3:27Iowa State and Bullying Green. I get it when you come from a lower level. You think about things differently. I also always heard that the game after Iowa is a physically a hard one and you're down a bunch of guys. Excited yesterday. We'll get into all the injuries. Yeah, and then honestly, let's honest our, I would say it's probably new enough with this program that you can't be 100% sure about anything. I know Bullying Green got destroyed by Nebraska. It's, and obviously it's everybody what 24, but absolutely. You can't just waltz in. And we've seen that game so many times. I mean, think about Akron, you know, in 18, Ecky but Arkansas stayed a year ago. Like you can't just show up and think you're going to win by four touchdowns.

4:30Lot, lot, lot for Iowa State to work on. I kind of think they will. I doubt so. It would make my life a lot better. It would make Tyler Rolls-A-Life a lot better if they won by four touchdowns. Yeah, they could be, we'll get into all that with the offense. We are presented as always by our friends, McDion. The couple of months, like basically media day, big 12 media day on is just insane. It's like the busiest of the entire year for me right there with the March madness for a year, but that's fun. Yeah. The preseason prep is my least favorite part. And then once the game started, it's like, ah, all right, this is fun again. So we have a lot to break down. There was a report that came out in the athletic this morning that really backed everything we've been saying. But it's good to see all of these numbers put together. So basically the athletic used it's because none of this is public, right? Like, there's no exact... Team payrolls. Correct. There's no exacts with these payrolls. It's all kind of, well, this is what they're telling me. The Iowa State number lined up exactly with what we had heard. Which is? The 13 to 17 million range, which would make Iowa State according to the athletic, the fourth lowest payroll in all of Power 4 football. So again, keep things into perspective when you go to Twitter and you're upset. It's a real thing, okay? I would say just in general in these NIL numbers, there's a lot of fake numbers out there.

6:34This, the athletic one is almost dead on from what I've heard. Well, industry. From what I've heard about all of these numbers, like I talked to a lot of people in the league. Yes. And then I know some people in the big 10, too. And like, this looks really accurate. Yeah, that's to say, it's very accurate. So run down the big 12 real quick. So Iowa State is the only team it's ahead of would be Cincinnati. But Cincinnati's in the 14 to 16 million range. So this is basically the same. They're right about the same. Arizona's 13 to 18 million. Kansas is 15 to 17 million. Oklahoma State is 15 to 19 million. Houston is 15 to 19 million. UCF is 15 to 20 million. So you're really in the ballpark with a huge chunk of your league, which is great. We're just talking about a national thing. Yeah. This is why we've discussed with the big 12. It's just a lot lower than the, you know, contemporaries in the big 10. I see now I also thought it was notable that Iowa. Mm-hmm. Iowa State just played is only in the 17 to 21 million range.

7:39So there at the low end of the big 10. That was my takeaway from this. Wasn't necessarily, oh, Iowa State's fourth lowest because we, there's a lot of people, a lot of programs in that would all just say the 14 to 18 million dollar range. And you can get really nitpicky at that point. Those programs are all pretty similar. But at the high, high end, there's not that many. So that kind of echoes what my philosophy is throughout this entire era is you don't need to be first. You would rather not be last, but if you're just in the neighborhood, you're in the neighborhood. And then honestly, the fact that you can at least spend in Iowa State's case 15 million is way better than it was two years ago when you were getting out spent by, by 8X, 10X, by so much programs. What's look at the top of the big 12? Yeah. And this is what's more important. It means like you can't be three, like if you're, if it's two X, like that's not great. Like Jimmy would need, Jimmy wants more, Jimmy needs more.

