निर्धनबालिकायाः निःस्पृहता

कश्चन धनिकः बदरीकेदारनाथादिदर्शनार्थं गतवान् । तत्र काचन बालिका धनिकम् उपसर्प्य एकं रूप्यकम् अयाचत । सः कोषात् निष्कास्य अञ्जलिमितानि रूप्यकाणि बालैकायै अयच्छत् । एतावन्ति नाणकानि प्राप्य सा बालिका यद्यपि सन्तुष्टा जाता तथापि अनतिदूरे क्रीडतः निर्धनबालकान् दृष्ट्वा तस्याः सन्तोषः विलुप्तः । सा तेषां दिशि गत्वा एकैकस्मै अपि बालकाय एकैकं नाणकम् अयच्छत् । अन्ते एकम् एव नाणकं तस्याः हस्ते अवशिष्टम् । महत्या सन्तृप्त्या सा ततः निर्गतवती । तस्याः उदारतां निःस्पृहतां च दृष्ट्वा सः धनिकः महत् आश्चर्यं प्राप्नोत् ।

A wealthy man once went to visit Badrinath and Kedarnath. There, a little girl approached him and asked for one coin. The man generously gave her a handful of coins from his purse. The girl was happy at first, but soon saw some poor children playing nearby. Her joy faded. She walked over to them and gave one coin to each child. In the end, only one coin remained in her hand. She left with great satisfaction. Seeing her kindness and selflessness, the rich man was deeply amazed.
