Back home, a Cleveland, Ohio, my man, we have made it when you get the sweet 16 and you get opening day of major league baseball. I would say this is why March and maybe today, specifically, Jensen, I looked at as one of the best months of the year and today, one of the best days in the entire sporting calendar. Amen. Already burned, as you can tell, by the giant's money line last night. So we'll get off on a better foot today.
No, had a little procedure yesterday. For those of you, fair skin people out there and need to make sure that you do your upkeep and your maintenance had a little blue light therapy yesterday. So slight burn on the face for today and tomorrow, but I'm telling you, we're going to fly high and we're going to look even better this afternoon cannot wait to jump into all these great baseball games as the appetizer, my friend, to what should be a scintillating sweet 16 slate. We have to ask the other question too, because people are going to ask me, I know my mom's going to ask, Jensen, what are you wearing today to commemorate opening day? Yeah, so if you remember players weekend early on, remember it was a 2017 when it started. So this is the monochromatic Cleveland, Indians, Jersey from 2019. And I was asking Larry, our steam TD back at Mission Control in Vegas. If you remember the Yankees and the Dodgers, when they played at Chavez, it looked like a Star Wars film because it felt like stormtroopers, right?
You had, you know, the Dodgers in all white, you had the Yankees in all black. So the evil empire lived up to its name and then some with the uniform. So I think that's the second time I've ever put this jersey on. It was really cool. It's got JLU 50 on the back. You know, the players could do their nicknames and stuff like that. So the good thing Dave, I fit in it. So that means I could probably still play. Yeah, I think you look good. You play good. So hey, we shall see, but a lot of fun. Man cannot wait to get it underway with you. All right. And again, if you're watching at home as well, I'm fan do a sports network. This is the match jersey from night from 2015. At the official patch from the World Series. Now it didn't go well for us. If you can see that there. And I've also got the hat as well. When we played the Royals that year, that's why I've got a rematch, but these are all from 2015 official from the World Series. The last one, the Metropolitan's were in. We are very excited for opening day. That's where we're going to begin last night. It was technically opening night by the full slate today. That's where we're going to begin our highlights and headlines.
Help your bottom line with today's highlights and headlines. What's a rough start to the season? I'd say if you're a gigante's fan last night, and if you're watching on Netflix, seven nothing was the final here for the Yankees blanking San Francisco Max Fried with pretty darn good. Went into seven innings there in San Francisco, Jensen. You talked about how he would probably pitch deeper into this game. He did. And the Yankees offense got to go in early five runs in the second and never look back. So good one for the Yankees. Not so good for San Francisco one of 162 Jensen. It's in the books. Yes, it is. The only thing worse than getting shut out is having to watch it on Netflix last night. My God, that was awful. I hate to say it, but NBC doing the peacock game between your Mets and the Pirates is going to look like a World Series game compared to what we watch last night. On the field. Hey, a couple of good things. Number one, you know, the Yankees offense every starter had to hit except Aaron judge who had the first time I can't remember the year, but four, four punch outs, man.
The the El Grande Mismo right there of getting four punch outs to start your year. He hasn't really looked right, even at the end of the World Baseball Classic Day, something to follow here in the first couple of weeks, but they got to to web and they were able to make it stand up. The under, depending on the number you got, Dave, I did see some books close at six and a half. If you got seven. Okay, how that under got home, I will not know for a while, but to each their own there, if you're Yankee Moneyline better, congratulations, want to know on the season. Yeah, if you got that push, take that push. If you had the over and had the six and a half, congratulations, you cash that first one. You're an opening night, but opening day today, we're going to have 22 teams here to get out and really this is what we all come to to know is opening day, you mentioned the meds and pirates. That's going to be a great pitching match up there in city field and we're going to have what three teams to our six teams tomorrow, three more games to complete the opening three days of major league baseball.
Do you like the way they did this with the opening night stand alone last night, 22 teams in action today and then six more in action tomorrow. I understand that in the name, Dave, opening day should happen during the day or at least start during the day, but hey, listen, we're in the modern day of trying to continue to grow the sport. So yeah, we're going to have plenty. I think they did a great job, the schedulers by being able to have the majority of these contests. Dave, I believe if I'm looking at the schedule here, there's only a handful that will run into the sweet 16 tonight. And that is by design, just Arizona and the Dodgers at 830 PM Eastern and then the guardians and the Seattle Mariners will be at 1010. So you pretty much get all these other games that will start today. And they will be ahead. They'll actually be finishing Dave by the time we get to tip off tonight. So Bravo. Rob Manfred commissioners up. You got something right here. So we get a nice full March madness day, if you will, we get baseball in the afternoon and then we get the basketball later on tonight.
