THAT'S SLIGHTLY INTERESTING: the monkey that took out Kenya's power

About this episode

Speedy brought us the story of a monkey named Sparky who tripped a transformer and knocked out electricity for millions of people in Kenya. The best part is the little guy actually survived the whole ordeal.

This is a podcast from Rover That slightly interesting right now The phones went nuts with people wanting to judge speedy for obvious reasons. Let's go to the white car to hello Joe Hey, hey, yeah, we are great. Thank you. Congratulations for getting through on the phones I am so excited Right speedy now do your best to impress Joe. She sounds lovely We don't want to disappoint her. Hopefully this is a bit of a motivational story for Friday heading into the weekend You know not many hours left of work crew we can do this if we band together come with me to the continent of Africa And to the great land of Kenya where we meet a monkey who doesn't actually have a name, but I'm calling him Sparky Sparky the monkey was sort of just milling about the trees as he does when he saw a building in the fire off reaches and he thought Any climbed over to the oh my gosh to this particular building where he jumped over one electric fence

Jumped over another electric fence and then thought this place looks great. How fun. What is this amazing amazing new destination? I found he then jumped over a third fence, but this time he accidentally landed on an electrical transformer Oh Curious George Sparky was electrocuted at a power station in Kenya, which then took power for the entirety of the country out for four hours From the whole country of Kenya. Yeah, he must have jumped in the big mama transformer Did he now when this happened a lot of Kenya didn't actually have power? So it only affected like five million people, but that was a significant portion. Yeah, so poor old Sparky there he was Down and out for the camp, yeah, powered been out for four hours This we monkey had taken down the entire electrical grid of Kenya The guys come in what the heck's going on in here?

How do we lose power? What's going on with that monkey wait? Hang on a minute Is there a sign of life I see Sparky rises From the grid what and still survives Sparky single-handedly cuts off power for an entire country and says I'm not done with this here life I'm marching on out of this place He was then saved by a society that risked animals throughout Kenya where he spent the rest of his days Yes, so then die of natural causes later on But that didn't stop him and a Friday shouldn't stop you I'm speedy and that was my slightly interesting for the fifth day in a row I wish you make it six years ago That is too funny Joe are you still there? I'm still there. I didn't like the monkey impression

I'm a story you love the story Thank you for being so patient through that story Now at the end of the day It really is just a power out of story Not no, it's a story of survival Thank you, Lana, you get you get it Lana. It really is just a power out of story You'd be like this. It's really just a tree down over the lines When North power knocked that entire Pylon up north of Auckland that time remember and wiped out the entire region for a day That's a power that this is a monkey surviving a massive national Lots of monkey surprises you've never seen a tree get back up No, yeah, that's right. Got him Well sort of Look the reality is the story itself was pretty ordinary but the delivery Was exceptional just remember Simon that you if you vote me down you'll be tarnishing sparky's legacy

Lots of people have actually been let's good and come back from the dead Lana lots of people and our people not What we're talking about no, I'm still listen. I'm still voting. Okay I'll pay for it Married so yesterday but based on not the story the delivery honestly thinking you threw you back into that and I was Captivated in the way you told the story not the story itself. Yeah, so was I to be honest So I think that's for you Simon. I will take that He's back from the dead Rover music radio podcasts