8:40But it wasn't like three years ago. Again, when there was some programs that had 10 times what Iowa State was working with. So Texas Tech is estimated at 38 to 42 million. And then you have to go all the way down. Shoot, I just got to keep scrolling here. And this, again, is the big 12's problem. How far I have to scroll to find number two, which would be TCU surprisingly 22 to 25 million. I would have thought for sure that BYU and Utah would be there. BYU's 20 to 25 million. So BYU's basically the same as like Kansas State, which is 19 to 22. Utah 18 to 22. West Virginia 18 to 22. That one surprised me there higher than I thought they would be. You get the picture. You get the picture. And just on that front, it's obviously huge Iowa State to continue to invest in that area. And I think just from a far president cook realizes this and the new athletic director,

9:45whoever that may be, interview is still ongoing. By the way, that's priority number one. It just is. Like you can't, you can't be fourth worst. And that's, that is what it is. Like again, I, we sway them in this world for a long time. Iowa State is kind of what its donor base is. However, there are ways to get more creative. And we've seen it. We've literally seen a light year's change in the last year. The concerts. I mean, we're just going to bring one up. That's a huge, that's a huge dub. Iowa State has, and I know we're going to see it on Saturday. It's going to be a talker on Saturday. The increase in donation requirements, the increase in ask and season tickets, the increase in parking, all this is lines up here. So another reason why not being two and ten this year is so important. Exactly. Because you can't lose the base if you look, start, but I get it. Like if you're a fan, you're like, I can't keep it next. I don't know. What do I have left? So that's where the creativity comes in of finding these, these other revenue streams.

10:48And that is going to be the number one job for the athletic director is finding new ways. And you see it with beer. You see it with all the stuff in and around the stadium now. Again, those concerts, hopefully Sightown, I mean, that's a long, that's a longer ask, by the way, for that to really start paying dividends. But you get the point here of why it is so important in this era to keep up and why it's important for psychopans to keep showing up to. And I also, yeah, I do. And I also would point out too that you do wonder if some of these schools are spending wisely as well. You don't. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, that's the most important. So I wonder if while Iowa State needs to keep growing, I'm not saying I think Ohio State and Oregon are going to come down because I don't. 50 million. Yeah, I just, yeah. You know, with all the, you know, you can't watch a game with these protect college sports act commercials coming on.

11:48That's, we're going there. So on that note, I mean, we'll hopefully talk more football here, but this is notable because that again, if you want to look at what is accurate budget numbers for payrolls for football teams, go to the athletic. It's almost dead on. But that passed a procedural vote yesterday in the Senate. I think could be voted on as soon as Friday, the Protect College Sports Act. And I think we're, we're getting really close. I think it's going to go through the question is going to be what's in it after everybody is picked it apart. Totally agree. But that again, what puts some parameters within this spending, if that would happen, I got would make what the top is here, but like the absolute max anybody could ever do legally. But if it's a law, you wonder if they're going to be as crazy about circumcise. Yeah, I guess my, my feeling would be they're still going to like line up in I L deals for their players and stuff like that.

12:49It's not going to be or they're run away freight train anymore. And I already think it's slowing that that the front of the train is not running away as fast anymore. So you're, because the schools, it good. I'm telling you Chris, this is going to, you're going to see it throughout this year. And you've seen across college football already in the non conference. I think program 66 and the power for how many, I mean, how many are in the power for is there just 68, 60, something like that. So whatever. I think it's, I think it's closer to 10 than anyone wants to admit. Now one through 10, those top 10 programs. Yeah, they're swimming in a different pool, but 10 to 68 is really, really close. Why does like when I look at these numbers and good on them for trying, but like you, we've read about the debt problems that like UCLA has. They're spending 26 to 30 million. And they don't have people that go to games. Right. Like there's, this is fascinating to me. I could, I could mess around with this chart.

13:51It's a free article on the athletic. I tweeted it out earlier and I put it on my Facebook page. But there's like really good graphics with it and everything. So you should go and check it out. I think that, you know, the other thing too that I found really interesting was the Iowa thing. And also I was looking at the Penn State thing where Campbell and his staff went because what they were doing in like Penn State. Yeah, where's Penn State? I mean, they're in the upper half of the Big Ten, but according to this thing, one, two, three, four, five. So they would be six in the big. How much money though? 29 to 32 compared to 13 to 17. But the whole point that I'm making is we've gone, we've had this discussion like at least with Iowa State's 15 and the big 12, you can compete.