And if you're down there in Houston, what a sports state is for you guys with the sweet 16 being down there with Houston Regional there with with the cougars, you get Astros opening day baseball. Little Texas Houston open as well. So we'll get to all of that as the show goes on today, but it is the sweet 16 as well. We'll begin tonight in the South and the West regions here. And so again, we're going to get some of those really big boys on Friday. We know in DC. That's going to be all the rage in the East, but the South and the West do take center stage. I mentioned it there with Houston going to be in action today. What are you really looking forward here in the big four games that we're going to see today in the sweet 16. Yeah, first of all, we're looking at the quote unquote by seed Cinderella. And that's Texas, the 11 seed going up against Purdue. Are they truly that? I don't think so. Sean Miller, by the way, for those looking for some angles here. And while obviously dive much deeper. What is the 11 and 4 here against the number in his last handful of NCAA tournaments, Purdue, I think though in a unique situation.
You mentioned Houston. It's the epicenter. If you're a bush beer in Houston, bad day to be a bush beer with Iowa and Nebraska fan base is descending. If they're not already there just yet. So excited to see those first couple of games and then two do's these to follow. Dave, I mean, pick your poison Arkansas Arizona, Illinois, Houston. Man, oh man, you and I going to be burning the midnight oil. And what a way to do it with a really great quartet of games today. Yeah, this will be a beastie boys night. No sleep till no sleep till Friday. That's for sure because we were watching these games in major league baseball cannot wait to dive deeper. We'll get it to all those numbers here in the sweet 16 today in the association last night. The Celtics did beat the thunder in a potential finals preview there and also going to get to some big news around the NBA. The nuggets also beat the Mavericks last night. Small Murray with a big night in that one with 53 points. Yokech does what he does with 2321 and 19 assists a heck of a triple double there. And how about the board of governors approving the exploration of Vegas and Seattle expansion teams here.
I got to think if you if you made me bet it, I'd say the yes line for Vegas to get a team. It's got to be about minus $5. And I got to think that Vegas is going to get at least one of these teams and I wouldn't be surprised if Seattle does as well. Yeah, I'm with you, buddy. The old supersonic. You've already seen some of the tectonic plates where the thunder kind of have agreed all the history, all the records they're willing to, you know, allow that to go back and reprise its role. As a baton. Yes, I tell you, you and I are uniform junkies. I would love to see if it is indeed Seattle. Just bring the supersonic's back. Do the old school jerseys a couple of nights. Do a little, you know, new age one here. And then, you know, start figuring out what the Vegas name as far as the mascot and what that franchise will look like. You said it before and it is wild to kind of wrap your head around the epicenter now with how many professional sports teams will be in Las Vegas in just a handful of years time.
And the Super Bowl probably coming back here in a couple of years to the desert. It is the place to be. And if you're a tourist, man, you can get all kinds of different sporting flavors while you're there. Yeah, I mean, Vegas has always been known as the gambling capital of the world. I think it's going to be known as the sports capital of the world in very short order. So, you know, you bring stuff like F1 there and you've got NASCAR events that are there. I mean, they have everything that you possibly want it once they get the NBA there. So kudos to Vegas, they just keep going up, up and up. How about 2026 the NFL season will begin on a Wednesday. This is going to be September 9th in Seattle. So we don't know the opponent yet, but it is interesting that we're going to begin this year on a Wednesday night now, Jensen. You know, the NFL takes what the NFL wants. And I mean, at some point we're just going to take over every day of the week. Well, first of all, nice job again. And I say this with 100% sarcasm. Oh, you announced that Seattle is going to play opening night. Cool. Like we didn't know that. Why don't you just say who they're playing?
