मा कुरु गर्वम्

कदचित् उषास्नाता कलिका स्वस्य अनुपमं सौन्दर्यम् अवलोक्य गर्विता ।  सहसा तस्याः‌ दृष्टिः समीपस्थं धूलिधूसरितं पाषाणखण्डं दृष्ट्वा 'ईश्वरेण कीदृशीं विकृतिं गमितः त्वम्' इति उक्तवती । पाषाणखण्डः किमपि अनुक्त्वा तूष्णीम् अतिष्ठत् । अग्रिमदिने कश्चन मूर्तिकारः आगत्य तेन पाषाणखण्डेन एकां देवमूर्तिम् अरचयत् । एकस्मिन् मन्दिरे स्थापितवान् च  । अग्रिमदिने यदा सा कलिका पुष्पतां गता कश्चन भक्तः तत् पुष्पम् अविचित्य देवविग्रहस्य चरणयोः समर्पितवान् । स्वस्य अधोगतिं दृष्ट्वा कलिकया महान् खेदः अनुभूतः ।

One day, a bud admired her unparalleled beauty and became proud. Suddenly, her gaze fell upon a nearby dust-covered piece of stone and she said, 'What a distorted state the Creator has placed you in!' The stone remained silent and unresponsive. The next day, a sculptor arrived and carved that stone into an idol of a deity, which he then placed in a temple. On the following day, the bud, now turned into a flower, was plucked by a devotee and offered at the feet of the deity's idol. Witnessing her own downfall, the bud felt immense regret.
