Welcome to the early edge college football picks show brought to you by Bette MGM. Make it legendary. I'm your host Eric Cohen. It is week number two. And we are glad to be joined by the great experts Tom Cassali Emory Hunt Mike McClure to break it all down 40 gentlemen. Lot to talk about this week. Emory you're calling a game on CBS sports now. We're got to point that out early. We got Southern Utah Colorado State 7 PM Eastern on Saturday. Anything you want to say quickly about that game. It's going to be a great game and it's funny because Tom both staff they are very similar in terms of how they play how they attack and you love both secondaries in this ballgame and both quarterbacks. I'll say that should be a fun one. And stay tuned for later in the show because just it's perfect symmetry that Tom Cassali makes a pick on that. That game in the final segment Emory you can't react to that but that's okay. All right let's get to it. Let's talk about a team to buy and a team to sell. We're going to do a non top 10 team to buy and a top 10 team to sell. Emory I'm going to start with you. You're going to buy the USC Trojans. I'm surprised they're still waiting this or at this part of the top 25 like they want to games their brand program. Why is it taking so long for those guys to get into the top 10. And if you why?

Watch how the offense line has played and watch how they've dominated up front in the trenches been impressive and yes the defense has been a bugleball under Lincoln Raleigh but man you got to tip your cap when you're able to get a shot out. That's big things for USC. So I like the way this team looks in the trenches on both sides of the ball and therefore it's time now start buying USC. All right talk about your team to sell. We'll just a team to buy team to sell. Your team to sell in the top 10 is. Washington I feel like the Washington Huskies are a team to sell. Oh it's a top 10 team selling and I see I read that wrong. So if I'm going for a top 10 team to sell it would probably be wow. I would say. Nouradane and the reason why I would say Nouradane is because I love the defense. I love the talent. But I know it's one game that's all we have to go off of but I felt like I want to see more explosiveness on you know the Nouradane side of things because Washington is not ranked in the top 10 I believe.

And so I totally read that wrong. So if I have to pick a team in the top 10 it would probably be Nouradane. They're more defensive heavy than offensive heavy at least after one game. So Tom you and Mike are both selling the same team but I want to talk about your buy first and that is going to be New Mexico. New Mexico Jason act as a phenomenal coach. I think it'll be coaching somewhere else next year. Tell me about them. Do you think they are a future top 25 team. Yes, New Mexico is interesting a couple of years ago my kids asked like what's the toughest place to coach in college football and I actually said New Mexico. You know very facilities aren't great no money. What Jason Eck is doing there is phenomenal. And Mike I know Mike had New Mexico last week and he mentioned that he thought there was a big talent gap between them in Central Michigan. Man you watch that game that was near the close. The score didn't do that game justice. I mean they had way more talent than Central Michigan. And what I liked was you know they get Luke Moga there who the loser starter Jack Lane for the season but Moga is a four star recruit at Oregon if he can be the guy.

This is an interesting team because they got Oklahoma next week and a terrible sandwich spot for Oklahoma. They got them between Michigan and Georgia. I say they're going to win the game but it'll be an interesting betting game perhaps. They lose that. They're going to be favorite probably in every game for the rest of the season. That makes them interesting to me for a team that could sneak in the college football playoff. I actually played them for a few bucks at 15 to one. I think they have a chance to go to the championship game with one loss to Oklahoma. They win that. I think they get in. And your team to sell you and Mike are both sharing Ole Miss you want to just talk about Ole Miss here. Yeah listen I like Ole Miss. I thought the Louisville Ole Miss game was one of the most well played early season games I've ever seen. Just phenomenal football. The only reason I picked Ole Miss you know that we don't have many we don't have much to go by here but I was a little concerned about the defense coming into the season. And I'm still concerned after that Louisville game. I think in the top SEC love Trinidad Chambers. I mean they won that game because they have Trinidad Chambers.

That's what you know and he's going to do that sometimes. But I think at some point maybe the defense catches up to him. Mike so Tom talked about the sandwich spot we have New Mexico Oklahoma next week but you're buying Oklahoma. Yeah I'm buying Oklahoma here guys. Look we know what they can do on the defensive side of the ball. You're five for Brent Vennibles there. I think we all expect them to be one of the best defenses if not the best defense in college football. The question mark comes on the offensive side of the ball. Remember back to a year ago though guys when you look at John Mater we had Heisman talk for a little bit until he got hurt and then he gutted it out and kind of played the rest of the season not quite right in my opinion. I think he's right now though. I think he came out you think he's healthy but more so than anything they return a lot on that offensive line bring in some other pieces as well. I think that offensive line at this point is still underrated. This team to me you know I like cross sport cross league references a lot like the Houston Texans if they could have just been league average offensively the Houston Texans a super bowl threat.

I think the same thing here for the Oklahoma stunners I know the schedule is tough you talk about that sandwich spot. However I think they're going to really really put the clamps on Michigan this week and ultimately push themselves into the top 10. And I think this could be a top five football team this year so I like Oklahoma quite a bit. All right Mike I'm putting you on the spot here your team to fade is is Ole Miss next week LSU at Ole Miss who do you favor as of today. LSU look I was impressed with what Lane was able to do in in game one for LSU I know Clemson is really nothing special at this particular point. However I think Lane's just absolutely locked in and I think motivation will not be a problem is Tom mentioned I like Ole Miss I want them to be good I think Trinidad Chamblis again still a phenomenal quarterback potentially still the best quarterback. The problem is is he's going to have to play hero ball he's going to have to put up a ton of points every single week I think that defense certainly isn't taking a step forward this year I actually think they take a step back from where they were a season ago unfortunately so I will be.

