How could a Chinese teacher in her early twenties in Shanghai have never seen a physical credit card? In this episode, I start with a real story and talk about why mobile payments became so widespread in China, the advantages of QR-code payments, and why people increasingly no longer need to carry or use physical credit cards in everyday life.

上海に住む20代前半の中国人の先生が、実物のクレジットカードを一度も見たことがなかったのはなぜでしょうか。今回は実際のエピソードをきっかけに、中国でモバイル決済がここまで普及した理由、QRコード決済の特徴、そして実物のクレジットカードを日常生活で使う機会が減っている背景についてお話しします。
