अधीरता न शोभायै

कदाचित् 'पञ्जाबकेसरी' इति ख्यातस्य राज्ञः रणजितसिंहस्य राज्यस्य सीमाप्रदेशं केचन लुण्ठाकाः पेशावरनगरस्य लुण्ठनं कुर्वन्तः सन्ति इति गुप्तचराः वार्ताम् आनीतवन्तः । तां वार्तां श्रुत्वा यदा राजा सेनापतिम् आनाय्य अपृच्छत् तदा त्रिगुणितप्रमाणेन स्थितान् तान् लुण्ठाकान् अस्मत्सैनिकाः कथं वा अवरोधयेयुः इति अवदत् सेनापतिः ।  किमपि उनुक्त्वा अनुक्षणं राजा १५० सैनिकैः पेशावरं प्राप्य शत्रुसंहारे उदुक्तः । तस्य शौर्यं खड्गप्रहारकौशलं च दृष्ट्वा नितरां भीताः लुण्ठाकाः अचिरात् एव ततः पलायितवन्तः ।  ततः सेनापतिः सङ्कल्पितवान् यत् इतः परं मया अधीरता न अश्रीयते इति ।

Once, in the kingdom of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, also known as the "Lion of Punjab," some spies brought news that a group of looters was plundering the city of Peshawar. When the king summoned his general and asked how the looters could enter the city, the general replied with concern, mentioning that the looters were three times in number compared to their soldiers. Without saying a word, the king immediately set off for Peshawar with 150 soldiers to annihilate the enemy. Witnessing his bravery and swordsmanship, the terrified looters soon fled from the city. From that moment on, the general resolved that he would never again lose his composure.
