It is finally done.

Spring training is over. We got some things to talk about as we head to the season opener coming up on Thursday. It's next here on Lockdown Brewers. You are Lockdown Brewers, your daily Milwaukee Brewers Podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. All right, coming up on the show today. Yeah, the final run ups and we're ready to go Thursday's open against the white sucks. It's been a long time coming. We'll get to a few notes and things and some of the things that we're said here in the last couple of days.

Some predictions where I think the Brewers are going to be headed overall. And Pat Murphy gives Lockdown Brewers a shout out. He didn't say Lockdown Brewers, but he called me out of the press cameras the other day in Milwaukee. So it was real cool. Don't see that often, but it was cool that he did that. All right, two two nubs at M fan field, a couple of exhibition games where there was probably a thousand people there, both games. I don't know. Some people were groaning and gripping about it, but I don't know baseball's baseball. I did not go on Tuesday. I went Monday and I was like, I don't even go Tuesday. So I'm going to be at the ballpark enough. Not that going to the ballpark is too much. But yeah, there was probably a thousand fans there Monday night went to the game. And it was, I called it a soft opening day. Yeah, I think it's pretty cool that they have something like that because you kind of get used to the lay of the land. If you want to go out there again, especially for me, somebody's out there alive and just going in there.

And you're not the worry about because opening day, you're with that big crowd right away, right? You get terror and it's like wall-to-wall people. But you know, the soft opening and it's just kind of a relaxed atmosphere. The players certainly played a swift game. Monday's game, two hours and 27 minutes, Tuesday's game. You knew it was going to be fast. Two hours and 10 minutes for a cactus league game was fantastic. So they got what they wanted to do. Man, spring training seemed like it lasted forever, right? I mean, it just seemed like it went on and on and on. But nonetheless, we're here, start of the season, ready to go. Now a couple of notes, Jake Bowers, the MVP of the post season seven home runs hit 462. He's Mr. March, Jake Bowers, Mr. March. Now, again, when there's always a Mr. March and by April, we're like, oh, my God, I think this guy have a great spring training. So we'll see if Jake Bowers is able to crack that mold of guys who, you know,

look great in the latest is Vinny Capro last year. Look great in spring. And then by May, you're tired of looking at the guy, but Jake Bowers, seven home runs, he crushed one on Tuesday again. So we'll see back up for space, but it's going to place them out, feel as well. Jacob Bowers is the MVP, although Tyler Black overall was the batting leader. He batted 500. Up there on Quinn Priester, Murphy does say he's going to be about early May. So basically the first for four, five weeks of the season, the Brewers are going to be without Quinn Priester in that rotation. Interesting. Now, the Brewers have said that Kyle Harrison is going to pitch Monday against Tampa. Sprote is going to pitch on Sunday versus the white socks. And the Sprote's got some nasty stuff. He really does four innings today on Tuesday, give two hits, some nasty stuff, good stuff.

And I think Kyle Harrison is going to be this year's Priester. That's my pick. You know, when I say this year's Priester, Priester came from nowhere or they made a trade for him in in April. And we didn't know what they expect from this guy. And Priester one 13 games, I think Kyle Harrison is going to be that guy this year left the I like them. I'm curious to see his start Monday against Tampa. I like the spring. I like what I saw both on a Harrison and Sprote just the way they threw the ball. You know, I hope he carries over again that a regular season, you never know on something like that. But Harrison, I think both of these guys, yeah, we could complain and all we want about them trading Durban and them trading for all to, but they got, you know, the Brewers, their mode is stack up on pitchers and they did that again on on Tuesday, they got another picture of the trade. We'll talk about a minor lead trade, a minor move to not a minor lead trade. The guy they traded for is got some major experience.

