1:05Welcome everybody to episode of the 578 of the Battle at Herons podcast. I am your host Daniel Gradov and alongside me as always with the KBD. Are you two wings, her? I saw a lot of guys that we need and that we had in other jerseys do well this past weekend. Noah Allen made his debut for Chicago. Yes. And David Ruiz made his debut for the Rebels. I mean, Robbie Taylor, I'll be told. Yeah. Lasseter, a winger, scored a banger. I mean, you could, you could do as you wish with whatever information that is. I see you know, I believe they scored that in own goal. So I don't even think Lasseter got contributed. He got that goal for himself. Well, I mean, because it hit calendar off the back because otherwise it wouldn't have gone in. That was the thing with Lasseter when he was here. He just couldn't get a goal in. It would hit the crossbar. It would hit the goalie. Listen, if it went in, it went in, right?

2:07And then on top of that, you have Indiana Vassalep, just tearing it up with Philadelphia. Okay. I mean, those, I'm just mentioning facts. Sean Calahem, Chris was the best kid in club history. We did a, a kid show, like a last year at some point. We got to do another one because since the last year when we did it, they've dropped like three or four. So we got to do another one of those because that was a fun episode. All right. So we're here not to do the preview of Chicago. We're going to do that tomorrow. Hopefully we can get Nick having him up and hit him up. I'll actually hit him up right now. To do the preview of Chicago, a proper preview. Today, we kind of just, this isn't a state of the hair until we usually have a guest coming on to talk with us. We kind of just wanted to revisit Atlanta because the more I think about it, the worse I feel about the fact that we drop such a great opportunity against such a, like, I don't want to say sub-party.

3:08Just say it. Just say it. We should have won that game. We should have won it comfortably against a team that just is not as good anywhere near as good. And we drop those points. We have uncertainty at left back because is that the plan or is, is Mura going to be our left back moving forward? Can I say that? I thought I did a good job, but they're moving on the center back. Like and again, I know we'll talk about it tomorrow, but Salaci coming down that left side, our right side. He's going to cook Mura. He's down there. He's been balled. Yes. Three goals in the last three games. Two goals in the last two games. I keep them playing very well. You got a little one, Dowski, who's ready to cook Falcon, if Falcon is back there, then you have Synchronigo coming down the right side, which is our left side. So if you got Mura there, no matter where you put Mura, he's F. No, Alan. Because you got Salaci on one side. You got Noah Allen with the revenge game coming up. Like, I mean, I don't know. I don't know. So I'm not feeling great right now. But while you write that message up and I mean, let's just let's keep, you know, let's

4:12call this spade a spade here, Danny. Like, we should be upset. We kind of need to talk through this. I mean, we can wait until tomorrow. We have Nikon, but then it's going to be like Chicago infused. So you're going to have no ketchup involved. Like we need all the bloodshed possible today. And the fact of the matter is is there's a lot of, there's a lot more questions than answers. And it comes to what's going on right now. I mean, well, soccer daddy, look, soccer daddy brings up a good point that a lot of people would probably look at and say, Mura did well on the left. I mean, he came in later and did he do well or did he just not do badly? Like is it okay? Can you skate with doing not bad on this team? Is that acceptable? Is it acceptable to come in and not be bad? And that's just what you contribute to the team?

5:12Look, I think Mura leaves a lot to be desired, whether it be in the attack or in the defense. Whenever he just pushed up, he takes a lot of get back. I see how to fill in those spaces when he did push up. Now what I did want to go over and we can go over this right now. I wanted to go over the schedule for Miami because I got it up already. Are you going to share your speed? Do you want me to share mine? No, no, go ahead, go ahead. Okay. Because right now, and again, I've said it time and time again, I'm not a big proponent to the support of shield. Like I don't give it a lot of importance. Like yeah, it's nice. It's a trophy technically, but I don't care about it too much. But what I will tell you is that I care about home field advantage throughout the playoffs. And the reason I think that this has been a rough go because when you look where we were, let's say since the beginning of August. So we had August, whatever, it doesn't give me the day, but in August, we played against Columbus.

