Whether Ohio State or Texas will ultimately end up with him. That's kind of tongue and cheek there, but he will be at the game and we hope he has divided allegiances at least. We're also going to give you our vibes on the game. We're going to let you know where these guys are headed this weekend in Ohio for their high school itinerary and then we will finish the show with video from Mark on a new commitment which we'll get into. You probably have to take I digress. But we got a commitment from Luke, Soida. I'm going with Soida. SOH-YDA. We've heard so to. I'm going with Soida for now. We will get that trick pronunciation phonetically correct at some point. Derek, a little bit surprising after the visit to come as quickly as it did. Can you bring us up to speed on who Ohio State got and why it came when it did? Yeah. Luke was kind of really first on Ohio State's radar over the summer when he participated in Ohio State 7 on 7

3:11recruiting camp. He was kind of really known as a blocker and I know Mark's going to tease a little bit of film later and you're going to see a lot of blocking and especially inline blocking. But he plays a lot of offensive tackle for his high school at 6 foot 4, 250 pounds. He's probably a little bit bigger than that. We probably need to update those on his 247 sports profile. But Arthur Smith loves tight ends that can block and set up the running game. And this is exactly the type of tight end that can do that. But what also really learned him the offer was he also moves pretty well for his size and he showcased some soft hands and was a playmaker in that 7 on 7 camp. So they're like, okay, he does have that receiving component to his game that we can use. And really since that offer came in June, he and coach Kenan Bailey have been talking every day since then, pretty much every day since then he is my interpretation of it from what he and I discussed. But so he appeared on Ohio State's campus the first game of the year and he and I caught up briefly

4:17Tuesday morning and after the way that he was talking, I was like, okay, this guy's about to pop anytime soon now the way he described his visit plans, he's coming back to Ohio State for the Kent State game and then he's coming back for the Oregon game. So I'm like, okay, he already has two more visits lined up in the fall from an out of state kid. And he said, as of now, I'm supposed to go to Pittsburgh on Saturday. So when you hear as of now, you're like, well, why would it? Oh, okay. Well, that makes a whole lot of sense. Okay, he might just commit. So we were trying to do some due diligence behind the scenes figure out whether the buck guys have completed their evaluation process and quite frankly, I don't think they did until Tuesday, especially because you always don't know how things are going to go with Ohio State tight end recruiting in general because as we've discussed at length in previous editions of the show, Ohio State is probably never going to be at the top of the market for high school recruits at tight end just because I don't think

5:21they value the bane for the buck there. And it's obviously a developmental position. Plus, if you're going to pay for a tight end, they think that you're probably a lot better off doing that in the transfer portal than you would be from the high school ranks. And based on what you see around the country, that's absolutely correct 99 times out of 100. I mean, yeah, sure, there's the occasional freshman tight end that contributes right away, at least as a receiver. But in any case, it is kind of amusing that Ohio State has secured its 2028 tight end before they've secured the 2027 tight end. But end evaluations, they are still ongoing and we'll see if they even take one or if they want to go transfer portal again. They don't necessarily have to take one. But ultimately, I think he really fits well into what Arthur Smith is trying to do offensively. He's, I don't want to spoil it too much because I want you to stay to the end when you can have Mark breakdown on the film, but you're just going to go, they do use him in the passing game too, right? I looked at the stats and through two games right now, he has two catches for 46

6:23hours or something like that. So I think his high school is kind of realized, though, we should be utilizing him as a weapon too. But most of his film all of last year is a lot of blocking highlights and a lot on the defensive line too. I don't want to understate that. He's a two-way player. He plays defensive line. He plays offensive line. He plays tight end. So this is a guy that has a mean streak. He's a grinder and he's not afraid to go up against guys that are bigger than him. And he loves putting his hand on the dirt and just blocking a guy. So the type of player that Ohio states really going to love, if we were big boarding him, I would probably put him somewhere between tier three and tier two. We'll see how he develops. I think if he can add a little bit more flash to his receiving component, he's definitely a tier two type caliber prospect because his blocking is certainly there right now. Mark, it seems Ohio State has a mold. It's certainly not the mold for your fantasy team, but they've got a mold. You know, me being a tight end, I always like the

