they want to be your truck guy they'll prove to you what that means when you make the call 662 257 19 100 guests will join us this week on the Campbell Clinic hotline from fractures and sports injuries to complex spine and limb conditions the pediatric orthopedic physicians at Campbell Clinic and Oxford are the only specialized pediatric orthopedic team in North Mississippi providing expert care for growing bodies visit Campbell Clinic Oxford dot com schedule appointment of call 901 759 3111 congratulations to Blake in our stream he said he's just finished his first marathon in Little Rock yesterday great day and then goes on to say how to deal with my wife throwing up and leaving her phone in a porta potty quite the adventure full story there I'm sure is uh I don't think you know right after the marathon is not a great time for problem solving so yeah I'm glad you guys got that uh got that solved with whatever was going on there speaking of you uh do you see what happened at Atlanta with this half marathon thing you should I know

or over the weekend but I did not so this is I mean talk about an injustice I the level of pissed here I would be and anybody who's even run a fun run will will get the the way this works so they had the United States half marathon championships and Atlanta on over the weekend I think Saturday if it was Sunday whatever that was Sunday sorry um you qualified you win national championship huge deal biggest one in the country all that stuff you qualify for the world championships and the the leaders in any race this goes for cycling running or anything they follow sort of a pace car if you will there's some sort of vehicle that it's out there in front and it's leading the way and whatnot so I'll just read the deal here for you just McLean was having a perfect Sunday at Atlanta leading the u.s half marathon championships for less than two miles to go a win would have delivered a national title automatic automatic qualification for the world championships and twenty thousand dollars instead the lead vehicle in front of her veered off course

McLean and two others followed before course correcting though it was too late she finished ninth in the United States uh distance federation or whatever denied her appeal so the freaking event went the wrong direction on the course and she finished night somebody who was in fourth ended up winning the twenty thousand dollars and the automatic movement into the world championships all right sucks I mean that sucks the level of suck it makes if you're in that realm that is your life that's what you're building toward the goals the whole deal holy crap they essentially said it's not our fault it was the race that screwed up so peace I guess the one bit of solace they did say that they could there could be extenuating circumstances to potentially give her qualification into the world championships that it doesn't necessarily mean that all the the places in order or your world championship qualifiers from the

United States however no national title no twenty thousand dollars to her to her name yeah it feels like letting her advance would be the the least you could do the humane thing yes yeah sucks sucks yeah I don't really have a lot of there's not a lot to say just good sucks yeah um as you'll the the social media has been really fun to kind of watch a little bit there on on that door said grounds for a lawsuit I mean I don't know if you have a I'm sure you signed some waivers and stuff as far as a lawsuit stands stands to go but yeah really it blows there's no doubt about that that I did not watch the art look at the social media on that yeah it was it was not nice it was it was pretty rough uh I just stumbled upon it for some reason I don't know how I got there I guess algorithms and whatnot but social media is a cancer I saw that big

man said on yeah another post that one year uh people ran Boston marathon qualifying times but they were invalid because the course was 500 feet short of a marathon when it was re re looked at or whatever to to give qualification into Boston um Atlanta marathon he said same thing happened also in Atlanta wow also apparently they had a similar issue in the the the national 5K championships last year as well so Atlanta seems to be excellent at running these uh these national races I mean here here here's a thought we could just put them somewhere else I mean just kind of shooting from the hill a little bit as we're having this this conversation this morning might be an Atlanta problem at this point it might be yes Hayden that is staying on topic she should just file an injunction you're exactly right that is that is the play this morning if you are who whatever her name is there in the peach state uh really good day we'll go here and then we'll

get into some of the team stuff really good uh week for uh two rebels at the NFL combine over the last the last few days just showing struggling he ran a 4.36 40 yard dash and in his size that'll that'll make him some money here coming up in the uh in the draft and he probably underrated uh after the season that he had he was absolutely almost his best receiver down the stretch some huge plays including the very notable one there against uh Georgia in the sugar bowl and uh yeah he's gonna he's gonna get paid he had a 9.88 RAS which is a relative athletic score where they try to put everybody together on one pile and rate you over positions and years and that comes out to be 47th overall out of the 3,844 wide receivers that have been tested from 1987 to 2026 so not bad company there for the Sean stripman on top of that they have to replace his leadership skills

uh he was he was one of the one of the leaders of that team on a on a team he talked about it earlier in the week about all the distractions that that team faced and the kind of the the way that they approached it and he was I think one of the whether it was vocal or not I think he was one of the guys who said an example I've heard that from multiple people inside the program uh like it's kind of starting in December after um Lane had left for all a shoe that was that uh he struggling was one of the um one of the guys that that a lot of players looked up emulated you know and in some ways throughout the the the entire year and even the preseason you know we have that August local media day thing and I remember I was writing a story on some of the transfers I was trying to get one or two quotes from each of them about whatever we were doing there on that day and it could be wrong but we've got pretty good eyes for figuring

out who is a leader has come in to a situation is trying to adapt and jail with with chemistry and whatnot and not because I remember it's all to one transfer specifically did not play him very much where you kind of came away from the interview and went yeah he's full of crap like uh whatever I don't really buy any of that but two that you completely bought were the Sean Stribling and Trey Wallace Harrison Wallace whatever we're calling him as he he's moved on they they both came in with very clear individual and team goals and executed those I do I agree with you I think you know we talk about the skill sets or the athletic production or what that looks like and they picked up the two guys from Syracuse cook and gill and we'll see where that pans out and all these different players but they really really hit on character and drive and and team ability with Harrison Wallace and the Sean Stribling and you can't you can't bottle that up you can't create it you either have it or you don't so we'll see where that pans out

with that position as time goes on I will say everybody raves about La Damien Washington the new coach there so I mean as far as trying to pick out quality people at his position yeah it's one of those things where if you if you say man program x and in this case Ole Miss lost a lot at that position people immediately always should be a negative percentage no but two things can absolutely be true at once you can you can be pleased with what you have coming into the building both in terms of coaching and personnel and acknowledge that a lot left the building you know I mean two things can can be true how how and often two things are true you know so that's that those those guys those two guys Dayquan Wright Charlie Weiss Jr I mean a lot Diego Pounds a lot walked out of that building that's going to be difficult to replace it doesn't mean you won't replace it it just means that it will it is absolutely

