मनोधर्मः तु भिद्यते

कश्चन गुरुः यानि कार्याणि पूर्वं करोति स्म तान्येव कार्याणि ज्ञानोदयप्राप्तेः अनन्तरमपपि करोति स्म । एतत् दृष्ट्वा कश्चन तरुणः पृच्छति - ‘भवतः ज्ञानोदयः अभवत् इत्येतत् कथं सत्यम्?’ इति । तदा गुरुः उपदिशति - ‘ज्ञानोदयात् पूर्वं कर्तव्यबुद्ध्या कार्यं क्रियते स्म । इदानीं तु आत्मतृप्त्यर्थं कार्यं करोमि । आत्मतृप्त्यै यत्र कार्यं क्रियते तत्र महान् आनदः । खेदादयः अपगच्छन्ति । एवं, क्रियमाणे कार्ये उभयत्रापि समानता स्यात् चेदपि मनोधर्मः तु भिद्यते एव' ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)
A certain teacher used to perform the same tasks both before and after attaining enlightenment. Observing this, a young man asks, "How can it be true that you have attained enlightenment?" To this, the teacher explains, "Before enlightenment, tasks were done with a sense of duty. Now, I perform tasks for self-satisfaction. When work is done for self-satisfaction, there is great joy. Sorrows and other negative feelings disappear. Thus, even if the tasks being performed are the same, the mental attitude differs."
