10 Facts That Sink Noah’s Ark
About this episode
Noah’s Ark has everything a good myth needs: divine rage, mass extinction, a magic boat, incest-based repopulation, and absolutely no concern for animal waste management. Unfortunately for biblical literalists, it also has more holes than the boat probably would have. This week, Husband brings ten scientific, historical, and logistical facts that thoroughly sink the Genesis flood story while Wife repeatedly asks the important questions, including how the hell kangaroos supposedly got from Mount Ararat to Australia.
From the complete lack of enough water to cover every mountain to geological layers that stubbornly refuse to show evidence of a worldwide flood, the science is not exactly cooperating with Ken Ham’s floating petting zoo. We dig into the orderly fossil record, ancient ice cores, genetic bottlenecks, freshwater fish, animal migration, specialized diets, ventilation, manure, and the horrifying amount of labor required for eight people to maintain thousands of animals aboard a wooden ship.
Then we get to the awkward literary history: the Genesis flood story was not even the original. Earlier Mesopotamian traditions, including Atrahasis, Ziusudra, and the Epic of Gilgamesh, already featured a chosen man, a giant boat, a catastrophic flood, animals, released birds, and a post-flood sacrifice. Apparently, biblical originality was also lost at sea.
The episode wraps with a discussion of why the hosts are protesting the Ark Encounter in Northern Kentucky. This is not just about mocking an oversized religious tourist attraction. It is about pushing back against anti-science propaganda, public support for religious institutions, and the growing effort to force biblical mythology into classrooms, laws, and public life.