We can announce the game in Melbourne, but we can't announce who's playing. But I mean, get it figured out. All right. It is just ridiculous. They want executive order Lewis Ross administration. If you announce a team on a day that they're playing, announce their opponent, allow the fan bases to start planning ahead. Yeah, because they, they know Roger Goodell knows the NFL knows. It's not like they're going now. We're not sure they they'll play in the night. It'll be a Wednesday. We'll figure it out later. The rest of the details. No, they know the details. They just don't want to tell us those details just yet, but that is going to be wild on Wednesday night there. So how much to get to here on this edition of a huge edition of these and by the books. We're going to have Greg Hoops, Peterson joined the program as well. In an hour number two, go back to Las Vegas for the Maestro Mike Palm and find out what is on his mind today. Gents Lewis Dave Ross here with you again hoop speeders and going to join us in the very next segment as we break down everything in the sweet 16 and beyond on the round ball docket. We did get baseball back in our lives last night with opening night in San Francisco again, depending on the number. If you had the under seven, you got to push somehow seven early runs by the Yankees, but it holds up into seven, nothing win. Well, pretty darn good for max freed in this ballgame is well not so good for Aaron judge. Something you mentioned off the top that I wanted to get back to here. And again, it's one game. It's an you know, 0 for five a bunch of punch outs yesterday. Not exactly what Aaron judge was looking forward to to start off the year, but he is the runaway favorite again to be the AL MVP. We can all understand why.
Do you think there's a carryover from the WBC with judge and you know in New York, look, it's seven, nothing. It's your want to know everything should be great this morning. But if you're really trying to get into it, they will in New York City today. Is there is our issue with Aaron judge that we have to be worried about. It can be whispered, but I really say it. I again, I went from my vantage point just seeing hitters and knowing that, you know, there are certain things you pick out. It's something I want to watch. And I looked at more of the world baseball classic where they most pitching is going to be ahead of hitting. And that's the key when you look at spring training and you evaluate. And that's even with hitters that are going well. The guys had a great spring training. So you got to see it translate in April. I've seen plenty of teammates, Dave, that hit like a buck 50 in camp. And then the first two weeks they're hitting 475, you know, it is one of those things where you have to take the results with a grain of salt.
What I look at for judge and part of that to remember yesterday is they started that game, you know, basically at what five five oh five was supposed to be the local first pitch. We started 525 because we got cable cars. We got cabs on the field. We got ridiculousness in bounding. That's a whole another time. And anyway, I look at first of all, you had shadows, which were tough for both sides in that first third of the game and then trying to adjust from there. So I'm not going to take too much out of one game, but it is. It is a trend because we already have quote unquote meaningful games that Aaron judge has played in. And so let's see here in the next two to three weeks. If it starts a little bit slower than anticipated, then that's something to kind of focus a bit more on. On the flip side, Max Fried, I mentioned he went into the seventh inning, six and a third to hits allowed no runs one walk four punchies here 86 pitches, which ironically is the same number of pitches they allowed Logan Web to go in defeat 86 pitches.
He did have seven punchouts here, but to give it the nine hits seven runs six earned only one walk here. What do we take away from the two starters last night. Well, taking advantage that second inning, right? You know, they were really good. The Yankees were about just putting things together. And then, you know, just the big hit, the big triple into triple's alley, the guy you all expected, right? Trent Christian to be able to have that triple. So, you know, that's a big haymaker to land there. But I think what you take more out of is, you know, everyone had a piece in that puzzle yesterday. And the bottom of the order, which is one that you and I, when we did our daily diamond preview of the Yankees. And by the way, if you have not subscribed just yet, please do the visa daily diamond search wherever you get your podcasts, give us a like and subscribe. I think that was the one part as we move forward in the first third of this campaign. You know, is it Caballero and McMahon and Wells or those the guys that are going to turn this thing over when Volpe eventually gets back.
You know, how does that change line up construction for Aaron Boone company? But one other thing I take out. And actually Michelle is asking me, she goes, is Giancarlo Stan look healthy? I'm like, we're going to find out. Remember, this is the guy who said he had trouble, you know, open it a bag of chips in spring training. So if you get him right and you can keep him healthy, huge addition there in the middle with Belinger, Ben Rice. So I think that's another big takeaway. Stan looked pretty good in a two for two for four effort last night. Okay. And again, we're saying that kind of tongue in cheek about judge with the over five in the four punch outs. Should there be concern. We already have our first overreaction in the marketplace in less than 24 hours. Aaron judge has dropped to plus two 15 to win a LNVP. Bobby with yesterday was nine to one. Today, he's five to one. Jensen, get ready for these overreactions early image week baseball to happen. So again, if you want to happen on these markets now, because you feel like you can time them and get the best of the number.
