This is the Lockdown Podcast Network celebrating 10 years of your team every day. After a brief stumble on Mother Night, the Brewers once again show whose boss in the NL Central. You are Lockdown Brewers, your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, your team every day. Hey everybody, good heavy long. Check Freeman. Long time sportscaster here in the great state of Wisconsin in proud host of Lockdown Brewers, part of the Lockdown Podcast Network, we are your team every day. Lockdown Podcast Network, the number one sports podcasting network in the world, 10 years and going strong. Lockdown Brewers, the number one, Brewers podcast on the internet. We'll talk about Thursday's wrap up in Chicago. The offense lights up again, Miz had an off night, but the Brewers come bouncing back
after Monday's loss got crushed 17 to three Monday night. And again, the Brewers do what they do. They just come bouncing right back. Bonson right back. They won five or six at Brickley so far. Always a little adversity, but the Brewers overcome that. Yeah, little adversity in Tuesday's game got down three nothing. Mizorowski having some issues out there, but the Brewers in each of those games put up nine runs. Yeah. But crying all year about this offense, but then there's nights like tonight and Tuesday night where they just deliver. We're going to get to all that nine game lead with 22 to go. I don't hear anybody saying I'm Jason. I'm now right. Come on. Let's never use that word again. Jinks. We stop using that stuff and oh my goodness. It's it bothers you.
Know what the you know what in me. Games are 87 and 53 with our with this team. We don't have to worry about talking about jinks or anything like that. It's just a great baseball team. 34 games over the 500 mark. Possibly there's six series win and a roll. If they finish the deal coming up on Thursday, but in my book, they've already accomplished what I've set out for them to accomplish in this series. I was hoping for at least a split and come out of there with an eight game lead with 21 to go. As it turns out, they have Henderson on the hill Thursday for a chance to go up in this division by double digits, double digits. And even if it doesn't happen, all right. And trust me, it would be so cool to take three or four and sink those guys completely
but the Brewers have in my opinion bigger things to worry about when I say bigger things. Clenching one of those top two seats. That's what they got to finish out strong. Yeah, the you know, in baseball, you know, back in the 90s and before that, there was no seating or stuff like that. They would alter every year. The American League East would have the home field advantage one year. They'd go back and four. How stupid was that? I mean, baseball has done some dumb things. But finally, the seating, making home field advantage with the team that's got the better record. And that's the way it should be. You got to earn it. Yeah, there were teams would would clinch like in mid September and then to be coasting because they had nothing to play for because the the postseason playoffs are already laid out ahead of time. And they knew who already you could have the best record and not have home field advantage.
But that's third of play for 80, 7 and 53 getting to 100 wins, getting the best record in franchise history. None of that matters to me. It'd be great. Yeah, be cool to see them with a record of 162 or 101 and 61. That would be fantastic. Never in my life would ever think that that was over going to happen. And I never thought that they would even be challenging that. I thought I said this in the offseason beginning of the year, ain't no way. They're going to get 97 wins. I thought they'd win the division. Look back, I picked them to win the division. But man, they were so great last year. Didn't think that was possible to exceed. And they have and they are doing it right now. Another serious win. How about that? If they could win this game Thursday, yeah, Monday night was so terrible. Monday night was bad. Yeah. But what happens? The Brewers put the hammer down in the next two nights. Brewers put the hammer down.
I heard I saw somebody in Wisconsin sports talk say that Pat Murphy is can't take this team to the promised land. Take them to the world series. We'll have a championship with him. Are you kidding me? Who can't? Who if he can't do it? The two-time manager of the year. Who better? God was that dumb. There was a 15 of six at Riggly. Mizorowski. The concern with Mizorowski right now is he's going through some issues on the mound. Mound slippage. He can't find his footing out there on the road for whatever reason. He's having problems on the road. Mud where he's stepping. They tried working on it. He talked about it after the game that it's an issue and they're trying to find solutions.
Of course, he's not going to tell the media and he shouldn't how they're going to work on it and how they're going to find solutions. Why would you do that? Miz kept that to himself. But he says, yeah, when you're slipping around out there, you're second guessing yourself. Yeah. So, if you're having a problem with the mound slippage, you're going to have a reason. I don't know if it's psychological that he's thinking about the foot and all that. I mean, I could, right, it happens in sports. Get up to the free throw line and free throw should be automatic. But when that doubt gets in your mind, it happens in everything, every sport. With the mound slippage, but he says, it's a real, real thing. Said he didn't feel great out there. Gave him five runs in the first two innings. But thankfully, thankfully, people picked him up on this team. The bullpen. Romero sends a tele. I left Yarebe out of my rapid reaction, but Yarebe, Ashby, McGill.
