भक्तिरेव गरियसी, न तु क्रमः

भगवन्तं साकारत्वेन निर्दिश्य प्रार्थनां कुर्वन्तं कञ्चन ग्रामीणकृषिकं कश्चन पण्डितः शास्त्रीयं प्रार्थनाक्रमं बोधयति । अनन्तरदिने पण्डितेन उपदिष्टं प्रार्थनाक्रमं स्मर्तुम् अशक्नुवन् सः कृषिकः नितरां परितप्तः भवति । रात्रौ पण्डितस्य स्वप्ने देवः प्रत्यक्षीभूय वदति - 'कृषिकः स्वीयक्रमम् अनुचितम् इति मन्यते । त्वया बोधितः क्रमः तेन न स्मर्यते । नितरां परिताप्यति । अहमपि परितपामि' इति । प्राप्तविवेकः पण्डितः उषसि एव कृषिकस्य गृहं गत्वा - 'भक्तिः एव गरीयसी । अतः स्वीयेन क्रमेण एव प्राथनां कुरु' इति वदति ।

This story shows that personal devotion is more important than following a strict sequence. A scholar, teaches a farmer, proper way to pray. The next day, the farmer, unable to remember the prayer sequence as the scholar taught him, becomes very sad. That night, the deity appears to the scholar in a dream and says, "The farmer thinks his prayer method is wrong and also does not remember the sequence you taught him. He is suffering greatly, and I too am suffering because of this." The next morning, the scholar, understanding the situation, goes to the farmer's house and says, "Devotion is the most important. So, pray in your own way, as you usually do."