14:52If you took 15 and the big 10 on a week in week out base, it's good luck. It's going to be hard. Yeah. I mean, you are still who you play against and that's why I'm still very optimistic about Iowa State's chances in the big 12 as long as you keep investing. You know, and this is the heart. I get it as a feeling like, man, I keep getting asked and now getting asked to buy a $13 beer, which I'm getting asked to round up when I'm at the concession stand. But this is the season tickets that donation level is the baseline that Iowa State has to have if it even wants to be. I mean, they're fourth to last right now and that is with that baseline. So going to continue to need to find ways and again, if I'm David Cook and I'm doing my interviews with the athletics director in the next two weeks, that's my number one question is how are you going to raise the bar revenue wise? Like figure it out because that's the biggest thing for Iowa State going forward and it is not, it's not just Jimmy. It's TJ too.

15:54You know, and I'm sure women's basketball and those other sports too are like, well, about it. And yeah, absolutely. I mean, everybody needs more help and more creativity to keep Iowa State in striking distance. Well, okay. We'll get to actual football. We weren't planning on doing that. We're just bowling green on the other not probably. They're not on the list. This is only power for them. But that's like, this is what I'm saying, Chris. All these big 12 schools, you know, are in that $15 to just say $30 million range. All right. But then you got the bowling greens of the world that are probably at. Not even million. I was going to say to them, they even get them. So like that is a get if I go back to my time when you're trying to keep a player, it players aren't dumb. It's okay. If I can get $700,000, $700,000 and 1.1 million, I know that follow me here. They feel closer than 50 to 450. You know what I mean? Yeah. And that's, that was the problem a couple of years ago.

16:55It's like, well, wait a second. They're offering me a million dollars and I'm getting 80 here. Like I can't, that doesn't make sense. But when you're at least over a certain threshold, then when I get over the $500,000 numbers, like, okay, well, I can maybe then you can have a conversation. You can have a conversation exactly. Yeah. Because it's like, well, I have a girlfriend here. I'm still making a very nice living. Yeah. I like it. I like my classes. But if it's 50,000 compared to 500, that is a totally, and that again, that is why I feel better about what I've said is now, even then it was two years ago, because we were so far behind, not necessarily just straight, you know, subtract the highest from the lowest it was. When you're 6x, 7x behind, it just feels different than when it's only 2x, even though the numbers might be the same anyway. No, I completely understand. We've been pretty locked in on this and this kind of verified that I thought coming out

18:56We're going to find like a different thing to buy sell and hold every week. And I would like to do playmakers for Iowa State because that's a big topic of conversation. It's the stock report. So we're selling Evan Boyd because he's out for the season, unfortunately. But I don't want to sell the young man. It's just he ain't going to be in service to the site. It does have two years left though. Yeah, so he's going to be back. What's the five for five thing? Don't know exactly the injury. Jimmy Rogers told us... If you watched it, you knew it. You knew it. It's over. Yeah. Yeah. Other injuries worth noting before we get into this playmaker conversation, it sounded like Benny Nagoy was like an ankle in day to day. So it just was day to day. Yeah. I mean, I think you could make the point just hold them both out for this game. But we'll see. I don't think that's in Jimmy's DNA. I don't either.

19:57The vibes I'm getting and talking to them after that game. And it... I mean, it was kind of nice. The whole thing was just very... Even like off the record stuff was... We just weren't good enough. There weren't many excuses being made or anything like that. Yeah, I mean, I would say they were pissed. Yeah. They felt like they lost the game. It wasn't a, oh, okay, good for us. We were... Yeah, no. In fact, I think they were starting to get a little annoyed with the amount of people who were saying, oh, well, they played really hard. That's not... This is not the staff's deal. I don't know. He wasn't in a great mood yesterday. No, I mean, I... I think surges of the defensive guys that got a little banged up would be the biggest question mark on Saturday. And again, hopefully, second half, you can get some of that rotation depth in there anyway. This is an interesting bowling team because Holy cow, C-Dub, they're giving up 7.7 yards per carrier right now. Well, so that's why I'm buying Aiden Flora.

20:59Yeah, so we're buying Aiden Flora. And I just... I see something in him. It's there. Like, he's going to pop on here. And it's probably going to be on Saturday. But even if not, like, his best football, like, we are just scratching the surface with him. So again, when we're breaking this down, playmakers for this Iowa State offense who can evolve still buying Aiden Flora. There's nothing he's done the first two weeks that has changed that. But what's going to be exciting for him is I think that line actually, I watched it again. I've nerded. Watch it again the other day. That line's get... It's close. It was pretty good, actually, Saturday. It was fascinating. How much better they looked against Iowa than they did against Seema. Totally agree. And now if you can move... Like, I think Jake Taylor is really, really good. I do love tackle. I think that guy is awesome. Being a good dude. If that line is skirmish, you can move them just a little bit more.