He's been around for a little bit, but we'll tell you about that here in a little bit. One other know what I thought thought was fascinating Murphy. When talking about the unfeel spot, that's about Christian Yelge. And he was asked about Yelge. If Yelge is going to play any I'll feel this year. And Murphy threw in, well, you know, he talked about, he built Yelge up and talked about guy still got his legs. He could still run mid thirties and stills got game, all that. Of course, I mean, he does. Yelge does still have game. I agree with all that. And you know, he played 150 games last year, but he said, yeah, you can play some on field. He could play some on field, depending on, he said on the on the center field spot how that works out. And as you know, they got Lockbridge and Mitchell right out there in center field with. With those two guys, you know, Lockbridge made the team and Mitchell is hopefully going

to stay healthy. And we'll see how that works out. And if it doesn't work out. It sounds like without him saying that maybe Turyl could move to center. You might see Yelge left field a little bit more. The penny again, he said, depending on how they have center field. So I think that center field spot is really going to be under a microscope. I could have been referring to as Mitchell going to stay healthy. You know, Lockbridge, even though he had a nice spring. What's going to happen with him? Lockbridge also plays the first space. He took some warmups at first space, played a little first space. So that could be, he could be an option getting some innings over there. Who knows? You know, athletes are athletes. They could play anywhere. You know, Lockbridge is one of those guys probably could play anywhere, but he was over at first space a little bit. Mitchell, I would say is probably the preferred center field there, but it was just curious to see that when you hear Murphy say this, that you know what, depending on the center field spot, you could see Yelge out in left field.

I think Yelge is fine on left field. I think I rather have Turyl played left. I hope that center field spot works out really would love to have Mitchell work out and keep Turyl in left field. You know, don't worry. You did a fine job at center field last year, but don't worry about him. He's, I feel like he's still a guy who has got a lot of growth left in his game offensively. He's my breakout guy this year, by the way, Turyl. He's a 21 home runs, hit in the low two 70s in each of the first two years. I think there's more there there with Turyl. I think we all feel that way. I don't feel when it's all said and done. Turyl is going to be one of those guys who average is 271 and hits 21 home versus a season. Not that that's bad, but I think he's got a lot of talent and he's young. He's heading into his third full season. And I really think without putting any pressure on him, there isn't any. And the brewers have never done that. But I think this is one of those seasons where we're going to see Turyl break out into a superstar on the locked on podcast networks, MLB top 100.

He was in at 49 and I've already complained about that. I thought he was really low in that one. Well, I think next year this time he'll be in the top 30. I think Turyl is the breakout guy on this team this year. I think he's really is the guy with Harrison. I feel like going to be the queen priest or this team, maybe the breakout pitcher. You know, a lot of talk has been made about the young pitching staff and all that. And the brewers went out and got themselves. There's Jake Woodford. They made a tray. They got him. Murf talked about, well, he's 29 years old. He's going to add some a little seasoning into this young pitching staff. To me, it doesn't matter that this is a young pitching staff and I get it. Woodruff is the veteran and then all these other guys are young arms. But I look at this pitching staff is not only young arms, but good arms. I like Harrison. I like Sprote. I like a priest and of course, Miz and the rest of whoever they throw in that started

rotation. There's a lot of guys like they're preferred five rotation, five matter rotation right now. I most teams would just love to have that rotation. And I know there's an experience there. And there's some like, oh, if this doesn't work out, it could all backfire on the brewers. Have any young rotation like that. But this is where like a small market team like the brewers are right now. And I know the first thing what's going to happen is if some of these guys fail this rotation, they're going to fans are going to be crying. Why didn't they keep Geraltum? Well, we never heard in that with Corbin Burns when he left because there was always, there were, there were guys to pick up the slack and we didn't miss Corbin Burns, right? Same with David Williams, that Williams gone, the bullpen was just great. Now, yeah, this is, you know, the brewers are not paying for a big time, starting pitching even though they gave Woodruff that deal, right? But they went out and got this Woodford guy who is bounced around from a couple of different teams. He's got a decent sinker.

Yep. Like I said, he's a guy who's, we'll see where he fits in, brewers did give up Casey Hunt. He was the whole minor league pitcher of the year in the, yeah, the brewer organization back in 2024, 26 years old, obviously at 26, they feel like, I mean, he made it up to a major lease as a pitcher by, by time you're 25 or 26 now, I don't know if it's happening for him. So, and now I hate to see him go on and blossom, but the brewers made a small move here. Again, they had some experience, but for those of you saying, what's going on with the pitching staff, they have so much youth there, I would say going into the season, don't worry about it. We'll address it if it has to be, but inexperience, but good arms, that's the way I look at it. Experience, but good arms, I've got some guys who could pitch on that team, even though

they're not, you know, there's not a lot of service time there, there's, there's some good arms. I like what I see there, but do we'll start the season on the 60 day injured list. And they put him on the 60 day to make room for Woodford. So that's the way that, that has all shaped out there. So the brewers made that trade, again, the brewers just continue to just stack up on pitching. And that's just what the way, what they do. All right, we're getting some predictions next. Interesting comments out of Christian knowledge, and also I'm going to play the video that Murphy, I got, I was able to obtain that Murphy called the out the other day in the press account. Kind of holding the lock down brewers. I'm the first time I've ever heard him call on a podcast, well, hey, we're the number one brewers podcast on the internet, right? So why wouldn't he call lock down brewers? We'll get to that coming up very soon, Chuck Friedman here on lock down brewers.

