श्रद्धा

आ पञ्चदशभ्यः दिनेभ्यः मन्दिरम् आगत्य देवस्य पुरतः स्थित्वा वर्णमालां जपन्तीं बालिकां कश्चन भक्तः उपसर्प्य अपृच्छत् 'किमर्थं वर्णमालाजपं कृत्वा देवं प्रणम्य निर्गच्छसि' इति । तदा सा बालिका अवदत् यत् 'वर्णमाला एव मम स्तोत्रम् । अपि च मातामही कथयति यत् सर्वाणि स्तोत्राणि प्राथनाः च एतैः वर्णैः एव निर्मितानि भवन्ति । अतः भगवतः पुरतः श्रद्धया पठ' इति । प्रार्थनां स्तोत्राणि वा अजानत्याः अपि अस्याः भगवति श्रद्धा तु बलवती अस्ति इति चिन्तयन् सः भक्तः स्वकार्याय ततः निर्गतः ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)
For fifteen days, a little girl had been coming to the temple and standing before the deity, chanting the alphabet. One day, a devotee approached her and asked, “Why do you chant the alphabet and then leave after bowing to the Lord?” The girl replied, “The alphabet itself is my hymn. My grandmother says that all prayers and hymns are made from these very letters. So I recite them with devotion before God.” The devotee realized that although the girl didn’t know any formal prayers, her faith was deep and sincere. Moved by her pure devotion, he quietly left to attend to his own tasks.
