Zechariah 10: Now That He is Here

Welcome back to the Bible Breakdown podcast with our host Pastor Brandon today, Zachariah that chapter 10 and today's title is, now that he is here, now that he is here. What's been going on over the past several chapters is God is saying, come home, come home, come home. And then after they get back home, he's saying, I'm going to come home to you. I'm going to come home to you. Well, now what? Now that the king is here, what is his bidding? What is he going to do? We're going to find out today. The king is not here to play. Okay? Well, if you've been with us over the past several days, we've been walking through Zachariah where God is encouraging the people of Zachariah, of Zachariah's time. I feel like they've been forgotten, like they've been left behind. God is telling them over and over again. No, no, I got you. God will return if you will return back to him. And that's been the whole focus and over the past few chapters. God has really been doubling down on that. He's saying, come on home, come on home. And then he says, and I'm coming home to you too, my hands are already out, but I'm coming. And then yesterday it was crowning the king. And then today it's like, okay, well, now that the king is here, what's he going to do? Spoiler alert. He's going to clean up. That's what exactly what he's going to do.

2:02So if you're ready, we're going to jump into Zachariah chapter 10 verse one says this, ask the Lord for rain in the spring for he makes the storm clouds. And he will send showers of rain so every field becomes lush pasture. Household gods give worthless advice. Fortune tellers predict only lies and interpreters of dreams pronounce falsehoods and give no comfort. So my people are wandering like lost sheep. They are attacked because they have no shepherd. My anger burns against your shepherds and I will punish these leaders. For the Lord of heaven's armies has arrived to look after Judah, his flock. He will make them strong and glorious, like proud war horses in battle. And Judah will come the cornerstone, the tentpeg, the bow for battle and all the rulers. They will be like mighty warriors in battle, trampling their enemies and the mud under their feet.

3:04Since the Lord is with them, as they fight, they will overthrow even the enemy's horsemen. I will strengthen Judah and save Israel. I will restore them because of my compassion. It will be as though I had never been rejected. Never rejected them. For I and the Lord their God who hears their cries. The people of Israel will become like mighty warriors and their hearts will be made happy as if by wine. Their children too will see it and be glad. Their hearts will rejoice in the Lord. When I whistle to them, they will come running. For I have redeemed them. In the few who are left, they will grow as numerous as they were before. And though I have scattered them like seeds among nations, they will still remember me and distant lands. And they and their children will survive and return again to Israel. I will bring them back from Egypt and gather them from Assyria. I will resettle them in Gilead and Lebanon until there is no more room for them all.

4:09They will pass safely through the sea of distress. For the ways of the sea will be held back and the waters of the Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be crushed and the rule of Egypt will end. But by my power I will make my people strong and by my authority they will go wherever they wish. I the Lord have spoken. Wow. It is this idea of when the king comes. He sets everything right. And that is important because I have no people before who have said, if I turn my life over to God, if I truly give God everything, what will he do? What will he take? And it is this idea of there is at least one sin, one addiction, one thing that that one is personal. Like I don't mind giving you this and I don't mind giving you that. But God wants everything like everything. What do I get in return? Well, the idea is, salvation is kind of hard to beat.

5:12You know, eternal home in heaven. Don't go to hell. That's great. But what we don't understand is, is what God asks us for? We can't keep anyway. God asks us for our rejection, our addiction, our shame, our guilt, our fear, our sins, all of these negative things, all of all the things and He gives us life, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, patience, self-control. He gives us all these things, but we got to turn everything over to Him and to trust that when the king comes, when he shows up, he brings his goodness with him. Can I tell you, if you've ever wondered, well, if I go all in for God, if I give him everything I have, what will be left? Like I'm afraid of going all in for God. I'm afraid of giving my addictions and my everything. I don't know. I don't want to be taking advantage of. Can I tell you, you're never more at peace than when you're at the very middle of God's

6:17hands. He is trustworthy. And just like we read today, when you give everything over to God, He brings you victory. You didn't even know you needed, but you got to go all in. You got to give it all to Him. You got to let Him be the king, let Him be the ruler. Not me, not your best friend, not your great uncle, not Jesus is the king. You know, we make Him the king of our lives. Watch what happens. Let's pray together right now. God, thank you so much for today. Thank you, God, that you are the king, that you are holy, you're in control. Lord, we give you everything we have. Oh, there's so many things in this world we don't understand, but the one thing we do understand is that we want you to be in control. We want you to lead. And as you lead, we trust that you are taking us where we need to be. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. And well, God's Word says in Zachariah 1, verse 3, return to me and I will return to you.
