2012年，导演郭柯认识了“慰安妇”韦绍兰，并把她的故事拍成了纪录片《三十二》。“在接触韦绍兰以前，我对‘慰安妇’的理解就是停留在那个词上面；但是碰到她以后，这个词变得具象了，它是活生生的一个人。”郭柯决定以纪录片的形式去把其他的受害者都记录下来。 “其实《二十二》这部纪录片应该以什么样的角度去拍摄，这个问题困扰了我很久，我也很纠结。但是随着长时间跟这些老人接触，和她们相处，我坚定了当初的想法，就是把她们当作自己的亲人一样去记录。就像这个海报上那四个字：深情凝视。”
