सत्सङ्गस्य महत्त्वम्

काचित् दासी मार्जनपात्रवस्त्रक्षालनादिकं करोति स्म । तस्य पञ्चवर्षीयः पुत्रः आसीत् । कदाचित् कस्यचन परमहंसभागवतस्य चातुर्मासस्य आश्रमस्य पालनार्थं ग्रामजनाः इमां दासीं नियोजितवन्तः । दास्या स्वपुत्रः शिक्षितः यत् भागवतः यत्किञ्चिदपि सेवां कुरु इति । बालः अपि तथैव अकरोत् । गच्छता कालेन बालेन भक्तिः, ज्ञानं, वैराग्यं च प्राप्तम् । मातुः मरणानन्तरं सः सत्वरं गत्वा वृक्षस्य अधः उपविश्य ध्यानमग्नः अभवत् । अचिरात् एव भगवतः साक्षात्कारः जातः । सः एव आगामिनि जन्मनि ब्रह्मदेवस्य मानसपुत्रत्वेन जन्म प्राप्य 'महर्षिः नारदः' इति ख्यातिं गतः ।

A maidservant worked by cleaning utensils and washing clothes. She had a five-year-old son. Once, the villagers appointed her to serve a great saint during the four months of his stay. The mother taught her son to also serve the saint in whatever way he could. The boy did so faithfully, and over time he gained devotion, knowledge, and detachment. After his mother’s death, he sat under a tree absorbed in meditation. Soon he had the vision of God. In his next birth, he was born as a mind-born son of Brahma, and became renowned as Sage Narada.
