सर्वे चोराः

नागार्जुनः प्राचीनभारतस्य सुप्रसिद्धः गुरुः । सः कदाचित् कस्यचित् नगरस्य मध्यभागे सञ्चरन् आसीत् । तस्य राज्यस्य राज्ञी तं सुवर्णमयं भिक्षापात्रम् अयच्छत् । तत् पात्रं स्वीकृत्य गच्छन्तं नागार्जुनम् एकः चोरः दृष्ट्वा तं पात्रं चोरयितुं नागार्जुनम् अनुसृतवान् । एतत् अवलोक्य नागार्जुनः भिक्षापात्रम् अक्षिपत् । तदा आश्चर्यान्वितः चोरः नागार्जुनस्य समीपं गत्वा 'एतादृशं बहुमूल्यं वस्तु क्षेप्तुं यथा शक्नुयाम् तादृशं माम् उपदिशतु' इति अवदत् । तदनन्तरं नागार्जुनः तस्मै कानिचन हितोपदेशवचनानि, कांश्चन अभ्यासान् च कर्तुम् अवदत् । दिनत्रयाभ्यन्तरे सः चोरः चौर्यकार्यं त्यक्त्वा नागार्जुनस्य शिष्यः अभवत् ।

Nagarjuna, a renowned teacher of ancient India, was once walking through a city when the queen presented him with a golden begging bowl. A thief spotted him and followed, intending to steal the bowl. Seeing this, Nagarjuna simply discarded it. Astonished, the thief approached him and asked, “Teach me how to let go of valuable things as easily as you do”. Nagarjuna then shared words of wisdom and guided him through certain practices. Within three days, the thief abandoned his life of crime and became Nagarjuna’s disciple.
