2008年第一次潜入广东佛山的水下洞穴，王远就迷上了洞潜，在水下几十米到上百米的深蓝洞中，可以看到阳光穿透泉水的魔幻效果，还有水下钟乳石上凝固的亿万年地质变迁，此后他开始探索各种人迹罕至的地下迷宫，去世界各地的洞潜圣地佛罗里达、菲律宾宿务、墨西哥、巴哈马洞潜400多次。为了发掘、保护中国水下洞穴，绘制水下迷宫地图，他辞去了警察的工作，跟朋友们一起成立了WUD环球水下探索组织。“很多人说洞穴潜水是极限运动，说洞穴潜水非常危险、非常可怕。但实际上这取决于两方面：一方面是你要去的洞是什么样子的；另一方面是你是什么样子的。”
