We will let you know who Ohio State is rolling out the red carpet for. We'll let you know what we need to see out of the Ball State game. Where Mark and Derek are headed this weekend and then we dive into some video of prospects Ohio State is after. Hit that subscribe button.

1:00Good morning buck nutters. It is Thursday September 3rd, 2026. I am Dan Rubin. This is the Buck nuts morning five and change. As you can see if you're playing at home on YouTube or one of our many video platforms, gear accodges here, mark portals here. The gang is all back together after Tuesday's polarizing game brooder adventure which you should follow on the message boards. There's been some follow ups and really cool stuff on the message boards and again 75% off if you want to join buck nuts. Don't believe that thing in the bottom right corner is even better right now. So we're kicking things up. All right guess what this weekend is guys. I'm not sure if you're aware real football. The buck is our back. We are ready to roll and that means they're going to be welcoming in some prospects. Now one of the reasons. This podcast got off to a little late start is because someone changed their travel plans and I had to adjust. Garrick can you kind of give us the red carpet roll out roll call here.

2:05So I saw all the headlines and tell us if there's been any changes. You think it's going to get the most love and what could possibly happen. As Ohio State host ball state in the season open. Yeah, it's going to be a very small red carpet this week. Don't expect a whole lot of big name visitors, but there are a couple that will bell them too. But the headline that Dan alluded to is Trinidad Roberts. The running back out of Florida that Ohio State is evaluating in senior year right now. He is switching his visit. He was scheduled to visit this weekend against ball state and he will now visit September 26 for Ohio States big 10 opener against Illinois. I wouldn't say that that signals a. Interest change one way or the other I still think that there's a lot of plenty of mutual interest on both sides. And in fact, it might be more beneficial for Roberts itself because at that point he'll have more film for Ohio State to evaluate. I still imagine if you gave Ohio State truth serum, they probably would have liked him to come this weekend because like Jordan Hall will get to in a second.

3:10They like to do the physical measurements and check the boxes as quickly as they can so they know, you know, is this guy's high accurate is this guy's way to accurate. You know more or less box checking physicality, but so Trinidad Roberts will not be there. But as we mentioned in previous shows Jordan Hall, they're running back from Ohio from Cincinnati will be there. Very interested to see how that goes if he gets an offer, I think it's probably coming more at the end of the month than this weekend, but I've been surprised before. Jordan Hall and I spoke if you missed last show on over the weekend and he said, quite frankly, he's very giddy about this upcoming trip. This is a guy who went from no power for offers to a handful of power for offers and seemingly one week after he put on a clinic against a molar. And frankly, he knew that he was a power for caliber prospect when he committed to Miami of Ohio and June, but now he's kind of, you know, reaping the benefit of his hard work.

4:16So we'll see if it ends up working with Ohio State or not. If he ends up going to somewhere else, I believe it will probably be a power for school. So either way, he's doing a tremendous job setting himself up for future futures. He's a success and honestly, Jordan Hall has really opened a lot of people's eyes. He's caught Ohio State's attention, Carlos Lacklin and he have been talking every single day since that week one show case he put on against molar and Mark. What have you kind of picked up from Jordan Hall just from what we saw that Thursday and kind of just the vibes around him in general? It's put me on alert for all the running backs in this class. Kenya, Norman, and Lakota West down there just had a huge day and I watched him in a scrimmage against elder or waking three weeks ago. And I kind of thought, wow, he looks pretty electric and then we're going to get into a video later with save your own. And the other big tail back in Ohio is going to Michigan State and he kind of looked good.

5:18You know, I have some clips of him that we're going to say, huh, he's the Carlos high trace sermon type. So not to avoid the question with Jordan Hall. It's kind of like when you said Ohio State's going to wait to the end of the month. I bet you they're doing what I do. I just got to got the touch and feel these guys all in person all in the last month. And as we watch the other ones film, maybe I'll tell you which one I like the most at the end to put a little teaser in there. But yeah, the Jordan Hall thing is a real thing for Ohio State. He really has some bona fide traits. Sample size mark. Don't they want to see three games of your new season before they start to get evaluate heavy? But I tweeted something out to all the kids who sent out their week one highlights and then they sent out the week two highlights. And it's like guys, could you please try to wait the week three? You know, and it's like the boy who's on the Hill crying off. Hey, look, look at this great plan ahead. You went up there and you're like, not that great. And then next week, hey, look at this great. And then by the third or fourth week, you kind of got people worn out. So coaches try to get kids the way to three weeks because yeah, body of work is the term.

