Psalm 57: How To Worship While Waiting

Waiting on God can be harder than the crisis itself, especially when you have no idea when the answer is coming. Psalm 57 meets us right there. We open with David hiding in a cave, hunted by Saul, unsure how the story will turn out yet convinced God will keep His promise. That tension is familiar: we trust God will act, but the silence makes every day feel longer than it should.

We talk through a simple analogy that exposes our expectations: if you order something online and you know the delivery date, you can be patient. Take away the date, and every day feels like failure. That’s often how prayer feels. God may already have a plan, but we interpret the wait as unfaithfulness. Psalm 57 pushes back and shows a better way to live in the gap, grounded in God’s character rather than our preferred timeline.

Then we break down David’s pattern for “worship while waiting”: first, cry out to God for mercy and help; second, acknowledge the reality of the trouble; third, rest in hope and exalt God anyway. The takeaway is simple and challenging: every day God has not answered your prayer yet is not a day of God being unfaithful, it is one day closer to realizing He has been faithful all along.