a task that that must be undertaken and I have no doubt that they'll do they'll do quite well at it as you said I mean I know I'll say who it is there's no reason to be secretive about it's not world politics or something I mean Gabe D'Arman knows La Damien Washington incredibly well and just absolutely raves about him not only as a coach but as a person as a human raves about him in ways that Gabe who is very similar to me in terms of being pretty skeptical and cynical in general doesn't typically rave Diego Pounds also kind of here see where his giraffe stockings up band he played a really good left tackle for Ole Miss this year what he's asked to do where he ends up being projected but he also had a hell of a relative athletic score 9.5 which is a 77th

out of 1,520 offensive tackles from 1997 to 2026 I thought he had a great season he did now I thought a bunch of guys had great seasons I thought Patrick Kudos price and Sanders some of those guys had great seasons too I mean there's some guys that are coming back that that formed the nucleus of which has a chance to be a very good offensive line but look replacing Diego will be another like you know when we do the whenever spring starts I think it's about three weeks from today is when it starts but when it starts I mean you know replacing Diego's contributions at tackles is going to be a critical box to check if you're going to get back to where you were when it's the box to check because if you've told me to dissect their roster right now left tackles the problem I mean it is the it is the biggest question mark on this team going into the the spring there is no there there is not a left tackle on the team who played left tackle at a competitive level a year ago and you didn't go out and get one it's it's you know there's talk

about Kern and there's talk about where this guy ends up or this guy ends up or what you're doing but no I mean there there is not even someone to put in where you go hey if he just did this at another plug that he what he did in another place or this works or all things like that it doesn't oh it's a it's a huge question mark as we head into the spring it's huge oh they they they if what I've heard is correct they paid Kern money that typically would go for a starting tackle there's competition for him you had to pay premium prices to get him so you know that that will be one to watch for sure you know because he like you said he hasn't hasn't played left tackle at this level and I don't know that he will but I would assume given the price tag that he's going to get a crack at it um that will be absolutely something to watch no doubt yeah in a perfect world he plays right tackle but that might not be the perfect world

that they are they are in for 20 26 so we'll see and I mean as people said they are chambles helps out his tackles a lot with the way he evades pressure and moves and things um you you would have you would be much more concerned if you had a a more dropback passer type playing quarterback from your your tackle position so he does help that out in a in a number of ways the other uh football topic from the weekend and we reported late last week first Patrick Tony headed to the Atlanta Falcons to be a defensive pass assistant I believe is the correct term that were you there defensive passing game coordinator okay close enough uh he got a there that well that will help him from an NFL standpoint moving forward so a great era there with Patrick Tony in Oxford for the month or so uh is everybody keeps you what did not give up a single point um did not give up a single yard um really remarkable they never allowed anything during the Patrick Tony era it proves to

you that replacing him at that level is going to be almost impossible uh there's just literally no way that you're going to be able to bring in anyone I don't care who who is going to be more stingy in terms of points and yards allowed than Patrick Tony was during his time as all misses defensive coordinator there's no air around it so Ole Miss and I have no idea if this is a one for one thing or if this was already happening anyway you can have unlimited staff members so the the the the one for one thing does not really make sense anyway but linear goathy headed back to Oxford the former uh Ole Miss rebel he's been in the NFL he's been in Duke he's been in a lot of different places over the course of his uh his coaching tenure he was most recently I believe a front four specialist coach with the Atlanta Falcons if I have that correct in my head therefore uh for goathy but he's coming in and look I this is a legitimate question that I have

and I don't mean this sarcastically I mean it seriously because I understand what they're doing they're giving titles and salaries and they're making everybody have resumes that that work inside this structure of how many staff members are on division one staffs right now but let me read through this real quick because I think this is this is an interesting situation peak holding head coach John David Baker offensive coordinator Joe judge head coach of the offense Brian Brown head coach of the defense John Garrison running game coordinator offensive line coach uh Frank Wilson senior associate head coach Randall joiner associate head coach I again it there's like jokes to be made in things and I don't mean it like that but I do have the very real question on a day-to-day level what the hell does that mean like I you don't know

what I'm saying like I don't I don't really because I I mean look it was a very legitimate question I had a friend yesterday go okay so with Tony gone like what does that mean and I'm like well I don't know because they have a head coach of the defense Pete's gonna still call the plays like Brian Brown did script work during the bowl season and they're like well okay so does the head coach of the defense run the meetings I'm like I don't know I really don't understand logistically what a day-to-day situation looks like like that I have no idea so I just I can't I'm picturing Dwight Shrewd right now assistant to the general manager not assistant and then when they had the competition to have Dwight's assistant and Dwight won the competition to be his own assistant I don't know man I mean I mean I mean if you want to have a serious conversation about it it's it's you know you're trying to position people to capitalize on

what they envision to be future success and yeah of course if you have a coordinator title that I guess semantically makes it easier for you to become a candidate to be you know a head coach at a different program one day which is should be the goal of people inside a program on the other hand and maybe this is the cynic in me so I'm pre pre-disposing that if you will um you know I think it's harder than it's harder than ever now to keep guys from jumping to the NFL when they have that opportunity I think if you asked a hundred coaches today in college football hey you can stay where you are or you can have an NFL's post I believe at least 90 of those 100 would jump to the NFL because of the life work balance the escape from crazy um etc I mean I really do I believe that maybe I'm wrong

it's my opinion you're free to disagree but I bet money on that by the way um so maybe you're having to incentivize with titles and maybe you need the title to to support the pay structure I don't know um at the end of the day when it comes down to preparing a game play and then calling plays on game day I suspect none of these titles will really matter I think they'll have a structure in place that um that will probably work pretty seamlessly but um yeah you know I this is the kind of stuff that you maybe this is what it takes to get someone to stay maybe this is what it takes to get someone to come um you know those kinds of things I I would assume that most of the people that you just named have um at least some head coach aspirations and if Ole Miss is as successful as they hope to be underpeatgolding then um being high up on his

