YouTube BEATS Disney Then Rolls Out Longer Unskippable Ads!
About this episode
YouTube just became the world's largest media company in 2025, beating Disney's entire media business — and they're celebrating by rolling out longer unskippable ads on the TV app. The same platform that used to feel like free internet TV is now forcing you to sit through 30-second spots you can't skip unless you pay for Premium. Clownfish TV breaks down how YouTube went from the cool underdog to just another greedy cable company, why they're making the experience worse on purpose, and what this means for everyone still trying to watch without paying extra.Watch the podcast episodes on YouTube and all major podcast hosts including Spotify.CLOWNFISH TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary podcast that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer’s point of view. So YouTube is rolling out non-skippable ads on televisions and people are concerned that this is the end of the internet and of YouTube. As we've known it, this is coming from the daily.youtube viewers fear the end of the internet after platform rolls out longer unskippable ads. In a March 2nd post on their ads and commerce blog, aimed at advertisers, the company outline plans to expand ad formats on connected TVs, including 30-second spots that can't be skipped unless viewer subscribed to YouTube Premium.
So this totally tracks because I've been talking about the changes coming to YouTube and they just boasted about being bigger than Disney. There was an article in the Hollywood Reporter where they said they are the biggest streaming platform out there and it seems like they are trying very hard to compete with Disney Plus and Hulu and Paramount and Netflix. That's what they want to be. And I don't think this is a good thing for people who are on YouTube or for viewers who want a YouTube experience and not another streaming platform. But let's see what some of the backlash is like. YouTube is about to reduce the time I spend watching YouTube, I guess it will be good for my health. Red one comment in response to the news. YouTube cares about so much that they are forcing us off of it right another. Yeah, I know they've been really aggressive with the ad blockers and I'm going to tell you as a YouTuber we have seen the damage in real time. A lot of long form channels especially have fallen off in the last year or so and it's not because people don't want the content.
It's because they're using AI to push the content they want to push in front of you and a lot of it I'm going to be honest I think it's going to be Hollywood going forward. In addition to that, they have forced users who are using ad blockers off the platform because you can't really do an end run around it. And yeah, so a lot of people have lost viewers because of these pretty greedy decisions on a part of YouTube. They want to take the audience, YouTube wants to be everything but YouTube and I think this is going to backfire on them catastrophically right. Another person said I'm starting to think the end of the internet maybe a good thing for us actually. This person here on X says so basically companies pay YouTube to show ads and we pay YouTube to not show ads. Yep. Rents repeat profit, longer ads and unskippable ads have been a point of contention for users and have escalated as YouTube continues to crack down on ad blockers while promoting YouTube premium subscriptions. Again, they want to be Netflix, they want to be Disney, they want to be Hulu, they
hell, they want to be Paramount Plus, they want to be Crunchyroll, they want to be everything but YouTube. What do you guys think about that?