22:01And you give Aiden more space. I think Aiden's going to be good once he has some space. I wish the Utah game was a couple weeks later. Yeah. I just think in that too. Like I wish that it was maybe West Virginia, because West Virginia may be decent. You may have to consider them. I talked to Woody this week. What do you think they're okay? Whatever. Because Woody did the game. Yeah. That'll be a pick-up probably in Aims. I would say. The last three three... Yeah, I don't think it'll be anything more than that. The three three and a half at the top. I don't think Iowa State will... Unless you would beat Utah. Right. That could change the power ratings considerably. But yeah. Yeah, Bob and Bime floor for sure. Again, tell though. I mean, they're still... Got it in the pick-as-pedaway. Apparently got a little banged up after a week one. So that's why he didn't play a lot in Iowa. I did. Yeah. Honestly, I thought the Barnes running back was really good. Yep. You see him more. You see him more. Would my scene, France Wag, if he reps? I... I want... I know that Jimmy's worried about this game and all that... I mean, he...

23:02I get it. He's a coach. Let's keep pet away and flora as fresh as possible. Well, again, with that... You don't get to buy a week before Utah. And obviously, that's a monster game. Yeah, I would love to see separation in that first half and then get some guys, some snaps. But first down, again, we talked about it on Sunday. That's gonna be key. Is... And I'm curious, honestly, because, you know, as we mentioned this weekend, Iowa State ran it 18 of 21 times on first down. That was another top of a conversation in the press conference yesterday for both Rodgers and Roll. Yeah, we probably need to get a little bit more creative on first down. However, this is a bowling green team that gives up eight yards per carry. It's like, you don't want to reinvent the wheel, either. I'm genuinely curious how, I would say, approaches this. Could be a little damp, could be a little wet. We'll see. Well, it's like the guy there... You got to run the ball. Run the ball. It might be damp on the field, but it does look like a decent day. Does it?

24:03Okay. Like, I think Friday's a little soggy, but it looked like Saturday, maybe some showers early, and then it breaks open and is a pretty nice day. Like mid-70s, right? Mid-70s and sunny is what it looks like, but the problem is the amount of water the whole area is getting pounded with right now. It's like one after another. I can't imagine those grass, so I have to be a little bit... I haven't heard anything, but... Man, it... I would think less than 50%. We'll keep you updated once we hear anything from Iowa State. But yes, so I'm buying floor. I love that. You know I'm holding, no? I'm holding Cody Jackson. It's in there. It is 100% in there, and I always say it needs him to... If he comes down with that one ball... No, yeah, yeah. The game's completely... I think you could hold the whole wide receiver group, to be honest with you. I'm going to hold Rayner. Okay? I'm certainly not buying stock in him after the first two games. I'm not selling him.

25:04I'm holding. I need... We need to see more, but as we've discussed, I don't know if the offense is exactly... been called to his benefit because of circumstances in week one, you're getting your feet... Week two. I really do think getting backed up so much impact that Iowa State's play-calling greatly. In your head. Yeah. And he don't want it so screw around. Again, I am not... I'm certainly not selling the young man. I think he's QB1. I love his experience, but I'm not buying him. I thought his press conference was great to get in yesterday. Yeah, like he's awesome. Right, dude. Like he is, and you could see why he walked into that room and had the C cap... You know, right away. I mean, that's why he's a valuable asset, but he has got to keep progressing. Yeah, and I think I don't want to make drastic judgments on the offense after a game against

26:06Seymour and against Iowa team that has always gives people fits that defense does. I thought I was... It was great insight yesterday. When somebody asked about, hey, can you get a reiner going on the run game a little bit more? And I think that would be a constructive criticism I make. He hasn't been a lot of activity in the run game, at least effective. Hit Jimmy Bezos, he said, no, the way I, he's defense, was aligned. The quarterback of the run game just wasn't there. I'm like, I appreciate the honesty. Like, I was just telling us. Yeah. No. No. That means he's like, nope. We weren't trying to. We saw it. It was going to be a disaster, so we didn't try and do it. We didn't even try. I'm like, okay. Well, thanks for... I trust you. It's interesting. You look at that game for both of those teams. Because I would make the argument that I would state as a top three defense that I will will see all year. I'm saying, I thought about it that way. Michigan, Ohio State. I mean, is Washington better?