The bullpen as it is all year long. That was a microcosm. They go into wriggly and they shut those guys down. That offense down, right? Here's the team that's fighting for us to get a top two seat as well. Right. They're trying to get a top two seat. They're trying to catch Milwaukee and they're trying to secure it. If they're not going to catch Milwaukee, they're trying to get a wild card game, at least at Wrigley Field. There are those three wild card games at Wrigley Field. And the Brewers just, their bullpen completely shut the door. So even when Miz has his rough performance, the Brewers still find a way to win with great bullpen and terrific offense for a second night in the row. One thing I think we haven't talked a lot about. And I have noticed it all year.
Man, these guys hustle. These guys don't take anything for granted. Taking the extra base. Hustle, hustle, hustle. I wrote that down tonight at the top of my notes. This team hustles. I mean, they always have under Murphy, but I thought these guys play at 150%. See, he all edge out there. Yeah, yellows might be 34 years old, but he's running like a 21-year-old out there. And he's picking it back up again. All these guys, the effort of 150% effort, and I might be even off on that number. I might be short-changing them, just a hungry team out there. Finding a way to figure it out. After losing that first game, you know, there's some teams out there that would struggle and let that carry over into a long skid.
We saw that back in August. The Brewers lost those three games in San Diego. What they do, they come right back and they take three or four Los Angeles. And they continue to win. They have lost a series since that San Diego series. So I mean, anything I say nice about the Milwaukee Brewers is probably not even given them enough credit. And I'm talking this regular season. Bullpen was just fantastic. Open is just lights out offensively. Contreras one, yellowish Pratt. How about the job Pratt continues to do. Right. Called up this summer, this summer. And he continues to go out there and deliver. Yeah. Got pulled by Murph. You know, a short time ago Pratt comes bounce back and high energy effort or T's.
Head one hit on Wednesday night. A big one, a two run single or T's continues to get the job done. Terrain. Yeah, Bryce is in a terrible funk right now. Just an awful funk. But how about that Bunt on the first baseline? He can't he's he's trying to find ways to help the team win. And he's not hitting real well for whatever reason. He's hitting two fifty two. But that squeeze play to get that run home from third was a five three game lays the Bunt down run scores from third. Beautiful play. Pratt busted down. How about that? After Pratt scored. Yeah, part of it was like, man, if Pratt doesn't score there, he gets a late break or he doesn't come home from third. Oh my God, Murph, he will lose his mind. But Pratt was busted on their baseline. What a Bunt.
Dead is it. And the Cubs had no answer. Pratt slides in head first. I can watch that. I'm continuous loop that beautiful play right there. I love baseball like that. Bunt down a third bait. Our first baseline goes what seven. Five yards, maybe. And Cubs had no answer for that. Wow, that is beautiful. That is unbelievably great baseball. I love it, man. I just love just won't love watching these last two games. And the Cubs bullpen is a complete shambles. Polencia. Oh, I already want to look at Cubs Twitter tonight. Polencia is just getting rocked the other night. I believe it was Tuesday night. He said, well, I want the ball the next day. He got the ball the next day and the Brewers gave him another dose. On Wednesday of what he got Tuesday.
But that looks good in the standings. Nine game lead on the Chicago Cubs 87 and 53 34 over. All right. We come back. We'll talk about Thursday's matchup. What the Brewers Brewers made a roster move. Take some of your comments as well. I haven't taken many of your comments as of late. Got some comments on on YouTube. I'm going to try to get to if we have some time. So got a lot to do yet. Right. The play. It's a great preparation, man. You have a game like that at reglit. Again, man, I'm feeling so good about this team right now. We'll come right back after this time out. Shuk Freeman here on locked on Brewers part of the locked on podcast network. We are your team every day. A big thank you to our friends at Amazon for this limited break. This back the school season. Spend less in your kids with Amazon. The countdown is on for those final days coming up on Tuesday. We all know how crazy back to school. experience could be it starts with a few items on the list suddenly you're shopping for supplies
clothes, lunch gear, tech at about 10 other things you didn't see coming adds up real, real fast. Here's what you need to do. You know that last bit of panic, it's 9 p.m. Monday night, Labor Day night, the night before school starts is somebody suddenly remembers in the house that well, you need some notebooks markers apparently about 12 other things nobody mentioned until now. Nothing gets the heart rate up like our emergency school shopping. I'm convinced Prime's delivered a moral before 7 a.m. feature was created exclusively for parents in this moment and that truck will be right up your door and set it right there for you and you will be good to go for your kid that day. So remember with Amazon, low back to school prices, spend less in your kids because every dollar you don't spend it in is a dollar you haven't spend that in don't go out shopping this weekend. You don't want to do that going to be a beautiful weekend in Wisconsin. Hey, get the Amazon shop back to school at Amazon and spend less on your kids.
