Once, a thief entered a house to hide from the king’s guards. He placed his bundle on a cot, covered himself with a blanket, and lay down beside the man already sleeping there. Both were taken before the king, and each claimed, “I am not the thief”. The king, wise and just, devised a clever test. He ordered the bundle to be opened and asked each man to identify its contents. The true owner could easily describe them, while the thief hesitated and revealed himself. Thus, by intelligence rather than force, the king discovered the guilty one.
