मूल्यवर्धनम्

कदाचित् कश्चन वणिक् स्वस्य तरुणं पुत्रम् अहूय एकं मलिनं वस्त्रं दत्त्वा एकं रजतनाणकम् आनेतव्यम् इति अवदत् । पुत्रः तत् वस्त्रं स्वच्छतया प्रक्षाल्य महता श्रमेण विक्रीय रजतनाणकद्वयं प्राप्तवान् । एवं रीत्या पिता अनेकवारं पुत्राय मलिनवस्त्राणि दत्त्वा तानि विक्रेतुं रजतनाणकानि सुवर्णनाणकानि वा अनेतुम् अवदत् । पुत्रः अनेकान् उपायान् आश्रित्य तानि सर्वाणि विक्रीतवान् । एतस्मात् प्रयत्नेन सर्वमपि साधयितुं शक्यम् इति नीतिः पुत्रेण ज्ञाता ।

Once a merchant gave his young son a dirty cloth and asked him to sell it for one silver coin. The son cleaned it carefully, worked hard, and sold it for two coins. In the same way, the father repeatedly gave him dirty clothes, asking him to bring back silver or even gold coins. The son, using different methods, managed to sell them all successfully. From this, the son learned the lesson: with effort, anything can be accomplished.
