Dr. Sara Erdner, CMPC | Dear Coach

What began as a passion project during PhD research on the coach-athlete relationship quickly evolved into something more. It became evident that most popular-press books prioritize the coach’s voice when discussing best coaching practices, while the athlete’s perspective is largely absent. As athletes’ lived experiences were collected for a dissertation, it became clear that these stories needed to be shared beyond academic publications—where only a limited audience would have access to them. This realization led to the creation of Dear Coach, What I Wish I Could Have Told You: Letters from Your Athletes. The goal in promoting the book is to amplify the confidential voices of athletes and spark a larger conversation about necessary changes within the sporting arena. The hope is to share these stories with a wider audience and encourage meaningful dialogue.