I see everybody's putting out their predictions, boys from the journal sent them put out their predictions. I saw I saw Kurt Hogue had 89 wins, Rosie had 90, a red cliff had 86 red cliff, chair red cliff didn't have to make in the playoffs, Rosie had them losing, getting to the, let's see, Hogue had them losing in the wild card, Rosie had them losing in the divisional series. Interesting. All right, 89, 90 wins, I'd say that. I saw where Barshtool picked the Bureau's fourth in the NL Central, Borthead is trying to be different.

Yeah, but with Hogue and Rosie act and red cliff, I can't argue with any of those predictions. I can't argue with any of them. I don't think they're winning 97 as I told you, but I don't think they're winning 82 either. I think somewhere upwards is 90, but I think they're going to win the division. I got them one in the division, I don't, I, I can't see them. I know the Cubs are the sexy pick. In fact, I saw Revegas has got the Cubs as far as the odds, that could best team of the national league behind the Dodgers. I ain't going there with the Cubs, but I think the Brewers will win this division. It's tough to make a call. I mean, these guys, they made a prediction on where they're where the Brewers are going to how far they're going to go in the postseason. That's hard to say, especially right now in March, it's hard to say who knows who thought that the Brewers are the best record in baseball last year. But if we're going to go on divisions, division title, I'm going to give that to the Brewers.

I'm going to reward them the division title. So Marf, you're going to love this. When somebody sends you a clip of this show, you're going to say your boy Freeman has got you in the division title. All right. You got you got you win in the division title and some of you guys can have a good chuckle over that. But I got some of you media types can have a chuckle over that, but I got you in the division title. All right. What else I want to get here? Get to here. Yeah. Parstool. Got the barispect fourth division. Yeah. Like I said, they do that on purpose. Christian Yelich. I like his comment. I think a lot of people have been really waiting for the day when we suck. And they finally say, I told you so. God. There's a lot of people who call themselves Brewers fans think that way, right? There are just people dying out there just to say, oh, see, if the Brewers drop two or three to the white socks this weekend, it's going to be the same thing. People are going to say, ah, see, I told you. Yeah, I told you they didn't do anything in the off season.

It was going to come back and bite them or they didn't do this or they traded for all to. There's a lot of people out there trying to say, I told you. And that happened anytime the Brewers went on a would lose two in a row last year. God of ideas. Oh, here comes the beginning of the end, Chuck. Even when they won 14 in a row, I think they came back and I think they had a couple of losses after they lost the reds and I think they lost the game after that. I think people, I think we're just trained here in Wisconsin to think the worst, right? But yellow. I think a lot of people have been really waiting for the day that we suck. And they finally say, I told you so that they's not coming this year. But I'm telling you, if the Brewers get off to the slow start, people will be saying that. Won't be me. I think this team's got a lot of talent. They don't suck. They're a good team. They have a small margin of error, as always, but they got some good players. Players who are getting better and better every year.

And like I've always said, with the Milwaukee Brewers and the recent years, what other professional sports team trades or loses one of its top players every year, right? It comes back and is better than next year. No, there's a lot to like about the Milwaukee Brewers. Big farm system, great manager, Murf, you're the best manager in baseball for a reason. I know it isn't like talking about the National League manager of the year award, but he is the best manager in baseball without not only the National League, but in baseball. He's got to figure it out. All right. So yeah, I got the Brewers winning the NL Central. I think the Cubs make the playoffs and I think the Reds make, I think there's three teams of this division to make the postseason, the Reds, the Cubs, and the Brewers will win the division. I think it's going to be a hot race between those three teams. The Brewers aren't going to run away with it. They won it by five games last year. They're not going to run away with this division. What's the key? This is the starting pitching holds up.