Come see what's brewing come see what the good times are. Got a lot of comments from you guys talking about the brewer fever. I wish I could put the the video up and play a portion of it or play a little bit of that song, but I would be breaking I'd be breaking copyright rules. So I don't want to do that. But it did what I said I was going to do left here this morning but flying night and go flying down the street because kids are living in my neighborhood. They're always darting in and out of the driveways. So I was going slowly make sure everybody heard me playing brewer fever today. I'm going to do it again tomorrow too. There's a cup of fabulous right at the end of the street. He's got a W flag in his garage. I've been sitting in the last couple of days. I wonder why. I want to make sure he hears that song tomorrow. Logan Henderson pitches. Coming up on Thursday, 9 to 2.48 earn run average. Mr. quality start. Seven and seven Ks against Texas last Friday. And right now he's sitting at the number three
guy in this rotation with Logan Henderson. Could you make a case that he does he move ahead of Harrison in the postseason? I mean, Henderson goes out and just gives you and I'm not belittling Harrison, although a couple of those bands starts. I got those in the back of my head. But Logan has been just so consistency consistently great. Is here game two starter in the postseason? That tour lady talking about that. Maybe so. But I was thinking obviously miss is number one. Miss is got to figure out that mom slippage. What's going on there? Yeah, you know, I'll be honest with you that that's slipping on the mound. And I know there's so many things right with the brewers right now. But I just think that that's something they got to they got to fix with miss.
I mean, he's been at he's been in games where he is he has slipped and slid around and he's still been able to plow his way through it. But he wasn't able to do that on on Wednesday night. That was a terrible one of his worst outings ever. But back to Logan Henderson. Could it be miss and then Henderson and then Harrison? As you know, the brewers in the postseason, they go so unconventional with their rotation. But they've, you know, I think in past years, well, they didn't start Mizorowski in a game last year. They used them out of the bullpen. He was fine. But Peralta was really the only guy they leaned on last year. But I look at this right now and you got three for sure guys you could lean on. Dustin May. Well, he needs the pitch well this weekend and Cincinnati. But I was thinking man of with Henderson move ahead of Harrison there on the rotation. Interesting. Now we'll put that one on the back burner for now. Kevin Gossman.
Kevin Gossman, he is the guy who in his contract, the no trade clause wanted no part of coming to Milwaukee. Why didn't no part of the Milwaukee? You know, you didn't want to be traded to the brewers. Remember that Kevin Gossman blue jays ends up with the Cubs. Eight and 11 overall this year between the jays and here 4.37 earn run average. His last start through is the Cubs got him a lot of offense Saturday when five fittings, seven Ks. He gave up two home runs, six hits. Wasn't a great start for him. But a lot of offense supported him. But Kevin Gossman, I hope he pitches next week here against Milwaukee. Kevin Gossman didn't want to go, didn't want to be a part of a team that's nine games in front of everybody else in the division. And it's got the best record of baseball. No, I don't want to go there. Well, why would I want to go to why would I want to go to Milwaukee with the great fan base and an organization that treats you like royalty. And when I say that, that organization treats its players very, very well.
Very family oriented team, but the 35 year old Gossman, yeah, I'll pass. I've talked about this before. Anybody's over come and played for the brewers. There might have been some reluctance. But once they get here, you know, they love it here. We don't need Kevin Gossman anyway. Don't need him anyway. But that's the Thursday starters. It would be great. The Kevin Gossman deliver the final glancing blow to the Cubs by tagging Kevin Gossman, getting him out of there by the third inning on Thursday, which was an afternoon game. It said no night games. It's regularly. It's going to be an Ashley televised game. It's going to be a 615 start on the national broadcast on Thursday, about what 25 minutes earlier than it normally is 640 start normally. This was going to start at 615 before the brewers go on the road and they play even earlier starts this weekend. Since the net, since the net, it's got a tough schedule. Look at that.