staff in the wake of that success is going to increase your chances to to to become a head coach yep absolutely transition out of that coming out and real real wicked says there's life work balance in the NFL yes big time seasons they have literally months out of the year where they go into the office at a reasonable hour leave at a reasonable hour have time with their families um their weeks have real structure to them they're not having to worry about their players being tampered they're not having to tamper with other players um they're not having to recruit obviously yes then you know the seasons a little longer and and inside the game week is very demanding but um outside of outside of the season which is a good seven months out of the year

they they have a a a real life work balance that if you talk to coaches who've coached in the who are who left college and went to the NFL a lot of them will tell you they never want to go back back in a couple minutes we did that tell you about in e spark the fastest most reliable fiber internet option available whether you're streaming the rebels or connecting with family and friends they offer both residential and business packages with speed to two gigabits that's up from one previously to learn more register for service in e spark dot com any spark get connected stay local uh we are also uh excuse me i'm sorry uh lost my wisdom my voice a little bit here uh Ole Miss had a great portal season you can too you have an old IRA or 401k plan with the former employer is that money stuck with the bad team not living up to its full potential put that account in the transfer portal that a fellow rebel professionally manage it for you Andrew Sigo Sigo wealth management will build a playoff caliber portfolio just for you

or what I feel like every time I see he said something it's very odd not odd but just kind of contrarian to be contrarian the last like few weeks oh uh you'll have to fill me in this is I'm still learning life without social media in this field and so I've missed that yeah I don't have like I don't know specifically I just feel like five or six times over the last I don't know three to four weeks when I see somebody pointing out a Bruce Pearl comment it has been what seems to be fairly contrarian he was real worked up about mediaco um kind of pointing fingers at Alabama for playing him um and then I don't know about the rest I don't he's always what do you think his next move is oh I mean well the room for the longest time was he was running for political office now that he hasn't done that um I mean I would think you would have his choice of of of TV gigs if he wants them I just don't know

is his Q writing gonna fall or Stephen fails what's his legacy change if Stephen sucks I've been thought about that um because I'm actually who's an Auburn fan in our three and he goes I'm so hurt by Bruce's exit here yeah I mean well he left in a way that almost assured that that his summer get the gig yes he created nepotism um yeah um so yeah if his son ends up being a failure there then yeah that will probably taint some of his legacy but not not most of it he's still a he's still a coach that took over a program that was um in the depths of despair made it a national power that went to what two final fours thanks oh I mean when I covered Auburn for six seasons I covered two sweet sixteen's but also covered at least two really bad seasons and I at no point

in like this is a program that produced Charles Barkley and Chuck Person and Wesley Person and um sunny Smith was there for a long time where they they they they had some proud history but there was never a moment when I covered Auburn that I would have said Auburn was a basketball school um I think and I think Bruce Pearl shifted that dramatically he made he made Auburn I would argue for the first time really in its in its history of a basketball power they had really good years obviously when you had uh Barkley and Person and then I I mean I covered a year when they were on one seed uh in the in the NCAA tournament but but those were considered outliers Bruce Pearl made Auburn a program that people expected to compete nationally on an annual basis for the better part of the decade it would be a really easy segue they're into Ole Miss beating them on Saturday but I'm gonna go to baseball first simply because the regular season has more uh news about you at the moment we'll get to

basketball which plenty of time today as we as we move forward baseball as I mentioned at the beginning they go they lose two out of three in Houston over the weekend falling to Baylor and just kind of a weird game on Friday six five ten innings and that one they beat up on Ohio State who is better under Justin Hare the former coach at Campbell he's done a good job but they're picked last in the big ten let's not make more of this like I saw a couple of people go hey you got a power four win it's like yeah it didn't work like that in baseball out of state sucks and then to the same degree Coastal Carolina who would be your Gonzaga of college baseball if you you had one uh knocking off the Rebels nine to two in the finale Coastal Carolina came in they're not as athletic as last year they're they're lined up as not as good they're they're down um and they were down two starters they threw a reliever against Ole Miss who went six innings and pitched incredibly well and then finished it up with I know the reliever there to bury the Rebels and I game that Ole Miss no showed um you know just there's no other way really around it

they played poorly in in most phases and I it's a couple different thoughts here one was Friday a big deal in a vacuum no um they Hunter Elliott was actually tremendous after the first inning on on Friday I I was looking in analytics over the weekend because I put up a story this morning about Will at Liberty's outing and kind of where he needs to take a step to be very elite especially for a Saturday Sunday starter in the SEC and Elliott was tremendous maybe one of his best outings of his career after the first inning those last four innings against against Baylor so you're you're gonna get you're gonna live off starting pitching especially this first those first two days with Elliott and Kate Townsend who I'll get to in a second you blew the game on Friday there's no doubt about it just made a lot of mistakes couldn't get guys in did a lot of dumb things and it's not that that's a big deal in one game one game does not matter in college

baseball whatsoever it's that when you blow those opportunities and then you have Sunday two suddenly you're compounding it and you don't give yourself a room for some of those things when you just keep making the the same mistakes over and over and over again and this team look that you're you're gonna have to just settle into this team is gonna go or not go based off at starting pitching period it's going to carry them or it's not going to carry them and that is the definition and the textbook of this team even three weeks in I feel very certain about that I I feel fairly vindicated a little bit because I wasn't 100% sure I was right and I know we're only three weeks in but I felt pretty good going into the season that the pitching was better it was gonna be really good from a starting pitching standpoint and then I think more than any other media member I had a ton of offensive questions I did not love this team offensively I thought that the boomer bus did not fit the college level the way that it is currently constructed and I thought to avoid that you were really gonna get quality at bats out of Decker and Federico or

