About this episode
I recorded this episode literally from my car right after an all-day Feng Shui Art Workshop — still in the energy of it.
Here's what I discovered: judgment isn't something to shame yourself for. It's a signal. A clue that your nervous system is feeling unsafe, closed off, or resistant to something new.
I also talk about what happens when beauty is still developing — how messy and disorganized it can look right before it becomes something meaningful. And why stepping away when you're too close might be exactly what you need.
In this episode:
- Why judgment is a signal, not a flaw
- What resistance is really protecting you from
- The in-between stage — in art, in hair, in life
- Why stepping away can help you see more clearly
- A gentle reminder that we're all still in process

Welcome back to finding joy in the heart. I'm your host, Suzanne and Laura Barron. How is resistance showing up in your life? Have you ever noticed it? There's a million of different ways that resistance can show up in our lives. I just went to this amazing thing, Feng Shui art workshop. I just literally just got in my car, just finished, it was all day Saturday. And I went to it in June, I shared about it on this podcast. And I signed up, even though I was in full resistance. I signed up because I knew it would be so, so fun and so beneficial. Here's a few things I learned at this workshop about me. One, judgment shows up when I'm in resistance. So I get very judgy about myself and in mid-lead others, I don't really like telling you that part when I'm resisting something.
So rather than thinking of judgment as something negative, I can see it as a signal to what am I resisting? What am I closed off on? Where am I feeling unsafe? Because that's what it really has to do with. When we have those low level emotions, our nervous system is feeling unsafe in some way. And so we get tight, we close off. We have limited thinking, we move into fear or worry. So that was one awareness I had. And we had three different art projects that we did. And I have to tell you, I was very judgy of my work. And here's the cool thing that I learned is that in the beginning, when things aren't just, just getting started, we're just moving into flow, we're not even in flow yet. Maybe we're still in the figuring out part. I'm not a big planner.
So I just went for it. You know, a lot of women laid out and organized their boards and like, that's not me. I just want to jump in and get started. And but then I get a little bit into it. And I'm like, ooh, I don't like it. I'm in a mask. This is too busy. Those are all the thoughts in my head. But this time, I kept going. You know, and I stepped away for a little bit because I had to go do something. And then I came back and I'm like, ooh, it's looking better than I realized. So some more lessons stepping away. When we're feeling like out of flux, step away because we're too close and we can't see clearly. And then when beauty is developing, it might look messy. It might feel disorganized. And if we stop, we never get to true fruition. But if we can see when we're in that in-between stage,
it's almost like when your hair is growing out, right? It's that in-between stage, we're not liking it. And if we just keep at it, keep going, keep leaning in, we have no idea what beauty we may create. Or that we're creating. And so those are some of my key messages. For me, and if they help you, that's why I'm sharing them here. We are so hard on ourselves. We looked to be perfect because somewhere along the line, the way we were told that we needed to be perfect. Maybe it was in school that we needed grades. I think maybe that contributed to it. No being graded, et cetera. But we're all still just developing. No matter our age, what age we are, or where we are in our lives, we're in process. We're in flow. So be gentle and kind to yourself.
Your beauty is evolving. And maybe you've arrived. Maybe you see it and that's beautiful. And maybe you're like me still in process. But you know what, we're all in process. And we're arriving at different spaces at different times. And then we start the process again. And then we keep moving. I thank you so much for spending this time with me at Finding Joy in the Hard. If this resonated with you and you think it can benefit, even one person, I would really love it if you'd share it with them. If you're on an iPhone, you literally tap the screen. You'll see those three hamburger dots on the upper right hand corner. You tap that, you'll see a drop-down menu, and you'll say share. And then you can text or email it to whoever you'd like. Your presence matters so much to me. And so I thank you for tuning in, whether you tune in every week or once in a while. It means the world to me.
Remember you're so much stronger than you think you are. Until next time, be well. And thank you for spending your time with me at Finding Joy in the Hard. And then you can text or email it to whoever you'd like. Until next time, be well.