Selling on Ole Miss a team that'll be frisky that'll be exciting but ultimately he's going to have to score 35 plus points every single week to win. And I will be buying the Boise State Broncos tie game eight minutes left at out some stadium last week that's your group of 16 that makes the college football playoff in my opinion. And sorry producer Ben I hope you don't shut off my mic I'm fading the team that I'm selling it's the Indiana Hoosiers. All right the national champions they were outgain by North Texas. It was a two touchdown game going into the fourth quarter and you had Kurt Signetti ran up the score because that's what Kurt Signetti does. I just didn't think they looked all that impressive they're giving up what 360 yards something like that to North Texas I'm sorry your schedule is kind of a joke so probably go 10 and 2 and make the college football playoff just based on that schedule but I'm out on that team. I'm not going anywhere this year just saying that all right let's talk about the game of the early season we got number one Ohio State we got number four Texas over under 49 and a half the line is Texas. Minus two Emory you and I are on the same side talk about the buck eyes on the money line.

Yeah this has always been a map of Trisha versus archmaning game in my opinion so I feel like when we're looking at Texas can arch solve the puzzle of the defense that's going to be the biggest question and if you look at the Ohio State side of things yes there is the author Smith question the play caller. But when you look at their big time while receiver and Jeremiah Smith and what we've seen already from Chris and Rejunior and Julian saying yeah you can have the same questions about saying that you have about archmaning in terms of how they deal with pressure but at the end of the day I do like the defensive match up versus the Texas offense and you can kind of include Sarkey's in this big game situation do you trust him or do you trust Ryan Day that's why all of those things all those factors leave me to believe Ohio State goes to Texas and gets to win. And I'm with the Emory in 15 games with Matt Patricia's defensive coordinator Ohio State yet hasn't given up more than two offensive touchdowns their opponent. Fact only one team scored more than 16 points against the buck eyes that was Miami and the CFP quarter final thanks in part to that awful saying interception that was run back for a defensive touchdown by the hurricanes.

Think about Texas I'm worried about their offensive line take out their two long runs last week there are other 34 carries went for just 90 yards that's under three yards a carry against Texas state. That's not good. Well, I stay replaced a lot on defense but I think they are superior Julian saying Jeremiah Smith get it done Ohio State 27 Texas 17. Now that math leads to the under and I kind of lean under but Tom you disagree with me you're going over in this game. Yeah, my favorite play is Ohio State over 23 and a half only because of that you're under 24 but that number starting to change now. It went to 24 and a half at a couple of books so I didn't want to give that out as my only play. Here's the thing last year you had say and make in his first career start you had archmaning making his first road start it was early in the season. These coaches called that game very conservative. I just don't see the same thing now you mentioned the offensive lines that that's the X factor.

If the offensive lines can block I think the receivers on both teams have edges on the outside especially Ohio State receivers. I still think the weakness of Texas is their defensive backfield. I just think this is a more exciting game and I'm going to be honest with you. I don't have a strong play on the side this feels like back in the old days when I didn't know how to gamble and me and my friends who would just talk about a big game for 30 minutes then just say let's just bet the over and hope for points. That's kind of where I am. I'm going to sit back. I'm going to enjoy the game but with all the offensive talent. I think if one of these coaches comes in and coaches conservative they're going to be in for a long day because I just think there's going to be some more big plays down the field than there was last year. Mike you're going up against Emory and I you're going Texas money line. I mean the favorite it's probably the right side being the home team. Why do you like them? We'll look at you mentioned at the home atmosphere I think is big right. You talk about archmaning playing in that atmosphere and obviously Julian Sand being very young.

I think this is a tough spot for Sand to walk into personally. When I look at the Texas Longhorns here I think just having another year for arch being at home though in prime time. I think it's certainly going to help and benefit that defense and I think that where they have the edges particularly early in the game. If you're watching this live betting I don't think Texas is necessarily rallying to come back though. I think that they've got to really jump out to that early lead and lean on that crowd defensively early which I think they're able to do. I think Ohio State will be a little more conservative in the first quarter of this game. I do kind of agree with Tom and I think we see more fireworks though. I think they certainly will be more aggressive than they were a season ago. As far as Texas here I think this is closer to the must win game for them than Ohio State and you saw this kind of last year. Texas loses this game. They go nine and three and ultimately get left out of the college football playoff. So yes they get a lot of points for playing a tough schedule overall but it's still a closer to must win game than I would put for some of the other

schools. Particularly Texas here. I like the home crowd though. I like that defense still and I think Arch has got just enough particularly with his legs. I think you will put it all on the line here and I think Texas is actually able to stay on the field and possess the football a little bit here. I like the long horns to win. It's a tough game to pick. It really is. I think it's the toughest game to pick all weeks. Disenting opinions but that's just fine on a game of this magnitude. Let's talk about game number two. Michigan who well I mean last week was what it was lucky and I'll ask you about that. Emory number 11 Oklahoma's a five and a half point favorite at Michigan the total is 43 and a half. Emory you're on the sooners but first of all I want to ask you what do you make of the Hail Mary should it have counted or not? It shouldn't have counted but also you still have to knock it down. Right. So I can see both sides of yeah it shouldn't have been another play but you still had a chance to knock it down like whatever you did in the first Hail Mary Tip you could have done it in a second when you essentially left the guy on a concert and made