They can play really play factor into this postseason here in the next couple of weeks. They play the brewers. They play all sorts of content. They got a tough one. But we'll worry about, we'll worry about the reds coming up on tomorrow show. All right. We come back. We'll talk about what the brewers did with their roster today. I just made an off the cuff statement. I said, well, I know there's, you know, brewers fans only exist in Wisconsin. Like I thought I was only talking to Wisconsin fans. And then I got bombarded from people not only all over all over the country, but all over the world. Thank you. And thank you for all the nice comments as well. Speaking of comments, here we go. You look good in pink, Chuck. Not many can
pull it off. Thank you. Thank you. Go Proopers. Keep pouring it on says Robert. Walt says, let's go Chuck. Love the podcast this year. Got to be super into baseball. I've been to 13 games this year. Very good. This podcast has helped get you into Walt. Thanks. Walt. Appreciate that. Anthony had a feeling there was going to be some runs scored early in the game with the temperature and the wind. Thankfully, the brew or bullpen and our hitters did such a great job. Yeah, all three of these games. If you're betting the over, you're in good shape. I think the brewers have mostly been an under team this year. If, uh, yeah, I think they've been mostly an under team. But miss in the over on on Wednesday night over at all three of these games. You were, you were look at good early. If you had the over on Wednesday night, uh, brewers came up big again. Despite the adversity, he says, PK man, miss was it himself, but the offense picked up the slack. So that's the same. Offense has got to pick him up once in a while, right? I mean, for so often,
we're sitting here watching the miss pitch and like the game against Chris sale, right? I mean, we're just sitting on the edge of our seat because the brewers can't score. And sometimes with great pictures, I don't know what it is with great pictures. This happens with the braves back in the 90s and he look at all of Nolan Ryan. I mean, through the history, some pictures, these guys are so good that the offense for whatever reason doesn't, doesn't give these guys enough offensive support. These great pictures like this. And I don't know why I don't know why, but miss is one of those guys who are sitting here and I'm, I mean, scubles another guy. I don't feel like it's a great deal of offensive support with with the Dodgers and of course, when he's with Detroit. Um, SSS says the brewers have outhitting. Now scored the mighty cubs offence this series. Only a casual, only a casual would count those seven runs. Nine hits off. Vaughn. Oh, yeah. When Vaughn came in and the cubs feasted. Well, the cubs still they earned that they they destroyed the brewers a month
at night. I mean, that they have scoreboard there. Um, he goes on and said the brewers are just better than the cubs at everything. Make it four and a row central division champs. Man, you and I are speaking the same language right there. Yes, they are. They are winning. And I'm, I quadruple dumb down. I don't know what comes after quadruple, but yes, the brewers are winning the NL central. I said this last Friday, there's no doubt in my mind and to reiterate. Now, if I said if the brewers don't win the division title right now, I said this last week, they might so turn M fam field into a tractor pull or a bowling alley. Now, if they don't win, they might so just knock the thing down. Just knock the thing down and just make it a parking lot. Just make it a parking lot. You forgot, Abner, double day, you're rebeck. Yeah, I meant, am I short video? I did have the game. I didn't credit your rebeck. Your rebeck came in there for an inning too. Cub fans were insufferable after game one. And he sure were weren't they, where are they
now? King pin says rumor has it Caleb Williams has given PCA the rights of the nickname, nickname iceman with how cold his bat is. That could be, could be a thing PCA struggling, Breggman man, that guy home run in the first inning, tied that game up with the two run blast. That was a Breggman's on fire right now. Brewers have this division one, but we are coming for you in October. Chuck, oh, that must be a Cub fan. Okay, bring it on. Bring it on. I mean, the Cubs, I think they're still good team, but not as good as the Milwaukee Brewers. Jason, what was the last time we executed offense like this twice as a rule? Beautiful. And why did Murphy pull Vaughan out of the bases? Lord, yeah, he put in freely as a pinch hitter. It had been the righty lefty thing again. Bowers was not available. I think he was not available. He's in, you know, banged up a little bit. But in that case, yeah, I want to see Vaughan bad against
righties and lefties his numbers against righties is like two, he's like, hey, like 284. If I'm not mistaken. So yeah, I don't like Vaughan or anybody ever pinch hitting for Vaughan. Bowers did play my bad. He went from right field to first space. He did play. It took a while. It was quiet night though. Two strikeouts went over four. One of the few guys that didn't contribute offensively to the to the game tonight. Joel Kuno, Brewers, DFA him feel like that's like the 40th guy the Brewers have DFA this year. Coleman Crow tonight in Nashville, seven innings, nine hits, two earned runs. Not bad for Coleman Crow. And let's go for the series win. Six series wins at a row. And how beautiful that would look with a 10 game lead on the cubs with what 21 games to go. You a beautiful thing. Can't wait already for that game later on tonight. We'll see a little bit later on late Thursday night early Friday morning or wrap up the
series. Talk about the reds and get into whatever great moments good or bad. Any moments that were good or bad out of the game on Thursday night. I feel like the Brewers have been in Chicago for like three weeks. Thanks for being in every day everybody. Keep those comments coming in. Thanks for tuning in the lockdown Brewers. My name is Chuck Freeman. Lockdown Brewers part of the Lockdown podcast network. We are your team every day. A big thank you to our friends at Amazon for this limited break. This back to school season spend less on your kids with Amazon. Now we all know how crazy the back to school shopping experience can be starts with a few items on the list. And suddenly you're shopping for supplies, clothes, lunch gear, tacking about 10 other things you didn't see coming. And it adds up fast like when you buy clothes for back to school and your kid has a growth spurt two weeks later and you're right back where you started. Sometimes it genuinely feels like they're growing faster than your budget can keep up or when the teacher supply list arrives
and somehow every item feels completely reasonable on its own. Then you add everything together and realize just how much stuff one kid needs for one school year.