Peno or Randall or whatever group of those ended up playing every day or mostly in Golden and the freshman whatever they look like we hadn't seen them so I had no way to factor them into it and that's been pretty much an exact script so far here for this team and look Elliott was the preseason pitcher of the year by D1 for the SEC he he he is going to keep you in a ton of games now look he's got to get that pitch count down he's got to go more than five innings or he's gonna rake her bullpen Cade Townsend is turning into potentially a very elite Saturday starter in the sleek he is enjoys him he is going pro at the end of the year he's a draft eligible sophomore he's got four he's actually got six pitches I mean he's he's he's legit he's a starter at the next level if he continues to develop the way he is right now that was that was pretty phenomenal stuff he looks like okay yeah he does he looks incredible and then Liberty I'm gonna say yesterday was an anomaly he completely ran out of gas after the fourth inning just collapsed but the fastball and the slider are both very good especially for a day three guy he's had the

change up at times this year and to my left hander running the ball up 95 96 miles an hour with almost 20 inches of break a vertical break and ride it that that's not normal that's going to get a lot of people out so from a scout analytic standpoint they have three really special starters that they're gonna have to ride throughout this season and they've got enough on the on the back end I like Hudson Calhoun I like Taylor Rape I like Waters and and Coney okay enough there when they have to they have to spell and there's some other guys as well this offense those a problem and it's a problem already through three weeks because this is a this is an offense that's currently getting two things you didn't expect they're getting power from Dom Decker all of a sudden he had zero home runs and now he has four or something in basically a week he had three over the weekend including two on Saturday and they're getting Tristan Bacetta looking like an all-american right now and that was one of your question marks going in and he is look very solid and looks like a bounce back year to 2024 when he was at Clemson but their

inability to I know everybody hates when I use the term move the baseball is very real right now last Sunday against Missouri State they were one for 15 with runners-in scoring position that won the game because the one was Braden Randall getting a hit to to walk it off there three two and that one against Baylor they were 0 for 13 with runners-in scoring position on Friday night even on the win over Ohio State they hit four home runs which accounted for seven of the eight runs that they scored against the buck guys and then yesterday 0 for five runners-in scoring position two for 11 with runners-on base and a lineup that just isn't making a lot of sense right now these strikeouts are so plentiful they are they are cading all over the place and they're just not getting production from some of the places where you absolutely have to have it you know Braden Randall right now hitting 216 a 534 OPS on base plus slugging for anybody not

baseball center in our stream Daniel Pacella the Illinois State transfer it's really early and he's one where psychology plays in because you can't just abandon him it's way too early and look you're playing non-conference teams that he's made a living out of hitting over the course of its career this is where he should be very comfortable against these kind of opponents and he's pressing like crazy he came in with a ton of expectations he's one of the top five highest-paid players on your team he was a top-level transfer at Illinois State he's got 48-49 career home runs and right now 143-5-94 is his average in his OPS that's that that's not going to play Austin Folly right now is hitting 176 and while it's really early you wonder are you going to get a regression on those home runs because if he's not running 15 to 20 balls out of the yard what do you have there with him and we don't we don't we don't know that answer but it's a real question Hayden Federico 222 679 now look he's walking a ton I'll give him credit there

it's walk nine times only struck out force putting the ball in play given given props for getting on base that does matter as well but the offense has to make sense and I do think Mike is in a a spot here especially with with five games this week leading into league play in two weeks and a hell of a league start it's in Austin against Texas that the SEC's lone unbeaten by the way I think it's time to play some kids this week get some more bats on for Mosley he has two home runs and forward bats they really liked him coming into the year what do you have there they've tried to give tape sermons some opportunities it's been okay at times they love cannon golden and then it's kind of had a hard time getting him in the lineup in different spots I Mike is struggling with any coach with struggle with this is not this is not a negative comment toward Mike keeping your veterans and the players you expected comfortable and not abandoning them and giving them opportunities but also seeing if there is another option that makes sense and I think you've

got to figure out a way to get that a little in the other direction right now because that is playing into and this is affecting the pitching a defense that it's just not very good um and what is frustrating for Ole Miss it's it's a ton of throwing errors throwing errors happen when you're rushed and they are middle errors in a lot of ways they are focus errors in a lot of ways this isn't balls going between legs this is making a lot of mistakes throwing the baseball around the diamond and this team is just simply not built to overcome those things they have got to be better defensively they've got to be better in the in the infield defensively I think for the most part they've been better in the outfield than I was anticipating I expected worse outfield defense than they than they are getting but um no they're they're look there are reasons why if you wake me up and say this team's in a super and can win a game to get to Omaha go yeah because they're going to ride a pitching staff and they can run the ball out the yard and it's an offensive lineup at all

this stuff and look it's kind of where I warned you going into the year you're going to have weeks where they hit the ball out and you have days where you go God that was fun and that was awesome and wow whoo go rebels and then there's going to be days where they just suck offensively because they do not push the baseball around the diamond and they've got to fix that a little bit they've got to find two to three guys in this lineup they can give quality of bats walk get hit by pitches put the ball in play do all the old school stuff because you simply get the college level I was talking to a guy that you and I know that really understands the pro game a ton yesterday and he said you know I just don't like this lineup because that three outcome thing works at the major league level because the defenses are so good they don't make mistakes and they get to everything but he goes I just can't stand it at the college level because you're not allowing opponents to make those errors make those mistakes and just kind of get the momentum going a little bit they are way to three outcome right now I don't like it at all well and not only because everyone focuses

on errors but one thing and I wrote this on the message board I had the house to myself over the weekend and I made myself turn on college baseball two weeks earlier than I normally do and I didn't I wasn't watching every pitch of every game but I turned on enough to get a little bit of a sandpour platter of SEC teams I saw saw Auburn a little bit saw Georgia a little bit saw South Carolina a little bit saw Arkansas a little bit saw a lot of Ole Miss one thing that Ole Miss does with all the strikeouts that they don't take advantage of that I saw other teams take advantage of is sometimes you just hit a ball that finds a hole it did not really and a major league shortstop would get to it a major league third baseman would get to it a major league second baseman would get to it college shortstop second baseman third baseman don't get to it not to mention the errors and the mistakes but you just put balls in play and that leads

to runs which puts runners on base which makes pitchers press a little which makes pitchers more apt to make a mistake which gets them all run out of the yard and get a three run homer and that's that with Ole Miss specifically I mean I thought they outplayed Baylor but give Baylor credit yeah Ole Miss was the better team and just kind of screwed the game up I mean that didn't bother me in a vacuum no give Baylor credit I mean the the kid hit the three run homerun hit a mistake and then you know when they did the extra earnings thing Baylor made a play and Ole Miss didn't that's simple as that the Ohio State's not good I don't think you can read a hell of a lot into that and then you know yesterday like you said Ole Miss just didn't play very well and coastal did and as much as people hate when you say this that's baseball I also saw this week South Carolina not play well at all I saw I saw a part of Arkansas on Friday lose to a UT