7:24tight end evaluation. And I have something in common with this Luke. My junior year, we had another tight end of Canfield that was going to Boston College. So they moved me to TACL so they could put both of us next to each other. And I cried like a baby and they changed me from 87 to 78, but the blocking skills that I learned that year is what made me a great college blocker at tight end is why I played as a freshman because I could block as a tight end in college. And that was a skill that, you know, in this day and age of flashy tight end, how many times are we watching these guys run around and catch balls and it looks pretty and you know, we want those guys. We want that elite athlete. But if you look at every NFL team, there's a second tight end who does all of the dirty work who doesn't get his the hammer down then he gets a little tight end touchdown or he does a little boot like down there gets a little reward for his years worth of blocking so you can hear his name. But we need an inline tight end, a traditional Y, and then we need

8:27an age or a move tight end or like they call Brock Bowers the way they move him around the Joker in that offense. So so there is a two tight end scheme that Ohio State uses and there's two types and this is definitely the inline we get to the gold line when we get the short yardage. This is the type of player that comes in the game. Smash mouth come off the ball and block you. You know, I think when you build a room of tight ends, you can't just keep taking guys that are borderline receivers or you will get smashed in the mouth and the run game. Okay, there's tight ends are point of attack blockers. That means right where you're running the ball. Yeah, most of the time those guys are right at right at the point. So you got to have someone you could trust blocking there. That's this type of how do I say prospect and then I wouldn't get into whether he's tier one, tier two, tier three. He's not going to be flashy. He's not about ratings. This isn't about stars. This is about a guy who comes in with a very particular set of skills. We'll say.

9:33I'm trying to think of a modern example. I'll tell you who is the a guy has come all the way through and made it a Dan Campbell, the coach of the Detroit Lions is like the program that's made for what we're discussing. So we don't know if Mr. So it up bites ankles, but we know he's probably pretty tough. All right. Now as we go to Texas, which is going to be just a spectacular weekend of football from a spectator standpoint, maybe not from my heart rate standpoint, but there are several elite prospects that both Ohio State and Texas are going after stop us if you've heard this movie before and they'll be at the Texas game. Now I'm not sure they're the top top of the board for Ohio State in terms of guys we think we're going to get, but it never fails to do good work when you can go on the road, beat someone who's visiting the other team that you want. I don't think that can't be lost on a good recruit. So Garrett, can you kind of let us know who are the common targets this weekend as the

10:38buck I said to Austin? Yeah, disclaimer, massive recruiting weekend, but not necessarily massive recruiting weekend for the buck us. It's certainly a massive recruiting weekend for Texas. While there might be some common interest at the game, Ohio State can't really do anything with them outside of shoot them a text after the game going, hey, I hope you saw we won, but in any case, it is an opportunity for recruits that are visiting there that are considering both schools too. I mean, I'm sure they're going to be evaluating both schools and envisioning themselves at both positions, for example, if it's a quarterback, they're probably going to be doing nothing but watching Texas cornerbacks and then watching Ohio State cornerbacks. So pretty interesting list. The headline is Bryson Wright, the number one wide receiver in the country from Florida. Again, I would not get my hopes up if I'm an Ohio State fan here for that one, but he's still walking highlight reel whenever room he walks into. So you're going to have to go down

11:38swinging there because it would be poor due diligence if you didn't. Anyhow, moving on, Camaghi, the number one player in the country for 2028 or 247. He's a six foot four edge. Again, not necessarily somebody I'd get my hopes up for, but someone Ohio State is still recruiting. Another guy that is kind of interesting to me is Jay Sean Mitchell. They're running back from San Antonio, Texas rated in the top 125 prospects in the country. He is visiting Ohio State. I believe for the Illinois game. If not the Illinois game later this fall, but he is someone on Ohio State's radar as Ohio State hopes to take two running backs in 2028. There's a couple more. Okay, yeah, this is a one that will be pretty interesting. Geo may not visited Ohio State last weekend. Allegedly is going to Texas this weekend. He is the quarterback from Pickerington North. So that's kind of an interesting development. Lorenzo McMollan, when we saw him for his opening

