This is One Poem Only, a daily reading, a quiet moment, One Poem Center Stage. Today's poem is by Joe Guzman. Why I love the mud. Lazarus walked out, made it look easy. Why I love mud, a reminder of my own resurrection, a creature of the earth embedded deep in her womb, cradle and dirt, the roots, the rocks coming out of the rot, worms in my hair, massaging my brain, whispers of, remember, remember. Entangled in miles upon miles of mycelium, embedding codes of ancient wisdom into my essence. Wet soil blinded my eyes, as I swam up towards the top soil. My wilderness pushing and pulsating,
a refusal to be mired in the dark any longer. I can still hear the sizzle of the sun on the forest floor when I finally broke free, how the warmth kissed my face, the taste of dirt in my mouth, making me even hungrier for this world. My sentimental heart missed this beautifully flawed and fucked up brilliant world too much. I asked to come back. I could no longer remain asleep. By Joe Guzman, her new book, Aeros Despite, is released this week on September 22nd. You can pre-order the e-book now. You can find her on Instagram at a cup of Joe. And on sub-stack at a cup of Joe Guzman. She has also published Craving and 28. I've linked them in the description. Thank you for listening until tomorrow.