More power to you. But how about that? Bobby with juniors not taking the field yet. He won't do it until Friday. And he's already been short in four dollars overnight. And judges already moved into the two dollar two 15 range here because of one bad outing. That is amazing to me. Yeah. And again, if you haven't jumped in, then I think that's a unique circumstance to because he was pretty much the second most popular guy. Yes. Not only in the odds market, but I think in the prevailing sentiment too, Dave, that's going to be part of the portion of this season that we follow. Is that, you know, judge is going for three in a row as far as MVPs. Do we get voter fatigue? And that's going to be essential in your handicap of the market. And hey, if Bobby with gets off to a great start, he's going to be down to two to one. It's going to happen, man. And the market is not going to wait. I don't think I don't think it's going to be, you know, one of those things where he gets to the betting favorite.
I mean, let's say that his month of April, you know, he hits 370. He has eight, eight homers. He's got 10 stolen bases. You just think of all the things as far as what what it will take to overcome Aaron judge and also keep in mind, Dave. Cal Raleigh in a historic year did not bypass Aaron judge as far as odds on until judge went on the I L. That's what it took. So buyer beware. If you think you're going to buy the dip here, it's a better price. You know, as far as judge to be able to get in on him if you didn't pre flop. It is amazing to see the market already reacting to one over five or four punches. Amazing, but we'll see that trend continues here. I'm going to have great hoops. Peterson, join us here in the next segment. Cannot wait for the sweet 16 to get underway today as well with opening day. What a day of sports. It will be Texas is going to tip it off against Purdue to get things started. I will against Nebraska Alabama. Excuse me. Then we're going to Arkansas in Arizona and then Illinois in Houston to round it out tonight.
Jensen, we're going to give out our ATS leans that we like here for the sweet 16 and I do like a couple of these games here. You mentioned Sean Miller. I don't know. I've been in the business here of going against Sean Miller, at least in the last round with Gonzaga. That did not pay dividends for yours truly. I'm not going to fight it any longer. I'm taking the seven and a half with Texas today here. I do like Illinois. I got the better than number three. It's down to two and a half tonight against Houston. I got to tell you. I think I'm selling low here on Nebraska at a point and a half. I really do like them. I know a lot of people here like Iowa today. I'm going to roll with the Huskers here in the mayor in Fred Hoyberg as three of my games that I like today. And then tomorrow to complete these leans that I have here. I do love Sparta here against Yukon getting the two points. And I'm going to roll one more time with my tide and take the nine and a half against Michigan. Don't know if they can win the game outright. But I really like where they are. They're playing with a bit better defense. Jensen, those are my five ATS leans here for the sweet 16. What do you have my friend?
We are going to be opposite on a handful here. And that's okay because this is the crazy part about where you look at not only the time off. And we said this even when you're making out your bracket. The time off in the coaching. Does it make a difference? A lot of chalk through round one. Will we have it around two. Here's what I like. I think Iowa's very live. The beat Nebraska. It's a rock fight. Give me the hot guys who specialize in defense. Thank you very much. Something about Purdue, man. Boy, did they look like that that contender for the one. You number one overall team with it. They work at the beginning of the year. Something about Rick Barnes and Tennessee. No one's talking about the balls. Everybody's talking about Iowa state. T.J. Ozzelberger. Is he staying? Is he going? Are they going to get Jefferson back? Volsman, if they're hitting them from the perimeter and they're not turning it over. This could be fun. I like your tide. I do like Alabama. I've had my issues with Michigan, even though I picked them to win it all.