it just a big long completion. So I do understand that play never should have happened but also mad just knock it down but if I'm Michigan in this game you know you got a fully embraced the villain because nobody in America outside of Ann Arbor wants to see you win like even in the rest of the state nobody wants to see Michigan win this ballgame so I would embrace being a villain I would even come out in all black with the black horns all of that right so just be the villain but that won't help them against Oklahoma because we saw a geometry a healthy geometry Larry his throws show touch show the timing still has a geometry to his game in terms of he can go take out and run he can create above the exit of those I think Oklahoma rolls so I will leave the five and a half points. Mike let's talk about your first half play in this game and it's not encouraging if you're a Michigan fan and like offense. Yeah I mean is Michigan scoring a first half touchdown here? I don't know but I certainly don't think they're kicking four field goals successfully here so I'm

gonna go under nine and a half on this team total in the first half for Michigan. I think that it's gonna be a slow mover we know the defense is elite on the side of Oklahoma. The one bright spot for Michigan is gotta be their defensive unit it certainly is not their offensive unit against this defense and the one thing that's gonna be critical for Michigan in general is to slow this game down or again keep the clock running but slow it down in terms of their tempo. They want to get this game to the fourth quarter as quickly as they possibly can. They're gonna come out with a run heavy attack and try to run on Oklahoma we'll see how how successful it is but I think it's a lower scoring field position battle again I think if Michigan has a chance here it's played a field position battle make material in that offense go 90 yards to beat you I think it's gonna be a low scoring game early particular Michigan side under nine and a half first half team total. Huh about that for the game so Mike's on the the under for Michigan in the first half what do you think they can do in the game? Yeah you know listen I really try not to react to one game I mean you

know back when you're first start embedding it's like the number one rule you learn is every week's different every game's different a couple of things that really though I thought stood out one Michigan's defense couldn't get off the field in that game I mean I know underwood was terrible but that they couldn't get off the field every time underwood through a pass there was three guys around the receiver that tells me that he only looks at one guy and the defense knows it and the number one thing when I work for the New England Patriots the number one thing I learned from that job is whatever we think the players in the locker room knew that a long time ago I'm still you know I got a wonder if those kids in Michigan they got to know that this may be underwood can't play I mean they see it all the time I mean he's not looking anywhere there's a lot there it's a tough game because this is a seven point swing it was one and a half Michigan was one and a half point favorite before last Saturday now there are five and a half point underdog I'm going to go under their 18 and a half points I agree with Mike if Michigan stays in this game I don't see any way

it's a higher scoring game I think it's got to be a 17 13 kind of game I think they know what they have on offense they got a plate conservative I think mature and the sooner's offense have to lose this game so I'll go under 18 and a half on their team total I'm going to align with Mike and Tom's plays I'm going with the I'm personally taking Michigan plus five and a half in this game I like the score to be something like Oklahoma 20 Michigan 16 but Emory I want to ask you his Bryce's underwood in danger of losing his job if he stinks it up this week no because if that was the if it was all about play then Shadour Sanders would be starting in Cleveland so we know it is about money and money dictates dictates you know who starts in any sport so what we're seeing in Cleveland we'll see in Ann Alvar until you know he is in the transfer portal next year Mike your thoughts on my Bryce underwood I mean Kyle Wittingham didn't give him a positive

affirmation we'll say in his press conference this week yeah look it wasn't positive I agree Emory yeah I think he's still going to be playing ultimately I think the good news is no matter what happens at this game they've got UTEP on deck they they could win that game against Iowa and then it's Minnesota like it gets real again when they host Penn State and Indiana but all of those big games this season are home games for them so I I don't see any scenario that he's not the starting quarterback at least through the Indiana game. Backs against the wall got to take Michigan at home with the points that's why I'm doing it pretty much they showed nothing last like that would that you would make you want to take them but the line movement is Tom discussed really important here I think it's an overreaction if it was a three and a half point spread I might think differently but that's why I have 20 to 16 Oklahoma in this game how about game number three number 12 Alabama 10 and a half point favorite

on the road at Kentucky the total is 49 and a half we're all staying away from the total but Emory you and Tom are on Kentucky plus 10 and a half why you taking the Wildcats well it was impressive to me to watch how Kentucky handled I noticed in Zonestown State but that's a very good FCF team FCF team and how they handled both Brungard and quarterback who won the the Walty Payton Award last year which is the FCF's Highestman Trophy because he's a dual threat athlete I felt like you got live game reps versus dual threat quarterback and you're going to face a younger quarterback that has some athletic ability in Keelan Russell this week for Alabama I just feel like that was just great practice for Kentucky and I think they're all offensive to a good job better than what Alabama faced last weekend of moving the football and so I feel like these teams are a lot closer than you know people think I know we're looking at Alabama Kentucky as opposed to the you know the team that's actually out there so I like the Wildcats

