About this episode
In two years’ time Ireland will mark the 200th anniversary of one of the most significant moments in its history — the election of Daniel O’Connell as MP for Clare, a victory that helped pave the way for Catholic Emancipation.
O’Connell’s Monument in Ennis marks the location of that historic event, but there is currently little information there to explain its significance to visitors and locals.
Former Ennis Councillor Brian Meaney is calling for information boards to be installed at the monument, as he believes the site has an important role to play in celebrating Clare’s place in Irish history.
He joined Alan Morrissey earlier to discuss the proposal.