6:16Columbus has been one of the worst teams in the, in MLS. And the Eastern comrades that I don't know if they're still at the bottom, but they were at the bottom at one point. August 1st tied to two. Santiago Rodriguez and Bryce Mendez have both come and they viewed and now they're probably going to be formidable moving forward. But they didn't have, they have Bryce Mendez, I believe, but they didn't have Santiago Rodriguez. They blew that game late at home. You can't drop points to teams at Columbus. Then we went into the least cup. Nobody cares about that anymore. So move on. Then you get your ass kicked by Nashville. All right. You get you draw with Philadelphia. Okay, that's a good squad for the Duffies to get squad. Yeah. Toronto. You can't lose to Toronto at home. Yeah. You cannot lose to Toronto at home. And then you go ahead and you kick Montreal's ass, 71. That's great. And then you draw with Atlanta, but this Columbus game, this Toronto game and this Atlanta game, that right there. Those games cost you to support the shield. Absolutely. And that was the easy part of the schedule.

7:17Now you got third place team Chicago coming up on Wednesday. You got first place team Nashville coming on Sunday. Then you have Cruz as soon, which is one of the best teams in Mexico for that one time. Campion is cup and I don't know whatever the heck else. So that made up trophy or whatever it is. They're playing that next Wednesday. I think it is. And then you have San Diego, which again, that team is starting to finally get into form. They got a true read on the left. They got dry on the right. Like they're finally coming into form. They have probably one of the best center backs in the league in Mano, which is going to be shutting people down like San Diego is coming into form. Then you got Columbus again. Okay, now they have Santa Rodriguez. Now they have Bryce Mendes. Now they're getting into a flow. Yes, they're still probably bottom of the East, but it's going to be a lot tougher than the last time when you drew with them. And then the next game is the only give me. Right. And then you have to give me with DC, which you would hope is a game, but at home, you just never know because at home for some reason, we always pooped the bed. And then you got NYCFC and Atlanta.

8:17And what did I tell you over the last two weeks? There's two teams. The two teams that always are a thorn in our side that always managed to either beat us or somehow get at least a draw that we end up getting really frustrated about our NYCFC and Atlanta. And we play them back to back within three days. Then you got NYCFC, you got Atlanta, then you got the young kids, the Red Bulls. Okay, maybe we should win that, but then you got Cincinnati, which are going to be flying fighting for a playoffs positioning at that point. You have a van, those playing like an absolute MVP. You have Carlos Hieland New England, who's been playing much better this year than I expected. And then you have Chris's favorite team, Charlotte, to end the season, which, but by the same maximum, must watch TV by doing amazing. Yes. If people haven't watched them, watch that kid and watch him glide through the pitch. He gets the ball and he just touched the glide. It's like his feet don't even touch the right. He's glides through the pitch. So fantastic. The schedule, like you can't blow the games we've blown and then expect to pick it up now at the schedule is finally going to get difficult. So it's very frustrating to see the opportunities that they blew and what they have coming up.

9:22Well, and you mentioned a couple of things here. I mean, NYCFC, the recent and shout out to Mr. Krabs with the $2 super slam says the support of shield is a curse. We don't want it. Which is true. Oh, that's fine. But then let it wasn't conference team winning. But I want to home feel advantage throughout the playoffs up into the finals. And I wanted for the finals also. Right. It was nice. We played Vancouver in the final. And I don't know by how much we beat them in like as far as points go, but like I'm glad that we hosted that again. One, because we got to be there and two, because Vancouver's a much better team in that carpet that they play on over there in BC place. And Danny, this is where this is where a lot of it strikes down on Sean adds on to that. And we're about to go through a whole formation and tactical change with a new coach and start trying to get the ball. And start trying to figure things out, get some chemistry going in those new positions, right? Because some people might be playing in different positions.