to keep this one close I think they may be a sneaky play for an upset Tom I know you like Kentucky plus 10 and a half as well can Kentucky win this game outright in your opinion yeah I mean listen this is more of a projection by me Kentucky was a team I was interested in betting early as an underdog top 15 transfer portal hall there from Will Stein the former offensive coordinator Oregon gets Kenny Minchie quarterback from Notre Dame who you know I know someone at Notre Dame who said like that that him and CJ Car was real close and they said watch out where Minchie goes next year because he could be a real really good quarterback and then he looked at the Alabama side you got Keelan Russell making his first road start and you know people I know people don't like to talk about the offensive line it's not sexy but Alabama is going to be without their top offensive lineman Michael Carroll is out for this game he's the only returning starter from last year Kentucky wants to stunt in blitz they didn't do that last week which makes me think they held everything back for Russell in this game I think they can hang around here we'll see

maybe I'm wrong on Kentucky but I think they're going to be a little bit better than people thought entering the season I'll take the 10 and a half Mike when you see a spread like 10 and a half it kind of gets you like all right wait a second are they begging us to take Kentucky here but you and I are not we're going to take Alabama with the points why do you like the Crimson type yeah look kind of paid to find out I understand Kentucky they have a great transfer portal class there's no doubting that the quarterback play could be enough to ultimately get them there I still think they're they're a level or two behind here I I put this closer to 13 on the spread personally it'll be interesting to see what Alabama does because I also agree they didn't show a whole lot I do think they're going to try and run the football a lot I still think they probably have some success here I will say if Kentucky is to hang around and cover this spread and you like Kentucky I would consider betting them in the first quarter of this game on the spread that's available as well I think that it's going to have to be either a scoreless first quarter keeping Alabama to a field goal kind of game yeah I just I think

Alabama's still the better side I know that they again Kentucky had a great transfer class I think sometimes that's going to take a little longer to materialize when you step up in competition talking about at least a top half of the SEC team in Alabama so I'll be on Alabama here at this number and I'm with you Mike Alabama's one eight straight in this rivalry and Will Stein listen he's a great hire I think you got Emory and Tom said that but there's just too much of a talent differential here between these two programs and Keel and Russell for Alabama that new starting quarterback look like a star last week and I just have a feeling we're going to see him at a high-smit trophy ceremony between now in 2028 Alabama 34 Kentucky 16 I'm laying the 10 and a half on the road this next game this one this one's painful for me and I'll explain why here in a bit ASU Arizona State at number 10 tech say in them who's giving 14s and some places the line is 14 and a half the total is 50 and a half we have a lot of Aggie support Emory start us off why do you like Marcel Reed in company offensive and defensive line that's where is one in loss and A&M will

win that battle against a lot of teams outside of the SEC and I like that match up here and that allows a guy like Marcel Reed to do his thing operate like he does back there in the pocket just the way they can move people up front on both sides I just feel like the Aggies had the advantage still a little bit more discipline on defense and that discipline be enough to really still a few possessions away from Arizona State so I will lay these 14 points with Texas A&M Tom tell me about the Aggies why are we laying two scorers at home it I like Texas A&M this year they got a lot of new pieces but one of the areas where I think they dominate is on the defensive line and I think that's where Arizona State is going to have a lot of trouble here I don't think they're going to be able to run the football I think Texas A&M is going to get out to a lead I also think you know you mentioned Kentucky I know they're kind of a popular dog play this week I think Arizona State's going to be a very popular dog pick I feel like there's just too much in the trenches for Texas A&M and they pull away in the second half Mike there's nothing more that I enjoy than watching ASU

get its butt kicked in college football so I hope you're right about this but I hope you three are right about this thing why do you like the Aggies yeah I mean everything the guys have said there there's a large talent discrepancy between the offensive line of Arizona State the defensive line of Texas A&M Arizona State is not running the football in this game they're going to be one dimensional I think the Texas A&M defense ultimately puts some points on the board in this particular matchup and they get to play with 12 men I mean playing at Kyle Field is a massive massive home field advantage in college football I think it'll be true in this one I think that defense will literally again have Arizona State one dimensional and it'll really really be tough and ugly for them in the second half of this one just a big talent discrepancy here I think this game should be closer to 17 and a half than 14 here it is time for our second edition of EC Island this week last week we saw Boise State and oh boy this we're gonna have to burn this graphic

because never would I wear anything with ASU on it this is horrible nobody nobody can see this we're not we're definitely not advertising this anywhere so I was undefeated I'm want to know with Boise State last week I'm going with the Sun Devils plus 14 this week this is painful but business is business cutter bully looked like the best quarterback in the nation last week I'll be it it was against Morgan State but 370 yards and six touchdowns is what it is I just don't think text saying am is as good as everyone says they are this year I'm taking the Sun Devils plus 14 give me a and M31 ASU 24 I hope you guys are right I really do and I hope this graphic can be burned because never again will I pick ASU or wear anything like that but we're going EC Island see if I'm going to 2 and 0 in this the way we do this okay now we have a little Emory Island here and Emory I'm really disappointed in you our fifth game is one that means a lot to me it's my earth on a wild cats on the road number 15 BYU who is giving 7 and a half of the total at 47 and a