Arlington team now they bounce back and and kind of blew them out the rest of the weekend Auburn looked weird in some spots and looked pretty good at times yesterday I mean I the one thing I will say and and I wrote this on the board is that you you this is not a criticism at all it's really not but if you're just watching Ole Miss it's the only team you watch which is fine you are going to do what beat riders do and that is get really locked in on the warts and Ole Miss has warts they're there I don't think they're a good defensive team I don't think they're going to be a good defensive team um the swing and miss is a problem because you're going to play you're going to face some some SEC pitchers coming up here very soon in Austin with electric stuff where if you don't put the ball in play ever that they're going to have an easy time with you um I think Elliott nipples a little I think he needs to trust his stuff I think Townsend has a chance to be the

best pitcher in the league and I think Liberty's good and then I like a lot of their bullpen arms I think Ole Miss is pitching is going to give it a chance to have any elite season a special season I really do now the flaws give them a deeper floor and I think fans are just going to have to understand that going into the season or they're going to drive themselves insane this team is absolutely going to have some days where it just looks bad my opinion um I don't I don't think there's any way around it you are going to have some SEC games where you just don't look good because you're going to have a lot of swing and miss and uh you're going to kick the ball around a little bit a team's going to jump up on you you're not really going to have a way to come back and that's going to be that on the flip side if that's your Saturday starter all year you're going to have some weekends where I think you're going to get to Sunday with two wins and so you know I mean is Ole Miss the best team in the league no I don't think so are they the worst team they're not

they're they're I think they're a team that has real variance when it comes to league play like I if the someone came in and told me hey this team went 18 and 12 and and is hosting and all that stuff I'd say yeah I can see it the pitching is that good on the flip side from just the early say early sample if you said hey this team goes 12 and 18 they just they just didn't have enough offense they they hurt themselves defensively do I think that outcome is likely no do I think it's on the table sure I do I mean I do you know I as opposed to Texas where there's no world where Texas goes 12 and 18 they look really good you know so when you have flaws and Ole Miss does you have to figure out a way if we're going to use the war analogy you're trying to figure out a way to you know cover up the war some days you kind of can and nobody sees it in other days everybody notices the war water usually wins it rots wood and tears docks apart unless you build with trex trex marine

said Arkansas isn't great LSU isn't great I agree both of those teams neither of those teams at least early look great now they both have really high ceilings because when they put it together much like Ole Miss when they put it together they're really good I can't think of the kid who pitches for Arkansas on Saturday but he was pretty dominant in the part that I watched now they were playing UT Arlington so big deal and I agree with ginger who obviously says Ole Miss wasn't the best team in the league in 2022 either no doubt it's if you get to the postseason the way the postseason is set up as you can ride some pitching yeah you know I mean it's we're we're a long way from that there's still 30 at least 31 SEC games to play and some of those are going to as you said some of those are going to be encouraging for Ole Miss and some of those are going to be lost dogs it just you better prepare for it if you're if you're going to ride pitch to pitch emotional the roller coaster and a lot of people will you're you're going to have

to get your thumbs or whatever because there's there's going to be some indigestion in that it's inevitable triple mass as we were way better offensively in 22 to now light years better yeah but you're deeper on the mound now than you are in 22 you want to title in 22 with four arms essentially two bullpen arms and two starters and yes you were better offensively you were old you're all that stuff but here's here's the other side of that coin is Ole Miss one 43 games last year this team's better on paper than than last year's team because again everybody keeps some of the short stops and I get Luke Chang played a lot but his his fielding percentage was exactly the same as breaking Randall's uh to to to this point it's it's last year I don't know though this this the whole brand and Randall thing I don't I don't I don't know the kid so this is not me defending some kid I don't know him I have no reason to think that I wouldn't like him if I met him but I don't know him um at all some of the whipping boy stuff on him is absurd it's and it's it's creating this thing where this was a really complicated not mean with what's

complicated but there was no perfect answer I mean again I'm going to do some more time we'll go to a part we'll come back with a basketball is Ole Miss decided that the transfer portal did not have an option that made sense when you're putting the entire roster together for the 2020 2020 2020 26 season there weren't a lot of short stops that came out there's a lot of reasons for that one of those is that teams paid their best player well a lot of times short stops are their best player so teams found a way to keep that guy at a lot of schools more than in past years so your options of portal available short stops was very low supply and demand the prices got outrageous so sure because you have gone and paid one like hell yeah sure and but okay and baseball players chase baseball players this is going to be something we're going to have to talk about and we're and it's not going to be the most politically correct thing to say but baseball players are going to be more inclined to stay where they are than players and other sports yes and let's say you could have gotten one of them and you're going to do it from a price

standpoint because I know pretty much how much everybody on Ole Miss's roster is making a way more than we understand that in other sports and to get one of those short stops there were a few two three let's say number one they wanted you over wherever they ended up going but let's say the price was the price you would be giving up liberty and for sure you would be giving up the Pasella you expected to get again maybe they made an evaluation error but the Pasella you were expecting and then probably Decker it would have taken those three not on your roster right now period to grab a shortstop and you've got Peno on a two-year contract which created some issues as well again you can blame them last year for putting Peno on a two-year contract if you would like but when he came in it was their expectation he was the starting shortstop and that they thought they were even getting a bargain by keeping him on that deal for two years because of what we're saying with the prices on short stops being moving forward so that's how we got there it's not an excuse but it is absolutely the lack of the land and the decision they had to

have mortgage questions gmfs mortgage dot com slash jgg six six to seven six to four five zero to a lot of scuttle about rates coming down a little bit here as we move forward with housing situations oh yeah pretty crazy yeah yeah what I what I read over the weekend at least real wicked really good point yes that chick filet not secret at all anymore it has 100% been found around the uh the commons over over there so for us be a secret in my heart yeah we've got you know back when it was a secret windies over there that was oxford was a little different um few few fewer people in tail yeah at that uh at that at that juncture uh Ole Miss is officially announced its spring football schedule now okay oh no never mind I'm wrong they have not I read an email incorrectly we still believe it starts uh march 23rd and ends April 30th but nothing official so sorry uh last thing on baseball before I switch over a line is that yes the extra