10:23And we got to do all this while we're playing this tough. Like what are we going to do against Cruz as soon? Yeah. Okay. It's a trophy. The cargo and what I feel are the next two games. The next three games you're playing against top competition. Chicago third best team in the Eastern Conference, which I think is a very good team. Nash wrote the best team and I'm a less right now. And then you have Cruz as soon, which one of the best Mexican teams. Like that's a really rough run of three games. And then San Diego is just coming into the top nine. Yeah. Like this isn't the time to all of a sudden like, okay, well, let's figure things out. Let's start experimenting. But that's what we're about to do. We're about to start experimenting in like a really tough stretch of games. And by the way, the game's matter. And because it's we need the positioning, huh? And you were going to mention because you didn't you didn't mention Columbus crew. Columbus also have Joseph. Is it payback time? Oh, that's right. They have Joseph. I mean, is that another is that another wrinkle into I mean, last game, Columbus scored three up on Colorado.

11:23I mean, they're not the best in the West and any in any measure. But I mean, a wins a wins a wins a win. I guess, right? Yeah. I mean, Columbus, they got to start a streak somewhere. I mean, next game they're playing against DC United. That's a give me for Columbus. Then they're playing against the rebels. So I mean, there's a possibility that the you know, Columbus by the time they reach us, they might already be striking down. Oh, that matchup against Nashville is going to be freaking brutal, bro. I'm going to go check. I get out of here. Let me just go to Emma. I'm going to go check Nashville. I mean, can we can we I mean, I can look it up for you. I can hold on. I got right here. So let's look at what what Nashville got going. Because again, that's the team that we're chasing for for. Oh, I got to got cupcakes, dude. They got cupcakes. They got Austin. They got Toronto.

12:24They got sporting KC like they got around from on Wednesday, which they they should be able to take care of, even though we weren't able to Toronto twice this year, bro. They have Chicago. Okay. So they have Miami Chicago. Similar kind of scheduled three teams that are on the top. They're kind of beating each other up in the next couple games. Can I say the rest? Toronto and wishing. Yeah, go ahead. Oh my god. The rest is said. Yeah, exactly Toronto September 26 Austin cupcake. Then they got sporting KC four days later. They could send the B squad out, win by four goals. Then three days later, they got San Jose. They leak goals. They're good. Is that gun? Oh, yeah. Oh, Angus gun. Angus gun is going to leak goals in San Jose. Then then they get their shows are barn burner with Montreal. And then they might face a little bit of a of a 30 bump with Philly, the Red Bulls and then since see.

13:24You know what? How many points are in national right now? Right now right now they are at 53 points. 53 points. All right. So let's see. Not count Miami and Chicago. I'm not going to count these two. So Toronto that's one Toronto that's two Austin three Kansas City four San Jose five Montreal six Red Bull seven. So that's seven games that I think for sure they're going to win. Twenty one point. How many do they have right now? They have 53. They put them at 74 so they'll tie us. Just based off of those with the all time they're going to break the all time points record for games. I mean for pointing a season that we set back in what 2020 four was it? 2024. Yeah. Two years ago. So we set that two years ago. They're going to shout out to that because they're going to those seven games are almost game. They're going to win those seven games and all they need is to get a couple points against Cincinnati Philadelphia or Chicago and Miami. Those are the only four games that I see that they're going to have issues with.

14:27That's wild. That's a cupcake schedule if I ever saw one at the end of a season. Nashville needs to be sitting over 70 percent. It's not a success if they're not. If I'm a Nashville fan, they got that this is this has supporters shield written all over it. For those of you that are asking for the supporters shield, it's not coming. No, no, no, after saying that, it's not coming. So let's see. Let's see if we can stay in second place. So let's see. We got Chicago, Miami. Okay. Then they play against New England decent team. Nashville, obviously good team Charlotte decent Vancouver and my CFC Philadelphia. Okay, I think we're pretty good. I think we might be able to stick in. If we can do what we're supposed to do, we should be able to stick in second place because I don't think Chicago can beat a lot of these teams. Or are they going to have a hard time? They have a lot harder schedule than Nashville. That's for sure. Oh, yeah. I mean, Colorado is the only one that they got themselves a nice set up with down at the bottom. Right? They got themselves a little Colorado action, a little Columbus action.

