因为喜爱电影，忻钰坤高二辍学去上电影培训学院。考北电失利，只好在电视台拍了几年栏目剧，直到考上北电的摄影进修班。29岁的时候，忻钰坤终于有机会拍摄自己的电影处女作，全程缺钱咬着牙拍完。《心迷宫》成本不到200万，票房累计过千万，获得2014年FIRST青年影展最佳导演、最佳剧情长片奖；同年入围威尼斯国际电影节、华沙国际电影节、台湾金马奖等。“有时候我偶尔扫到他来现场，我们看他那张哭丧的脸，就知道完蛋了，可能钱没找来。但是我能做的没什么，我只能专心拍，尽快往前赶。后来就这么5万、10万、5万、10万一点点地凑。 我们最终提前6天完成了拍摄。我拿着这些素材回到家，又默默剪了半年，终于把我们的第一部长片剪出来了，就是《心迷宫》。”
