This tale shows the result of good governance. Once, a monk with his disciples saw a weeping woman. On asking, they learned that her family and some villagers had been cruelly devoured by a man-eating tiger. One disciple suggested leaving the region. But the woman refused, saying: ‘The king here is virtuous, righteous, and devoted to his people. In this land there is no treachery, deceit, bribery, or injustice. With such noble rule, where else could we go?’. Hearing this, the monk said: ‘Even if many hardships arise, people endure them under a worthy ruler. By his governance, the land itself becomes like a paradise.’