The starting pitching holds up, embells, and a terrain takes another leap. They get better production out of shortstop and Freelik, I like to see his numbers climb a little bit better. I've already talked about him, production from first base, wild bill behind the plate. With a healthy hand now, Rodney Fulver at third base, right? I mean, he's got to work out and of course, the pitching, which I think has been real good the last few years, a lot of moving parts. And most importantly, got to stay healthy, right? Even though this team has battled through health issues over the years, they've somehow always been able to put it together and they continue to do that, missing a few preferred starters in that rotation to start the season. We will see. Okay. We come back. Well, Pat Murphy had to say next year on Lockdown Brewers.

All right, Jeff. All right, Monday Murphy goes into the press conference room that he does as post game press conferences on and usually it's on it's on the broadcast, but there's no broadcast Monday. So we did the podcast and Murphy's deal is he goes around the room and if he sees any new faces and he's greater detecting this, he will call them out and say, oh, there's a new face up there. What's your name? Where you're from and all that? He does that. I mean, he did that in a postseason last year too. That's his gimmick. That's what he does. The side joke I have had with guys in the media, some of the guys in the media that in Murphy's first two years, I've been somehow been able to avoid that. I've been, I'm not there at every game, but I mean, they're a good least half of the home games covering them, maybe even more. I've been able to avoid that over the years.

So Monday, he's about to ready to, there's, there's somebody sitting right near me of, it was Owen Jonas, we asked the question and he asked the question and right in the middle of the guy asking the question, the reporter asking the question, he looks up and he sees me and it was, it was, he called, kind of called me off guard. Oh, there's my guy from, you do the, the podcast, I got so many people and so many people send me little clips. Unbelievable. Yeah. Well, it was actually the same, it was actually the same person that kept sending the clips. I think he's the only guy that watches you show, but I just, I like to be, I like to be funny when you're here for the first time and I like to be funny and I'm not all that

funny sometimes, but anyway, all right, I'm worth throwing it out to me. That was, I'll take that. I think there was one guy in there chuckling when I said, well, Murphy, when he said, when he said, well, I think he's the only guy who watches your show and I said, well, there's 12,000, I said that times 12,000, it was somebody who chuckled, it was a writer. You're right. I was off is probably more than 12,000, but let's be honest with you, right? I'll be honest, there's more than 12,000 people who watch this podcast or listen to this podcast. So I know we want to shortchange the podcasters sometimes, but we're a fast growing field. And I also covered the team for a few of different things as well, so but, bloggers, podcasters, we are on the, on the come. And I'm also like I said, I've been a media member for years, but it was fun for him to,

for me, here, call it out. There is no such thing as bad publicity. Mike Wicked and I talk about that all the time. I don't care if he would have trashed me there and said, and at the end of the press conference, he did tell me, he didn't say, well, you know, I, I, I first was alerted about you with some, I, there was a mistake earlier this year where the brewers had sent out on January 1st that these coaches weren't coming back. And I said, the podcast, well, these coaches weren't coming back. It's kind of late in the game. He informed the team that the coaches were going to be let go after the final game of the season, no, the next day. Well, the media didn't find out to January 1st and it looked like, man, they waited this long. Right? The press release. I later made the correction of the brewers told me while they actually made that decision back in, in October.

So I had a feeling when he said, he's watched those clips and he was going to bring that up. Also, I did have a mess up on his salary. Hey, you know what? You're going to get things wrong from time to time. Everybody does it. And you know, and anybody else at the media will know this. You make mistakes, right? I didn't see something written the other day where they had yellowish's home run told around. I'm not going to say where, but I saw it was wrong. It happens. But Murphy called me out on that one about the, but it wasn't my fault because it looked like January 1st. That's when the brewers had announced that these coaches weren't coming back. I'm like, man, they were twisted and win for a month and a half. Were they not what they weren't, but that's just when the news was released. But it was cool. Murphy throwing it out to me. And like I said, I wish it was statewide TV. Get this boys and girls. There's no such thing as bad publicity. We are in the entertainment field. And this goes for media people out there.

We are in the entertainment field. And that's just the way it is. Yeah, we want to cover the team and all that. But we're also entertainers. Some of us are, some of us aren't. There's a reason I've been doing this for a long, long time. I'll tell you that right now. For anybody who's snickered at what Murphy, Murphy had a through out there. The reason why your boy Freeman's been around doing this for a long time. But I appreciate him doing that. And look at forward to the season. Come it up on Thursday. We'll have coverage right here.