innings rule that they did that major league baseball implements as well during the regular season it was put into college baseball as an option in 2023 but no one uses it um at all so this tournament decided to just trying to stay on schedule I did not notice any other tournaments this preseason using it I know they don't in Arlington some other stops along the uh the way I hate it for multiple reasons but the one being that if you just allow the run from uh second to scorer you get the loss as the pitcher and that drives me insane when it's not your fault um I know losses and wins don't really matter for a pitcher but still it's not an earn run it's an unearned run but it is a run against you and it's a loss and that completely makes no sense to me so that's my one gripe with this uh I've said this many times um I have I'm consistent on this I despise sports that changes the game outcomes with playing a game in a way that you never play the game I hate college

footballs over time I know a lot of fans love it it's stupid it makes no logical sense you can love it because it's your deal but you I will win the argument if we go well it's logical no it's not it's completely illogical you never play football that way at no point ever in a game do you just automatically start a possession on the opponents 25 and then you never decide a game with two point place yeah that changes the most idiotic thing we can do that that's pretty on stupid and now in baseball and image league baseball they do this too you don't ever start the second inning hey what let's start the second inning random runner on second nobody out why oh we'll do it in the 10th inning but why why not just look I get it let's we got to protect pitchers call it a time I'm totally serious we we just cannot risk an 18 inning game okay call it a time

new rule we're gonna play 11 innings and if there's no answer about the 11th it's a tie game sure there you go problem solved it's a tie game and then I majorly baseball they do this in the regular season so there's a there's a world where game 162 decides a division and you play it one way but two days later in a divisional series game nope now we don't do that anymore that is idiotic I'll give basketball credit they play five extra minutes of basketball and they start a competition they started the way that they said it would be the equivalent to basketball going all right well we've played uh 48 minutes for 40 minutes so now we're going to play horse it might be now we're going to sport that plays the complete normal game it I think it is hockey the hockey Olympian the other day was three on three

and I was like what are we doing soccer how exciting it was yeah and soccer they play they'll play over times and then they go okay well we can't decide that we're going to play shootout well why do you just do a shootout at the very beginning could have saved everybody two and a half hours they go well it's exciting okay well then do it at the beginning and let it be exciting I can't stand it drives me crazy but you know I mean credit to Baylor in that moment they got the hit Ole Miss didn't you know what I'd like for soccer I think it'd be neat maybe hockey would do this too if they did it's hockey still new shootouts ever yeah just the playoffs or period yeah here's here's here's a wrinkle do the shootout and soccer before the game and if the overtime runs out that's the team that wins it changed the way you played the last five minutes overtime oh yeah maybe so you lose if you don't win we've already done the shootout play at the beginning

we get a shootout every game people love shootouts yeah just take the 10 minutes be quick yeah maybe so you make me the basic ball commissioner it's one of my eliminate just eliminate gimmicks and just play yeah I mean I hated the the I mean the NFL is tinkered with there's a lot I mean I I couldn't stand the just first to score a period that they did for years and years and years that's that's a coin flip game the NFL's fine it's not as it's not what I wish they would do but it's fine I always they'd set a time or for 10 minutes we're going to play 10 minutes at the end of 10 minutes if someone's ahead they win if no one's ahead it's a tie and then if you played if you play in a playoff game after 10 minutes anyone who scores wins

okay no one's asking me so it doesn't matter but I will forever tell you that college football is over stupid oh miss 85 Auburn 79 at Neville Arena on Saturday evening the Rebels break a 10 game losing streak to their season they break a 10 game losing streak to Auburn and that one getting the win and putting just a complete crater in Auburn's incident of the way tournament hopes that they had to whatever level going into the game pat and pecans 26 points at your store 26 points the Rebels hit a good number from three that she 40% from three point range 10 of 25 the the stats back up that they pulled off the win they did well in the paint kept rebounds fairly close over the course of the game only had nine turnovers force 14 I assume that it was a huge sigh relief Neil and to just simply get off this night get a little happy feeling in a locker room for a team

that again they don't win but they haven't quit and they did pull up a nice effort and you saw them for the first time in a long time make more winning plays there in that final four to six minutes final three minutes Auburn Auburn got a 12 point lead to two and I thought well here again and the difference was again that this team has played multiple times I mean I'm gonna leave something out here but these are the ones that stick out of my mind Iowa Utah St. John's Oklahoma Arkansas to some extent uh Texas Texas A&M Vanderbilt LSU um probably forgetting one um but games that they played that were like this that they lost on Saturday they made the place came we're not hit a big three pinkens drew a foul made his free throws I think it was James Scott only the other end of an alley hoop they got some stops got rebounds um made made winning

plays that Auburn didn't make in the final two and a half minutes or so and uh ended up winning the game that was the difference they've played that game the first 37 and a half minutes of that game they've played that game a dozen times got a minimum it's why I've had the argument with people when they go they suck they don't suck they don't finish they don't play well and down the stretch in games and they make bonehead mistakes and stupid fouls and miss buckets that they should make and the shot selection gets weird but teams that just suck they get run out of the building more often than not um this team this team doesn't do that they don't get run out of the building very much I mean I guess Florida blew them out before the blows out everybody here lately especially um Alabama kind of got them pretty good but Alabama's really good outside of those teams I mean Tennessee got them late but even in that game they were in the game

for a long time um you know that Saturday they made plays that if they made some of those plays earlier in the year we'd probably be having a different conversation right now yeah I mean that's really that simple I mean some of the proof of concept if you go and look at the LSU game before they they they blew it in the last three minutes when they blew a seven point lead over the last week against LSU and Auburn there was some oh this is what they had in mind with Scott and with uh Corinne Johnson playing pretty well in the minutes that he was on the floor and and and letting uh Cameron I'm being more creative off the ball at times um some of what you I think some of what they envisioned you're like oh so that's what you were thinking about now it doesn't change anything you know I mean they still their path to the post

season is a a a five day five game roll through the SEC and Nashville that is is unrealistic to put it nicely um but yeah I mean the fact that they haven't quit into Chris's credit he said as much they had kind of had every reason in the world to not play as hard as they played and they went on the road and played really hard and got to play spoiler and they put a bomb and I know that's not the appropriate term given the what's going on in the world right now but they cratered as you said Auburn's NCAA tournament hopes um that was a big big loss for the Tigers there they're still metrically in it because 68 teams have to make it but I don't think they're making the tournament and that loss was a killer and they have what is pretty positively a loss coming on Saturday so yeah when you talk about their record and whatnot I mean that's going to be