half Emory come on I mean I I guess it's better not to have you unanimity here but it's Emory Island with the BYU coolers well I do like the fact that BYU is very similar to Texas and him in the trenches and you have all that return experience on both sides of the ball and you have a team that gunning for the big 12 championship game and yeah Arizona could keep this thing close but I just feel like BYU can win this one by 10 and when we talk about a team that's focused that understands was out in front of him and even though North of Eda played well last year played better than he did his previous year but look more like the freshman year in North of Eda this is going to be a tough match up and I just feel like across the board the matchups are favoring BYU so I like those guys to get the job done Tom I'm so proud of you with this pick you and Mike very very proud especially this this segment and the next segment we'll talk about that next tell me about why you like my wild cats getting 7 and a half on the road in Provo yeah well you know Emory and I spent all

summer talking about BYU I have them in every futures market to win the big 12 over wins I mean to make the college football playoff anything you want I got them I'm even even looking at them for my son to go to school there that's how much I've been talking about BYU but when the season started obviously the Notre Dame game is there but this was the game that worried me the most because it's early in the year we know Arizona didn't game plan for week one they've been game like you're gonna mention game planning all summer I mean BYU did the same thing for Arizona but I just feel like this is going to be one of those games that's going to be close now I do agree with Emory if BYU covers I think it's the trenches that start to take over late and they get some runs with L.J. Martin but I like Arizona to stay the 7 and a half is key I like that half and I also think if you like Arizona to compete here I like them early I like it I like him in the first half maybe the first quarter because I like I said I think if BYU covers it's later I think this is a very competitive game though most of the way Mike I never thought of all the episodes

that will do this season that I would see you pick my Arizona Wildcats so I'm very proud tell me why just the number honestly you see you know I do a lot of things with the computer here and I made the number four and a half in this game I think that you know you could maybe in extreme cases talk me to getting this number to six but not through seven not through up to seven and a half I think it's going to be a competitive game I think this is the best time for Arizona to catch BYU frankly they've had additional time to prepare they they've got a little revenge narrative from the way they kind of got stunned last year and that come back effort from BYU I think Noah's going to play very well in this game and again I like their health where they're at I think Arizona is honestly a little underrated on the defensive side of the ball here and that's where it kind of the source I know we just watched BYU put up like 63 points and week one that's not happening again here in week two I think this will be a very tight competitive game I think Arizona could you know surprise some people I do agree with Tom though they do need to to not be getting blown

out and have to come back to cover here I think it's going to be if they cover it's going to be a situation where they're ahead or neutral pretty much the entire game so give me a competitive one give me Arizona plus seven and a half oh I love hearing that all right this is my one chance to talk Arizona football on this show all year so I'm going to do it so Danny Gonzalez defensive coordinator for Arizona talked with him in March talked with him in June he said they have been scouting BYU since the offseason began what happened last October and Tucson I was there to witness it wasn't pretty Arizona had a 10 point lead with four minutes left they blew it went to double over time and lost there was a big rain delay during the game the whole thing was a mess and it was very disappointing and it cost Arizona an undefeated season at home and potentially a chance to make the the big 12 championship game last year but revenge is best served sweet I think is the expression something like that and Arizona's not going to be afraid of BYU they're not going to be afraid to going into this environment in Provo which is going to be wild but think about Arizona though Mike

can you reference this Arizona's defensive line significantly improved their front seven I was really impressed with I am concerned with their back four though the defensive backs are young they had they lost five guys that went to the NFL that were drafted in the NFL this year from that secondary how do you replace that so I'm a little concerned about that I think this game stays close I thought the number would be seven and a half all off season it is and I was ready to hammer it and I did early in the week BYU 24 Arizona 20 listen I'm not a homer I'm not picking the not picking the money line just just yet but I think Arizona keeps this game close throughout and I will take the plus seven and a half gladly okay thank you thanks Ben behind the scenes I love that all right so up next it's the long shot lounge and I got to give Emory got to give you props here you called Colorado last Thursday on our show you said Colorado is going to win this game outright and so you are one and no and you're up two units 2.05 units as I calculate here with the Buffalo

so you get to start this week who is your dog of the week I say UCF I feel like there's been a lot of overreaction to pit and henchills seven touchdown passes I'm not shooting down seven touchdown passes that's still a remarkable feat it pits gonna be fun to watch but so as you see effort I know it was Bethune Cookman but I love what Alonzo Barnett did as a quarterback last last week and you know the transfer from J.M.U. and and what he brings it at offense both teams probably didn't show much but I feel like UCF showed less it was just out there just out-athleting everybody that's gonna be a big one in here I feel like if anything will become a track me but I do like UCF to get the the win straight up against pit and I'm gonna agree with you Emory that's also my dog of the week I feel good when I get to side with you on this play Alonzo Barnett I think we're all forgetting this guy played in the college football playoff last year he played it out since stadium and and put up some big numbers at Oregon I mean they weren't J.M.U. wasn't gonna win

that game but they still put up a pretty darn good fight there uh uh uh uh sorry that was that was my liberty you might he they played in the in the college football playoff was it J.M. J.M.U okay you J.M.U thank you I was getting that mixed up all right J.M.U played in out since stadium played well Alonzo Barnett not going to be afraid of playing an AcroShirt Stadium I have empty football stadium no offense to you pit panther fans I think I think UCF pulls this one in outright with Scott Frost Tom you and Mike are sharing the same pick we just talked about it my Arizona Wildcats you're getting at better than two to one odds talk about them again yeah well you know this if I like the UCF pick I was actually one of the games I was looking at but I saw it too we already had put it in the sheet so I said I'll go a different route here yeah listen like I said I think Arizona has a shot it's one of those things right got BYU to win the big 12 so if they lose this game at least I get something out of it uh by picking this straight out I just think this is gonna be close in the fourth quarter and then when it's close