6:24Yeah, like sample size, you know, I'm famous for saying, hey, I try to go to a half of a game because I'm trying to see more. And my sample size is definitely skewed. You know, so I want to see Maslin and in a tea against the team that they could make some highlights and a half, but 52 to seven was a little more highlights that I needed. Okay, other notable visitors you expect. Yeah, really there's two and one that Mark can comment on quite a bit. So I'm actually going to save him last, but really quickly the other one is Jordan Lewis, who is going to be a fantastic offensive tackle in the 2029 recruiting class. He is six foot four 285 pounds right now from South Carolina. Nationally, he in the initial two four seven sports top 100 for the class of 2029. He came in 49th overall and the number six offensive tackle. He already has a host of offers from Blue Bloods, Alabama, Georgia. You name it. Does it?

7:24Yeah, close to about 20 offers based on his profile as it's now Ohio State has not been one of them to my knowledge. But perhaps that changes this weekend. He certainly has the build and the skill set of somebody who's probably going to blow up pretty soon, at least on the trail. So that will be someone that I'm interested in and to see if he does get that offer or if that may come down the line. But the one that Mark will have some opinions on is a Cornell ball, the six foot one 190 pound wide receiver for Mo Kills off to a toward start so far has almost 300 receiving yards in his first two games. And that's coming off of 1000 yards season last year. So he's already visited Ohio State. I think he took three visits in the spring. He's dominated every showcase. He's been at from what I understand and Ohio State likes him a lot. They haven't offered him yet, but they like him a lot. And he's somebody that I could see or being an offer down the line. He has offers from the likes of Cincinnati Iowa State, Louisville, Maryland, Wisconsin.

8:25So power four teams have already taken notice. And I'm interested to see how their relationship grows with Cortes Hanken with Devon Jordan and if cordel ball becomes an option for a high state in the future. Mark, what do you think about him? Yeah, my only experiences after the May showcase. I'll tell you what college coaches told me that could be a bug. You know, that that's how what their opinion was. It was a lower level college coach is like, we offered, but we have no shot. And you know, it's funny when they do that. And they do that because the things don't work out at Ohio State. That kid will remember them. You're like, oh, that guy over at Ball State. He was really nice to me that day and you know, give me my first offer. Set me some fan mail whatever. So he is a guy on the short list, but I have not seen him in a game yet. And they'll be in a couple weeks into the season. That's one of the guys I'd like to see. I'd like to get a little more in depth with him, especially if he's going to blow up the way we're talking. Like he kind of we talked about him a lot in May and his name kind of faded. And I didn't really see him with summer camps this year, which kind of shocked me.

9:28That I never directly crossed his path. So I have some names like this too that we're going to be doing some research on that. Like I'd say there's a short list guys, you know, where like you said, the Ohio State's minions, all those guys are running around the recruiting office. And they're kind of reporting back like we're doing. Do you see this kid yet? Do you see that kid yet? He's on that list. And why do you see for you for what it's worth? It's not really been built on the back of Ohio receivers, if you think about it. Of course, they always have a few and they got Jameer Brown coming, but they recruit the world. And they're trying to get the best guys ever. So for if you're in Ohio and you come up and you are a top tier or second tier dive for Ohio State, you are an elite receiver. I also from that offer list, I wonder if the big boys are waiting to see if Ohio State bites before they get into it and almost let them do the evaluations. All right, given that these guys are coming for this week and we're going to mix it up a little bit here. Let's talk real football. Let's talk actual players on the team.