11 league losses at that point yeah so give Ole Miss a lot of credit I mean they played really hard and and you know when the 12 point lead was cut to two at a place that's typically hard to play it would have been very easy for them to count a panic and get tight and go ahead and finish blowing it and end up blowing another game like some of the games they've blown here recently at Texas A&M comes to mind but they didn't they made the plays got it done they have a chance this week at home against Vanderbilt who made a tough game but it's winnable they almost beat them in Nashville and at home against South Carolina which is a game they'll be favored to win you know they've got a chance to go into the tournament with a little momentum and feeling good about themselves and at least you kind of put yourself in the best possible spot to try to make an impossible run that's that's all that's left but that's at least that's better than than

getting to Nashville on a 14 game losing streak where you're the you have no momentum at all if you did I mean again they've got a long way to go it was a one win after they lost 10 but let's say they did have a two and a week how hot I mean can they what are they like 14th max in the league uh that would put them at six wins when they're 14th right now yeah but that would put them at six SEC wins I guess they would have a puncher's chance of passing state and and maybe even Oklahoma yeah Oklahoma's playing a little better I don't know who they have the last week of the season but they finished with Texas I don't know who they have and Oklahoma beat Ole Miss yeah so they have a top breaker problem I mean again this is completely irrelevant I was just curious yeah I haven't even looked at it is it still just the first four teams on opening night no no no it's eight teams on Wednesday okay got it so if you're the nine you play the 16

that's right I don't know that's right okay then four through I'm sorry five through eight play on Thursday one through four still get the double buy to Friday okay sounds good so I mean you know but look if is there a world where they win a game in Nashville and you know line up and place somebody on Thursday with hey let's just let it all hang out sure that'd be fun you know who knows and you know and then if you happen to win that one you go hey you like and Chris Beard has said this and it's the only way you can approach it you you have to go one game at a time and you have to go hey as long as they let us play we've got a chance to earn a spot in the tournament is it unlikely you damn right I've got a better chance at growing ahead of here is it is it possible it's all you know in a sport where

crazy does happen there's a there's a there's a some one tenth of one percent or whatever where you pull it off and so as long as you have a chance to play you go play and so I think for them the week the week matters because you want to go into Nashville with some momentum and let it be fun and see if you can win a game on Wednesday and then you play a team on Thursday that's got some flaws and maybe you pull it off and then you walk into Friday and you stare at a Florida or a Alabama or a Tennessee or whatever and you go well there goes nothing here goes nothing right in there you know I mean there's nothing there's nothing that reverses what's happened earlier in the year that that that's that stuff is going to be discussed when the time comes and the time will probably come sometime next week in Nashville but you you give yourself a chance to play as long as you can as I go into our final break we'll come back look some SEC basketball

I know we're all shocked that Chad Baker Mazaros USC career looks like it's ending oddly as he is now off the Trojan's team after being their leading score uh that he and Eric Musselman didn't see eye to eyes one of the shots I mean I am I am completely blown away that that was not a match made in heaven between the two of them as they move forward having having met both of those people I am absolutely stunned that it did not work out that that he was unable to live up to Musselman's expectations blows me away I know one saw that coming so you quickly about chicory market chicory market dot com is the uh sorry is the website chicory market located right there on North Lamar midtown shopping center and ox for everything from drag goods meets to create great produce fruits vegetables a lot of different options available from them they got new specials every single month the prices keep getting better

had texts on both coaches yelling at each other John Kelly Perry and Todd golden I don't even know who had the tweet over the weekend but I did really enjoy it for somebody goes at least in the SEC the coaches are just very clear about who they don't like like we don't have to wonder like the SEC basketball coaches you're you're very aware immediately from who is not getting along and on the same page in this league I think I think when they sit down in the meetings I don't think anybody's clamoring to sit next to Todd golden he created he's created more than his share of enemies in the league but hey I'm gonna tell you this now he's good though boy on TV to watching Saturday night had Ole Miss Auburn on but I was keeping an eye on that one because it got a lot of hype as a potential you know high level game if Florida plays like that if Florida plays like that they're winning a title that that is what they the way they played in the front court against Arkansas

and our in front courts Arkansas's weakness but the way they played in the front court who they are relentless they come at you in waves with multiple bigs is it how or how I'm not sure how you say his name is emerging as a lottery pick boogie flan was really good the kid from Princeton who transferred in who started slow is really playing golden's type of basketball right now they're good they're really good there to me to me the only team in the country that I think could play with them on a night where they played that well is Duke yeah you kind of have a quartet right now with Duke Florida Michigan and Arizona that to some degree have separated Michigan had a big injury oh did they I mean yeah they lost a key player um I like Michigan they're good I think Duke's better I think Florida's better I think

Florida would be able to neutralize Lyndon board in a in a in a big tournament game Arizona's really good big 12's really good those big 12 teams are going to come out very battle tested yeah when they get into the tournament but um I thought Saturday I'm sure I'm sure Arkansas fans were were very disheartened they probably should be but nobody was beating Florida and Gainesville you didn't have at Florida as one of your necessary wins when you were looking at the schedule so no matter what the score was it counts the same it'd be I they were spent when hell of a comeback in Knoxville for Alabama they were down 40 to 28 at the break we're getting completely dictated by the volunteers they outscore them 43 to 29 in the second half to win 71 69 Batman out 12 and 4 in the SEC Tennessee 10 and 6 you got 25 from right so long Saturday for the Crimson Tide so big win for uh for them Kentucky handled Vanderbilt pretty effort effortlessly on Saturday they're

up by 15 and three yeah it looks really good the whole way I know we've done a lot of Pope stuff and Kentucky stuff but Kentucky looked looked at the part pretty much all day Saturday against a good Vanderbilt team Mississippi State is on quit watch they have gotten popped multiple times in their past few games and they get beat by 24 in Starkville to Missouri on Saturday nobody had a better week than Missouri getting a big win in the midweek and then winning on Saturday in a needed capacity they are now 10 and 6 in the SEC they're in 88 64 over the Bulldogs they're definitely in there they're playing for seat now they get can't remember who they get on midweekly home uh and then they play Arkansas at home on Saturday um you know they've got to win over Florida which looks better and better and better on their resume um yeah Missouri's the team if you tell me let me look if you tell me they lost in the first round I'm not stunned but if you told me Missouri got to the sweet 16 and made some noise I buy it they don't they don't have a super talented roster but