But I do see the light where there is a there is a point here where if Alabama's physicality can match and you have an off night from Michigan shooting. We saw the big 10 tournament. Yeah, they they can have it off night and Alabama's not that team if they're going right that you can afford that. I picked Illinois to get to the final four. I'm not going against them. They're into the Lions den. So I like that. All unders told you yesterday. All unders for me and a lot of these games. Texas Purdue under 148 and a half. St. John's Duke under 141 and a half. Iowa Nebraska under 132. Illinois Houston under 140. Michigan State UConn under 134 and a half. Those my leans on sides and totals for the sweet 16. Which means Joe Friso our steam producer. We got two right off the bat. We got Bama. We got Illinois. So we're rolling right there with the Align eye and roll tide here for two of our selections here in the contest. We always love our conversations with Greg Hoops Peterson, the host of the V.C.
and Coast to Coast Hoops podcast. Give them a follow on XG unit underscore 81. Greg is this is this the best day on the sports calendar for you. When you get the sweet 16 Major League Baseball opening. If you like a little golf, you can sprinkle some of that into. I mean, it really is up there. It's got to be power power rated in your rankings. One of the top five sports days of the year. Five. I don't know if I'm going to quite put it at number one. I would prefer to have all 30 teams in action because, you know, with the opening day, it always feels like it's a little bit random to say least over the last few years, but certainly it is tremendous. And it's tremendous when you start off a baseball season. You get through one day and you have zero losses on the board. The the food tastes better. The air feels a little bit cleaner when you've got that. So it was a good start to the day for myself. Well done. You do have a play in MLB that we align on. So we'll get to that in a moment. But let's get to the main event later tonight. Sweet 16 underway and earnest.
We get Texas Purdue, Iowa and Nebraska. And then just two behemoths and Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois Houston. GP, I aligned with you on the Boi there makers. I'm anxious how you got there. And if you're also on the total in that matchup as well. I do like the over as well in that Purdue versus Texas game mainly because of Texas. The defense has been much better here in the NCAA tournament. That said, you look at the full season data. And I think that reality is going to set it on the fact that Texas. They are still outside the top three are in terms of points allowed under per possession basis away from home. Allowing teams to shoot 38.1% from three point range away from home. You got a Purdue team that they've already been to a title before. Purdue and games played away from home. Number one, the country in terms of points per possession. And additionally with his Purdue team as well. They just do such a great job in terms of hunkering down away from home. I've noticed this with Purdue a lot of their losses during the regular season. Because you'll recall late January early February things were less and tremendous for them.
But a lot of those losses actually came at home. And games played away from them. They actually give up 3.1 points fewer for one of our possessions rather than at home. The defense has been much better in terms of not allowing second and third chances away from home as well. So I think that Purdue in this sort of an environment they're out there. And they say they find a way to get the job done. So like the over and I'm willing to lay the 7.5 year with the boiler makers. I love that you have a play on every side in total here in the sweet 16 today. We align on this next one. I don't know that we're on the on the popular side of this one here with Nebraska against Iowa. But what got you to the window in the corn huskers? For Iowa. The main thing for them is that they're so good in terms of generating turnovers on defense. Not 15 team. The country in terms of turnovers generated on a per possession basis. What's the best way to really get by and to undo that. Take care of the ball. Nebraska top 45 team in terms of fewer turnovers on a per possession basis on offense. And for Nebraska. This is not a team that's going to take a lot of two. They're in the top 35 in terms of percentage of their field low times that come from three points.
That said when they take them, they hit them. They're top 35 team down low. I think that ranked mass is the best low post presence in this game. For Nebraska, give me about 13.6 rebounds. And for Iowa, they do give up quite a bit on the inside. They're outside the top to 40 in terms of opponents to point shooting percentage. That's a little bit rough. Both of these teams have some similarities in the way that they do such a great job in terms of their perimeter offense and perimeter defense. And Nebraska just dares you to shoot threes. 50% of opponents field goal attempts come from three points. They are ninth in opponent three points. I think that that is going to be big couple of them taking care of the ball. Like Nebraska laying a point nap. And I do like that total over his ball because I think they you get those late fouls. It's a low total to be able to push you over. Greg, we know guard play is paramount in March and obviously to cut down the nets you needed in that national title game too. We may have the best one on display against a number one team in Arizona that is going to have their hands for at least in my opinion.
Tommy Lloyd in the wildcats. This has usually been the place where they trip up where they find ways to beat themselves. Is this the point to where John Calipari still has the best player on the court is Arkansas live against Arizona? Live. Yes. I think that they cover the spread. I do not think that Arizona loses this game outright mainly because with Arkansas. This is not the strongest defense on low. They are outside the top two 40 in terms of pointed two point cheating percentage. That said, the big elixir to that. How good they are a maximizing possession since I like to call it because on a 365 visual teams. Number one in terms of fewest turnovers on a per position basis on office. Third and points scored on a per position basis. That's the dare is a cuff effect. Give you over 23 points six emphasis shoots over 40% for three. Hey, if a cuff wasn't there, we'd be talking a lot more about Malik Thomas guy that gives you 15 plus points. He also shoots 40 plus percent for three. Now it helps that Arizona is that they run a lot of their offense on low.