10:29What's one thing we'd like to see from Ohio State and the ball state match up this week? And I'm going to go first and here's what I would like to see. This guy a little more hair on it recently, but I would like to see legend bay take a kick off to the house. In a way, because let's have a season where special teams is an advantage. What would that be like kids? Now that we've got a kicker who can make a few field goals and we've got legend bay returning kicks. I've been here covering this team for more than a decade and I don't feel like they've ever taken advantage of the return game to the point they could have. The return game I get has been phased out a little bit of the general sport, but. We need someone to push the fear of God and everybody every time they punt so the accent we go to kick it out of bounds and shank on that kind of stuff. Now we need to cover kicks and we need to make kicks.

11:31Imagine that imagine feeling confident at the end of a game lining up for a 47 yard field ball. I am looking forward to that. So that is my thing I want to see the beginning of the year of special teams. Mark what he got. Well, I kind of did a couple things. You know, I'm excited to see Jeremiah Smith and if ball state could possibly put a roof on him. I mean, what do you do? I've been interested to see that. I want to see Julian saying in the Arthur Smith offense and how he runs it. You know, the operation, how much of it's at the line, no huddle. Does he have a handle on it? How many tight ends we have in the game? And I'm sure it's going to be all of the tight ends in a blowout win. I want to see that little Pudgey quarterback from ball state Kendrick Luster, the 250 pound bowling ball. And that's not going to do with the Ohio State. I don't think he's going to 510 to 50. So, you know, push push could be in. But and he's only like completed four of 12 passes. So he's inexperienced and that's going to be neat to see.

12:34I mean, I'm sure he's a starter for some reason. There's something he's doing that's going to be like, whoa, so I thought that was pretty neat. And then all these new guys on defense. I mean, there's just so many names that we haven't seen him, you know, with live bullets. Q Rose, Kueh Rousseau, John Walker, you know, I want to see what Edrick Houston looks like. Bo Ackinson, Kenanna Jackson. I mean, let's see how these new additions all kind of. What are their roles? House Patricia positioning them? Does do they even show their hand Ohio State? You know, so I think they will. You know, as I'm doing all this, I think these guys all get out there. But I don't think you'll see the detail and the packages. I think these games will formulate those things like, okay, here's who we think can do this. And you'll see the the real packages, you know, against the better opponent. I don't think map of Trisha is going to show archmaning anything as he attempts to turn them into a pack.

13:34I think he shows them something that you're going to spend all week watching that you're never going to see. Exactly. And let me tell you how frustrating that is from having a son who's a quarterback, who that just happened to. So watch single high safety all week. He got to the first play of the game to high safety. Everything he watched all week was no one void. So there's a little cat mouse there just in that world. It's a little aggression. But yeah, archmaning get ready for it. Oh, now, Eric, oh, second. Sorry about that. You'll be in attendance. What do the buck eyes need to show? Derek. Well, I would really like Devon Sanchez to record a pick six. So if there's any member of the Sanchez family listening in, please relay my record. I'm just kidding. They would be nice though. What really cool he does. But honestly, I am very much in the camp that week one is a little bit overrated. If you remember all the way last year, not even taking a high-sade into account.

14:35Indiana kind of got into a taffy pole with old dominion. And everyone was like, I don't know. You're too accrued. Signity is this going to translate? He's struggling with old dominion. And there's just examples across the board of teams just come out. And there's just so much sloppiness around the game in week one, because here, you know, putting together everything that you've learned in camp. And then it all just comes out and then mistakes happen. And you know, you don't have extra practice time to fix them. And then the coach is going to cardiac arrest because, you know, someone commits a false start unexpectedly, et cetera, et cetera. So what I'd like to see is as clean of an execution as possible. I know it's not probably going to happen as perfectly as Ryan Day would like it to. But we know that Arthur Smith and Matt Patricia are probably not going to showcase a lot schematically. Or if they are, it's going to be, you know, a red herring as Mark kind of alluded to. So what is the highest priority? No, injuries. Just get out of there healthy. Get the win. Get the backup some reps if you can.