they have a roster that fits and then Mitchell's a really good player who can carry you on a given day if they get they get the right kind of draw they they're they're they're dangerous Georgia had to have it got it they're now eight and eight in the league after an 87 68 win over South Carolina Carolina 3 and 13 in the SEC and uh big win for Texas on the road they go into college station dominate second half and win 76 70 over the Aggies Texas now 9 and 7 in the SEC 18 and 11 overall A&M 19 and 10 9 and 7 yeah Texas is quietly had a pretty good month A&M has pretty loudly had a pretty bad month yeah I know Texas is fine they're in and A&M's probably in but I'd be a little nervous if I were them I'd I'd be a little I'd want to have at least a week that I have a pulse yeah. Oklahoma gets a win among the uh seller jewelers they're 5

and 11 out in the SEC over LSU in Baton Rouge 83 67 on Saturday to uh to close that up so yeah now let's I said about them all year I they're better than their record they if you are what you are I get it but I've watched them a few times I've never thought they were just some terrible team they just haven't gotten it done in a league where only a couple teams were quote bad really really only South Carolina's bad they're the only team in the league that's kind of un incapable of doing anything against you um everybody else at least has a pulse and if you don't play well on the given day you can get beaten that's happened to Oklahoma a lot kind of like it happened Ole Miss. Texas A&M probably uh should try to find a way to beat Kentucky at home on uh Tuesday night that's my recommendation for the the Aggies. Yeah let's see Saturday they play they're at LSU. Oh better win that one. Yeah

current unusual punishment is the Mississippi State Bulldogs having to go to Gainesville on Wednesday night won't be a lot of energy there for uh for Mississippi State. I don't have a hell of a lot of energy either they they they've used up it on Saturday and they celebrated a championship and all that stuff but they're pretty relentless right now they did not lose in the month of February and they might not lose in the month of March either. Duke destroyed a pretty good Virginia team on Saturday 77 51 at Cameron. Arizona popped Kansas 84 61 even with Peterson playing well he had 24 but Arizona dominated that game and then in a battle of really good big 12 teams Texas tech goes on the road and beats Iowa State 82 73 there in Ames. Yeah just a few from around the league. St. Mary's all the way who we saw in the uh exhibition they have had a hell of a year they're 27 and 4 and beat Gonzaga on Saturday. I'm not surprised they were really good that day in October.

They were they were good uh scrolling through. Yeah it's about it from around the league. Yeah Ole Miss women yesterday they gave up 23 points in the first quarter uh Peyton was there coverage level 24-7 for that one um end up getting beat they closed the gap to two or three or something with about three minutes left. I had it on. I actually thought they were going to come back and win and they just made zero plays down the stretch ended up getting beat by eight or something like that. In the game uh it has been several weeks to forget for them. They went from 100 percent in contention and had kind of having a host spot. They've lost six of their last eight to close the regular season. They are the seven seed in the SEC tournament. They finish eight in the league. I believe it's where that ended up as they head to the carolina's now for uh the winner of a nm and somebody. I'm sorry it's on the it's in the story. There were almost 24-7. I do not remember off top of my head who they get in the first round. Maybe Auburn. Maybe it's the winner of a nm and Auburn uh in that uh in that game. Probably a nm. Yeah yeah yeah. A nm is actually playing

well. They've won a few. They're trying to get in some semblance of intitablay contention. I saw a bracketology. I think it's Charlie Kreme who does the women's for ESPN. He had uh he had them a five or a six seed. Five felt really generous generous. I would assume six seven is the line. They ended up uh being on something along that line uh the athletic as well. I had it up. They had them as a six seed. This is not possible because I don't think conferences can play each other in the first round. They actually had them matched up with Mississippi State in the first round. But I don't think that's even legal. So yeah I wouldn't I wouldn't think that that would that would shock me. That would get some headlines. But it had them in a quad with Ole Miss Mississippi State Duke and Mignis. So it would be in Durham against the the Lady Bulldogs. I mean blue devils. You can do that. Yeah I don't think they can do that. I know I said six seven. You guys shut up. I hate that thing. I can't stand it. I apologize. Yes whatever. Is that not over yet? Are we still doing it?

Man I don't let's. I'll lead a very simple. Okay. Existence. I don't really know. I'm just wondering. I've never been less connected to society than I am right now. Okay. Anyway so that was it from one's basketball. They're still lacking their best defender in a in a in a in a front court presence. It's been a really struggle for them here. These last these last few weeks. But anyway that's that as we move into conference tournament time for the women. We'll get some more baseball some more basketball probably some more football tomorrow as well. Get to a little bit of everything. Five game week for Ole Miss. They play Memphis on Tuesday. Vanderbilt basketball in Oxford on Tuesday as well. Baseball against UNA on Wednesday. And then the Evansville aces in town over the weekend to close non-conference play prior to next week when

Ole Miss is in Austin, Texas for the first time for SEC action. Do you want to be a little from Evansville to Texas. That's going to be a little step up in a in class coming there from the nationals to the Dodgers there. Again hate every part of you Austin's tourism council that's south by Southwest the first few days of that coming up when Ole Miss is in town for the for the long horns that week. So yeah again you are as we said last last time baseball and football get your pocketbook ready because the F one race is going on in the fall and then South by Southwest there as well. Yeah generous as my kids say we're leaving 6 7 in 2025. That's good. Glad we're all moving on. Very happy about that. Yeah USM in the midweek that's one tough week for the Rebels because the Golden Eagles kind of have it rolling right now and that's in the midweek prior to Texas. All right a big big weekend in the Eagles did they pop them pretty good. Yeah they popped tech pretty good and

apparently tech was pretty excited about it had big crowds especially on Friday and Saturday for that series in Rustin and they got sent home side as you would say. USM dominated yep. Yeah they're good. USM is really good. They've done a great job there under under on the rise replacing Scott Berry. All right back tomorrow pressure by the stream and otherwise and we will talk to you again. Water usually wins. It rots wood and tears docks apart unless you build with trex.
