सन्तोषप्राप्त्यै मार्गः

सन्तोषप्राप्तिमार्गम् इच्छन्तं कञ्चन गृहस्थं कश्चन महात्मा स्वस्य आश्रमे कूपखननकार्ये नियोजयति । सः गृहस्थः काञ्चित् नीतिम् अनुसृत्य कूपखननं करोति । जलम् अपि उद्भवति । तदा परस्परसम्भाषणावसरे महात्मा वदति 'कूपखननस्य या नीतिः सा एव सन्तोषप्राप्त्यै अपि । ऊर्ध्वभागे विद्यमानाः विघ्नकारकाः अंशाः अपनीताः चेत् सन्तोषः स्वयमेव उद्गच्छति । निरन्तरप्रयासः अपि अपेक्ष्यते तदर्थम् । मनसः नैर्मल्यं सम्पादितं चेत् सन्तोषः स्वयमेव प्राप्येत' इति ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)

A householder seeking the path to contentment was engaged by a saint in digging a well at the hermitage. Following proper method, he dug, and water eventually emerged. In conversation, the saint explained: “The principle of well digging is the same for attaining contentment. When the obstacles above are removed, water rises naturally; likewise, when impurities of the mind are cleared, contentment arises on its own. Constant effort is required, but once purity of mind is achieved, satisfaction flows naturally.”