in the fourth quarter it's gonna come down to miscues it's gonna come down to coaching decisions and it's gonna come down to the officials you know you might get a call that goes one way or the other on these teams so because I think it's gonna be close give me Arizona plus the 245 Mike at plus 245 is that enough value for you to bet them you know to throw a decent amount of money on Arizona outright in Provo yeah look I think it's a one-score game I think you look back to a year ago and Arizona had this game won a year ago and I think they're definitely a better football team right now than they were a year ago when they played uh and I just I think that that defensive unit again a little underrated this is the time when I'd want to prepare I want to play BYU is very early in the season with all the additional time to prepare everyone's healthy Noah hasn't taken a bunch of hits yet this season uh I think this is the time to play uh Arizona it's time for plus money party where we're putting together a parlay either a single better a parlay of three to one or longer we all have parlayes this week Amri years is a plus

513 three pick three money line plays seems easy right unfortunately one of them uh the guys just kind of acted here but let's talk about BYU start there but we started talking about BYU all throughout the spring and summer so that one is a given we talked about the game here I like them over Arizona on big CVS yes I'm a company man but I will take Mississippi State to knock out Minnesota two good quarterbacks in that ballgame but the difference will be Camarillo tailors Mississippi State's ability to make plays on both ends of offense I think that'll be the key there both old lines look the same both the lines look the same uh tremendous tailback some both sides it'll be the quarterback that'll be the difference and Taylor is a superstar in the waiting and also like Cal to go all the way out to Syracuse to get the win straight up against the orange I love how they competed until things fell apart against UCLA was which was another one of our favorite picks over the all season but I like Cal to take the long conference gain trip to Syracuse and knock out the orange as well now Tom that's a little not so fast on Emory you have the orange man your

orange man money line yeah Emory and I rarely disagree this much but I think Syracuse might blow him out I Syracuse was the team I thought was going to be much improved this year and I was only New Hampshire but I looking for talent and they just have more talent this year than last year and my problem with Cal is 277 on the ground to UCLA I that makes me nervous the long trip so I do like Syracuse on the money line I'm gonna go a Boise State on the money line here boy that guy can coach there Danielson it's just an unbelievable coach and they gave Oregon all kinds of trouble he always gets more the the most out of that talent so I think it's gonna be a competitive game with Memphis but I like Boise State at home and something I learned the difference from college basketball and college football I can give out Bucknell and Lehigh and all those teams and college basketball and everyone's happy and college football everyone wants to bet the biggest games even if you tell them not to so I got to have a little skin in the game give me the Ohio State money line

a field goal at the gun 2724 the Buck eyes win I love score predictions Tom that that warms my heart as well Mike you know it's like so so Tom disagrees with Emory and then you disagree with Tom so give us your parlay of the week yeah I'm I'm playing the Texas Longhorns guys I like this spot at home for them I think that they're going to get off to a hot start here and ultimately win this game so I'm starting there also going big game hunting in that Oklahoma Michigan game just taking Oklahoma on the money line I still think Oklahoma's a little undervalued here I know it's hard to say that after you watch some market movement and watch Michigan do what they did in week one I think this is not about Michigan as much as it is about Oklahoma just being a very good team and then Texas A&M I'm gonna lay the big number on the spread I think it's a massive victory for Texas A&M at home at Kyle Field plus 426 the payout on it the only other play I want to give

here not included in this one the Texas Longhorns first quarter minus three and a half plus 190 okay I like that that's that's interesting if they can get an early touchdown on the Buck eyes well so a part of my parlay I'm not I'm a company man I don't I'm not trying I want to us all to win obviously that can happen in this segment but I'm going to throw in my wild cats plus seven and a half so not necessarily contradicting Emery's pick here I'm going with the all to under in Ohio State Texas I put it at 56 and a half I just can't find a way to see that both teams get more than 28 points here that maybe either team gets more than 28 points here with these defenses I also like UCLA money line at home against San Diego State and I believe Tom talked about Boise State at home against Memphis Memphis really impressive win at UNL they're not going to do it against Boise State this is a parlay a four legged at plus 312 in our plus money party let's see if we can get on the board this week now it is time for best bets this is where money is made these are our favorite

picks on the board this week Emery you had a heck of a week last week you went two and oh in this segment so you get to go first with your favorite spread pick of week two I'm gonna lay in the big number with Penn State versus Temple I was at this game in 2015 when Temple upset Penn State with Christian Hack Bergen company different era of Temple different era of Penn State I actually love what I saw last week from Penn State against Marsha I thought Marsha was going to keep that one close but that was under probably the James Franklin rules of playing these out of conference games where they could be hit or miss and so what Matt Campbell not the helm they're not hit or miss they went out there and dominated Marsha from start finish I think we'll see them do the same against Temple all right Tom one in one last week Kentucky we talked about him earlier they are your best bet getting the ten and a half points at home against Alabama yeah and again listen this is more of a projection on my part you know I kind of like this Kentucky team I'll just throw this out there