15:37You know, if the fan base doesn't get a 55 point win, they'll be okay as long as, you know, he wouldn't comfortably and do the diligence. But just get out of there healthy. Get the win and start preparing for next week because of boy, that's going to be a big one. Last time I checked the spread for this game is 50.5. That is staggering. That's that is staggering. And the over under 56 and a half. So they're looking at a 50 to 6 game. It's crazy. That's happened before, but it's usually I have to do some math to figure out what they think the score is going to be. I don't know if I can bet against it. I mean, it's like you just sit there and it's going to be like a cash register to change a chain and I don't know if there's enough time in a game to score that many points and drive the ball that one almost by that nature. I agree, especially now that they've cut things down. And it's going to be interesting too because we talked about wanting to see the new names and new faces. Not only do you have the freshman, you have an entire transfer class and you have the elimination of red shirts.

16:42So you're not burning anything. So the idea of getting people in there, you're going to see hopefully a popery of buck eyes and it should be fun. Weather does not look great as of now. Tat overcast as I look outside the gym city. It's only about 92 in sunny like Burma. It's brutal, but hopefully this weekend will be better. For those in attendance and our guys. All right, Derek. Let's get back to the high school grid on. Saturday you will be in Columbus Friday night or so what are your plans for this weekend, Derek in terms of going out and seeing a potential future buck eye? So this is probably one of the rare times this calendar year that I'm getting a perfect storm. And by perfect storm, I mean two players that could be buck eyes and they're facing each other. And on the same side of the ball. So I am hopefully headed to Springfield versus Trotwood Madison, where I can see Springfield offensive tackle, Kavon Blackman,

17:44take on a Trotwood Madison on a Ohio State commit defense of Lyman, Jameer voice. Hopefully, I mean, we'll see obviously Jameer's a little bit more on the interior. So they may not match up a ton, but I'm hoping they face off at least a little bit. It would be really cool for the buck eye in the sky film if we can get that. But no matter what, you're going to be watching the line of scrimmage that game. Really giddy kind of to see what both of them have. Both of these guys are top 170 caliber type prospects. And both of them are, you know, like we said, on the line of scrimmage and that really gets the buck nutters fired up when we break down what exactly they printed the table. So I hope they go at it a couple of times. And I'm really excited to relate to you guys what I see from that because I saw that and I'm like, all right, line of scrimmage game. I'll see you there Friday. Spring feels a little bit outside of Dayton, but this is kind of a classic Dayton powerhouse talent matchup. I think there's five or six teams that really stand above the rest. And these are two of them.

18:46Mark, what will young DJ Porter be doing this weekend? And what are you doing alongside them? Yeah, Dana showed me that we can do DJ Porter updates for about 30 seconds. And the buck nutters aren't going to get to. I never would do all DJ if we could. Yeah, I mean, I'm just, I know we're all buck nuts here, but I think we have some people that are relating this, you know, recruitment here. He has Cardinal Mooney, which is going to be his biggest test. Cardinal Mooney lost the Garfield Heights by two. Can't feel lost to Garfield Heights by three. So, yeah, so if you do the math there, I'm hoping we have a game. Can't field is minus 14 starters. We have been plague, okay? And we're real 14 or real seven guys two way. Yeah, I mean, it may have got worse at practice this week. It's it's biblical. What's going on there? I think when we when people are posting names now, they're posting prayers and, you know, angels coming down on the team to try to help us.

19:46And that falls on the quarterback, which DJ and I have had to, you know, assess the, hey, this is different. You know, you're running for your life and you have to help your team, not hurt your team and really proud that he has all touchdowns, no interceptions, the sacks only has one. So he's doing everything he can. He's been invited to a bunch of games and all that recruitment is going positively. It's a tough situation, but adversity, I think. I try to tell me, go some of these quarterbacks that are throwing five touchdowns in the first half and aren't playing second half. That doesn't make anybody tough. So that's kind of my storyline with him right now. This is going to put some hair on your chest for a young 16 year old, going to face Cardinal Mooney at YSU with. I think it's going to be a big cross. The playing young sound states. They beat Mooney last year, which I pretty much say is like kicking the hornet's nest. And now we got to go play in the hornet's nest. Cardinal Mooney has a long line of coaches that have gone on to coach at a very high level.

