Once, a revered sage welcomed devotees to his ashram and invited them for a meal. During the meal, he shared a profound reflection: “A human’s eating habits often resemble those of animals. Animals eat only when hungry and consume what nature has assigned to them. But humans eat even without hunger, and during occasions like weddings, they overindulge, harming their own health.” He emphasized that maintaining health is within human control, yet people neglect it. Though exercise can prevent health issues, many avoid it. He reminded everyone that food is sacred—Annam Brahma—and must be respected. Not even a single grain should be wasted. Only food consumed with thoughtful awareness yields true benefit. The devotees, deeply moved by these insights, ate mindfully and departed with a sense of fulfillment.