I know everyone's talking about Helan Russell I mean he played well I thought he missed some throws sometimes I think I people see things that I don't I think he's a fine quarterback I think at the end of this game he won't be the quarterback we're talking about we'll see what happens I'll take the ten and a half Mike Kansas State they're your team and they looked phenomenal last week against whatever random team that they scheduled in week one then I can't even remember they won 73 to six or something like that you're just taking a first quarter play with your wild cats I like another hot start love this team at home here Concline era is here and I think he's going to really be extremely aggressive on both sides of the football early and often I think he actually learned a little bit with his stent with Texas A&M on that coaching staff he obviously played for Kansas State he's really gotten to work a lot with Avery Johnson a guy that was once talked about as being a legitimate Heisman candidate who's obviously stayed in school and stayed home and

stayed put throughout his college career I think this team is extremely dangerous I really don't like Washington State all that much with the coaching change as well I think they're definitely going to be a team that's a little overrated still and I think it shows here I think Kansas State scores multiple times in the first quarter of this game and this number should be closer to minus six and a half to minus seven based on where the full game spread is of 17 and a half here I'd be on Kansas State in the first quarter I dedicate both of my best bet picks this week to Emory Hunt and Emory I'm going to start with one on N-1 Europe up here I want your opinion on this one I'm going Illinois State minus three and a half at Northern Illinois so we're talking about a team who is one point away from a national championship in FCS versus one of the worst teams in FBS this season Illinois stayed open with wins of 76 to nothing and 41 10 over teams that probably shouldn't be playing football but still they're averaging nearly 550 yards of game in those in those two contests Illinois State ranked number fourth number four in the FCS coaches pole N-I-U zero returning

starters on defense I think they're going to start O-11 if they lose this game they play U-TEP in their final game they may have a chance in this one next week they go to Tucson not going to go well against my wild cats but I'm going Illinois State on the road in the rare FCS over FBS match up Emory you on board with that one yeah they're favorite in this game and when you look at Northern Illinois the hey coach is not coaching in in FL so everybody left the program and Illinois State I could never count against a Brock Spack coach football team one of my favorite coaches in the sport and what he does in the trenches there's always at least two to three Illinois State football players in these postseason also games that I tend all throughout January let's go red birds all right Mike we're gonna have you do your favorite total of week two we've talked about it earlier it's a first half team total yeah going first half team total under on the Michigan Wolverines I understand they're at home I think Oklahoma's defense is absolutely legit I think that there's

some real struggles for Michigan offensively in this game I would also say that if it doesn't go well even as early as the first quarter we may hear that crowd start to boo they're they're very expensive young quarterback I think that this is a spot where Oklahoma just absolutely clamps this team at least early in this game I do not think they get a touchdown and a field goal in the first half and I don't think that they're successfully operating for first half field goals I just don't think the possessions in this game will allow for it frankly so under nine and a half here for Michigan as a team total in the first half Tom I'm kind of bummed you know you you and Mike love to play team totals and I can't play those here in Arizona just certain you know betting restrictions in college but you love this one for Oregon I actually really like I like Mike's play and I really like your play here of Oregon's team total tell us about it yeah well first I hope you're right about that oh and 11 for Northern Illinois I got under three and a half wins I mean if that guy wins four games there this year he should be the national coach of the year so I like that

Illinois state play a lot I think you're gonna see a different Oregon team come out here this week I think they're gonna start faster I think they're gonna run the football and you know something that caught my attention was Oklahoma state coach Eric Morris said he was concerned about his team's conditioning after they kind of gave up after they were dominated in the fourth quarter so listen I you might not know this I'm a certified strength and conditioning coach and I can promise you this if you're not conditioned on Saturday you will not be conditioned by next Saturday that's not science works so I that that really caught my attention I think Oregon get some runs late as well as they just mash that Oklahoma state defensive front I think they go over 40 and a half points well I need to have Tom prepare my my workout routine every week of the gym I think we may need to talk after the show Amory you have a total for the game for a game and it's actually Mike's game that he referenced earlier Kansas State and Washington State which way you lean in I like the under 40

and a half I just there wasn't anything that really stood out to me offensively speaking up until the last drive for Washington State I love their defense those guys kept their offense in the game and they played winning football unfortunately the offense didn't do much against the Huskies and I feel like that defense will carry that over to up and up against Kansas State but Kansas State's offense much better quarterback play better off off the offensive line if one team is gonna score I can't say when this ballgame you know 24 or seven which helps might win with his wild cast but also helps the under hit as well and Amory here's my total pick dedicated to you as you are a former raging cadence running back we got the Louisiana USC over 59 and a half so this trend failed less my my USC non-conference over trend failed less like that president states offense is flat out incompetent and lunch win field is not incompetent for the raging cadence so we're not we're not gonna go there listen here's the thing in nine August September non-conference home games

under Lincoln Riley USC is averaged 55 points a game the opponents have got have averaged 15 and that includes two shutouts including last week the biggest question I have here and sorry Amory which number is gonna be greater the number of times Louisiana scores or the number of times they stop USC I think it's gonna be close USC 49 Louisiana 20 and this one flies over am I under something there you with me on that over the line it definitely is gonna go over I just don't know how much of it's gonna be on Louisiana side you know I feel like what we saw from USC again sand hose a state in Fresno State doesn't bore well for the boys from Lafayette Mike of everyone else's picks that we've just talked about is there a game that that kind of stood out in your mind that you're like all right I'm gonna jump on this you know this is what I do and I listen to you guys I'm like all right now wait a second maybe I need to look at this cans of state game and see what I can do is there a game that you heard from from the other three of us that you may want to jump on with just a lean after hearing that sorry to put you on the spot here but no it's one

