may I along the ship? Oh, yeah. But the ship would take three months. So basically, he then got here, right?

2:02It's like New Zealand post. We're going back to those ways. So he gets, Joker gets to New Zealand, starts to set place up. Then he realises, I miss her. I'm going to send her a letter. And then that goes over there. That takes three months to get there. She then sits on the letter for about a month before she decides. Then her letter gets sent back, right? So that's all up. That's about seven or eight months. He gets an answer, yes. But you need to come. So then he sends a letter back, which takes another three months to say, OK, I will come at this time. She thinks, well, the gloves would be starting to wear. Oh, I'm trying to. Then she uses another letter. OK, cool. So then he boaks his passage over, picks her up, brings her back. She's on the ship. She's pregnant when she's coming with her way back to New Zealand. She comes from this very wealthy family in Scotland. And then guess what happens? He dies 18 months in. And she stuck here with a baby and a whole lot of swamp. What the hell? They know. So I should have gone on more about the ghost tour, but the story was just bad.

3:03No, that's a great story. I vaguely recall being at Dean's house and hearing that story and thinking, what a terrible tragedy when he pop his clogs up. Man, that poor woman. And then I think the brother died, and then heaps for kids died around her. And then their husbands went, so there's a lot going on. So when we were on this tour, the woman that was running the tour, we walk into one room. There's 40 rooms in this house. We walk into this room, and she just, all of a sudden, goes, did you feel that? Oh, so she's sewing, seriously. But then I had to be on it. I said, no. No, good on you for being honest. The air conditioning changed. And then someone. 22 dry. Yeah. Then a poor lady who listens to the show, a lady was a little bit startled, and she lent back. And what does that do? Turns off the light switch. And that set the woman, the guy, just grew up. LAUGHTER No! And she's the guy. You're the guide. How? We were supposed to get out of here.

4:03Then the attic and then someone else lent him another old light switch. So it was a bit of a scene, but it was actually very interesting. The stuff they went through back then. Derek and that's part of the... I reckon that's part of it. They must jack up something. For sure. Yeah. Well, it wasn't quite like Spokas. You didn't just suddenly have this person chasing up the stairs with a chainsaw, but it was still like... Yeah, no! She didn't jack that. They would have said to somebody, hey, you lent them a light switch. And they've turned off the sensors. The alarm sensors, because there's so much activity. Over night. In this room. And I say, well, our camera's gone for it. I'm not suddenly thinking Jane Deans is not going to remember what. She's been... She's got enough people to visit in heaven. Now, if the gloves started flying through the room by the cell... Hey! Who would do that for me? That's it. That's it. That's a great story, though. Sceptic tanks sorted.