27:09Probably in the city. Minnesota is right there. I don't think Nebraska will be better than I would state. They may be right there. I don't even know I was scheduled against. So I get it. I guess my point two would be like, Iowa's defense has to be top three that Iowa state will play all year. You talked. I would say that's fair, too. Yeah. The view I use is good. The view I use. Arizona, I think, is nobody respects as much as they should. I think that's a really good defense. Yeah. So my point is... Yep. Yep. Like, they were adequate on offense. They just, you know. That's why I wouldn't... One more... I know. I want... Now... They can get a lot better. Yeah. Yeah. I am not there. I just... But it... It's not just a rainer. It's not... The White receivers got a jump up and catch a damn ball. And that's where... Exactly. But the problem is, I don't see Jaden Higgins in the ball. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.

So clearly, like, they're looking at him and being the same conversation. So then the question... Absolutely. I want to over be like I Don't make a big game play kid. Let's go. Yeah, same with Jackson like Again, I was saying isn't gonna be you know super duper explosive all year however there have been

29:13Three plays four plays in each game that could have been 50 plus sharp and if you hit two of them the whole conversation's different You're two at all at this point. Yep, if you hit two of them against Iowa, but I can want it that's what I Think you I would love to see a I actually see a dominant performance by the office. I do think I've seen enough Aiden market nine twenty nine on September 16th I Think The started November comes up and we're gonna we're gonna think Iowa State's offense over achieve this year Okay, I Do think the D the offensive line I Saw a lot of improvement. They've got to get better no doubt like this isn't a finished product, but if that group Groves consistently And you know the key caveat here. I think is the running back health to because they're I don't know maybe this barons is just a lot better like I don't know but

30:16That's really the caveat here is those cuz I I kind of like did you see this Tweet that Lysico put out one of the I was just going there one of the Iowa players So it was like one of the most unique teams they've ever played against for 35 different offensive sets is what he said Iowa State put out there. That's where it's very anti-micleach roll roll I think roll has it. I really do. I'm a matter of can you put it all together? this year and But that's why Saturday let's let's see some glimpses, please Yeah, let's just start to just see a little bit do it to Eddie George now do it for Troy Davis against Eddie George There is a there is a way where this game plays out though and we have to consider this It's let down set could be let down absolutely if this game's like 20 17 to 10 in the fourth quarter which is entirely possible by the way I mean it again I we've seen these games before when you're in this sandwich spot between

31:19You know the power team in Iowa and that first not that first conference game. Oh, this is this is like the Sunday basketball game after Sihock every new game every year you bet the other team I now I happen to think bowling greens really bad The numbers agree. I think Simo would beat bowling green but Simo's your first game everybody's energetic New you know this is a spot that they look for in Vegas where you just go the other way every time now I actually think Iowa State's gonna roll okay I think that this Rogers is mindset. I think he's a bit of a psycho in like a great way I don't think that they he's a little Ozzelberger where they prepare for Jackson State They'll same way they do Kansas, okay? So like I think Iowa State rolls, but I do think we need to discuss like the possibility of a let down Saturday

Don't say that disrespectfully this team But here's here's how the path that would go if okay, maybe it's a little conditions not great, you know You're a little it's 11 a.m. Sleepy. They hit a big one early You can't quite get the ground game going and then bowling green does possess the ball That's how they're that's their strength. They are a a Run heavy tight end type offense and They're gonna do exactly what I always state Wanted to do to Iowa is get that into a possession a game that's in the low 50s in place And you just kind of grind out make it ugly That's their path for success you get that to a one possession game in the fourth quarter and then That's the that's their playbook. So what I'm looking at offense good put up a 30 spot Okay 35 40 yeah, and I just think just for the crowd It just the body and then the second part of that is you know defense

34:26Cause chaos early. Yeah, I mean this is an Iowa state defense.