They're a top 40 team in terms of percentage of their field goal times that come from inside the three point line. And well, with Arkansas, I have been a little bit of show. You say wobblyness down low. That's going to be hurting them. Matty of the scream us a lot. Toby Awaka combining for about 17 after he bounced brain. They should be able to win that battle down low. And for Arizona, just a really good defense. Up to 10 team turns points a lot on a per position basis. But with valuing the ball with being as efficient as Arkansas is on offense. I'm willing to take the eight year and that once he sees a total think that Arizona does just enough on defense to be able to keep you under. So like the under as well. All right, Hoops. I have Houston in my national chip chip game. I have them losing to Gonzaga. That can't happen. Something tells me they're not going to get the to the chip chip game. And I know it's a home game for them against Illinois tonight. But is there danger tonight that the line I get in three here not only to take the points here, but maybe win this game out right. I do think so. I took Illinois here on the money line because with Illinois, this is not a team that's going to generate turnovers out of 365.
Division one teams actually 365th in terms of turnovers generated on a per position basis. But I'm that's really been the four day of this Houston offense Houston does a really good job in terms of taking care of the ball. Number five into terms of the fewest thermos on a per position basis. They're not a great shooting team though. Outside the top one earned with their two point shooting process. They should write around about 34 and a half 35% for three, which it isn't bad. But it's not amazing as well. And Illinois does not give you good looks to be able to score at the free line. As a matter of fact, they give up the fewest free throw attempts per game with any team at all. I've got you as well with Houston. They've been giving up many, many more second jesus and they have in the past as well. Outside the top one 10 in terms of defense rebound percentage with the visage brothers with David Mirkovic. Being able to do what they do down low. I think Illinois finds way to get the job down out right. So I like Illinois on the money line. Both of these seems very slow outside the top to 75 turns total possessions per game. So that total 140 also like the under. Greg, we've made it 175 days from the last out of the world.
Series received by Yoshi Yamamoto. We now get our first game in the books yesterday opening night is done. Opening day is here. You and I align on a total with the reds and the red socks. We get two dandies of left handers and gear crochet and Andrew Abbott. Sing to me with the under eight. My friend at the great American ballpark. And great American ballpark played a little bit more picture friendly last year than normal. Because a lot of people like to call it great American small park. But for the reds. They really didn't hit much better when they were at home rather than away from home. And it's not like they made quantum changes. They do pick up and you can use words. And that is pretty big for the reds. And that's a big reason why plus 135 plus 140. I'm willing to take shot on the reds on the money line. But you've got your crochet who's got a sub to 50 or eight from a season ago. 11 straight cuts to two walks per night. And then he's he did it at home. He did it on the road. He's rock solid there. And then on the full side for Andrew Abbott. Only about eight or so straight cuts per night. And then I think that he's going to be able to maximize.
Give you a few more swings and misses this time around. But Alex Breggman is no longer there for the Boston red sucks. I recognize that they pick up bulls and cataracts in the offseason. And being able to get back a few of the injured pieces from his season ago as well. That's big Roman Anthony company. But that's it for the reds. I feel like this bullpen is sneaky. Okay. I'm not going to say that they're amazing or anything like that. But I feel like they've got a lot of functional guys. They're going to come in after Abbott be able to keep things. Shall we say own from them for the sensory reds as we know out there in the Midwest. The ballside will be flying out in June, July. They are not going to be flying out this time of year. I know that I've got family out there in Wisconsin. It has been not great out there in the Midwest in terms of otherwise. Overlies for you week. So do you like the under of eight and a shot here on the reds on the body line? Very quickly about 45 seconds ago to the victor go the spoils. The reigning defendings trying to make it three in a row this year with the Dodgers. Jensen mentioned Yamamoto getting that last out. He's going to get the hopefully the first out for the Dodgers. And beyond today going to get to start against Zach Galen. What's the play here in LA tonight?