15:30Oh, Atlanta. Atlanta. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Yeah, Chicago has a rough and then I'm going to look at Vancouver. Oh, I kept. I mean, you can look at Vancouver. You can look at Danny. This is so worse. Some curious to see. Like I said, I want homepillars advantage and okay, if we don't have it against Nashville, that's fine. But let's try to, I hope that we can get it over just about everybody else. And honestly, I think Vancouver and St. Louis are the two top teams in the Western Conference. By the way, I told you St. Louis is going to be Vancouver. Vancouver, Galaxy, Losers in with Montreal, Lake DC. Oh, yeah. Vancouver, Austin, Colorado. Anybody that has Austin is going to see. Yeah, I mean, what do they play Montreal twice? Because they just like the Canadian. It's that Canadian championship. That doesn't come for regular season. Okay. So, everybody that got set up with the end of the season being an Austin Montreal or

16:31Sporting KC setup, you guys are golden. I mean, I can't believe this, Danny. So, Sporting, so, uh, supporters shield, that's out of the question, Danny. That's out of the question. Yeah, yeah, the sports is out of the question. You need them to slip up against Toronto on Wednesday and then beat them. Well, let's say they draw against Toronto. We have to beat Chicago and then we beat them. Then all of a sudden you make up five points there. I guess about five points. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you need those two things to happen and then you need them to start, you know, just tripping up against these horrible teams because that's the thing. You've got a five point lead over us. It's crazy when you look at the competition that they have. So now, yeah, go ahead. No, I was going to ask you a question, but tell me what you, what you're going to say before I ask you the question. No, no, I ask you the question because my sister's somewhere else. Okay, uh, Vinnie is asking, uh, it's saying rather play away than at home.

17:34This is where I think it makes it as a season ticket holder. I don't know. We would not like that. I want to go see a, I want to go see some playoff games. Yeah. But it does make sense in terms of historical data at Miami. New State Park. Yeah. Hey, maybe playing away is better for the math to math. So, um, do you want to say what I was going to ask you? So next, the 20th, what's it? It was the 16th. Well, next week, it was a weekday that we're going to play at Cruisers' Whole game. It's for a legit trophy, apparently. Yes, apparently. I've been talking about how important this Nashville game is. Do you think there's any chance that oils looks at this and he says, we got this trophy to play for on Wednesday. Let's say, I think it's Wednesday.

18:35Nashville, the supporters shields out of the question. We don't really feel like the ones day. Okay, we don't feel like like putting all our cards on the table and letting them see what we have planned for them. What are the chances that they rotate for Nashville to get ready for that trophy on Wednesday? I mean, what a mistake, right? I mean, at this point, after having a World Cup break and then having all the people that performed in the World Cup, they already had a break after the World Cup. Do you think that it's too much to ask for them to kind of play through games and not have rotation? Well, okay, to be fair, if this was the open cup final, the league's cup final, the CCC, Concorde Cup champions cup, ob for sure. If it's any of those trophies, rotate. I want to win that trophy. It's because the trophy that it is, that it just came out of nowhere. So, okay, we're playing for this trophy, I guess.

19:36All right, we found out recently who we're playing against. That's why I think that bothers me a little more. Well, look at what Sean says. Why would you rotate for a trophy that doesn't get you a CCC spot? Because it's a trophy. If anything, you rotate the Cruz Asul game. All right, well, Chris, this is the perfect opportunity for a poll. Hold on, let me type that out. So, how do you want to, would you rotate? Should we be holy? Yeah, would you rotate in order to make sure that you have the best availability and health to go after this trophy on Wednesday? So, that's ultimately the question. Like, are you willing to do it? Like, are you okay rotating on Wednesday? I'm sorry, I'm sad today against Nashville. It's a regular season game. If you lose, it doesn't make huge difference. Especially if you beat Chicago. It doesn't make a huge difference if you lose to Nashville, if you draw, or whatever. But you do have a trophy to play for midweek.

