165% Rise In Older People Needing Support Over The Last Three Years

Clare FM

About this episode

A new report has revealed a sharp rise in the number of older people needing support, with demand for services increasing by 165% over the past three years. More than 46,000 people were assisted last year alone, as many face a combination of health issues, mobility challenges, financial pressure and loneliness. While more people are living longer, many are doing so with increasingly complex needs — raising questions about how we support older people to live independently and stay connected in their communities. On Tuesday's Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Eugene Philips, Quin-based Digital Ambassador with Active Retirement Ireland, to discuss what’s behind these trends and what can be done to help.