If he doesn't get the first out that something has won very, very horribly wrong. But that's it. I do like the under in this game. But with the Dodgers are now north of minus 250 favorites. I couldn't get there on the money line with rights. But you're getting plus money on getting a run half. And Zach Galen was terrible last year. About a 483 array by far the worst of his career. He looks much better in the second half of the season. I think that he gets back to that Zach Galen that helped this team be able to get to the world series. For the diamond backs out the most trustworthy of all pens. But for the Dodgers they revamp with Tanner Scott and company. I like what I saw out of Yamamoto. I think they're going to get a bit more out of Galen this year. So like the under nine and getting plus money out of run half took that with the diamond backs. I thought that Yamamoto was unavailable for game seven. That's what I was told. Somehow that guy unbelievable MVP of the world series last year in relief. And now going to start it up again this year Greg. Enjoy the day. What a day. It's going to be in everybody check out coast coast. Who's podcast give a file to you to underscore 81 the Mariners.

Back alongside Jensen Lewis Dave Ross here with you on this opening day of Major League Baseball. Got a very very apropole tweet from Johnny Brock who says at the Ross Sports and at J. Lou 50. Dave, that jersey makes you look tired and underachieving. I mean that is just a harsh way to start off. Metz fans, but John is right. We have underachieved in recent years. Wow. I like that one. Hopefully the Metz get off on the good foot today. For all to go up against some guy named Paul skeens. Good luck with that. Okay. Jensen, when we break down every single team as we have done here to get you ready for opening day here. One of those teams that I know you really like. They're under the microscope for very good reason. Let's get to it with today's edition of the Daily Diamond.
It's the boys in the Pacific Northwest. Oh, so close to getting to the World Series last year. Wasn't for some late inning heroics in game seven against Toronto. That might have got their last year. It would have been a very interesting series against the Dodgers. And I think the point is Jensen. While the Blue Jays pushed the Dodgers as far as humanly possible. I don't know that it would have been very different with Seattle. They felt like they were right there as good as anybody in the American week a year ago. 91 team lost that classic to Toronto in seven to make the postseason this year. You got to lay almost three dollars. The betting market trust this team win total high 89 and a half. Even money to win the AL West. Five to one to win the penit 12 to one short number to win the World Series. Jensen. I think it's a team top to bottom that we go. Yeah, I understand why those numbers are as short as they are.
Yeah, they might have been a year early as far as being able to punch their ticket to their first ever fall classic. Because that's where I have them this year. I think they do get over the hub. Not only winning the American League West again, but also this is a team that scarily got better with the acquisition of Brendan Donovan now. To be their lead off hitter and their third baseman. He will now put himself in front of Cal Raleigh with the historic 60 home run season. Julio Rodriguez who looked amazing. The World Baseball Classic Josh Naylor, Randy Rosarena. You know, the lineup is exceptionally deep. Dave, I reiterated to this. Do you this this point last year? And it bears repeating for people that will be jumping in with us daily on our betting angles here. This is a starting rotation for Seattle. It's about league average for the first half of the season. Compare that to how dominant they were for the last couple of years. I mean, they were begging for run support. You scored three runs for this group.
And that was it. Book it. They were going to win. And last year, they finally got the offensive reinforcement. And you see what happened once they got healthy. Remember, they dealt with injuries to Logan Gilbert and George Kirby early. The emergence of Brian Wu was amazing before he got hurt at the end of the year. Luis Castillo, the sage old veteran continues to spin it with the best of them. And they actually got even better in their bullpen making a very shrewd trade in my eyes. From one of the better set up men from the Washington Nationals in Jose Ferrer. Left handed power guy that's going to be right in front of Matt Brash and Andreas Munoz. You could have made the argument that Munoz outside of a roll this Chapman was the best stopper in all a baseball. Here's what you like. The ingredients remain. They're kind of running back the same outfit. But now if you get any semblance of health from this rotation and pick names out of a hat. David's that disgusting of a rotation. You want to face Gilbert?