that I'm actually playing it's Oregon over Oklahoma State I like Oregon a lot here I think that they look credit to Boise State it's a program that has had a lot of success they did a great job I didn't think that they would be able to cover against Oregon I think Oregon kind of takes it out on Oklahoma State just a little bit here I really expect them to kind of run it up I like that team total over I think Oregon scores 49 points in this game and I think it's possible that Oklahoma State doesn't get the 10 wow all right and there you have it it pays to watch to get a bonus all right let's recap our best bets from the week I had Illinois State minus three and a half at Northern Illinois and the Louisiana USC over 59 and a half Mike has cans of state in the first quarter minus four and a half against Washington State and the Michigan first half team total under nine and a half Emory has Penn State minus 23 and a half against Temple and the under 48 and a half in Kansas State Washington State and Tom is going with Kentucky plus 10 and a half and his mic

to set he loves this Oregon team total over 40 and a half which Tom is giving out let's see how these all play out heading into next week and we'll keep track of these standings each week to see you know Micah a few years ago I remember you started slowing and you kicked our butts as the season went along so get ready never I never never fade you unless you fade my wild cats but this week you aren't which makes me happy all right it's time for a group of six picks and Tom you get to go first because your first pick happens to be a game that's being called by Emory huh yeah listen I I actually think this game is going to be pretty competitive so make sure you tune in and listen to Emory uh Southern Utah is a good FCS team I was just super impressed with Colorado State uh last week and it's day and age of college football you kind of got to see these teams because they Colorado State an entirely new roster under Jim Moore uh but I like the talent I mean that they they blew out Wyoming they beat them pretty easily so I think Southern Utah hangs

around for a while but I think Colorado State ends up covering the 20 and a half and my other one is listen Monmouth's getting 26 and a half against Western Michigan when do you think those kids for Western Michigan started practice in this week uh yesterday today I mean when were they actually looking at Monmouth because losing the game I that's about as bad of a way to lose a game that I've ever seen and I'm pretty old uh I just wonder early on how focused they're going to be Monmouth is a decent FCS team who can score some points I think they can put up 21 24 points here of Western Michigan as it totally focused and cover this big number of 26 and a half. Emory Memphis goes on the road uh wins at UNLV at the stunner of week zero now they're going to Boise tough spot Boise State coming off that close loss at Oregon but you are still taking Charles Huff's team on the road getting eight and a half. Yes and firstly full circle moment the first game

I've ever called that involved an FBS team was not this game that I'm on uh this upcoming Saturday it was actually Monmouth versus Western Michigan at their radio up there uh for that game um when we're up there at Calamazoo so funny fact that I did that game it was my first time calling the FBS matchup albeit against the FCS team now I have a full FBS versus FCS matchup on TV albeit on CVS Boise network of all places that so that's cool first full circle moment for me um but I think Memphis will look at this game Charles Huff will look at this game and say we got him right where we want him you know and I think a lot of people forgot how good Memphis was because a lot happened last weekend um and we stopped focusing on Memphis versus UNLV and I think this is a game where we can see both teams play super competitive it'll be a great game and it wouldn't surprise me to see it go to overtime but I like Memphis plus the points here in my second one Lehigh minus in the half against William and Mary I love William and Mary's staff I love what they do from a program from

a philosophy standpoint but man Luke Yoder they're running back for Lehigh but now I'm gonna tell back I will lay the turn to half points with the Monmouth they return a lot of people from a team that went into the playoffs last season you know I started paying more attention to FCS after you and I did uh this show a few years ago and kind of watching how you you know uh get into all these games you make all these picks so it's fun the the first two weeks to make some FCS picks here now Mike they're not FCS but Emory's pick in the last segment can to state your team and you gave out can state in the first quarter against Washington state who technically is a group of six team in the whatever you want to call it packed well which isn't the fake packed well what's your take on Emory's over under the 48 and a half that he gave out which way do you lean in that game if I'm going under I will lean under on the Washington state team total personally first I like Kansas state in a pretty big way in this one I'm you know Emory talked about that game they they were fine defensively I don't think Washington's any good personally uh that that's

where I'm at so because of that I'm not giving a ton of credit to to Washington state here so I think Kansas state's going to have their way offensively here but it really the Kansas state defense and special teams uh I know that we've talked about a program that's changed hands a couple times historically always over perform though on the defensive and special teams area uh I think there have success because I don't think Washington states running the football against Kansas state and and that is where I think they're going to run in trouble gentlemen great intel as always this week you guys deliver the experts shine bright and I love being on with you guys to educate me and not only in and everybody else who's watching so producer Ben behind the scenes the best in the business making us look good except for putting that ASU hat on my head in the EC Island graphic that we're going to need to talk about after the show other than that guys awesome show for Tom Casselli Emory Hut Mike McClure I am Eric Cohen thanks for watching the early edge college football picture show and as I always like to say let's hit it big good luck