20:36So, do you rotate for the trophy? Or do you go all in because you need the payback, right? You need to get your get back against Nashville. We got to run that feed again. We got to run that feed again. So, I'm going to put, I'm going to put this trophy polly. Okay, go take Nashville, rotate, mash the play Cruz Asul or rotate Cruz Asul after trophy. Well, well, well said, Chris. Yeah, I mean, that's what it is though, right? I mean, essentially. Okay, so let's see. We can't go trophy list this season. Gotta play the final. But it's such a whack final. Like, there was literally no games leading up to it. Look, a lot of people say rotate Nashville to play Cruz Asul. Well, I will tell you, I'll be there for the Cruz Asul game. So, I mean, technically, I want to see them win it.

21:36Like, I'm going to be there. So, my little work. You got to go to the Cruz Asul game. Oh, you got the tickets for that game. That's right. Yeah. So, I'm going to go. I got the tickets. I'm going to see them. If it's South Carolina couple, whatever, if they're going to lift the trophy, I want to be there for it. So, I got the tickets already. I'll be there. I mean, I guess I. How much of a celebration do you think that's going to be on the field? Like, I'd be surprised if the players go out there and like, stay more than five minutes with the whole trophy celebration. This is the fact that you're beating a Cruz Asul, make it better because Cruz Asul is a squad. I guess because the game is going to be hard for it. So, yeah, I guess because of the competition, but in terms of the trophy celebration. And another thing is that our team is looking really bad, we're as relate. Like, what are the chances that we be Cruz Asul? And remember, whenever they show a messy highlight, they show that first Cruz Asul game, right? That's the, that if we're going to have a rivalry against a Mexican team, I guess it's two at this point, right?

22:39Cruz Asul after this game, right? Because now we got a final and we have messy debut and Monterey because we've just run into them so often. And it's been, look, it's the pole is 50, 50 right now. Guys, we need, we need icebreakers here, guys. Vote on this pole. One, if you want to rotate Nashville to play Cruz Asul. Or two, if you say, after trophy, you have a super cup, Danny sat over here for Madrid. No, I don't, that's such a stupid trophy. It's like the first game. It's like a preseason trophy and it counts as like a legit trophy. It's so dumb. And Sean is saying in the end, we know there's going to be no rotation. But then King is saying we can't go trophy this season, got to play the final. Do you think that if they were to win the Cruz Asul, all of a sudden, a lot of people are like, oh, at least we got a trophy. You think that's what people say? Oh, at least we got a trophy. I don't know, man. This, this, this, this like this, you know, I don't, I don't think that this, I don't think that this, I don't want to say it doesn't count because it's a trophy, right?

23:43Like it's some sort of a championship. But, you know, this Wackermold trophy, I don't know how much people are going to put a stake on it. I mean, something is better than nothing is better to have a thing, better to have love and lost and never loved at all. But the thing is, what is this something though, guys? Is it, is it something? It's a trophy. But is it the champion on his cup? Campionist cup. Mike, we said this year's a failure no matter what. Like I said, I would stay at least messy, got a trophy. So the campionist cup, I just want to go over this historically, guys, just so you know, right? It started in 2018. The first game ever or this cup thing, whatever, was Toronto FC versus Degres in 2018. Degres one. Then Atlanta United played against America and at lighting United one in 2019.

24:452020 was cancelled. Right. It was Seattle versus to be determined and there was no to be determined. 2021 Columbus Crew plays against Cruz Asul Columbus wins to zero. 2022 NYCFC plays against Atlas and NYCFC wins in Yankee Stadium. All these games, by the way, are here in the United States. 2023 LAFC plays against Degres. Degres wins. So Degres is like undefeated in this Columbus Crew plays against America in 2024. America wins that one. And then last year LA Galaxy played against Toluca and Toluca won two to three. I asked Google because you said something that interested me. I asked Google, I said, how many trophies has NYCFC won in their history? They've won two major trophies. They're my last cup and the 2022 champion is cup.