12:44game for Princeton versus Mueller, he told the group of us after the game that he plans to be in attendance for Texas Ohio State. So that's another one worth paying attention to. And finally, I guess it's fair to call this guy a target, even though he doesn't have an Ohio State offer, because he has a Ohio State visit scheduled for much later in the fall. But 2020, 2017 defensive lineman, Jeremiah Mark, 6'5", 275 pound interior type guy. More of your tier 3, maybe tier 2, the way that he's blowing up on the recruiting trails, a late seniorizer. He'll also be at Texas. So that's really it. There might be a really premier Ohio State defensive line commit, not named DJ Jacobs. I'm sure you all can guess who I'm referring to there in attendance. Haven't gotten any confirmation on that yet. But some Texas analyst think he might show up. If he does show up, and Marcus is the one I'm referring to, if you guys need me to spell it out for

13:45you. But if he does show up, I wouldn't read too much into it. Even though Texas is probably the only school that's still trying to toss their hat and their ring for him. He's pretty locked in with Ohio State at this point. Not that visits to other schools are ever a great thing. They can hurt more. They can help your commitment, obviously. But I wouldn't panic too much over it if you see him show up in Austin this weekend. He's of course referring to Garrett, because of course referring to Marcus Faketoo. Is that pronounced correctly? We'll get it eventually. It's not soda. Who is probably riding shotgun with his teammate Cassie Currie. It's a little defensive tackle who's committed to Texas. So even more reason to not freak out. Mark, when you hear all that, what jumps out to you? You better win the game regardless. Did I just lose you guys? No. Okay. My screen went blank for a second. But yeah, with that type of

14:47recruiting, the way we're trying to get Texas and take national players and trying to, you know, we win an Alabama. We win in the Georgia things we've never done before. We're seeing people come into Ohio. So I think these games with the national exposure, the TV, you're more important than we think. I don't think people or recruits move the meter on how we play against ball state. I think games like Texas emotionally affect recruits and they all want to be associated with winning and they're very shallow. So that's why just make it simple and win. I love it. Yeah, it's going to be very interesting. Let's get into our vibes on the game. There are some games we'll dive deep on. We didn't really preview ball state too much considering it probably, we have a rule. I think under 50 point spreads, we go into detail. But once you go over 50, we are going to assume the buck eyes are going to handle business 56 that they covered. That's ridiculous. All right. Mark,

15:48we'll start with you. Just your vibes on the game. Last year, we all remember what happened. It was the first game of the year. It was at Ohio State. It was a very interesting game. I'd find people's view in hindsight is not 2020. I don't remember. I don't I don't get the sense of people talk about how awful arch was for the first three quarters to the point where it was like yikes. He did rebound in the fourth quarter and stuff. But the idea that that game was close for most of it is a complete misnomer. The defense had them so bottled up. And if I say this every time, keep in mind, Bo Jackson did not even play in that game. Right. It was the James People show. The truncated version, not the extended play on Broadway. So what do we expect? Mark, take the floor. Okay. So it's going to be a totally different game. Archmaning and his first couple games on,

16:51you know, even throughout the last season, it took him a while to get his feet underneath them. I think he's a much better player with a lot to prove. The first thing I thought of this week is they have an eddressure calling Simmons. And can he wreck the game? Is our offensive line? And I know the buckthunners are always looking for, you know, our weakness. Will they put him one-on-one with whatever they assume our weakness is on our line? Do we have to help? Do we have to waste Bo Jackson or a tight end to help and chip and coverage? So our offensive line is always a story. I think more particularly after the playoff run last year and a couple eddressures blowing us up, we better have an answer for this one. You know, and that's what I would say to my team as a coaching staff. You know, I don't know what we're going to do this guy, but I don't want him in our backfiel all night. Jeremiah Smith, that's an obvious thing, but McEwen and Innis, they have to step up. I mean, if they want to take Jeremiah Smith out of the game and bracket him and double him,