20:50Worth a Google search. It is worth a Google search, but I warn you some of those coaches have gotten into a little bit of malfeasance. So your Google search might need to be neutered a bit. You didn't hear it here. Where will you be headed out? You're just going to go see him. Is there any other plans? That's the big plan, but luckily Bishop Waterson comes to town on Saturday night. I get to see Dave. Yeah, so the bucknotters are going to get a great look at Dave's seaman. This is a weekend where I have a home game. I don't have to go travel 700 miles. So I'm very happy about that. Let me do a little catching up with some film work. But yeah, I expect Bishop Waterson probably to beat Urslin. Although Urslin is back. They're rebuilt. It's kind of a new staff, a new mantra. It's nice to see them put aside what happened last year with a brand new squad. I remember a day when Mooney and Urslin were state good every year. Cold water fans can tell you about one game back in the day.

21:50They've got CDs made about it. Not to digress, but a lot of the transfers out of Urslin last year and you know, their Catholic kids, they went over to Mooney. So yeah, so Mooney's benefited from that, which better and I. L package over there. How's that work? Yeah. Nothing's public. But yeah, it's the way this town works. You know, there's not many places to go. And, you know, of course, Mooney had open arms for the people at Urslin, which you're saying that used to be a heated rivalry. Well, you know, it was a little different this time. Okay, I kind of mean to ambush you here, but are we going to get to hear about Jamir Brown this weekend? Where it is? It's week three. I believe so. I haven't heard any reason to be. I think that he wouldn't play. And I think you'll probably be in the horseshoe this weekend, I guess. So I think he may have a locker there. Yeah, he might, but yeah, I'd expect some, but if you really want to know what Jamir does, go to Bucknuts because we've got a prep tracker for all the Ohio State commits and will report on what he does on his first game coming either Sunday or Monday.

22:58They took it on the chin without him last weekend. So we shall see. All right, Mark. Regaleus with some wonderful video if you can pull it up here and we will start playing it. Went to Maslan and said, Dan had me so excited. Last week he does watching the on-tam alone catch passes and score touchdowns and receiver. And I thought, okay, let's go see him do all that stuff. I stepped out of bounds there, but no one notices. We're going to get a couple returns at him and it's nothing spectacular because they didn't need him on offense. They got out to a lead and they gave it to save your own and that's who we're going to take a look at here too. But the versatility is what I picked up of De Aute. They had him lined up a corner. They put him in safety. He was playing outside linebacker in a clip we're going to see here. And at Dan's set it like last week, he's a bigger looking kid. Like I think every time I see him, there's three or four pounds. There he is outside linebacker. He's going to come on. He's taller than you think. There he goes around the tackle. So the versatility he's going to bring now because we're peaking at all the running backs in 2027.

24:02Here's the savior Owens committed to Michigan State. I think he's a Carlos Hyde kind of a copy. Look at his butt and his legs. We're going to get a real good. You look at that area here a minute. But I think if you say levy on Bell, if you say trace sermon, yeah, here's where you can see like he's got a lower half that not too many people are going to be able to just wrap him and pull him with the ground. And then here's the pool we're waiting for is what's he looked like when he turns on the corner and he puts the speed on. I know this is a little hard to see because he got out of the screen here, but he looks pretty fast. So that's a jump from what I saw last year. There's two more clips to him here. It seemed like they just started hitting him the ball in that first half. And as you can see, they were just running downhill. There's a tackle right there to the screen 78. And we're going to look at him next. That's the real like what's the next guy to look at? This isn't the transfer from Nordonia, Michael Walker 67315 just by his stature and person. He's going to have to be looked at.

25:02Is he a left tackle? Not yet, but he looks much better than he did a year ago with his feet. His body looks better. His belly is now flattened out. Maseline. You can see him running across the field there. He's hustling. I think we're going to be talking about this kid in June coming to the Ohio State Camps because there's a couple podcasts ago where like, well, how the old line class in this, you know, this 28 classes. Isn't really that great. There's some bodies here that, you know, we'll be talking about it. And this is definitely one of them. So the trip to Maseline.