You want to face Wu? You want to face Kirby? Heck, you want to face the power bowling balls sinkers and change up of Luis Castillo? Oh, by the way, they got a nice young pup in Emerson Hancock who has found his way to the big leagues here the last year or two. He's going to fill out the rotation. And they still have more that they can dip down and get as far as rotation reinforcements if they need that now. When you look at the overall topography of the American league. Who are the real candidates to be able to win it? Well, you can make an argument with just like we did last year for about six teams, I think. If you look in the West, it's the Mariners. Will we hear from the Rangers this year? I think we might. It may not be right away, but they may have closing speed if they can get help from their rotation. Obviously the Yankees are going to be in there. We look at what the Red Sox did with their rotation. I think that you have to include Baltimore as a team on the rise. I picked them to win the American League East.
And of course, the defending AL champion Toronto Blue Jays. Those are the teams in my mind Dave right now and with all due respect to Detroit. Those are the six teams. I think they have a chance to win the American League. If Detroit is able to get more offensively than I think we can include them because we know their pitching staff is phenomenal when healthy. But this is the most complete team in my eyes in the American League at the beginning of the season. There's not much left for them to do if at all. If this is the team you tell me on the last day of the regular season is healthy heading into the postseason. I feel incredible about my five to one future for the Mariners to win the American League. Logan Gilbert's going to get the ball tonight to kick start their season against the Guardians. And the reason why I bring that up. I'm so glad you brought up the starters that pick your poison with this group. So I'm going to ask you the hard question of who the ace is. Now the betting market will tell you that it's that's Brian Wu because he's the shortest shot on the board at 17 to one to win Sy Young.
Logan Gilbert getting that start tonight. He's 20 to one. You don't see this very often. George Kirby is 40 to one. And Luis Castillo as you mentioned is 65 to one. Jensen therefore starters are all there on the big board to win Sy Young. You know we don't roll out four guys. I don't want to say interchangeable. But yet you can make a case for all four at those numbers for Sy Young. So manager Jensen Lewis. Who is your ace out of that for any of them. That's a cop out. But if you're making me pick a starter. If you're making me pick a starter right now for a decided game seven. I'm leaning blue just slightly over Gilbert and you brought up and remind me again. You saw Kirby at 40 to one for American League. I think that's actually a wonderful value play. I think that really is because again, you're banking on that.
Yeah. Last year I dealt with the injury. And hopefully he's passed that. He's made the adjustments and off season training to be there. Because a lot of people liked him last year, Dave. You know, Adam Burke and I last year gave out Logan Gilbert in the betting guide. And unfortunately the the early injury derailed that opportunity to win the American League. Sy Young. I'm also adding Nathan of Aldi in my. A L. Sy Young portfolio at better than 40 to one. That's great value on George Kirby. So if you're looking to add here in the futures market and you haven't diversified the portfolio a little bit. You have a great opportunity between those three Seattle starters, Gilbert Kirby and will. But I love that number for George Kirby. If you're looking for maybe a little bit more of a longer shot for a guy that has amazing control. He's going to eat innings when healthy. And he's right there. You asked the question. Yeah, pick the ace. Hard to do that out of those three guys. There's not a lot of daylight between all three.
All right. Cal Raleigh is the third betting choice to win MVP at 11 to one. You and I talked about it. I still can't believe he didn't win it. I love Aaron judge. I think he's. Obviously won a generational talent. We get that. But it was a it was a historical year that we saw from Cal as a switch hitting catcher. That we never seen. He couldn't win it. I guess my question is, do we worry about regression? That really it was Cal Raleigh in that offense. And yeah, you got a little bit of help there and Rosemary and some other guys. But it was primarily Cal. Can he possibly duplicate those numbers? We know judge can. But can Cal Raleigh really get close to what he did a year ago? It would be nearly impossible to ask that Dave because of all the wear and tear to remember. He caught every inning. And I'd people don't. I've been factor that in year over year. It's the longest year professionally played. And oh, by the way, you've already ramped up catching world baseball classic games too. Now he would have done it and spring training. But you already have those leverage innings that you've been under not only defensively, but out the plate.
He hits 35 homers, Dave. I think that's at least the foundation. I would I would be shocked if he doesn't get there. All right. So again, I don't want to call it a travesty, but I was very surprised that Cal Raleigh could not win that award. Because again, I think Mitch Moss said it last year. You put him on the Yankees last year doing that as a catcher. And yeah, he absolutely wins that award. Sometimes the market does matter. All right. A lot to get to here when we come back in the next hour. We're going to recap what we saw last night with opening night in Major League Baseball. The sweet 16 is upon us.