17:52do those guys have the chops to step up in a big game now and make, you know, place for us. Bo Jackson needs to run the ball better. 35 yards versus ball state. That doesn't get it done versus Texas. Our O'Line's got to come off the ball. Bo Jackson doesn't have to have a 100-yard game, but he's got to set us up with second and fourths. He's got to set us up with the second and two or a third and one or on a third and one. He's got to be a dog and maybe be his own blocker and get in there. Archmaning's obviously a centerpiece to this thing. He is a totally, just watching clips of him this year and some of his footwork in the pocket. He's comfortable and confident. I'd say are the two biggest, you know, different things to him. And then we missed some tackles in ball state. The receivers of Texas, they're real. Those guys can scoot. You want to miss tackles in the secondary. That's not good. So a couple of things from ball state. Not running the ball well. I'll miss some tackles. Don't let those be reoccurring themes. And then, you know, let's shut down

18:56their pass rusher. And I think Julian saying it is going to maybe set the record straight that he's here for real. This is kind of, I use the word signature wins. You need to rack up signature wins where people look back and say, remember the Texas game. And we do it all the time. Remember this game. Remember the Oregon game. I just saw the Ezekiel Elliott highlights from, you know, there are certain games that are signature games. You don't even, you don't get that many, you know, throughout the season, two, three a year. This is one of them. So let's see it. Yeah, that that Zee grun right through the heart of the south. You're ever driving in your car and think about that. Catch yourself smiling in your rearview mirror. Very good point, Mark. And very interesting. This is game three for Collins Simmons against Ohio State and game three for Jeremiah Smith against Texas. Neither has really dominated or shined particularly in any of the efforts so far. So that'll be what's something to watch. Garek your thoughts on the matchup.

20:00Yeah. So in a lot of ways, I actually think these teams are carbon copies of each other. And a lot of facets, they both have an experience quarterback returning that a lot of people think are going to go in the first round of the NFL draft net spring. They both have a running game that has more questions than answers right now. They both have a wide receiver that again every NFL draft analyst thinks is going top 10 at worst. Obviously top 10 is more for Texas than Ohio States. But and they both have a secondary wide receiver that is probably criminally underrated from a national standpoint right now. Evan McEwan for Ohio State and Ryan Wingo for Texas. And defensively, you know, new coordinator for Texas. I've talked to a scout that knows Texas really well. And I'm like, all right, if you're a Ohio State, how are you attacking these guys? And the scout informed me and he said, left guard is a serious problem for Texas.

21:04So they're not going to be a great positive net success rushing team this year. They're going to rely on a lot of explosive plays. So Matt Patricia and Ohio State are going to have to do their best to limit explosives. I think if you keep the explosive plays in check from Texas, I think you're going to be just fine and Austin because they're going to rely on those a lot. They're not usually be a team that breaks off like seven, eight, nine yard runs here and there. At least certainly not what we saw against Texas State and certainly not the way that the offensive line looks constructed right now, especially at left guard. And on the other side of the ball, the off-ball linebackers are making a lot of people in Texas nervous from what I understand right now, both especially how they're going to handle Ohio State in past coverage. So Crossers, Rats are over the middle will probably be a big weapon for Arthur Smith. We'll see if Jeremiah Smith can finally break through against Texas. This is seemingly the one team

22:06that he doesn't dominate. But I mean, Ohio State will take it because they won both games. He's been helped kept pretty quiet in both games and Ohio State's won either of them. And Jeremiah, knowing he definitely would take that. So he would much rather have two catches for 20 yards and win than eight catches for 180 yards and lose. So I'm really looking forward to it. I think it's going to be a holiday game. It could be the game of the year in a lot of respects. And again, last carbon copy item is Ohio State has a question at right tackle. Texas has a question at left guard. How are both coaching staffs going to scheme around their perceived shortcomings on the offensive line? Collins Simmons, Kenyatta Jackson, this is really the type of game where you want your stars on the defensive line to shine and just really create chaos. And this is also a really big game for Julian in terms of taking the free yards when they're there. If there's a five or six yards

