पितुः विषये श्रद्धा

कश्चन महाधनिकः कस्यचन रत्नविक्रेतुः आपणं गत्वा अधिकमूल्ययुक्तानि रत्नानि दर्शयितुम् उक्तवान् । रत्नविक्रेता दर्शितवान् । इतो‌Sपि अमूल्यानि रत्नानि दर्शयताम् इति पृष्टे विक्रेता अवदत् यत् अन्यस्मात् प्रकोष्ठात् आनयामि इति । यदा अन्यस्मिन् प्रकोष्ठे विक्रेता प्रविष्टः, सुप्तः पिता दृष्टः तेन । सुप्तः पिता यावत् न जागृयाद् तावत् कवाटोद्घाटनं कर्तुं न शक्यम् इति कारणतः सः रिक्तहस्ततया प्रत्यागतः । तथैव तेन धनिकः उक्तः च । पितुः विषये आपणिकस्य श्रद्धां दृष्ट्वा सन्तुष्टः धनिकः किञ्चित् प्रतीक्ष्य रत्नं क्रीत्वा ततः निर्गतवान् ।

A certain wealthy man went to the shop of a gem-seller and asked to be shown gems of high value. The gem-seller showed him some. When the wealthy man asked to see even more priceless gems, the seller replied that he would bring them from another chamber. When the seller entered the other chamber, he saw his father sleeping there. Since the door could not be opened without waking his father, he returned empty-handed. He explained this to the wealthy man. Seeing the seller’s reverence for his father, the wealthy man was pleased. After waiting a little while, he purchased a gem and then departed.