25:49So it counts it as a major trophy. So it actually considered it. All right. We're all in. The second you know the trophy. Let's save the season. That's save the season. I mean, should we end the poll then? I mean, look, most people say this is get the trophy. Okay. So we'll leave the poll. There's the poll. It's done. Rotate Nashville. And we play Cruz Asul with all the bells and whistles, baby. And some people are explaining to me what like the comparison. I understand how this works. I know they do it in other leagues and stuff. I just don't like it. I don't like when they just like. Here we go. One game off. Like you guys just play against each other. I don't like that. Right. But now it's a trophy. So, okay. All right. So the campionist cup is basically is a contest between the winner of the MLS Cup. And the winner of the league. The campion, the campionist in the league.

26:50Because they have. Okay. Technically have two seasons and one. And they play against each other, which was to look up versus Cruz Asul. One that game. So that's why they're playing against into Miami. Yeah. Okay. All right. So it's basically one off. But it's like a random one off just randomly. Well, so like that basically decides who is the champion of the entire contest. Like, let's get rid of the league's cup. Then what's the point of the cup? We got the best team in the last game against the best team in league. I'm actually just playing one game, which is what we're doing. What was the penalty? It's just another tournament to be like, well, let's see who the other. Best team in North America. Yeah. Whatever. So we wanted to just come on here to talk about the past that we have for the rest of the season. I now realize the supporter shield is not going to happen. No way. No, no, no, no. Cupcakes. Yeah. Yeah, with that schedule, that natural has coming up. It's not happening. They're probably going to break the record for most points in the season.

27:51So goodbye for into Miami having that for a full. I guess two years, you could say. That's done. And let's see. Again, I want to be natural. To me, that's more important than the company on this. But I have a feeling that maybe the. Miami doesn't feel that way. Well, what's funny is New England won the supporter shield in 2021. And then. I think it reminds me one at three years later or two years later. Yeah, we beat them to break the record. Yeah, and we beat them to break the record. Yeah. Let me tell you, we still haven't discussed the whole player dilemma we have. Go for it. Like Danny, you mentioned earlier about Kaisato and Fuku. Like the fact that you breathe, that you breathe out the words Fuku no Mura with Fuku no Mura with a left back. That's crazy to me. If anybody speaks Spanish, go ahead, check out Las Garzas.

28:51We did that earlier tonight. I did it with Xavier LaVos. And he was telling me that he spoke to Kaisato. And Kaisato told them that he's played left back for Ecuador before. What? So Kaisato has experienced a left back. That's why he didn't look that bad when he was playing it. If he has experienced a left back, let's take him over there and forget about Mura. Well, yes, I would absolutely want that. But at the same time, like, does this kid really have left back experience? So play internationally, apparently, I mean, I don't know if it was like the U20s or whatever, but he's played left back for Ecuador. Like, and who did he play against the Turks and Kicos? Like, no, he's playing in South America. He's playing against other South American U20 teams. Okay. But like, what if they played like other countries, not just in South America, right? Like, is it? It's the most part, yes. Yeah, for the most part, did we play against other South American teams? And I think that that's probably harder to play against than playing against Atlanta.

29:55I mean, who are you playing against though? Like Bolivia? Like Chile? Yes. Like what's? Yes, I was much rather. I rather a left back that has experienced against a Chile against a Bolivia. I guess a Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, then, I don't know, who, and Atlanta, who has who the hell is he playing against? He's playing against who's coming down that right side for Atlanta. I forgot already a few percent. He's coming down the right side. Like, yes, I much rather that. I mean, technically, Trinidad and Tobago is like right off the coast of Venezuela. So like, maybe, I think, well, I mean, there is an island of, I mean, look, Danny, him playing left back.