23:09framble opportunity, you know, you don't want to repeat of the Indiana and Miami games. And the more importantly than Julian is the offensive lines got a pass protect because the blueprint of Bito, Ohio State was get to Julian and make his life hell. And that was the way that they lost last year. So I'm excited to see what Matt Patricia cooks up for archmaning because the one thing that maybe we're overlooking for Texas's Paltry running game numbers is they didn't run arch at all. Again, Texas State because obviously you didn't want to show anything. So I certainly think that they're going to use arch's legs to be a weapon in the running game. Ohio State was excellent at containing quarterback runs last year. Obviously might be a little different without our belt release and sunny styles and Caleb Downs, but Matt Patricia obviously knows how to counter that. So again, can't wait to see this chess match play out. Yeah, tons to get to. I got a ton of

24:10vibes. I'll keep it limited. There was some chatter that they people think we were being harsh on Philip Daniels and kind of singling him out. I've extolled the virtues on here many times of the film guy, the Georgia based film guy. He had a segment last night where he asked his group, do you guys know who Philip Daniels is? Okay, I've never heard him talk about alignment on the show before specifically. And he even said they need to get him fixed up for them to get it done. So I dig that. He also predicted Kenyatta Jackson and Colin Simmons would both have two sex. So we will see about that, but I'll tell you who I am watching. I'm going to read you a list of names in alphabetical order here. Legend Bay, Brock Boyd, Conor Hawkins, Devon McEwen, Kyle Parker, Riley Petagion, Peyton Pierce, Devon Sanchez. Those are Texans on Ohio State's roster. That's a good list of

25:11players right there. I'd like to see one of them be the star. I am all for the I poke. I am all for setting up legend Bay to show Texas what they didn't get. So like I said, the over-under-unrecrued, you can attract from this game that we're maybe wavering or younger guys who see it. One and a half will take it. I'd love to see some of those guys get it done. And I hesitate to do this because I don't want to put too much pressure on them. But I think this could be the national coming out party for one Devon Sanchez. He is going to be matched up with Ryan Wingo and Cam Coleman a lot. And given how he performed and what I'm told in practice against Jeremiah Smith, he is more than ready for the task. So, a lot to ask, man, you got some young guys in the secondary who will going to be really tested, who are really talented. And that's going to be some fun to watch. I obviously think Ohio State will win. I do think we may be underselling what Patricia and Smith

26:17have ready for this game. I often think the first week of the season is goofy because you give the other team whether they say it or not. They've been preparing for you specifically for about what six months. There's extra video, et cetera. My guess is Ohio State focused on the Texas tape more than the Ball State tape to get ready. So I could see them getting a little kitchen sinky early on. And my hope is Arthur Smith has a few wrinkles that no one's seen before, kind of like a pitcher's first time through the rotation. And he slurves it up for them a little bit. But we shall see it's going to be an NFL scouts dream. You can probably take the rest of the month off and go to the Caribbean and have and just go over the film from this game and still be on track. So, cannot wait. Really excited that Ohio, I know it's a challenge to play games like this and you can make a real strong argument had Texas scheduled ball state instead of Texas last year. Instead of Ohio State

27:18last year, they would have been off and running. We can see that last thing I want to mention from its schematic standpoint, Texas gave up 140 yards on the ground to Texas state. That's a lot. That's a lot. I don't care what the excuse is. That's just too much. And if Ohio State can run the ball, I think it's curtains. I can't remember a game where Ohio State ran the ball super effective that they didn't win. So, we hope that works out. All right. Guess what? They are going to play other football games around the world over the next 72 hours. Several in Ohio, which means our guys will be out and about Garek, your plans for the weekend as you prep for the Biggie on Saturday night. Yeah, I'm hoping to go see Geo McKnight in Pickerington North on Friday because I thought it's very timely considering that Geo just visited Ohio State and he's supposed to visit Texas. So, figured there's a lot of angles to hit on there. Probably might take two interviews because you

28:25might want to get his thoughts from the Texas game, depending on how it goes, either way. But, yeah, I'm excited to see him play. He dominated the camp circuit, dominated the underarmor camp. This is a guy whose stock has continued to rise over the past couple of months and a lot of heavy hitters are involved in this recruitment and honestly also excited to just find out where Ohio State sits with him right now. Mark, update us please on the Canfield Cardinals attempt to get off the Schneid and then where you'll be elsewhere if you'll be elsewhere. Yeah, tonight is a big game for one of the top quarterbacks in Ohio. Bryson, Paul, at Wadsworth, there's been a lot of talk about him as being one of the top signal haulers. They're playing Solon tonight, so I get a nice game there. Half-time will probably head over to Revere versus Twinsburg to check out some of those prospects. Cleveland area stuff, is that? Yeah, Cleveland area. More scouting Ohio than Ohio State. There's a player, a Jude hauler at Wadsworth that may pop later in the year, but I don't

29:26know if there's a true Ohio State prospect. The best prospect for Solon may have transferred the Lundle in the off season. So, shocker, a little drama there, but the Cardinals face the Bulldog. That's our natural rival. Coach Pavlansky over Paul and is a skimmer and because I know all these coaches so well, I just see them twisting their moustaches all week on what they're going to do to young DJ and what looks they're going to throw at him. That's always, that chess match is interesting to me is the Ohio State chess match, but yeah, it should be a good week and football Saturday. I'm going to go see Akron Bukdol and they have a young quarterback, Arthur Thomas that has a few offers early in class 2008. So, I'm going to see some good quarterbacks this weekend. Excellent. Alright, let's talk about Mr. Luke Soida. Soada. So Haida. Someone in his family needs to reach out. Good Lord. I, let me tell you this, it's not their first rodeo. You

30:28grow up with a name like that. You're used to getting it pronounced incorrectly. Believe me, my last name is Rube and you know how many people spell that correctly? None. Alright, here we go. Everyone wants the sandwich. Alright, Mark, take it away. Okay. You know, this was an interesting breakdown. I actually texted Dan and Eric last night. I'm like, you should have this guy skimmed at tight end. 90% of his highlights are him playing defensive end, five technique, defensive tackle. So I didn't really put any of that in here because that doesn't concern us, but he's very good. If you want to play defense, he could. Ohio State 7 on 7. How about this catch for the big guy? Just watching him run right there. You kind of, does that remind you of Jake Ballard? You know, he runs well tonight with the zones. Big long target. He makes a one-handed catch coming up here, but you could see he's got a big physical body. So that's what you're getting at tight end. This isn't going to be the guy that you're going to run against the safety and beat him and man to man. You're just going to box him out. So Arthur Smith being a genius with tight

31:30ends. This could be the Darnal Washington type, you know, from the Steelers last year where he has him down in the end zone and did a lot of damage. This is the one-handed catch, I think, that he makes coming down the middle. But for a 7 on 7, that's a pretty good show for a blocking tight end. Derek said he has two catches this year. This is one of them. Sit down in the middle of the zone, catch it, and you know, a lot of tight ends doing that in the NFL. And then we get into the blocking, the inline block, and just powerful. You can see the running of the feet, the finishing. He's going to move the tackle. I think we're going to save that for the premium. He's wearing 59. He changes jerseys. So like I said, I played tackle for one year. It was a tremendous advantage later on to be able to be a great blocker. And I think that's where we're going to get. Also, you can tell from the tape, this is no small 2028 kid. There's no issue with him like filling out. He's a monster. If you're that 28, keep him, I mean, he's class of 28. This is just in it's 26. So he's not going to get smaller. He looks like a real dude. I'm telling you from the
